I revisited this place once in a long time...and I was sad to see that most of the merchandise was gone! There were only a sprinkling of items on sale (like a few T-shirts, sunglasses, and some miscellaneous items), so still a bit to check out. More than retail, it seems the place is now more of an artsy crafty place than a retail store. The entire place looked bigger...more space, since less retail. I thought they should have had some overhead music to fill the empty space, and give it more of a vibe. They still had this bar area, where they served wine (aside from the Jackass Cafe in the back). Still, I love the big, wide, open space that this place has to offer...and its Bohemian vibe. And did I mention their awesome artwork on their walls - both inside and out? I left the store thinking I should partake in their jewelry making on my next visit! read more

The event space was perfect for the intimate wedding we celebrated there. Brittany was a huge help during the wedding. I was the planner but also in the wedding. She helped me get the place ready and kept things running smoothly throughout. I really appreciate her attention to detail. I could've never pulled the wedding off without her. Hidden gem alert!! The Mercantile is one of my favorite places in RH. I first found out about this place as a meeting spot (Jackass Cafe), but the store itself has a lot of unique gifts and is ever-evolving to fit the community needs. There used to be a bunch of merch upstairs, but I believe it has turned into a flex/event space. The goods you can find here range from plants, to clothes, to candles, and gifts. They even started doing a "make your own candle workshop" and are in the process of opening a candy bar. Lots of gift ideas here... some of them are whimsical, some of them creative, and some are just plan cool. Staff here are super friendly and will help you find whatever you are searching for (if they do provide it). The Merc, is located right along White St in the heart of "downtown" Rock Hill. Prime location for many community events, including the being the main sponsor of RH Pride. It's just a great center to gather, stop in, and serve the RH community. read more

From Coca-Cola Distributorship to bike shop to a Mercantile shop, this place has quite a history. I was attending an art show by the acclaimed Molly Lastra of Rock Hill, SC. I believe this was the first art show event at this location and it was very professionally done. The space is large and open with 2 floors and as you walk the space you sense that each area has a theme. There are gifts for all occasions but my favorite section was the area with all the live indoor plants. They have quite a selection and they are all green and healthy looking. There is a space for a cafe and coffee along with other beverages. The location is ideal and it has a massive surface parking lot and easy access. It's just a block away from Flipside Cafe, Rock Hill Brewing and Millstone Pizza among many others. The are show was well attended and I saw lot's of familiar faces who are fans of the artist. The are was scattered throughout the building saw you can stroll and view at your leisure and available to view though 4/8/22. read more

This shop is incredible, seriously!!! It's massive and literally has something for EVERYONE! They even have a corner for kiddos with amazing books discussing diversity and inclusivity. I mean, just wow. I was blown away by this shop. It's 100% worth the ride! You can find candles, cards, socks, flowers, PLANTS, jewelry, men's items, etc. etc. etc. There's so much to see and buy! It's such a fun store and the ladies working there are amazing, so sweet and helpful. I can't wait to go back and do all of my gift shopping this year!!! I lucked up on a gorgeous lickety split philodendron plant that had been on my wishlist for months! She's such a beauty and I'm so happy I ventured to the Mercantile! Obsessed with this place! They make my favorite soaps and candles, which make fabulous gifts. The Volcano scent is everything!! Trust me on this. I'm very into Bourbon and Oak too. They have the best coffee in the back and the cutest little accessories. Very kitschy with unique flowers. You can schedule time to make soap, bracelets, or candles with your friends as well. This place is a Rock Hill staple and worth a visit. read more

I absolutely LOVE everything about this place!! They have a little bit of everything, in a good way. We have purchased quite a bit from here, and everything has been such good quality, and not overly priced, either. I love how they have a pop up shop that changes as well. The employees are fantastic and are helpful and friendly. They recently started having classes to learn all sorts of different things (candle making, soaps, and more). I haven't had a chance to attend one yet, but I'm looking forward to, very soon. If you're looking for something for you, a gift for someone, or fresh flowers, they have it. I'm definitely a fan girl of this store! The store have different food trucks out (some days for lunch, some days also have dinner), and you can stop next door to grab a cold one. I moved to Rock Hill from California for the time being and it was a jarring transition to say the least. I am extremely impressed with the kindness and service quality shown by The Mercantile. I told a friend it seems like they only hire truly good folks. While I'm here, it's become a staple of mine. I grab coffee a few times a week and I bring my niece on weekends to let her work with the crafts. When I eventually head back west I will miss this spot. read more

The Mercantile became a fast favorite spot for our family after moving away from Charlotte to Rock Hill in 2021. The shop has an incredible selection of home goods, gifts, and clothing and we do a lot of our gift shopping here. The bonus of Jackass Cafe and Deli is delightful! High quality ingredients in their food offerings and the coffee is so, so good. I highly recommend the Crazy Ass Neighbor latte. To top it all off, their inclusive, community centric commitment to our town is unparalleled and we're so lucky they're right here in Rock Hill! The host a community fridge and collect donations to keep it stocked for the food insecure. These people clearly have hearts of gold. Can't wait for more community events and shopping soon. read more

I don't know why it took my partner and I to go check out The Mercantile but when we went we had a blast. Lots of locally produced goods of ALL sorts. I'd take too long to describe all the stuff...clothes, body care, candles, flowers, REALLY funny kitchen dry towels. (The one I got is a white towel that says " I love Jesus...but I cuss a little ". So great. There's even a deli with alcoholic beverages and artisanal coffees. It's fun just to visit! Planning on going back soon. read more

The Mercantile is my very favorite store in all of York County. Their selection changes often and I can always find a gift for everyone on my list. I love that there is a large price range of items, too. I can treat myself to something I wouldn't normally buy and not feel like I'm wasting money. They also run the Community Fridge and host community activities that are inclusive. During the large scale BLM marches this summer, they stepped up and started working with small businesses run by Black women, providing space in their store. They are constantly trying to walk the wall and I feel good about where my dollars are going. Besides, where else in York County would I ever be able to buy Bernie socks? read more

Wonderful shop, excellent customer service, and a huge selection of items for yourself and for gifts! We were visiting family for the long holiday weekend and decided to stop here after lunch. We spent close to an hour or more in this store just browsing at everything available. There's a little something for everyone in this store. Upon looking at their website and social media, they're LGBTQ+ friendly as they're planning to participate in Rock Hill's Pride Festival later this month (and some of the store items show this support, too). Also, they host a "Community Fridge" for those in the local community who are in need of fresh groceries. They support local entrepreneurs and have multiple other ways they give back to the community. I'm so glad Rock Hill has a shop like this, and I already can't wait to check out their new items later this month on my next visit to town. I love supporting businesses that give back to their local community - and this one definitely does in more ways than one! read more

The Mercantile by Copper Dwelling + Design sources the best products to ensure shoppers find unique goods not typically available at big box stores. In 2022, they expanded down into a second location a block away on White St of historic downtown Rock Hill.

Meet the Business Owner: Brittany K.

Michael and Brittany Kelly are the owners of The Mercantile and Copper Dwelling + Design. They had a lifelong dream to be partners in the business world... Well together but separate, so they don't kill each other. As serial entreprenurs, they dreamed about their business partnership for years. Over many cups of coffee and many meals at their favorite Waffle House, they sketched out what their 5 year plan would look like and how they wanted to grow their businesses! Brittany launched Copper Dwelling & Design as an interior design firm, which now includes real estate division and the retail store--The Mercantile. Michael began his real estate career years ago as Copper Dwelling with Allen Tate Realtors.
