Great little yummy Chinese spot in the middle of the Seascape Village. We love getting it because it's easy to have veggie and meat options for all food preferences. **Overall: 3.5 stars** We ordered 3 dishes, and overall, we enjoyed them all, though the string beans were a little too salty. When eaten with rice, it was fine. The dishes we ordered were packed to the brim, and we are talking SO packed that the bag had sauce at the bottom that it made a mess of the boxes, sauce packets and fortune cookies (though YAY for getting fortune cookies). The fried rice was the surprising hit of the 3 dishes we ordered because it wasn't greasy and had the right balance of flavor. The chicken chow fun had noodles clumped together and a little bit of veggies, but somehow it tasted like it was missing something. I had to reach for hot sauce, which I rarely do since I don't like spicy foods! When ordering online, there was a comment section where I asked for utensils, but alas -- there were no utensils to be found. Other positives: - The people inside were friendly during pickup, and there were several customers inside already, so it was nice to see they were on top of customer service. - The restaurant is located in the adorable Seascape Village so you can walk around or have a drink before/after. We placed our order and asked for it to be delivered. The delivery went very smooth. Everything we asked for as far as extra sauces, etc. was included, which was great. The food portions were large. The food had good flavor; however, the chicken looked like it had been massaged to death. It was rubbery without texture and we had to wonder. Was it even chicken? We had sesame chicken, Kung, pow, chicken, general tao's chicken, and chicken fried rice. The chicken in each and every dish was to us, inedible. The general Tao's was very heavily breaded with minimal chicken inside. The sesame chicken was normal looking except the chicken inside was again little and we have to wonder was it really chicken. When we question whether it was really chicken at all that is because of the rubbery texture; although, to be honest, that's the only texture that there was. If you aren't picky about your meat, then by all means order all this, but if you are stay far far away. read more

Tasty Chinese food spot in Aptos--flavors were very good. We really enjoyed garlic veggies we ordered that were extremely well cooked. The fried fish and fried chicken dishes were fried well in that they were not overly oily and were tasty although over breaded. The fried rice and beef and broccoli dishes were also tasty. Overall we didn't love our experience at Hong Kong Garden. The chow main was quite solid, with a good flavor and texture. The other items we ordered were quite disappointing. The char siu bao had a strange flavor to it, maybe dark soy sauce? Something really stood out as not quite right with the dish. And the sesame chicken was very, very sweet, which we didn't expect. This restaurant is a bit uneven. We've ordered quite a few times and sometimes it's pretty good, sometimes mediocre and sometimes not good at all. We've eaten there, and also sometimes pick up. Latest order included an overly salty shrimp fried rice (plus, hardly any shrimp), which was very disappointing. It was also quite cold which is strange since we weren't late picking it up and we live close by so it wasn't a distance issue. Bbq pork appetizer is always good though. HK Gardens Watsonville-All deep fry (Sw Sour Chicken, Honey Prawns, etc) are excellent. They know how to deep fry with the right amount of batter and they keep the meat from getting overcooked. No empty fillers in the batter-all meat. The Szechuan eggplant is also really good. read more

I live nearby and it's convenient but I would drive many miles to get Chinese food this food. Baby bok choi and mushrooms is fresh and spiced just right (they will season to taste, just ask). Mongolian beef and the lemon chicken are favorites for locals. Sesame balls are a great treat for apps or dessert. Dinner specials work for a crowd after the beach when we don't want to cook. Came here since I had previously eaten here and gotten a great experience. It is open during Covid. We did phone order for dinner and was able to get in after numerous attempts of calling in. We ordered the Buddha veggie dish, beef soup, beef chow fun and lemon chicken. Everything was delicious as expected. We were a bit worried since via phone order it was an hr wait which was okay however I went early to kill time and got ice cream prior to the hr mark. Our food wasn't ready at the expected time, I would say I waited an additional 25min. Folks were standing idle also waiting for their food. They kept on asking when their food would be ready. First try we just ordered hot and sour soup, as that is our "benchmark" for telling if it's good Chinese food or not, and it did not disappoint. Acid and heat were where they were supposed to be, maybe a little salty/soy saucey, and I like a little sesame oil to finish at the end, but overall 4 stars for the soup. Next time around was a rainy day, so was craving the soup again but wanted to check another dish and got some Chow Mein. Everything was perfect, veggies Al dente, not too much oil, good char on the noodles, and a great ratio of veggie/noodle/meat. Both orders were ready on time and correct. First and last time eating at this restaurant. I ordered curry chicken for dinner, after a few bites I tasted that the chicken was undercooked, I wanted to send the dish back. The waitress became angry, refused to understand what I was asking, sent a man out to speak to me. The man became more elevated and refused to take the dish off the bill, continued to argue, started to pick into the dish with my fork and was yelling at me that I was a picky eater and had no right to refuse to pay for the dish I had ordered. This restaurant really disappointed me. Decided to come here for dinner . They seated us immediately and within a few minutes the hostess came to take our order . Looking forward to eating dinner, only the drinks and soup bowls were dropped off. Thinking the food was going to follow, it never did. After 45 minutes of waiting , our frustration and stomach was starting to get worse . We then approached the hostess to ask what's with the long wait . Hostess was gone. Warning! Food is tasteless, service not good at all, ambience is a dead place and have a musty smell. We ordered hot & sour soup and taste like water with cornstarch and vinegar, and the Mongolian beef was not that good either. Food was served on paper plates and plastic utensils, we want the rest to go, ( don't know why we want it, but what she did was put an aluminum foil on the food and call it good), I asked for to proper to go container, the "assumed owner" threw a tantrum letting us know she's not happy giving us the to go container. We came here during our stay at Seascape resort. I was craving Chinese food since our local restaurant closed a few weeks ago. We thought the food was quite good. The food was fresh and fast, very hot and loaded with seafood. Ordered the Hong Kong style seafood chow mien, green beans with beef and chicken salad. Living in San Francisco, I am spoiled with good Chinese restaurants like San tung and Old Beijing, but never would I have thought to find this hidden treasure in Aptos. I go to Seascape to bodyboard and skim on the weekends and this is my 3rd week of eating at Hong Kong Garden. The food is not greasy at all, they don't use any MSG, table are not sticky (very important) and the service is very good. All at a very reasonable price and good portions. I talked to the cook and he has been a chef for over 20 years and use to be head chef in San Francisco. I recommend the Beef Tofu soup with Cilantro, Manchurian spare ribs, Mixed Stir fry Vegetables, and Hot Plate Beef. If you decide to take your family to the Boardwalk for the weekend, definitely drive an extra 15 minutes and try Hong Kong Garden Restaurant. You won't be disappointed. read more

Soup was excellent. My wife ordered general chicken I ordered sweet and sour pork and rice for two. We were so disappointed and will not eat there again. There were zero vegetables in the sweet and sour pork, just like it came from a bag and they poured a sugar sauce over it. I think I had tried just about every sizzling rice soup in town, trying to find one that tasted similar to the former best (China Szechwan that closed down years ago, now Hula's downtown). I didn't even know this place existed until somebody on NextDoor mentioned it, so we gave it a try and I had low hopes for my beloved sizzling rice soup, but this one is IT!!! Sooooo so good!! My husband was equally pleased with his Wonton soup and Hot & Sour soup. We will DEFINITELY be returning for the soups on a frequent basis. The operation is very small and was busier than usual with take-out orders, but Andrew was friendly and literally RAN our order out to our car once ready. The hot & sour soup is unique and good, and the menu items in general are nice, not too oily, and with reasonable portion size. The menu prices as well have stayed very reasonable. One of our favorite Chinese restaurants to go in the area! The prices are unbeatable and food is solid every time. My boyfriend and I always have to order the Mongolian beef. It's one of our favorite dishes there, and no other restaurant makes it like they do. We've also ordered fish fillet with black bean, beef chow fun, and sizzling platters -- all delicious and authentic. We usually get the lunch special which comes with soup and is very reasonably priced (all under $9). The family that owns the restaurant is so friendly! We had a great experience at Hong Kong Garden! We ordered take-out over the phone (the online system wasn't working). The person was courteous and asked clarifying questions to get our order correct (e.g., no water chestnuts on anything). Food was ready in about 20 minutes - not bad! The best part - the food was delicious! We listened to other reviewers and ordered the Chow Fun with vegetables. It was savory and full of a variety of veg. It was our favorite selection. We also had chow mien with shrimp - also very good with nicely cooked shrimp. The sauce is delicate so when enjoyed with the other dishes we ordered, it almost tasted a bit bland. We had Buddha delight, which was very well cooked. I like a variety of vegetables, and they had a great mix. The tofu was nicely sautéed (not fried). We also had orange chicken.
