I've been seeing Tia for years and I absolutely love it here! I came to see Tia after another salon completely ruined my hair color.i felt like a half baked cake and Tia fixed all of that. I currently live 1.5 hours away and drive to see her every 6-8 weeks. Tia helped me grow my hair out after I shaved my head and it looks good at every single stage of the regrowth. I found Tia in a moment of crisis. My hair was incredibly tangled, and I thought I would have to cut it all off. She helped me after my regular stylist ghosted me. I've waited for the opportunity to return to her for regular care and swimming is that chance. The salon is a warm, kind, welcoming environment. Tia is honest. Tia and her staff were above excellent during my first visit to the salon! All super friendly and made you feel very welcomed. I had been scared for coloring my hair for the pst year from a different salon botching and damaging it. Tia listened to my concerns, made me feel safe in her hands, and picked the perfect color to correct the damage that was done! Josh did fantastic!! Being a college student I'm fairly broke. He let me know that he sets his balayages at $130 and he most likely won't go more than that unless he has to use toner on my hair (which he used twice) (which was fine). I'm also basically a hair stylist's nightmare. I have Hispanic heritage, so very thick and course long hair. I also box dyed it red in January. The red had faded to a rusty color so I need his help to get it back to a blonde. You can obviously tell some red is still in it, but I was so shocked he was able to get rid of it! Right off the bat he apologized for not talking too much because he was concentrating. He took so much time and patience on my hair!! He even deep conditioned it for a little bit which I didn't ask for! Overall he had extreme patience and he's such a sweetheart. He offered the wifi password to me and gave me his phone charger (I was there forever!). My mom was very happy and I'll be sending a lot of people to honeycomb. Ok everyone. I took two days to calm down before I am choosing to write and ask for your help. Earlier this week my daughter, grand-daughter and I were in a parking lot. We had over shot the entrance we were looking for so we pulled in to re-group and check the baby in the back seat. We remained in our car, running, and were there for minutes. My daughter told me someone was glaring at us/her very meanly. I ignored it because...well because we've been through it before. I'll summarize what happened next to keep this brief but please feel free to PM me. A woman with a string trimmer running came up to our car and screamed at us. We don't belong there. We needed to move immediately since she had to trim where we are parked. Called us nasty names. Attempts to diffuse didn't help - offered to move car so she could trim. Told her we just needed to regroup and check baby. She said she didn't give a hoot, used names, and was blue faced spitting angry about us being near her. Smirked when she threatened to "call the cops" and lost her mind when I told her that would be fine since we weren't doing anything wrong. Screaming ensued. Long story short. It ended when I said Oh I see...why you don't want us...I see who you are now. She stopped screaming and spit out GOOD and then screamed now get out of here you.... *%*s I have your license plate number. Full disclosure I was in full mama bear mode - my baby and her baby were in my car and this woman was screaming and brandishing the running trimmer. But I did not get out or call her anything back, etc. Baby girl had an appointment and I didn't want her to be upset so I started backing the car out. I told my daughter to watch it - that there isn't any grass here... and sure enough the woman started string trimming the gravel at our car (windows open). So I'm asking...I'm going to start posting reviews. I had an appointment with Cassie a couple of weeks ago. I debated writing a review, but I know that I rely on reviews to make choices and felt like I should. It was fine. Just. Fine. No hair disaster, nothing horrifying. Just fine. She didn't want to look at the pictures I brought. I asked for some styling tips for the summer and she responded with, "you could look on Youtube." Maybe I've just been really lucky in the past, usually stylists offer ideas for product and styling options. My hair wasn't fully dry when I left. Whatever. It was a negative experience. My hair was ok, but I went to get it cut again at another salon 2 weeks later because I didn't love it and didn't want to go back. read more

I love Liz! She listened to me and was genuinely interested in the pictures I showed her and how I wanted my hair. I haved lived in Madison 8 years and never truly found a hair dresser I trusted- always waiting to return to California to see my old hair dresser in San Francisco. Liz is a technical master of the razor and gave me a beautiful, textured yet light bob. I got compliments from everyone- even strangers. I am already planning my next appointment to have highlights done. The salon itself is easy to find off Park Street. The salon interior is open and welcoming and very modern. Cassie is the absolute best! First, I got an appointment right away, which was great. Second, I loved the style and atmosphere of the salon as well. Third, I went in to buzz half my hair and Cassie was down to do it, no questions asked, no trying to talk me out of it. I'm not a fan of when you have an idea in your head and the stylist talks you into something else that you end up not liking after it's no longer styled. She went through and buzzed it, shampooed my hair and then set to trimming it. I decided while trimming that I wanted the buzz a little shorter, and she fixed it immediately. She then styled my hair for me the way I wanted at the end. Pricing for everything was well worth it. Highly recommend! read more

I have debated on whether to write a review or not, but it has been months and I know lots of people rely on the reviews to make up their minds on places. I booked an appointment with them for my wedding (myself, my bridesmaids and my mom). The whole atmosphere and staff were really nice, and I really wanted to like them. I had a trial run for my hair and makeup weeks before the big day, and that is when things started to be not so great. My hair was beautiful at the trial, but the makeup and the application were not so great. First off, the application was done in such a way that even the most amateur makeup artist does not use anymore. Second, the lighting is not great. You see yourself in the mirror and think this looks good and then go out in the sunlight and you look completely different. I voice my concerned about the makeup application and they listen to me and made sure I got a second trial. At the second trial, they made sure I felt better about my makeup and did a decent job. I still had some doubts, but I could fix all of these at home. The day of the wedding came and I was ready with my own makeup bag just in case and thank god for that because I ended up fixing my own makeup so that I looked more like myself. Again, all the ladies were warm, welcoming and accommodating, they let us bring snacks and mimosas, but the makeup was bad. My airbrush makeup did end up looking more like my skin color this time, but everything else was questionable. I ended up fixing my contour to look more natural, my eyeshadow to blend correctly and my eyeliner to have a more cat-eye look. Again, the brushes that they used, were completely wrong, starting from the size to the shape. My nose contour was done with a large brush, that made the dark color not only go on the sides of my nose but also under my eyes. Due to the way that the eyeshadow and eyeliner were done, I felt that my eyes took on a different shape, they looked droopy. The lip color that was picked out, did not look good on my skin color in sunlight, it was extremely too light and looked wrong. I ended up using my own makeup collection to redo my own makeup at the ceremony site. As for my bridesmaids and mom. My mom came out, looking different too, she did not like the makeup look that she ended up fixing it at home too. My bridesmaids did like their makeup, but they looked older than they are and by dinner time, the makeup was cracking in areas and highlighting the wrinkles that they have. They also complained for the $20 extra charge for eyelashes! $20 !? I do not know what kind of eyelashes they used, but they were not $20 quality, I have seen better at Walgreens. Overall, it was a bad experience, but I guess you pay for what you get. This was the cheapest place I found and now I know why. I would not go there again, even if the staff is really nice. I overpaid to get crappy makeup done, that I ended up doing myself later on. I should have just done my makeup myself, I am no expert, but I do know what brushes to use and how to apply it. The same goes for my mom and my bridesmaids, I kept hearing about how they ended up paying money to fix their makeup all week long following the wedding. I am highly disappointed that I paid so much money to not feel pretty leaving the salon the 3 times I was there. What I will say, is if you go get your hair done, they are good, so there is that. read more

Awful. My hair is a mess. :/ This review is for Liz, an independent stylist with Honeycomb. We met for a consultation talked in length, was told it would be a pretty easy fix. I went in with light but brassy hair and walked out as a brunette. See the pics. They are real. The day before my appointment she texted me, had changed her tune about most of what she'd said during the consult. A fairly simple fix turned into a "complicated color correction," my hair that she'd visually/physically examined and had said was in good shape (because it is) turned into "lacking protein." She wanted to add services, hence more $. Despite her flipping the script I still went because we got on the same page (so I had thought, I'm fairly new here and looking around for a new stylist last minute wasn't happening...) Besides any stylist worth their salt could have gotten this right. Arrived, went over things again, was told the target shade or something close to it, was definitely doable, again. Definitely. Not. But it should've been. I'm realistic. I don't expect my hair to turn out exactly like a photoshopped picture but the end result was nowhere even close. She messed up then adamantly tried to convince me that it was "still as light as when I came in, only the tone had changed," said I didn't know what I was talking about because I am not a stylist. This was either a purposely botched color job, which would make her a friggin weirdo and not in a good way, or because she talks a good game but can't deliver. Either way Liz never offered to correct it, she was unapologetic, insulting and unprofessional. read more

I had an okay but not great experience with stylist Sarah. I asked for some natural-looking highlights. The results near my face were very light, almost white, and somewhat streaky. It doesn't look good. The haircut was fine. It's my least favorite haircut of the last few years but I'll put some blame on myself for that for not coming in with a clearer idea of what I wanted. For what I got it was executed fine, just fine. I had to clean up a few spots myself when I got home. I'd go get another haircut immediately but a) it's pretty short already, and b) a second haircut isn't in my budget. The price at checkout was also higher by $40 than what I had been quoted when I made the reservation. She had added more highlights without asking, and had added a toner wash when she wasn't happy with the color of the highlights - she did ask me if I wanted the wash, but she didn't show me what the color was like and didn't tell me there'd be an extra charge. I wanted to like this place, but I regret going and I won't be going again. I wish I would have spoken up more at the end of the visit. I did tell her that the highlights were a lot lighter than I expected, and she responded with an explanation of 'why that's great!'. I should have been clearer that I didn't like them, but it didn't fully sink in until I had a chance to look in the mirror at home. read more

Update for those of you who read my previous review: I had stopped my mail while on my honeymoon and hadn't received the mail I'd "missed" until the 11th of July. The owner of the salon had reached out to me with a letter apologizing, a full refund, a gift card, and a voucher for a free hair cut and manicure. She was prompt in her response, however I'd never received an email. I'm still sad that I'll never have the memory of having my hair/makeup done for the wedding, but instead I'll have the memory of my relatives stepping up to help. I don't think I'll be going back but I appreciate their gesture. read more

Candi is the best hairdresser I've been to. If you want a hairdresser that's honest about hairstyles as to what will look good for you, not just what colour or cut that is the trend or the picture you brought in. She's honest and won't leave you regretting getting that cut you saw in the magazine that you thought was a good idea yesterday, and you cry about today lol. read more

Having just moved to Madison a few months ago, I have already been to the salon a few times. Megan S. is my stylist and colorist. She did a wonderful job not only matching, but improving my haircolor. I have gray roots so that adds a little issue to coloring my hair. My roots always seem to pick up the overall color differently, so we have to be careful. Megan and her coworkers worked together to come up with the perfect color. My roots blend perfectly! The salon is modern, has lots of light and windows. Many of the staff have their hair colored with fun vibrant colors! Everyone there makes you feel comfortable, listens carefully to your needs, and makes sure you are happy before you leave. read more

Solid average nail experience. I got shellac and wanted nude but they didn't have much color selection, so we tried to layer two other colors. Bad idea, the color is blotchy. My nails were never buffed so my nail plate is uneven - which shows - and the skin around my nails is also just as rough as when I walked in. All this for $10 more than the salon I typically go to. Nice people but the quality was disappointing - now I feel like I need to get them redone somewhere else. Friendly, cute salon in a great location. Perhaps better for hair. read more

We had a mishap with scheduling for a bridal party, and were panicking about getting our hair done the morning of the wedding. We started calling around and were so lucky to talk to the incredible folks at this salon. They called in an extra stylist on his day off (thank you, Joshua!) and they all worked together to get three of us in the wedding party in and out really quickly. Everybody's hair looked amazing, and the staff and owner were fun to hang out with for a couple hours. Tia, the owner, did my updo, and it's without a doubt the prettiest updo I've ever had. I am always happy to come in to the HoneyComb; Tia is someone I really look forward to seeing. She starts every appointment with a discussion on what the goal is, for the appointment. If there is something that won't work optimally, she will let me know upfront and will offer alternative options. She has never steered me wrong with her advice, and I am always pleased when I walk out. I have baby-fine hair, and she has been able to work with it, giving me cuts that make it look full and stylish. Tia is so knowledgeable about color and when we discuss it, she will clarify points and ask questions to make sure our vision of the end result is the same. Tia is so talented that it comes out looking photo-shoot ready every single time and I am still happy with it when I work with it at home. I don't want to call her work "magic," which seems to take away from the hard work she has put into her developing her incredible abilities - but the results are certainly magical! read more

HoneyComb salon did hair and makeup for my wedding and I just loved them! The salon is very nice and has an intimate feel and the prices are fair. They let us bring mimosas and snacks while the wedding party took turns getting hair and makeup done. Tia did my hair and I thought she did a fabulous job and was fun to work with. There was a mix-up with my florist and the flower comb provided was super underwhelming but Tia was on it - she rearranged the loose flowers that were provided for the entire wedding party and made a beautiful floral arrangement for my hair as well as for the bridesmaids. Liked the atmosphere of the salon- I was offered a beverage as soon as I got there and felt relatively comfortable. I went in for a color and trim and left 3+ hours later not as happy as I thought I would. I thought my stylist knew what I wanted but apparently she must have misunderstood me because she gave me highlights, which was an additional cost I hadn't asked for. She had told me it was something to help protect my fine asian hair but I didn't think it was necessary because I just wanted an overall color. The hair washing stations were a bit uncomfortable to me and hurt the back of my neck, even with a towel behind it, not sure if it was due to my height but nonetheless it wasn't the most pleasant wash I've received. I may go back and give it a try with another stylist but that has yet to be decided. read more

I called HoneyComb for an appointment for full highlights, cut, and blow-out. I couldn't come in during work hours but I was able to get in with Tia Hunter within two weeks (which is pretty good for a 2 hour appointment after 5:30 pm)! The salon itself is neat, clean, simple and whimsically decorated. Tia took time to listen to me describe what I wanted to do with my hair and she offered advice and recommendations. She took the time to explain what she was doing and gave me some tips for maintaining the style. Tia updated the color and cut with some very subtle changes but it definitely freshened up my style! I came in recently, and I'm super unhappy with how everything turned out. I showed the stylist a photo of the color I wanted, and she just put half my hair in foils and did blonde highlights (not what was in the photo I showed her). She didn't address my roots or do anything else. While I was processing, she started working on another girl's hair. She was obviously overbooked. The timer went off for me and I continued to wait for another 20 minutes until she finished with the other person. She toned it and did nothing else to the color. I ended up with hair not anything close to the picture I showed. I have weird blonde highlights mixed in with my grown out roots. I asked to have the ends of my angled cut evened out, but to keep as much length as possible, as I'm trying to grow it out. I showed another picture which got even less attention than the other photo I had. She ended up evening the end out, but very heavily layered it. I will have to get an inch cut off just to fix the poor cut. I was offered to call and make an appointment to get it fixed free-of-charge, but I don't especially want to go back. The stylist pulled out one of my earrings by accident and lost it, she also pressed hard on my tragus piercing twice, and it wept for the next day. I understand that it was an accident, but it just added to the poor experience I had. I also overheard the one stylist talking to their client about how the paying customers are being guinea pigs as my stylist learns bayalage, even though that is normally done for free at beauty school. I sent a message on Facebook to Honeycomb Monday morning, and I have yet to get a response. read more
