I remember when this place was called Eastern China. I went here often as I lived and worked nearby. The name of the place changed but the taste and quality of the food has not - it was still amazing! The Mongolian beef and chicken have the best sweet and spicy sauce. The crab Rangoons are always filled with filling, crunchy and fresh. I live a little further away now but will make the trip because I haven't found a good Chinese place on the north side. The store advertises in their menu online that the crab Rangoon comes with sweet chili sauce. After getting back home with my meal, I found that was not included. I called the establishment and they said no it wasn't on there and I had to show them and talk to three different people and they still Refused to say they had the chili sauce. They said they didn't have any such thing they refused to take the cost of the crab Rangoon off my bill and they refuse to bring me any of the sweet chili sauce that was advertised. The first two people I talk to were very unhelpful the third person which I assume was an owner or manager was indignant and condescending. Attached are screenshots, showing their menu as advertised on their website. Any restaurant who can't make this right when they have an error like this should not be in business. I decided to give this spot a try as it is close to my doggie daycare and boy am I glad that I did. I placed my order online via beyond menu and it was ready on time. I was greeted by a nice lady when I entered and she got my order thanked me and handed it to me and I was on my way. The hot and sour soup was great! Eastern China is only a short walk from my office building, which makes it a great option when I'm in a pinch and tired of sandwich delivery. In all honesty, the menu is the same standard for all small Chinese joints around Indy that are primarily take-out/delivery establishments. You know the ones I'm talking about. You walk in, there are only a handful of tables, a dozen pictures of dishes posted high on the wall, and a tri-fold menu waiting for you at the counter. All the dishes are assigned a letter/number combo. Yeah, we all know what I'm talking about. Although the menus may be the same, the quality of the various establishments varies. Eastern China does not. It's consistent, decent quality, Americanized Chinese take-out. And a great on-the-go option. The service could be smiley-er, but never misses on efficiency. Tried this place versus Mandarin House because of the GrubHub delivery via yelp. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either. And I am extremely disappointed that the special instructions I entered for my order were not followed at all. My husband hates garlic, but apparently they missed the 'no garlic' on his chicken and vegetable entrée. I asked for straight lo mein, no vegetables, for my daughter... loaded with veg. Needless to say half of it is pretty much in the trash, which is disappointing. I'm making myself eat some of the fried rice and lo mein that's left in the fridge just so I don't waste too much. Ordered something simple: small spare ribs and a pint of house lo mein. Upset they didn't have the reusable containers for the lo mein and such like I usually get, but you get over it. Got home, fed my dogs, took them out, settled down and got ready to eat and I was given fried rice instead of lo mein. Yes I should have checked it, but you kind of assume the easiest orders won't get messed up when you're the only person ordering. I was charged for lo mein as well, which is what upset me the most. After driving all the way back (15 min-isn't too bad, but still not favourable), I explained the issue and the food was took from me with no apology given and they started talking to each other in a hostile tone, quite loudly, which isn't something you expect from a professionalism standpoint. Haven't tried the food yet (so I'm giving it three stars in hopes the food will earn that third star), but the customer service, professionalism, and order accuracy is very lacking. This is a standard Chinese food dive with standard shrimp and pork egg rolls. An order of crab rangoon is free if you spend more than $20, just make sure to ask for it. The chow mei fun is a family favorite (thin rice noodles with bok choy, other veggies, and choice of protein). We love the chicken with mushrooms which is packed with white chicken and button mushrooms in a brown sauce. The crunch from the celery, carrots, and nuts in the chicken almond ding offers texture that you normally don't get with Chinese food. The sweet and sour shrimp are jumbo sized so only five pieces fit into a pint, but their fluffy and crispy texture leave me wanting more. If it's close to your work or home, stop by and try it. Don't expect the curry or kung pao chicken to be spicy though. Request heat if you want some. They offer delivery, but I've never had success with them being able to take down my address. I had the General Tso's Chicken lunch special with egg drop soup and fried rice. The fried was so-so, but I usually don't eat a whole lot of the rice at Chinese places anyways. The egg drop soup wasn't anything too out of the ordinary, but it was delicious. The General Tso's was excellent. For the price, you can tell they definitely use higher quality ingredients than most Chinese restaurants. The sauce was outstanding. We live in Louisville and have tried several different Chinese takeout places and have not been this happy in quite some time. Friday night, quick in and out, but the kicker is the food was fantastic. Like, way above expectation. My wife got sweet and sour chicken and oh my, sooooo much chicken. Not just quantity, but quality. It was really good, all white meat, very tasty. I had the Kung Pao, it was solid, had a nice spiciness. Although it wasn't as fresh, I don't have any real complaints. The egg rolls were good, and a couple of crab Rangoon's found their way into the bag and they were awesome.
