Price gouging doesn't set well with me..first and only time I'll ever eat there. Being charge full adult n child buffet price for 2 bowls of rice (containing less than 1 cup of rice between both bowls) $25 is seriou price gouging. The 2 kid buffets I paid for were less than the 2 bowls of rice I got. Nope $25 for less than 1 cup of rice is pure greed and price gouging. Would not go here unless u wanna get ripped off. The people are nice but they have a very tiny selection far from a super buffet and they rip you off so don't go here you get far more for your money going somewhere else. My only issue and reason for 4 stars was on our last visit, there were children riding a scooter INSIDE the restaurant. Seriously the best restaurant in Portales - and I'm not just saying that because I miss Chinese food (okay, maybe just a tiny bit). But honestly, the food that is served here is pretty high quality and definitely tops the Chinese buffets back in LA both pricewise and tastewise. Because there aren't any stores that sell Asian produce, I went a few weeks without legit Chinese food before finding Hong Kong Super Buffet. The lunch buffet is only about $7 and the dinner buffet cost is a dollar or two more - and this includes soda! You're also able to get to-go where you can stuff a to-go box filled with as much food as you want. While the customers primarily eat from the AYCE buffet, they do have a menu where you can order more traditional Chinese dishes (fried rice, noodles, etc.) but very rarely did I see customers do that. The buffet includes dishes such as salmon, fried chicken with peanut butter, sushi, kimchi, broccoli and beef, shrimp, meatballs, fried chicken, squid, picked vegetables - an assortment of items from Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and American cuisines. Something for everybody pretty much. They also have Blue Bunny self-scoop ice cream (the legitimate ice cream instead of the soft serve that Souplantation and all the other buffets have nowadays). Along with cookies, pudding, jello, fried donuts ... you're going to leave feeling happy and full. My favorite items - squid, imitation crab meat and vegetables, garlic bread, mushrooms (so good!), and the honey chicken. So much better than Panda Express - the sauce and the coating on the chicken are cooked perfectly, and when you bite into the chicken, you still get enough white meat to know that you're eating real chicken. The hot and sour soup was also a favorite of mine. The owners and workers here are all super friendly and really, really nice. Since Portales isn't that big of a city, everybody really does recognize you after one or two visits. When they were out of honey chicken, the owner automatically went to the kitchen to get some more! Lots of tables available and this place is definitely always busy with customers coming and going. tl;dr - Who knew that the best Chinese AYCE buffet is located in Portales? Better than the ones in LA for sure! Highly recommend giving it a try if you're craving Chinese food or you don't know what to eat. Prices are affordable, service is super friendly, and assortment of food is pretty widespread. read more

pros: sesame balls taste delicious, they have odd but good dishes. there's a salad bar and sushi bar. their lo mein has a lot of flavor. food was warm and the place was well ventilated. the price is cheap too! cons: even tho their lo mein was flavorful it was also very greasy. the sushi didn't taste good. the dessert cakes were dry. nothing stood out. hubby was upset there are no ice cream cones (the one in clovis does) my brother says food was only alright (we came with empy stomachs) TIP: they're closed on tuesdays read more

If I could give it less I would, The food was cold, barely any, and didn't even taste like Chinese food for two of us it was $25 and definitely not worth the price. 4 Stars, for a Chinese Buffet? Crazy I know, however, I give it 4 stars in relation to every other Chinese buffet I have tried. Day visited - Thursday. Time- 11:30 Location - Right on the main drag - can't miss it. Atmosphere - Chinese Buffet - seen one, seen em' all. Staff - VERY FRIENDLY, Family, sweet people. Sanitation - Appeared to be VERY good in dining room. Booths were clean, everything organized, bright, sunny, carpet was OK - who puts carpet in a buffet? One of the primary areas of sanitation weakness in most Chinese buffets is near the ice cream machine. Hong Kong's dessert area was IMMACULATE. I felt very secure eating there Soup: Sweet and Sour - INSANE! Big chunks of tofu, mushrooms, hot and tasty - some of the best I have had. I did not try any of the fried dishes (sticking to non-fried meats and veggies) but I saw plenty of folks with FANTASTIC looking fried goodies on their plates. Everything on the buffet was full, hot and frees (as you would expect at 11:30 a.m. However, I could tell that they were very conscientious about their food and presentation - each buffet pan was presented as a large version of a plated dish, not all smashed up together. Broccoli Beef - Delicious - Broccoli was NOT over cooked and was NOT drowning in sauce. Green Beans: Hot, crisp, seasoned well but not heavy. Pork dish was tasty - forgot the name. Sushi selection was as expected for a rural town in New Mexico - simple, cucumber based rolls with no true fish to speak of (think I saw a shrimp in one) - funny sign over the wasabi "Warning: This is NOT guacamole!" I would definitely eat here again and suggest that you give it a try - if it was anything like my experience you will not be disappointed. read more

I give the Hong Kong Super Buffet 4 stars for the food quality but 2 stars for the eating environment, so I balanced it out with 3 stars. There was good variety and overall the food was very fresh and tasty. But as we entered into the restaurant, there was so much condensation water was literally running streaks down the walls! They need to fix their ventilation system or something...I felt like I was eating delicious Chinese food in a sauna. I'll definitely go back a second time just to see if the eating environment has improved or not. read more

Don't let the run down exterior scare you away. It is much cleaner and cozier inside. It didn't quite satisfy my palate. Relative to other places in the area, this might be the most decent tasting Chinese you will find. The buffet is small compared to the Super Buffets I am used to but Hong Kong covers a lot of the basics like fried rice, lo mein, spare ribs, beef with broccoli, and kung pao chicken. It's small but cozy. The staff was friendly and inviting. They pay attention to their work and I have to appreciate their ethic. They do very well and it shows through the food and atmosphere. I've always been a fan and have gone to this place many times over the course of 10 years. Only thing that makes this place not super high on the list is the lack of a grill/Mongolian grill. Pros: Plenty of choice, never cold or old and a good mix of Chinese buffet style as well as casual Americanized choices such as fried chicken. The price is absolutely reasonable, but also a standard among buffets. Customer service is always decent. Whether it is a local waiter or someone new who seems to work with the family. Sadly, the original family who owned this place solid it and moved to Farwell TX to open another buffet. We had become well acquainted with the original family and would even exchange gifts like during baby showers! Lots of fun and very friendly. Cons: The menu doesn't change often and at times can become very crowded. Over all, the lowest selling point may be the fact that this is a 3 row buffet. Don't let the sign outside fool you, this buffet is tantalizing to the senses. Any Chinese food you can imagine, they probably make it. They also have sushi, soups, and desserts. This is a Chinese buffet restaurant. You can order from a menu if you would like though. The price is not bad. You can eat all you want. They have many dishes from Mongolian Beef to General Tso's Chicken. They also have hot and sour soup and egg drop soup. Fruit and desserts are also available. The food isn't terribly spicy. The seating is good. It's a fairly large place. They don't have any fish but they do have a large Buddha statue. The service is good. The employees are very friendly.
