My second time coming to Spice Alley, I was in the mood for dumplings so I came right up to the counter and ordered what I was so craving.
The options are obviously a bit limited given the small Spice Alley situation but they have all the most popular standards. I ordered the BBQ pork buns, chicken and shrimp shumai and the xiao long bao. Honestly, if I were rating just the dumplings (and the fairly slow and apathetic service), I'd give this place 2 stars because it could have been better. However, my partner had ordered the beef brisket rice set the first time we came in and it was excellent and he had much better service.
The xiao long bao didn't have much soup and the accompaniments they serve here aren't really what I'm looking for when eating this. It was either siracha, sweet chili sauce (yes, the predominantly Thai sauce) and soy sauce. The shumai were ok but filled with a lot of cartilage, which made them pretty unappetizing to me. The bbq pork buns were good. I've had worse.
If I had realized there weren't many reviews (or any, lol) I would have been more thoughtful to take more pictures but the camera didn't eat first this night. read more
