Always Summer Herbs - Raw Pennsylvania Honey: Fall Goldenrod

HONEY REVIEW: I'm a…read morebig believer in buying local, organic, etc. Not only is it great for the environment and local economy, but it's almost always more yummy! You guys, do not sleep on this producer. Now I've never purchased local honey before (wow, was I missing out) and had a ton of questions for the owner, Jeff Berta. He spoke passionately and knowledgably about each honey and the subtle nuances in their respective flavor profiles. After a little discussion about what I'd be using it for and which ones would harmonize best with my needs, I purchased the "Raw Pennsylvania Honey: Fall Goldenrod" 1 lb. bottle. The bottle itself is a neat little glass container that showcases the honey's natural color perfectly (see photo.) Jeff recommended taking a whiff of the honey once I opened it, and boy, this stuff is the epitome of liquid gold. I can honestly say that after tasting it, I feel like I've never had REAL honey before. This place is a definite yes in my book and I absolutely will be back. Catch Jeff and his honey at the Market Square Farmer's Market (I think that's the only one they do!) THIS HONEY IS AMAZING.

I really wish I got around to taking photos of everything while I was there. At first it looks like…read morea market store and a garden nursery.... Boy will you be wrong- the place extends well out into the back! We didn't go into the nursery area but the plants were gorgeous. Go into the market store area- it is huge! There's a bakery, a deli, a little lunch spot, groceries, candies, home goods etc. I want to highlight the little wine section with the kindest lady working there. She gave us a tour of the entire place - that's how we found out the place was much more than meets the eye! We sampled several different wines, and purchased several! One of the wines sold there supports a rescue group with every sale. We bought some jams (birthday gifts), honey and hot sauces from the store. Traverse out back, there's the original barn that is a gift shop (3 stories), lots of unique items, a farm petting barn of animals rescued from slaughterhouses, a separate store for those with allergies that they can shop specific allergen friendly food. An ice cream stand, a hard cider ale house and some play areas for the children. We stopped in the arsenal ale house to have a drink and that was delicious too! We were hungry after and were looking for place to eat then we remembered there was a little lunch spot in the store so back in we went! Perfect tied over lunch, great sandwiches, pickles have got to be homemade. Drinks from cooler- super refreshing. Definitely will be back.

Wow. This is such a great place. We were going to head to Gibsonia and I was looking for things to…read moredo and places to see. Soergel Orchards came up in my hunt so we made it one of our stops. We arrived and found ample parking and went inside. There is so much inside: you can find donuts from Orum's on Saturday (we bought 6) and there is fresh bread, dinner rolls, jams, and other pastries available. Toward the back are farm fresh vegetables, milk, etc. They have an ice cream counter and things like honey, etc. nearby. We, also, stopped by Arrowhead winery inside to sample their wines: the lady behind the counter was super helpful and knowledgeable about their wines and the wine-making process. Overall, you will find yourself spending more time and money than you expected but you will, also, be planning your next visit. There is a lot to see outside and we did not get a chance to really investigate the outside as there was so much inside. We will be back: bringing a cooler next time to buy some wine so we can keep it fresh if it happens to be a warm day.

ONF also offers a CSA membership. My review is for the market and greenhouse in Franklin Park, which is open year-round on certain days of the week. ONF raises animals and grows produce, and it also networks with other farms and food businesses. I visited this market and greenhouse on a weekend. Plenty of free parking spaces were available. I saw an assortment of foods such as vegetables, steaks, breads, cheeses, pastas, ice creams, chocolates, etcetera. Many foods were from other businesses such as Alla Famiglia, Cherry Valley Organics, Coyne Family Farm, Lettuce Ladies, Swopes Honey, L&K Bundt Shop, Twin Brook Dairy, and many others. The greenhouse and the barn contained many dozens of plants, including annuals, perennials, and shrubs. I purchased two pies. The cashier promptly rang up my purchase, and she wished me a good day. The store charged me a 2.9% convenience fee for using a credit card.
