The Loyalist Market is a gem of a restaurant tucked away in a Matthews shopping center. As a…read morebusiness their specialty is made to order charcuterie boards and they boast a large selection of locally sourced cheeses and meats. Inside however they also have a market featuring lots of local products, and a sit down cafe serving up salads and toasted sandwiches. I came in here on a quiet Sunday afternoon and we elected to sit outside in their walled in patio area. It was a pleasant place to sit and our service was prompt and friendly. For my sandwich I chose the turkey chipotle bacon without the tomatoes. The sandwich tasted great and the bread was toasted nicely. If I have one complaint it's that for $14.00 I think the sandwich could have been a bit bigger, or maybe I was just too hungry because I scarfed it down in an instant! Still the chips that accompanied it were a good snack and I enjoyed my meal. This is definitely a good spot to grab a lunch, I wish I had more time and I would have enjoyed the opportunity to browse their market. Matthews has a lot of great locally owned spots and this is for sure one of them.

So, with the holiday season during Covid I was trying to support local businesses as well as be creative with my gifts. So, when it came to Mom and her love of honey no doubt Cloister came to mind. After checking out the selection I could not pass on the 'Holiday' Trio. The trio included Cinnamon, Cocoa and Pumpkin Spice whipped honeys. OMG, they all sounded amazing! The ordering process was simple, and one thing I loved was I marked my order as a "gift", so a note could be included, but listed my mailing address, so I could drop it at Mom's. Didn't think anything of it, as I have never had a company reach out, but Joanne, the owner, reached out to me via email to confirm the address, since I indicated a gift but listed my address, same as billing. Now, how sweet is that? I received the package which was one of the best packing jobs I have seen and included was an extra jar of honey, as a treat! If you have not tried Cloister, definitely give them a try. But, be careful, you may become addicted, ha ha!

Highly recommend you support this small business.

I heard later in the afternoon they have live music and a lot more of a vibe, but honestly it was perfect for my friends and me. They have fishing, a park for kids, games, animals, food, picnic tables, and lots of open space to run around. Very family-oriented and such a nice outdoor experience. We really don't have many places like this in Miami, so I genuinely enjoyed myself. I didn't try the lemonade this time, but I did get an iced coffee and it was delicious. Next time I'm trying the lemonade, it comes in these mini buckets and looked super refreshing with a bunch of flavor options. If I'm not mistaken, parking was free (maybe because it was Sunday), and if you plan to fish, you do need to get a wristband and pay. Don't try to sneak around it because they will come find you pay your dues ;)

Their shop I feel like is a little small so when it's busy, can be hard and crowded inside. I do like that they offer different things like bakery items, coffee, ice cream and wine. It was a cute neat spot to go to to hang out with friends and family. Do like that they have real bathroom versus some other places have porter potty.

I purchased a baked good and it was STALE with no expiration date to be found! I didn't notice until I bit into it and it was so dry and stale I thought I must've purchased an expired item. I also purchased some of the premade foods to see if they improved. They definitely did not. The street corn doesn't remotely taste like it should. The chicken salad wasn't good either and at $10 for a small container it's not cheap. I'm really disappointed because this location used to have good premade options but this will be my last time here. Sadly, I still can't recommend this option when there are so many other fresh, fairly priced options.

Customer server, specifically Natalie, is less than subpar. She was so difficult. Their produce is awful!! Most of it was rotten. You have to pick through it to get something that's not rotten. They have rotten tomatoes, rotten peppers, rotten cukes, moldy strawberries, and the corn is dried out. Heed the warning! Also, WATCH THE PRICES or you will get ripped off!!!!!!!

The new location for the Waxhaw Farmers' Market has been graciously donated by Bill and Holly Stewart of Stewarts' Village Gallery for the Market to use. The Stewart's say "they are looking forward to the new season with our new neighbors". The market runs from April through November and serves the citizens of Waxhaw, Weddington, Marvin and the surrounding communities. Customers come from Charlotte for many of the unique and delicious items available. The hours will remain the same, from 9 am till 1 pm on Saturdays and on Tuesdays from 3 pm to 6 pm. The market features naturally grown local produce, cut flowers, vegetable and flower plants, goat cheese, fresh farm eggs, herbs, local honey, fresh baked bread, cakes, cookies, muffins, granola bars, homemade dog treats, homemade goat milk soap, and so much more! With the exception of the flower people (they rarely last more than 5 days), all items have been wonderful. Produce prices can't be beat, and much of the food is wonderful. I'm partial to Heavenly Muffins (she's a neighbor of mine), but that aside they truly are deliciously 'Heavenly.' It's small and cozy inside and the place has old bones you can tell by the creaking wood floors. It feels like walking into an old timey little grocer, but this market is dedicated to natural produce and promoting good health. They have a lot of products from CBD, to vitamins, essential oils, and natural beauty products. They also have a lot of food items like organic snacks, juices, soups, and many more. What brings me back though is their little kitchen where they whip up smoothies, wraps, salads, and some delicious veggie burgers. They offer spicy black bean burgers, and most recently I tried a soy blend burger made with various nuts and other ingredients. These aren't the type of veggie burgers that try to mirror regular burgers, they have their own unique textures and tastes. Originally it was a bit out of my comfort zone as an avid meat lover but I love to try new things and I have to say they are quite delicious. As I start to learn more about ways to improve my health I wouldn't be surprised if I start to come in more regularly. I highly recommend coming in to browse. Even if it doesn't seem like your cup of tea, you're likely to be surprised by how many awesome things they have for sale! It also helps that the employees are super friendly and they usually play great tunes!
