I had a doctor at the ER that with all the tests done and the same info I shared, he did not give me the right antibiotic. I had a serious infection and high fever for a week and he doubled the antibiotics I had before I went to the ER... yes, and was charged 1k after insurance. Dr. Ortiz Saved another trip to the emergency room or something worse. I would take a good doctor even if it meant having to deal with some issues with the staff, it might just be uncomfortable to be in that position if you are in need of efficient staff. If you are, the manager resolved my issues when they were escalated, she was kind and made sure everything was okay.

The staff was very friendly and seemed to make everyone feel welcome. The doctor was equally friendly and took the time to talk with me and come up with a solution to my problem. He didn't throw a bunch of unnecessary medications at me, giving me just the one prescription he felt I needed. This was a welcome change from doctors I've been to years ago who'd prescribe all sorts of stuff that I didn't need. Anyhow, good staff and a good doctor, well worth the drive from NE San Antonio. The only thing that would probably lead me to give it a 4.5 was the fact that he was about 30min late for the visit. But considering they got me a same day appointment, I don't suppose I can complain much.

I was informed by the manager of the office that my time was limited to 30 minutes, although I was allowed an hour this time, but I would have to make another appointment... more of my time and $$$. Since this is a primary physician, apparently any treatments are minimal, and you can expect mostly referrals to other physicians or services. I was told these appointments were not for my type of situation, whatever that was. Also, apparently any narcotic prescriptions, such as those for anxiety are non-existent, or at least in my case. I will note that at all times everyone was at least reasonably courteous, although the mood changed considerably when i questioned the unwritten rule.

She took time to listen to my concerns and made a little extra time available for her staff to draw my blood, given I was so nervous about it. (This will also be pushed back if the opening provider is late) I know what you guys are doing, your overbooking. So you can get the most amount of patients seen in a day to turn the most amount of revenue (claims) for the owners at the patients times expense. Its terrible, and people in the area put up with it cause they don't know any better. I've been in healthcare for a long time and seen all sides. This is wrong. The offices are relatively new, clean, and attractively furnished. The hallways have old pictures of the Quarry back before it was a shopping mall. The docs I've met here have all been proficient and professional. Parking is easy, and there's even a strategically placed Salata right next door so you can go eat healthy after your checkup. Some of the offices overlook the Quarry golf course, which is scenic. There's also an emergency room right next door if things go south in a hurry at your medical exam. I just wish they'd get some magazines for the waiting room. What kind of doctor's office doesn't have anything to read in the waiting rooms? Bring your own if you want something to read.

Nonetheless, she is switching medical practices now because she ALWAYS has to wait a minimum of an hour to see her. Recently, she made a virtual appointment, and they never contacted her at all. She waited two hours, then gave up. They never even called her with an explanation. Another problem is long wait times on the phone. Also, when she wants to be seen for an acute illness, she has to wait a couple of days. The office has a serious scheduling problem that they seem to have no interest in correcting.
