Catching up on Yelp reviews. This for a visit to indie café and roaster, Sunrise Coffee Company in Port Townsend back on 8/18/18. I noticed this driving down to the Blue Moose Café, which also featured their house blend roasted by Sunrise. I ended up having a 16 ounce mocha onsite and buying another blend for home (which includes a free 8 ounce sample of the day's featured drip). Just hanging out at their front counter savoring this, having a long distance conversation with another Yelper, while charging my cell phone...how's that for multitasking? This also gave me the opportunity to experience the local ambiance. Clearly, a lot of local patrons also enjoy being here. Folks outdoors having conversations, folks indoors reading or also having conversations. Not a laptop in sight. Coffee - yes! Didn't buy any baked goods from their pastry case though. Still full from breakfast and also wondered why each one were wrapped in plastic wrap. Recommended detour in Port Townsend! read more

Gorgeous tiny coffee shop near the shipbuilding area of Port Townsend. They sell sublime coffee candles made by a local artisan. I ordered a peppermint mocha for my girlfriend and a brown sugar latte for myself. The people were very nice, and my girlfriend is still talking about the peppermint mocha, weeks later . The coffee wasn't very strong but it was well roasted. The blueberry lemon scone was incredible but the chocolate croissant was not great. The service was wonderful. They even added sprinkles for my kiddos hot chocolate. read more

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS PLACE. I love local coffee shops, but I am kind of a coffee snob since I am from Olympia and we have a plethora of AMAZING coffee roasters (Olympia Coffee Roasters, Batdorf and Bronson, Covabrelli - you get the picture). So, sometimes I want to love the shops but their coffee isn't that great. Or their service isn't good. Or their prices are high. When I walked in, I was immediately impressed. The shop itself is super cute. But it gets better! The two employees working were super welcoming and friendly AND they knew their coffee. They sell bulk coffee here,so you can try as many beans as you want. The gal who helped me knew about acidity, citrus notes, chocolate notes, nuttiness, dark - medium - light roasts. Basically she knows the business and represented her company WELL. I wish I could remember her name (cute little gal working cash register this morning 7/31 around 1030). She pointed me to several coffees and I ended up buying three bags (two bags gets you a free coffee!). Their prices are reasonable! 10.80 for a lb! And the beans are roasted twice a week. The freshness is unbeatable. I had drip coffee and my sister had an iced sf coconut latter. Both were delicious. I also had a bacon croissant that was super delicious (whats not to love about bacon, butter, and bread?). I am glad they ship because I will be doing mail order until I can get back up there in person. I cannot say enough about this coffee shop. You will not be disappointed by heading here - especially if you are an admitted coffee snob like me. read more

I didnt get to try any coffee. Why? Because I do not carry cash. I had plastic. So when I walked up to the counter and was about to order some delicious sounding cuppa joe, the employee, whom was a little rude, said they only take plastic for orders over $10.00 All I wanted was a $3.00 cuppa joe. These tiny little places should understand people do not always carry cash. And seriously$10.00 charge? I would rather go patronize Starbucks where I at least can get a smile. Too bad. Genuinely my favorite coffee shop of all time. Every time I was in Port Townsend I made sure to stop here, order the cheapest coffee I've ever had (which was, notably, vastly better than any of the more expensive coffee I've had) and a danish, made at the local Pane D'Amore, find a spot on their very comfortable leather couch, and catch up on backlogs of The New Yorker. It's not the easiest coffee shop to spot, but it's so worth it. And so, so cheap. read more

Simply awesome - I'm so thankful that this little charming spot in Port Townsend presented itself just when I needed it most. The coffee is delightful, flavorful, and rich, and the atmosphere is friendly and warm - very much the local charm one would expect from a slightly out-of-the-way shop in a small town. The baristas were smiling and chatty, the furniture eclectic and homey, and the space itself seemed filled with a welcome rough-hewn quality I loved. Not only can you buy a coffee prepared for you, you can also buy whole bean to take home with you - there's a small wall of bulk dispensers with multiple varieties and blends, from dark to light roasts, all roasted right there. Great coffee, great service, and an extra helping of small-town charm to go with it. I'm glad I found Sunrise on my last trip into Port Townsend, and I'll certainly be back for more. read more

This is a review about the coffee-stupendous. One day several years ago, the Port Townsend Leader covered a city council meeting in which efforts were being considered to bring a "smell" under control. Debates occurred, solutions were offered, few of them satisfactory to both sides of the debate. Shortly thereafter, I happened to be in the Safeway parking lot chatting with a fellow resident about the aforementioned debate. The delightful smell of roasting coffee wafted over the shipyards and both conversant agreed that PT was the next best thing to heaven- complete with good smells. Had to know who was roasting the coffee beans. Sunrise Coffee Company. Makes coffee as good as it smells. Still does, years later. Thank you, Sunrise, for making a home a home base. Sunrise coffee has been around for at least 19 years. When we lived about 40 minutes away we used to buy their coffee by the pound. Staying in Port Townsend for a few days and decided to walk over and have morning coffee. Light roast today and dark yesterday. Sunrise roasts to perfection. I was driving through PT and looking for a hot cup of Joe and thought I would give this place a try. I think most of the homeless people in PT wouldn't even drink this swill. I almost had to self-induce vomit to get rid of the taste of this vile liquid. After some hours of nausea and strong dose of antacids I was able to calm my stomach and move on....but definitely can't recommend this place (unless you want to feel what its like to have your stomach pumped) read more

Excellent coffee and nice service! Sunrise is a gem in Port Townsend. They are dog friendly and kid friendly! The shop has a laid back, lived in feel which totally fits since it's a coffee shop in the marina. I bought some beans to make cold brew at home. Their prices for beans are very reasonable at $10.50-$13/lb for their single origin beans. I would recommend this place to anyone, especially families and dog lovers! read more

Sweet little local coffee roaster/cafe. Excellent coffee. Try their FLY BY NIGHT! It's my favorite coffee I've ever tasted and I've been around the world drinking coffee. I've gotten Ethiopian beans from then green and fresh roasted them myself in small batches and that is insanely tasty but still their FLY BY NIGHT tops it all. They have snacks and espresso options as well as several good drip options. Highly recommended. read more

My wife and I have been traveling round Port Townsend, checking out the coffee shops. Our favorite tasting coffee so far: SUNRISE COFFEE COMPANY. This is the first review for it on Yelp. I guess because Sunrise Coffee Co is off-the-beaten track, directly across from Safeway in Pt. Townsend. Not only is the coffee roasted on the premises and excellent, the baristas are very nice!!! WOW! Looked up coffee roasters while in Port Townsend and decided to stop by and take a bag home. I was so sorry that I haven't picked up several bags to bring home once I tried the Port Townsend Blend. Drank that fairly fast and was happy to see that you could order online. When the order came, included was a sample whole bean bag of the Sunrise Blend. This was even better! Can't wait to try the rest of them and recommend that you try at least one! read more

I've got to give this place 5 stars because it's my current favorite coffee. It's fresh roasted (within the last week, which is the best, for antioxidant value, taste and I don't get a bad reaction to it) and organic, and really good. The baristas are really nice. The place is homey and comfortable. I currently buy my coffee for home here. I've sent their coffee to friends in another state. The only thing is I wish they had more food, including a selection of gluten-free. I saw another review that listed they have it, so perhaps I keep showing up after it's been sold. I've been here a number of times. I mainly show up for the great coffee though, and will keep showing up. read more

This seems to be Port Townsend's hotspot for coffee. They roast on site, the staff is friendly and, most importantly, the coffee is good. You can buy beans in bulk to take home. On my visit, it got a little loud (yes, it's popular and a great place to hang out) but still enjoyable. read more
