This 5 stars review solely for the Vietnamese Chè Xôi Nước! It's one of my favorite comfort desserts. It's also sentimental to me since they make it very close to the way my Bà Ngoại made for us. She always made it with extra mung bean and coconut mild for me. It's super cheap $3 per container with 3 big balls and many little ones. I wish they give more coconut milk with it. This Asian supermarket used to be my favorite store and I've been coming here since I was a kid. There's been a change that made me not want to come back here and shop for groceries ever again and that would be the mistreatment from customer service. Absolutely trashiest customer service to have ever experienced here ESPECIALLY from the manager who has a garbage attitude. Unhelpful and rude towards a customer for no reason goes way beyond unprofessional and need retraining on how to better up a positive attitude towards your customers. What could've been better was that if you don't like dealing with customers, then don't work in customer service. Fubonn Supermarket is within the Fubonn shopping center off 82nd Ave. It's a very large grocery with plenty of good stuff. If you've never been to an Asian grocery before, know that it's not your typical Safeway/Fred Meyer experience. The selection of products are oriented towards Asian cuisines and might be unfamiliar to you. Be adventurous but cautious. I definitely have my go-to purchases at an Asian grocery store (usually hot food from the deli, snacks, and sauces) but it's nice to browse for potential new favorites. The store has potentially long checkout lines with unfriendly cashiers. It's not the end of the world, just give yourself time and don't expect American standards of unreasonable friendliness. read more

Among the very best Asian stores in the Portland metropolitan area* (Uwajimaya and H Mart are the true undisputed champions)! This is where you go to get staple ingredients for all your favorite Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese and other Southeast Asian dishes (if you can't be arsed to drive out to Beaverton, that is). There are other supermarkets that have slightly more culturally-focused items for sale (Hong Phat, SF Supermarket and the aforementioned Uwaji's and H-Mart all jump to mind), but Fubonn covers the entire Asian oeuvre comprehensively enough to help you find what you're looking for...well, almost. Snipping a bit from my Uwajimaya review, there are certain deficiencies that just about all other Asian supermarkets fall prey to (including Fubonn), the most obvious being the meat department. The quality just isn't the same, and it's apparent from even a casual glance. There are cuts of meat that are simply missing (believe me, I have looked). One pertinent example: thinly sliced beef, ready for a shabu-shabu, sukiyaki or gyu donburi, come in small (single portion) to family-sized packs, and although expensive, their quality is unparalleled, and (sadly) found only at Uwajimaya. And that's not mentioning cuts of wagyu, kobe or mishima beef, which you'll never find here. The quantity of offal, organs, limbs and tripe are overbalanced compared to other cuts. The seafood tanks look...questionable. You get the idea. Conversely, the produce section here is top notch, inexpensive, expansive, and plentiful, some of it exotic. In fact, the same could be said about the rest of the store. Cookware and crockery galore, at awesome prices, fill out an entire wall. The wine and sake section is respectable enough, and carries some quality beverages, some of which are hard to track down around here. My only other gripes about Fubonn are rather minor: sometimes the store feels a little grimy or untidy (floors, glass cases, etc), and the turnstile at the front of the store is pants-on-head stupid. No cart return. The entire in-and-out traffic flow, especially with a loaded cart, is an exercise in frustration. Try it once and you'll know what I'm talking about. Fubonn may be the largest, best stocked Asian grocery store in the region, caveats above included. Other than the stated exceptions, if you can't find it here, you won't find it in Oregon at all, and that's an accomplishment of which one can be proud. read more

I'm giving a three because: 1. Their fruits are not always the best. The whole box of Persimmons were bad & discolored! 2. They don't carry a large variety of breads, pastries, or Asian sweets. I mean C'mon! I can name more than 3 Asian bakeries, that do have their own shops. I didn't see any of those sold there, maybe they're sold out? 3. The older staff aren't friendly, not to me, and they're never around when you need someone! They do have a variety of fish, frozen foods even BLACK CHICKEN (what's that?) & Ilocano Frozen Langonisa! BEWARE!! Check your receipt after you pay! A cashier named Tam tried to SCAM me by adding a $129.99 charge for an item I DID NOT PURCHASE! Pic is attached. Thankfully I caught this charge on the way out, but Tam tried to tell me, "it's probably an incense you bought" when I only had food items in my cart. Also the $129.99 item on the receipt says 16 inch White Buddha, which I'm assuming is a statue, so the incense comment doesn't make sense at all. I truly believe they tried to scam me especially because of how weird the cashier acted when I went back to correct his mistake. Never coming back. This Asian market is so convenient for me (rather than driving to 99 Ranch) but the quality of the produce is just so-so, and the meat section is kind of suspect. But really what turned me off in recent trips are the customer service. I was looking in the meat section when a worker just came next to me and pushed my cart aside so he could stack the shelves. He didn't care that I was in the middle of selecting something. And the cashier got upset with me when my card didn't swipe correctly. Also, the parking situation can be crazy with the drivers there who seem to be inconsiderate of others. All in all, I'd rather go to Hmart or the drive to 99 Ranch. I really enjoyed my visit here. This grocery store is HUGE. They have tons of vegan options and their prices are better than any old plain grocery store. I've been meaning to review Fubonn since we shopped here las Thursday. Firstly, this is a very spacious supermarket. So many Asian stuff to choose from, I was in awe. It was also clean. The prices are pretty good. I found just about everything I needed for my Asian fix. Why not 5 star you say? Well, I should have listened to another reviewer who mentioned something about expiration dates on items. I grabbed a tub of red curry paste which I found out after a 3hr drive home was expired. Disappointed but lesson learned. It is a good place to shop but I'll also check out other Asian markets the next time we're in town. read more

I've been an occasional customer here for years. I encountered a staff member who had poor customer service skills. I stood alone at the deli counter while the worker ignored me. I walked up and down the counter to see if there was anything else I might want and catch her eye. I caught it. She turned away. When I wouldn't leave (should have) she finally came over and grudgingly took my order. I paid. She started making my bahn mi. Two other women approached. A large Asian market serving the general Southeast Asian population in the Portland area. They have a small meat deli with rost duck, roast pork, and other dishes. A very large selection of fresh Asian type vegetables - fresh ginger, leafy greens, fruits, etc, The fresh fish section has a large variety of fish - Salmon to Tilapia and many unknown fish, shellfish, etc. The grocery sections are broken into sections by country and types of foods. They even carry a large group of pots and pans, etc. This is a one stop shopping experience. I have been to bigger Asian grocery stores in the past, but this places is a good stop for Portlanders on this side of town. Beaverton also has some good grocery stores. I found this place via Yelp and I am glad I did. How did I survive before Yelp and the Internet? I am making Tom Kha Gai (Chicken Coconut Soup) for the family this week and everything I need is at this store. They have produce that you just won't find in the local supermarket. Thai chilis, galanga, Kaffir lime leaves, and lemongrass. Plus fish sauce of course. Just what I need to make my soup. This is a large and fully stocked Asian market full of cool stuff. The supermarket is cool, got a decent selection of oriental goods and food. Produce is diverse compared to the lack of selection in typical US supermarkets. Has live fish and stuff too, which is good. The only problem is safety around the area - several robberies have happened near by and that is not cool. My cousin and I came here after a horrible experience at the Jade District Night Market in the parking lot: We were looking for some good food. Fubonn is located at SE 82nd Ave and Woodward in SE Portland. If you don't have a car like us, take the 9 Bus to Powell & SE 82nd, and walk 0.3 miles North. It will take you 30 min from DTP. The public transportation system in PDX is inexpensive and safe. We determined that not unlike LA where many Azns left DTLA (Chinatown) and moved eastward, the same thing seems to have happened in SE Portland. On the way, we noticed Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese businesses and restaurants. The same goes for the plaza and the market. This market was massive. There were long rows and rows of food from nearly every Azn culture. They even had Hawaiian stuff! We saw fresh jackfruit, dragonfruit, durian, balut, and a host of other items I don't normally see in the Azn markets in LA & OC. They also have a restaurant section w/ huge pots. Although the deli was closed already, we were in awe of all that we saw. If Iived in the area, Fubonn would definitely be my "go to" place. They have fresh produce, fresh meat & seafood, noodles, and condiments like fish sauce from every corner of the globe. read more

Great selection of Chinese and Vietnamese goods in town. They have lots to offer. During the lunar new year, the front of the stores is filled with those candies and trays for you to pickup. I love the melon and coconut trays. Most of the vegetables are wrapped in plastic baggies, so you have to check them for wilted leaves / built up condensation. Their deli section has a number of interesting items, I particularly like their cups of that Vietnamese dessert with the beans and things (sorry, not sure what it's called). One thing I noticed was that most times when we go there, they are out of a particular brand of fish balls that my family likes. Disappointing, but I guess it's really popular. *shrug* read more

Fubon is one of the Asian market choice that I love to shop, they have a variety selections and their MEAT are probably the best. From beef, pork, fishes to seafoods, everything is freshly pack and you can pick your own. I love the part that you can pick your own section and their usually have their meat on sale for a good price. Sometimes they have fresh vegetables, but in my opinion it's not fresh to compare with others local asian market. I love their bitter melons, the best among the asian market. As soon as I walked into Fubonn I felt like I was at home! Just getting close to the door you start to smell that distinct smell of an asian grocery store. You walk in and you feel colder than the outside but you know that it's all good for the produce. The produce section is alright, it's smaller than anticipated and some of the produce isn't the best looking all the time, BUT for the most part it's great. And you certainly are able to find the asian vegetables and fruits that you can't find at Freddy's or Safeway. The deli section to me is slightly lacking, perhaps it's because I never go on the weekend when it could be busier and have a larger selection but the food that I've bought there is still good. Other things that you will only be able to find here and other asian grocery stores are all the snacks, meats, fish, and household items. It has a good selection of your basic items but also goes further into your delicate meats/fish and even durian flavored snacks - yum! Overall, great pricing and it will have all the asian necessities you are looking for - and for some of us feel like home. read more

Too many reviews about people getting sick from the meat sold here. Here is my observation: the workers in the meat/seafood department wear the same gloves when touching raw meat, and then touch the raw shrimp, and then touch the hose to clean the floor and also handle the garbage bin. Please pay close attention to the gloves that they wear and request that they change gloves or use a red bag to handle your wlraw meat purchases. This cross contamination is dangerous. But I don't know if managment or the owner cares to make a change. This is why I can't wait for Emmert Saigon Mall to open on 82nd and Foster, Hooray!!!! read more

Asian market place. This store is great! I used to come here with my roomate as she is from China. I now come here on my own because I have become very fond of some of their options. The produce here is good quality and fresh. The prices are always cheap and they have some items you don't normally see at chain grocers like Safeway. I usually buy steam buns and dumplings by the bag here. They have so many options and brands I usually just pick and choose a variety to try. The kids love the dried seaweed so we always grab some for their school lunches. They have a good selection of teas and Asian candies as well. If you haven't been, check this place out. This is a convenient one stop shop for Asian groceries since it's huge and has a large variety of items. The aisles are easy to navigate to find what I need. The inside of the store is pretty clean for an Asian grocery store. The downside is that generally the pricing is more expensive than the smaller mon & pop grocery stores.
