Enjoyed dinner on a Sunday night. Place is spacious & clean with excellent service. They DON'T RUSH YOU like all other Asian places. The menu is enormous as they have Chinese, Thai, Mongolian, & Japanese food. We loved the Miso soup - chock full of goodies. The pork ramen was also excellent. For entree's I had the Chicken red curry - good but I've had better at true Thai places. We also enjoyed a shrimp entree & the Hibachi shrimp. Ordered take out from here. First time in a long time. We ordered the following: Pint of Hot&Sour soup - for my wife, it was too peppery. I thought it was okay but not much substance to it. Just thickened broth. Egg roll - We each ordered one and they were very small. They were not very good. Almost tasted like it was store bought. General Tso Chicken - chicken was okay but dry. The sauce was good but very little sauce. The broccoli was under cooked. It was okay but not great. Beef with snow peas - this was tasty and the beef was very good. The sauce was also very good. Amazing place to get food service was great food was fresh and hot we had the edamame, egg rolls and for our mains Mongolian beef as well as the hibachi trio. They bring out these chip things I think they are wonton chips and they get served with duck sauce they are great. I want to preface this review saying that we have been customers of Hong Kong Palace for 35 years. On may the 14th 2025 I went to KH palace and spent 90 dollars on food.This was for a special Occasion that will not be repeated again. The good, Egg rolls were the same quality, much smaller when the previous owner was there but still the same taste and quality, The Duck Sauce was great as it has been all along. But then we get into the bad 2 large pepper steak the meat was tough not the normal tasty pepper steak we were used too and was hard to chew, the peppers were just huge chunks think rustic cut soups and the gravy/sauce was just not beefy. The shrimp fried Rice was tasteless. sort of like someone dunked the rice in tea water to get some color, no onions or other veggies and the shrimp was overcooked and hard. this is not the normal Quality that we were used too from hk palace even after the ownership change It was just nasty and we had to toss it out.The wonton soup (we bought 2 large) was like the whole salt shaker was dumped into the broth for all the years we have been going here it was NEVER like that the broth was undrinkable and so was tossed out. The beef lowmain, the noodles were not cooked as they were normally cooked in the past and it was very light on the beef. As I said before this was for a special occasion which will not be repeated again and we were not happy at all. Even after the change of ownership the food was normal, but now it was bad enough to decide never to return and to find a new place to eat. Perhaps a different or new cook? Giving it five stars for our perfect experience. We asked the food to be spicy and they listened. Lo mein had a very light taste. The king pao chicken was delicious. Have been coming here forever. They have been open since 1986. It's a white table cloth (not a greasy take- out) type Chinese restaurant. The staff are warm and attentive. The food always comes out quickly . The food is good- the only thing I wish is that they would have seasonal specials or a wider menu that would veer a little further off the predictable, beaten path. When you hear "Support local businesses", this restaurant should come to mind. The food is delicious and the service is truly kind and efficient. I am surprised to see negative reviews about the food here. To be honest, I think it may have to do with what some are ordering. This restaurant has a lot of authentic dishes, which we ordered, as well as a mix of standard American-Chinese takeout. If you are looking for standardized takeout, perhaps this isn't the place. Hong Kong Palace's dishes were cooked authentic to Chinese standards and are not the greasy, salty drunk food some takeout is known for. As a Chinese person myself, not knocking those restaurants, but authentic Chinese serves a different purpose which should be measured against other authentic Chinese restaurants. By far the best Chinese food and service in the area (quite possibly New Jersey) Some of the best quality ingredients for a Chinese food resturante I've had. Service staff is always friendly and attentive. It's probably more pricy than you $5 special you can find in a lot of places but the prices are still very reasonable, portion sizes good and the quality really good. Having come here for years the food is very consistent. I've gotten the spare ribs and happy family (as well as the plate version) also this resturante might be the only one to have the thin noodles with duck sauce instead of the overly greasy, big fried noodles. My favorite Chinese restaurant. Been eating here since 1982 when he had his restaurant in Parsippany to his location in Hackettstown. Every trip up we always stop in for a meal and load up on extras to take home. Jeto, the owner, besides the great food, is a bonus. He is fun, friendly and entertaining! He comes out from the kitchen to greet guests and make sure everything is perfect. There are all the regular meals that you are used to seeing. If you know about the more traditional meals, you can ask to have it cooked that way. He will also adjust the meals for special diets.
