The place is dirty, cluttered and the food is not very good. We made the mistake of eating in and the filthy to go pickup box by the door should have been a clue. They have supplies sitting on the tables and shelves in the dining room. The lady behind the counter was sitting over a big tub of fried wontons scooping them bare handed into bags while talking loudly on the phone the entire time we were there. I order what I typically order at other Chinese restaurants, dumplings and cashew chicken. The dumplings were inedible - the pastry was .5-1cm thick and the texture was gummy. You get better dumplings from the frozen section at a grocery store. The main course I ordered was overly salty and inedible as well. The rice was cook ok. . . I hate giving bad reviews especially to small businesses, but I'm going to have to share my experience so hopefully something is done by the employees to help the restaurant. I walk in and placed a to go order for a lunch special, but I wanted white rice instead of fried rice. Well I got fried rice. The fried rice also had pork in it and I don't eat pork When I went back in to get my order after 10 minutes, my lunch special was done, but they didn't make my egg drop soup, and no one was making it. The worker only realized that it wasn't done after I walked in to pick up my order. It's not the biggest deal because they made it in 5 minutes, however, I think being more detail oriented will go a long way for the business. The two starts is for the soup because it's good, needs salt, but it's fine. The chicken and broccoli is bland just like other reviews say. Anyways, I hope not everyone's experience is my own and I understand that everyone has different palates, but just be weary the lack of attention the workers pay to your order. read more

I don't know who could give this place 5 stars It's a 1.5 star Chinese takeout joint Food is well below average for Chinese take out. Wonton soup has no flavor at all. Literally like warm water with a little food coloring. Beef with Chinese veg was terrible. Beef was steamed of something and was like chewing on rubber bands. Lo mein tasted like dirt. Walked in and ordered the General Tso lunch portion with fried rice today. Waited about 7 minutes since everything is made to order (and piping hot). The food was tasty and the lunch portion was just right for $6.21 including tax. I'm the type of person who needs to add hot mustard, soy sauce and duck sauce to most of my fast food Chinese take out and this was the case here as well. FYI, there is no dine in option at this restaurant and really hasn't been since Covid hit the US. In the long run, that might not really hurt this restaurant much. This has been my #1 Chinese takeout place for years. They've made some changes for COVID19 to ensure a safe pickup. As for my fave appetizers, the crab rangoon and steamed dumplings are not to be missed. I love the Singapore Mei Fun in the noodle dishes. And the Szechuan Shrimp and Sesame Chicken (ask for spicy version) are my go-to's in the entree section. The have great chicken and broccoli and I really enjoy their wonton soup! Their fried chicken in some of their dishes always has an off texture to me so it's not my favorite. I like to stop by this place whenever I'm in the area because I LOVE their Singapore mei fun! You can get regular or spicy. It's so delicious and so much comes in that tiny square box! It's located behind the shell station in a little strip mall area next to GOODWILL. I haven't really tried any of their other dishes. One thing I do notice about these chains of Chinese food...even with the same name.. they ALL make the dishes a little differently so if you like the way they make something I very much insist you go right back to that same place because I learned the hard way it's all owned by different people and they have the SAME names dishes but they do their own thing cooking it. You get very large portions of food, and because their business is so brisk, it is always freshly made and delicious. I especially recommend the Mu Shu. I visited this place 2 times. The first time, the lady was talking on the phone the entire time. It took her over a minute to ask me if I knew what I wanted to order. I think it demonstrates rudeness and disrespect for customers. She should have told her girlfriend to hold on instead. I gave her benefit of the doubt hat time. Ordered take out here for my boyfriend, his son and myself around 8:30 PM and food was ready in 15 minutes. When I walked in the place was PACKED... maybe 7-8 other patrons either ordering or picking up orders, and the staff were extremely kind, patient and accommodating to their customers. I got garlic chicken and crab Rangoon and both were incredible! I got the large garlic chicken and easily had 3 meals out of it. I have to give them kudos because their crab Rangoon are some of the best I've had! It's the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and crispy. They have new owners (or new operators) since the last time I ate here a few years ago. The present people are from the China mainland (not Hong Kong), so the food no longer has that South China/Cantonese flair, and is more like the standard Mandarin Chinese restaurants. The menu and preparation are pretty much standard, with the common red-and-black menu, and back-lit pictures above the cashier counter. I had my standard Moo Goo Gai Pan, and noticed the freshness of the vegetables, and just the right amount of seasoning, no excess salt, chicken was good, the egg roll was great, and the pork-fried-rice was superb, with lean and succulent pork chunks, not the usual dried out pieces that normally come in pork-fried-rice. Noticeable differences from standard Chinese walk-up-and-order restaurants are the self-serve soda fountain (Pepsi products), disposable chopsticks available alongside the self-serve plastic utensils, larger than average dining area, and a rack of kids' toys and puzzles, placed out near the magazine rack, so they were probably as much for customers' children as the owners' children. On the northside it is rare to find places like these which are cheap are hole in the wall sort of places. That being said this place has a very big menu with so many options refereeing all the meats and veggies options. I have ordered take out before from here couple of times and the portions are always big and more than sufficient for 2 meals for me. considering that i think this place is a steal and definitely worth the money as the taste is pretty good too. My family and I have been eating at HKC for easily the last 9 or 10 years or so. It's by far the most common place we go for Chinese take out. The food is always made fresh and in a timely manner, (I can call in my usually fairly big order, and it will be done by the time I arrive to pick it up). The lady who runs the place is friendly and always on the go. It's American Chinese takeout done right. Big fan of their Mu Shu Pork and Orange Flavoured Chicken, as well as their steamed dumplings.
