Not any current reviews here. Hubby and I went tonight for dinner looking for a nice dinner I didn't have to cook. I'd had lunch here once before and it was ok enough. Appetizers: Crab rangoons were huge and tasty. The wonton was a little tough in spots and not sure how much crabmeat was in there, but the size made up for it. Pot stickers were really yummy. We enjoyed these immensely. I give these an A. Dinner: He ordered broccoli chicken, a safe choice. He thought it was awful and tasteless. I never saw anyone salt Chinese food before! Claimed the chicken was mushy. I tasted it and had to agree that the brown sauce was pretty flavorless. I had the Szechuan triple. It was tastier due to the spicy seasoning but I had to agree that the chicken and the beef, while tender, seemed a bit mushy like it was soaked too long or something. I'd give it a C because I was hungry. Atmosphere/Service: Very clean. We were first dinner guests tonight. Waitress literally looked us and without greeting just tossed a couple menus in the booth for us. Food did arrive quickly after we ordered. I was informed there were no chopsticks. She did refill our water but never asked us how things were. Service gets a C. I don't think I'll be able to get my husband to try Hong Kong again. We've had good, fresh Chinese food before and this really missed the mark. Very disappointed. read more

Great hidden gem! The food was awesome and the location felt very warm and welcoming.

The food was amazing. We had the meal for three. It came with beef and onions and then it also came with sweet and sour pork and it also came with the great chicken dish. It was served with a hot and sour soup and also appetizers. The appetizers were crab meat, rangoons egg roll, fried shrimp, and some amazing fried chicken. The lady was very attentive. She filled our water glasses several times during the course of the meal and was great and amazing. I don't understand why this place gets a bad rap. Everything was so good. June, 4, 2024 I went to Hong Kong with my son and we got spring rolls, crab Rangoon and egg drop soup. All of the appetizers were delicious as always. We ordered sweet-and-sour chicken and sesame chicken, which were both delicious. The serving sizes were a lot smaller than usual, however with the economy, how it is, it's no wonder. We used to get a plate full of the entrée with an accompanying bowl of rice and now it is about half the size with the rice included on the plate. It may have just been because we were there around lunchtime so maybe that's the lunchtime portions. A few years ago we went and the Mongolian beef tasted burnt, hence the four stars. I didn't let it deter me from going back, but I am still leery of ordering that same dish again. Service can be a bit slow, so if you are on a schedule just be prepared. I agree with other reviewers that the waitress could act like you exist. I chalked it up to maybe she had a bad day, but I guess not. Overall the food is delicious. I may stop here if I was hungry for Chinese in town, but if I am home in Waverly, I definitely would go to Asian Gardens as they are amazing! read more

The only reason I give this 3 stars is there food is outstanding! That is where it ends. My wife and I went there for lunch today. Upon arrival we were second inline. The restaurant was not full but busy with one person working. It took 15-20 minutes to even to be acknowledged that we were there and then the only words out of her mouth were 25 minutes after we had been there 15. The whole time we were they there she NEVER EVER smiled! Please just acknowledge that we are there and let us know how long not just totally ignore the us! We went to another restaurant for lunch and will not go back. The service industry has been FAILING since Covid. HAVE SOME PERSONALITY!! If you are that unhappy stay home!! customer service is so horrible here.. I used to come here all the time and they have gone completely downhill.. I went to order soup and apparently you are not allowed to have Krispi wontons for the soup anymore.. Then I asked for chopsticks and she says not for to go orders wtf. Not to mention the quality and amount of food you get is horrible for the price.. Usually poor attitude with service, like she hates her job. Lunch served 11-2 Walked in before 2:00 waited a couple minutes for assistance, was told no lunch served, she said it's 1:58. I said it's not 2 yet. She just walked away. The food is OK, no alcohol served and rarely come back to check on you. The place wants to shut down. I went out of my way to Golden China, always excellent service and good food. Can't support small businesses when they don't care. Make the trip to GoldenChina, they're open until 3:00 for lunch and are so nice. read more

I wish I could give them a high rating, but the service is HORRIBLE... which makes the whole experience a one star. The food itself is a solid 4. I really enjoyed the Lo mein and Empress chicken (which seems to be a favorite of many people who eat here). The lunch special is a pretty good price as well. I would highly recommend making a TAKE OUT ORDER. It seems they only have one waitress and she is very rude and mad at the world. She was snappy and rushes you to order. At the very least know that if you get treated badly it's not your fault, they treat everyone rudely. read more

The line is busy........ repeatedly! I drove over and went in. No one came to the counter. Another lady came in. Someone came and brought her a carry out order. She must have called before they took the phone off the hook. I placed my order of sweet & sour shrimp, almond chicken, crab rangoons and knowing they don't include soup with meals in the evening, a cup of egg drop soup. "$40.75". What? She slapped a menu on the counter and walked off. I left and got Chinese, a meatloaf dinner and an order of crab rangoons at HyVee, $24.58. One of my favorite places to eat in Cedar Falls. The food here is always delicious. Their lunch special cannot be beat!! Less than $7 for soup, spring roll, fried rice and entree! What more do you want?? It runs 11 am to 3 pm during the week. Dinner here is also an excellent deal, and one meal is enough for two. I wish I could come here more often. I usually get the General Tso chicken and ALWAYS get the hot and sour soup. I love the soup. I have come here and just got soup and spring rolls before because they are delicious! Awful experience and even more frightening was the meat we were given in our meals. Ordered garlic chicken and chicken broccoli however the substance in each meal was presented as chicken but not chicken at all. I am not certain what type was in each dish but I am certain it was not chicken. The substance had a very fatty texture and when biting into it lacked any taste at all. When returning to the restaurant the cashier became upset immediately and insisting that I "shut my mouth and stop speaking as she was not going to listen ". She then further insisted that the substance was "white meat and everyone else said it was chicken". After continuing to be disrespectful she ultimately returned our money. I will never go there again. I am still not sure what it was in the dish but you will not fool me twice. You be your judge., see picture. read more

Wow this place has really gone downhill! Used to be so good. The carpet was filthy with long holes in it. The chairs were dirty and some of them were covered in thick plastic that was shredding off. Food is pretty good but the last time we went there we called ahead to ask how late they were open and we were told 8:30pm. This used to be our favorite Sunday noon spot. We had quit going.. Food fabulous. But bad sad service. Decided to give them a try yesterday as we were meeting friends. Had to wait and wait to even be presented a menu...then wait and wait to place order....we were going to leave..but stayed..again I say..food was good when finally served Had to wait and wait up front so we could pay and leave. Sad part was as we paid a guy came up and said we want to pay for what we have received and cancel our order..so it wasn't just us.. Hong Kong is a longtime favorite. A pleasing atmosphere, fantastic food, and large portions at very reasonable prices. At lunch time six or seven dollars will get you a full entree with rice, a rangoon, spring roll, and tea. The "Best Crab Rangoons In Town" sign is no idle boast. In five states I have yet to find a rangoon to rival them. The only thing standing in the way of giving Hong Gong a well-deserved 5th star is the fact that they are often understaffed for large crowds leaving one or two servers to handle a room full. I wish I could give it a 0! Two years ago, it would have been five stars. My last few visits here have been very disappointing. Both times I've gone, we've waiting in the front to be seated for several minutes. Finally the server who gives you a blank stare, explains she is sorry for the wait in her monotone voice, and seats you. Today she asked if we wanted something besides water to drink, and I asked for a can Pepsi. She said all they had was fountain, and I explained they have a big case up front with a variety of sodas. She said that is for her to-go guests only. I just stayed with water. We were not even offered tea. We placed an order for crab ragoons, which we almost tasteless. She then sat another table, brought their drinks, and then took their dinner order before ours. We were there at least 20 minutes before them. After dinner I needed a box and we waited another 15 minutes before she checked on us (she had already dropped off the bill). I went here for lunch. I have to admit, if I would have read the previous 2 reviews, I never would have walked thorugh the door. That being said... Ok, I got the waitress that specializes in the blank stare when you ask her something, but she was nice. And the food was quite good. The Hot sour soup was at the perfect consistency and tasty to boot. Crab Rangoon was definitely above average . It might have taken a little too long for the main course to arrive, but when it did, it was hot and the General Tso Chicken some of the best I've had. The price was very reasonable. Just not good. The sesame chicken was probably the worst quality I've ever had, and the beef and broccoli I ordered as a replacement wasn't any better. Fried rice, usually my favorite food, wasn't cooked thoroughly and was bland, nothing added to it. Egg roll admittedly was incredible. Not enough to save this place. Felt unclean and had rushed service. You can find much better elsewhere. Like seriously just go to Panda Express and you'll be better off. Went to Hong Kong at around 1:15pm and the place was decently steady but they only had one server who was working her butt off and the other man there just sat tables and bussed a few. Just brought home our food. I got the Mongolian chicken and my wife had sizzling seafood rice. First the good. The spring rolls and crab rangoons were fine and that's where is stops. The sizzling seafood rice had no sauce and tasted off. My Mongolian chicken smelled like it was rotten. Like stinking gym socks. I threw it away. We were looking forward to this all week. Great place for lunch! The setting is nothing outstanding, it seems like your basic Chinese restaurant with plastic on the seats. However, their lunch specials are only around $6, and this includes a savory and perfectly crispy spring roll, crab rangoon (apparently best in town), hot tea per your request, your choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup, and a nice variety of entree options. I went to Hong Kong for lunch a couple of days ago. First, the good. I started with water with lemon...no lemon was brought, but I didn't care much about that and the hot tea tasted good. I had the egg drop soup and this was pretty good along with the rangoon. Not great or anything special, just good. Then came the entree...I ordered the beef with broccoli. The flavor was good, although salty. The broccoli was also good. That's the end of the good. The beef, is not beef. I chewed and chewed and finally took the "beef" out of my mouth and left it on my plate. I tried another piece. Same thing. I had a pile of half chewed fat on my plate. Every piece was fat. Pure fat. No beef whatsoever. When the brown sauce that the fat is covered in is off after chewing, you see that you are actually chewing a chunk of fat. This was not a fatty piece of beef, this was purely fat and sinew. It is as if they purchased the fat that fine dining restaurants cut off of their beef and they cooked it in brown sauce to hide what it really is. I expressed my concerns to the waitress who told me that she apologizes and that they tenderize the beef with baking soda and they must not have tenderized it well enough. I told her that this was pure fat so how do you tenderize this? I picked up a piece that I had not chewed and showed her that it was so tough that I couldn't even pull it apart with my fingers no matter how hard I pulled. It was ridiculous! She again apologized and the owner/cook came out and she translated for him as he said that sometimes they get meat that isn't up to their standards and they were not aware of it and they will talk to their distributor about this. Now, how can you not tell the difference between beef and pure fat as a restaurant owner? I do not know, but what I do know, is that there are much better chinese restaurants in town than this and I won't be coming back. Well we went here again and it wasn't near as good as the last time we went. We took it to go since we stayed in a hotel and it was not what we expected. The food was fresh but the veggies were way over cooked and the egg drop soup tasted like they had fish water in it. When we got there I let them know I was picking up my to go order and she said it will be a minute I'm gonna ring him up first. Then she walked away and never came back this was some Asian lady. Then a another lady walked up with an order and said can I help you? I let her know I was picking up and order for Logan. She goes ok what did you order. I didn't order it my other half did so I was like I don't and have her a few things we ordered and then she rambled off all of it and I'm like ya that must be it. I asked why they asked for a name if they didn't even write it down. I go no response to my question. We will give it a try again but very disappointed in this trip! read more

I have tried to find Chicken Fried Rice as good as Hong Kong's, but have failed miserably. I have been going to Hong Kong since 1997 and get the same dish every time. Their marquee out front usually says "Best Rangoon in Town" and I absolutely agree, the Rangoon are great, as well as the Egg Drop Soup. If you like Chicken Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon, you have to try Hong Kong! read more

One of my most favorite restaurants in the Cedar Valley. Their appetizers are amazing, especially the crab ragoons with house sweet and sour sauce. Portions are large, many lunch specials come with appetizers. General Tso is where it's at. Noodles are great, too! read more

It really depends on what you order. I always get shrimp lo mein which is quite good, and the servers are awlays nice and the tea is good as well. Nothing special, but it's probably the best Chinese place you'll see in Cedar Falls. read more

Recommended by my daughter, and was pleasantly surprised. Had Mongolian beef which was perfect. Egg drop soup, hot and tasty. Reasonably priced and waitress checked on us three or four times. My only complaint would be that they put the crispy noodles right in the soup before serving. Even though I like them in my soup, I prefer to put them in gradually as I eat it. We have gone to Hong Kong about 20 times in the past 5 years and it used to be really, really good. Today we went and ordered the same dishes we usually get: Hot Braised Pork, Homestyle Beef, Beef with Orange Peel and Chicken fried rice. I should have known when we got in the door that something was off because the place smelled bad- typically you can smell the onions and garlic cooking- today it smelled like a sewer leak. The cuts of meat they used are NOT the same ones they've used in the past. The chicken (white meat) was fatty and tough and the rice tasted like it was cooked in rancid grease. The beef in the homestyle beef has always been fork tender, it was chewy and fatty. The Beef with Orange peel, in the past, has been worth the extra money because it is thinly sliced, crispy pieces of beef that crunch when you bite them and was really excellant. Today it was overladen with grease, the flavor of the sauce was not as intense, the beef was (again) chewy and fatty. Where it used to be crispy, it was now just hard. The Hot Braised pork was mainly breading and again the flavor was bland. The Hot and Sour soup was still pretty good, as was the spring roll. I am incredibly disappointed because the other nearby options (Hy Vee, China Wok and Panda) are okay, but have never been as good as Hong Kong. I will not be going back and I don't see how they are going to stay in business if they don't get their act together. read more

Entrees can be kinda average but, egg drop soup and crab meat rangoons are wonderful. Hong Kong is a wonderful little restaurant with a friendly staff and most of the entrees I have tried have been great. However, my meat eating friends have been a little more unimpressed with some of the food. Also, food service is very quick. Really recommend Hong Kong. read more

First time here and probably our last. We waited about 10 minutes before anyone saw us up front. It was 7pm they had two large tables and two small. So not that busy. We finally get seated brought us water but didn't ask if we wanted anything else to drink. Usually at Chinese Restaurants they offer tea but not here. We ordered Crab Rangoon. They were pretty good. But we only had on wrap of silverware for 3 of us. Usually silverware is on table before sitting or they have it with them when you sit. The lady finally takes our order. Comes back out to tell us there is no egg drop soup. Who runs out of egg drop soup? We waited 45 minutes before our meal came out. Went for lunch. Got immediate seating and friendly fast service. Crab Rangoon was outstanding. Egg Drop soup was very good. Main dishes were both delicious. The restaurant itself is very clean. Noticed the staff was taking extra steps of wiping clean glasses with dry cloth before putting on the shelf. I will definitely go back. read more
