Terrible experience. I ordered wonton soup but was served a salty mix of wonton with stir-fried vegetables, stir-fried mushrooms, and pre-cooked braised dishes meant to be eaten with rice. The flavors were awful and inedible. When I asked to change the dish, the manager refused and said, "We are Chinese, so we know about wonton." Poor food, rude service. The food is good. The restaurant has been the same decor since the early 90s at least. The restaurant needs a deep clean from top to bottom.

The ambiance is classic and cozy. Staff is super nice. Service was pretty quick. After reading other reviews, we went safe and ordered the sesame chicken. The flavor was typical, but the portions were gluttonous. Our dishes came out and my jaw dropped, gluttonous. I'm 99% positive they took 8 full chicken thighs, battered them, smothered them in sauce, and sent them our way. It was pretty off-putting. I think if they just took a few more minutes to be thoughtful and cut up the chicken into more reasonable sizes they'd be better for it (economically, too). read more

This is truly some of the best Chinese food my family and I have ever had. We have just moved here after living in Manhattan for thirty years and we're blown away by the quality of this food. The staff are absolutely lovely and the restaurant is extremely clean. If you decide to dine in, you are in for a treat. The ambience feels like you've been transported into a Tarantino film. The food was absolutely horrible. The sweet and sour chicken was straight batter and was terrible. After we sat there for a while, we were missing half of our food. So we asked to just cancel some and they brought it out anyway. We still had to pay for everything even without receiving it. We mentioned to the waitress that we were missing half the food. She goes to get it and comes back 20 minutes later and says the kitchen RAN OUT of fried rice. The owner was completely rude and disrespectful and tell us to leave the restaurant after we paid. If I could give it zero stars I would. Our bill was almost $90 and we didn't receive half the food and barely touched the rest because it was so terrible. read more

These egg rolls are huge. Not frozen but look to be handmade. The chicken fried rice is enough for 2-3 days and delicious. The wonton soup is perfect. Sherry was nice enough to deliver and save me from eating Taco Bell. (Eat Taco Bell, I have stock in Pepsi) I managed to down one eggroll and a few bites of rice and I am stuffed. I'm new to town so I took a shot in the dark coming in. The woman grabbing her to-go order just before me said it's the only place her and her husband come for Chinese food in town. I am visiting from Houston Texas, the acknowledged restaurant capital of the world, more restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States. We were really used extremely high-quality food and excellent service. Imagine my surprise when I pull into Gillette and I go to the closest Chines restaurant And gets served the best Chinese meal I have ever eaten in my life. I eat Chinese food a lot, so tonight I ordered my basic basic go to which is general Tso's chicken. First of all they were not parsimonious with the quantity. Second of all it was so hot and fresh what a tasty treat. The eggrolls here are hand made an absolutely the best eggrolls I've ever eaten. The Chinese mustard is also exceptionally good in both texture and flavor. I prefer a Chinese mustard on my eggrolls to the sweet-and-sour sauce. Also the hot pepper oil, which they call" grandma sauce" was excellent on my rice. My waitress was a young lady named Kendra, she was very efficient and extremely attentive. We are from Hing Kong, passing through Gillette in a cross country drive. And today's our anniversary, so naturally Hong Kong restaurant, right? Anyway, the food was so much better than we had expected, the bean sprouts were fresh and crunchy, Tsingtao beer nice and cold, dumplings were fried just right, the Beef Ho Fun was excellent, can rival anyone in HK, not oily at all, just the right amount of beef, onion, scallion and bean sprouts. We also ordered walnut shrimp, despite the owner saying it's more for non-Chinese customers, and you know what? It's delicious. Anyway, the restaurant probably is only good for 3-4 stars, but I give it 5 because it's our anniversary and the restaurant fed us well:-) read more

First, let me express my condolences to the good people of Gillette, Wyoming. It saddens me to no end that a 'restaurant' of this caliber exists in your wonderful little city. Enroute to Idaho on our Great Northern Idaho Road Trip and Family Bonding Experience, we landed in Gillette for the night, and the wife was craving some chinese food because it had been at least 24 hours since she'd last had any. After exploring the whopping three choices, Hong Kong Restaurant was chosen because they were the only one that had Chow Mein on the menu. We ordered the Chicken Chop Suey (to get rice and not the noodles), Green Pepper Beef, Beef Lo Mein, Egg rolls and Fried Dumplings. I'd start with the worst first, but they all sucked to such an appalling degree that I have a hard time deciding which one to start with. SO let's go in the above order. Chicken Chop Suey... the chicken was rubbery as hell and bland. The vegetables had not one iota of crispness to them, and the entire dish looked like a sad, bland attempt that horribly misfired. Green Pepper Beef.... a completely unappetizing hodgepodge of tasteless mess. There were quite a few ingredients in the dish, and I thought surely at least ONE of them would shine through, thereby lending a shred of flavor to this godawful concoction.... but I was to be further disappointed. Beef Lo Mein.... I'm always on the lookout for a good BLM. I've never had one as good as what I used to get at Loi's Golden Dragon in Tulsa, and that has become the standard by which I measure all others. This hot mess didn't even get asked to the dance, much less get on the floor. It was completely (wait for it.......) bland and tasteless. There was not a shred of any savory flavor whatsoever. Egg Rolls...... let's face it... how hard is it to totally screw up an egg roll? I can't imagine how you do it... but the cook found the secret. First, they were completely too large, by more than half of what makes a 'normal' egg roll. That might have been a good thing, except half again as much crap is just more crap. They were soggy, and grease soaked. They almost looked like Donkey Kong sized Spring Rolls, but they turned out to just be oversized logs of mushy crap. And to top it ALL off.... they put shrimp in an Egg Roll, without any notice whatsoever. Aside from the fact that my wife completely detests shrimp, some people have bonafide shellfish allergies, and that could have gone very badly, very quickly. Fried Dumplings..... I love a good fried dumpling. A LOT. I've been known to eat 10 or 12 for lunch. These were overstuffed lumps of bland tasteless mystery meat. Not even the remotest flavor or hint of what a good fried dumpling should be. It was a carton full of bland, doughy, tasteless crap balls. Even the Hot Mustard had no flavor. And it was so watery you couldn't dip the egg roll into it, but you couldn't really dip the egg rolls anyway, because they fell apart because they were greasy and overstuffed. The lady who took my order was very friendly and polite, and given that it was takeout, I really can't comment more on the service. I would have taken photos, but we had to set things up on an ironing board in the hotel room to dish it all out, and there was nothing worth taking a photo of. The best thing about my meal, honestly, was the Lipton Diet Green Tea that I got out of my ice chest. This place should issue a public apology to the citizens of Gillette and every traveler that has had the misfortune to take a chance here. In fact, they should probably tear the place down, salt the earth, and offer a prayer to the spirits of good Chinese food, who are no doubt, greatly offended. read more

My Husband and I stopped here for lunch on 9/30/2020. The waitress was very, very good, although I failed to get her name. She answered all my questions about the menu. We both ordered lunch specials off the menu. They came with egg drop soup, which was delicious. When our meals arrived, I immediately asked for 2 take-out boxes! The portions are HUGE! The food was excellent. We both took half home. After eating some for dinner, I still have left-overs. We will definitely be back in our next visit to Gillette! read more

I regret I did not follow the waiter's advice to reduce my order :P Well the flavor was apparently adjusted according to American's taste...Good for your guys... Can only say "OK" for me... A packed parking lot at a Chinese restaurant in cowboy country, what? If cowboys are going there it must be good. After driving 12 hours in route to Keystone, SD, we were tired, hungry and did not want fast food again. Chinese food sounded so yummy. We took a chance, walked in grabbed a to go menu went back to the car made our decisions and by the time we walked back in to place our order about 5-6 more cars had pulled in. By the time we got our food the place was packed. Upon arrival to the room and opening our boxes, WOW!!! tons of food I'd swear there was more then one whole chicken in there. I'm a fan of the Hong Kong restaurant, just not actually going there. If I want chinese, I default to here and ordering for takeout. I just seem to have not so pleasant experiences when I actually try to sit down and eat here. There are either too few staff for the amount of guests they have, or for some reason I get sat where they completely forget about me. The portions are huge, and the food always seems fresh. The sesame chicken is one of my favorites, huge chunks of chicken, too. Nothing hidden in breading. My family and I are also fans of the hot and sour soup - usually can't just have one bowl. Last time we ordered we tried to chinese dumplings...pretty good potstickers if you ask me! Generally seems to cost more than you expect, but, I suppose it's all worth it. read more
