I absolutely hated this dental office. The staff is very rude and unfriendly. The office is overcrowded. The place is old and dirty. The space is jam packed, crowded. There is no where to sit down except a tiny, plastic wobbly "tooth" stool. You are all squished and uncomfortable. They really just crammed as many dental chairs as they could into a small space. They directed us to go into a room and there was another family in it. I was so confused, but there was another tiny space with another chair. The whole experience was horrible. Honestly. The staff was so rude. The dentists weren't much better. I would NOT recommend this office at all. I did not like Dr. Sueda's approach of talking to the children. But also, he physically grabbed my child by the face AFTER the exam, when we were leaving and had him "nod" his head using HIS (Dr. Sueda hands. Horrible experience. Would not recommend. read more

Later this afternoon my wife took my 1 year son to Honolulu Keiki Dental to see Dr. Dean T. Sueda. My son had an appointment to drill some cavities that he had on his two front teeth. During the procedure I received a call from my wife who was in the room with my son. She was extremely disterbed & angry with Dr. Sueda by the way he was treating my son (Mind you that while i am talking to my wife i can hear my son screaming & crying in the background). My wife attempted to ask Dr. Sueda if my son was in pain & he replied very rudely that he's trying to focus. My wife told me that she would call me back. After about 8 to 10 minutes my wife called me crying on the phone stating that Dr. Sueda was very rude to her and even yelled at her. He was very aggressive with the way he treated my son, my wife stated that he squeezed my son's face very hard and was very inconsiderate towards him. My wife was very disturbed and hurt by the way my son was treated. A couple weeks before this happened my son was at the same doctor & came home with a bruise on his face because the assistant was squeezing my son's face so hard. As a parent I believe something needs to be done about this doctor and i will continue to pursue other alternatives including lawsuits and/or filing a police report. This type of treatment is unacceptable and I don't know if you have any kids but imagine this. You are at work and your wife calls you crying because of the way your dentist handled your precious child who is only 1 years old. I can't begin to tell you how angry & hurt I am that this doctor would abuse my defenseless child without regard to his screams (My wife was there and tried to ask him if he could feel pain & he replied loudly "IM TRYING TO FOCUSE" . I am hurt by the way I was not there to protect him, I am hurt by the way I had to listen to his screams. I attempted to call the doctor's office but nobody would answer. We should feel a sense of trust with the people we seek care from, parents should never leave a doctor's office crying because of the way their child was mistreated. All i can say to you... you sick.. inconsiderate... monster of a doctor... you are very lucky i wasn't in the room when you did what you did to my son. read more

If you have a child who does ok and "behaves well" with dentists, then you'll probably be treated well enough here. However, if your child is at all sensitive and anxious, I would urge you to look elsewhere for dental care. I was dismayed by the treatment my child received from Dr. Juliana Hsu. Yes, he is THAT kid screaming at the dentist's office. I know nobody wants to deal with a screaming child. I sympathize with the doctors, staff, and patients that work with him, and try to do everything I can to prepare him for a dental visit. I myself have never had dental anxiety so I don't talk negatively about the dentist, nor do I try to hype it up to him. We had been making steady progress as he got older, but I believe that has been undone by resuming services at Honolulu Keiki Dental after moving back to the islands. I have no recollection of Dr. Hsu introducing herself to us to establish basic rapport. Then, at the first sign of my son expressing discomfort, Dr. Hsu immediately became irritated, and started saying "Stop crying" "It doesn't hurt!" "I'm not even doing anything, you're just scared!" obviously exasperated. What did she expect a frightened 6-year-old to do? Stop crying on command because an angry stranger tells him to? Naturally it had the opposite effect, and he became even MORE upset and the rest of the visit devolved into flailing and screaming. He had not been numbed with lidocaine or any similar drug, as they had been relying on nitrous oxide as an analgesic/anesthetic. When he started crying, his nose got stuffy and was unable to breathe in the nitrous as his teeth were drilled. I was extremely upset at the situation but focused on calming him the best I could so we could get out ASAP, and I didn't confront the doctor because I was afraid of her retaliating and hurting/upsetting him further. I understand that being a dentist must be extremely stressful. I'm sure kids are screaming at them day in and day out. But I did not expect a PROFESSIONAL who is trained to work WITH CHILDREN in this exact scenario to be so tense, callous, and forceful. How can you expect a young child to emotionally regulate himself when you yourself are barely containing your own rage? Children pick up on tone and actions. How can children form a positive association with the dentist this way? "Tough love" and "get over it" types of attitudes have been widely recognized as ineffective and even harmful. Dr. Hsu is temporarily covering for another doctor on leave, but I also have heard the same verbiage and harsh tone ("stop crying") from Dr. Stacie Sueda. On a hunch, I checked reviews and lo and behold, upset children have been strapped to the dental chairs and treated with excessive force by Dr. Dean Sueda, and parents ridiculed and demeaned when they confront the doctors. This appears to be the standard of care given to "difficult" aka sensitive and anxious patients at this practice. I must thank the assistants and hygienists who were so kind whenever we visited. They always tried their best even when my son was upset and giving them a hard time. And contrary to many reviews, I've always had a pleasant experience with the front desk staff. I'm just upset that I'm back to square one with building trust with my son again regarding dentists. read more

Called to make an appointment. They advertise that they have afternoon / after-school and Saturday appointments. But the scheduler told me that they do not allow children with ohana quest insurance to use those slots. She can only be seen Monday through Friday in the mornings. My daughter has that insurance because she's disabled. It doesn't seem right that she'll have to miss school and I'll have to miss work to see the dentist, but other kids can be seen without scheduling restriction. I ended up canceling. I hope they'll rethink that policy in the future. read more

His work is good but it can be painful when applying anesthetic. They didn't wiggle my cheek like other dentists did when applying anesthetic so I felt every puncture. Also his nurses applied the anesthetic. I remember one time she kept poking me and asked if it hurt. I said yes so she poked me even more! And the nurses flossed pretty hard too. I was always traumatized coming here cause I'd see kids screaming their head off and crying. Take your kids here to get their teeth well taken care of but watch them scream. This place has haunted me ever since I was a kid. But I can't knock his work. Maybe my visits were painful because of the nurses, not the doc himself. read more

Dr. Sueda was my Pediatric dentist when I was a kid. It's amazing how his staff remembers me. The old school staff is amazing, too early to say anything about the newbies (however there was an incident that happened with my billing) LoL Anyway, I was surprised because I haven't seen them since I was 18?! Doctor is so awesome and has a way with the all the kids. They love him! I'm so happy and grateful that he is able to treat my son. Doctor is awesome with kids and he is so thorough in explaining procedures that has been done in that appointment and further appointments. All three kids are in and out in just under an hour. The staff are incredible about scheduling appointments and calling ahead of time to reschedule; also very flexible if I need to reschedule. But the heart of the operation is Dr. Dean Sueda. He has been like a trusted Uncle to my children giving them practical and profound life advice without being too serious. As a single mother, I more than appreciate all the outside help I can get because it seems to make an impact when they hear it from other people vs. Mom. I started going here since my brother and I was in elementary all the way through high school. We both got our braces here and now both of our kids go here. Now my daughter just got her braces too. The office staff especially Lina is so accommodating and always helpful! Just lost a new patient. Called their office for inquiries about how their office works and if they by any chance takes walk-ins? Simple questions right? Apparently not to the receptionist. She needs to have better bedside manners. When she answers the phone, not only there wasn't any formal introduction, but she managed to mess up their company name? And beside not knowing how to properly disengage herself from me, she just said "WHAT". We later found that he uses intimidation, threats and force to get these helpless children to cooperate. Yes, condescending too! We have only started going because they are still young but from our experience with him, he explains things that he has done after you are done with the appointment. I would have given 5 stars but man is the receptionist there BAD!!! So boo to the receptionist. The 2 stars are for the crappy "bad" receptionists that answer the phones and take the appointments! THIS IS THE MOST HORRIBLE UNPROFESSIONAL DENTAL OFFICE EVER! My two year old son's first visit with Sueda. And we're never coming back here EVER AGAIN. Dr. Sueada is so unprofessional along with his RUDE staff. The atmosphere in there is TERRIBLE. My son had an appointment today with Dr. Sueda and he was TERRIBLE. He didn't even reassure me that my baby was ok and won't feel anything during the procedure. As any worried mom would ask if their baby had enough local anesthetic not too feel any pain. He numbed my sons mouth with the needle and instantly went into shaving, didn't wait at least 10-15 minutes or even double check to make sure he won't feel any pain. My son was screaming, not once did he stop or try to soothe my son like any normal doctor would. Not even a 'it will be ok'. He didn't even talk me through anything. I asked him if he could feel the pain and Dr. Sueda replied "oh yea he can feel it!" And he went on saying "I'M TRYING TO FOCUS" like he was yelling at me, so loudly his assistance came in to see what was the uproar. I held my composure as much as possible. After the procedure, he grabbed the needle that he numbed my son with and said "THIS IS WHAT WE NUMBED HIM WITH". He should get his license taken away for being so careless and aggressive with his patients ESPECIALLY 2 year old toddlers.. My husband tried calling his office because he was so furious at what happened today at Honolulu Keillor Dental but no one answered! This is the worse place and experience ever. I reported him to the health department. This doctor is unprofessional, careless and shouldn't even be licensed. I will make sure we take legal action and that this doctor is examined fully for the kind of shit show he is running. Piece of shit doctor. read more

Dr. Sueda is great doctor, very caring and easy to talk to. I've been going to him since I was, 3? He is very cool, always talking story with you and what you're doing. What college you're planning to go to and he gives me advice on what to do to get into grad school (and of course tells me that I need to stop eating sweets, because of my cavities lol). After every appointment, he calls in your parents and he goes over what happened, what they need to do, etc. He is great!!! The dental hygienists and assistants are awesome, they are all nice and caring. I want to give 5 stars so bad, but I just can't - due to the fact that one of his receptionist are extremely rude. Her name is Yvonne, and I have read other reviews online mentioning how she was rude also. She gives attitude over the phone and you can clearly hear her grumbling and "sigh"-ing over the phone whenever you ask her a question. I had to reschedule an appointment and she yelled giving the options, I said if she had another date, and she said, "Ugh, hold on!". WOW - W O W !!! I was super angry, so I just HAD to ask for her name. There's another receptionist, the tiny filipino lady - she's always nice, I like her. The atmosphere here has changed dramatically when my favorite receptionist, the one every one dislikes is gone, G O N E! Hallelujah!!!! Yvonne was the worst ever!!!!! I missed an appointment because a water main broke on my street and flooded my house (it was even on the news) she gave me such a hard time reading me the riot act. I had to ask to speak with Dr. Sueda, he of course was all class. I was so upset with this horrible, miserable person, while my daughter was undergoing invisalign treatments I stopped taking her for almost a year! The only reason I went back there was because i didn't want to waste my cafeteria plan money ($2500). Good Riddance! My kids have been coming here since they were 4 and 1 years old. My kids have been seeing Dr. Sueda since they were about 3 and 4 they are now 15 and 14. They were seeing another dentist before and they would cry all the time, when we switched to Honolulu Keiki Dental I asked them if they wanted to go back to the other dentist they said "no" and they rarely cried. Dr. Sueda is great with the kids and gives them valuable life lessons. His practice has expanded to include his children which is great. My kids haven't had a bad experience here and thats important for them to not have a fear of going to the dentist. read more

This is one of the best pediatric dentist. Dr. Dean Sueda has local style and is so great withy three boys. His daughter Stacie has now joined his team and compliments him so well. I would say she is even better with the kids. She tries to ease the kids using music they may like since the dentist can be a frightening experience as opposed to automatically strapping them. My kids always hate going to the dentist but once it's done they come out with smiles. The dentists always remind the kids to floss everyday and stay away from sweets after each visit. The office staff is always so welcoming too. Located at the building right at Ala Moana Center so lots of free parking. Every now and then you may have to wait a little longer but you know they are doing a great job. There's a TV and a machine where the kids can take pictures and stamp different images with it to keep the kids busy. Love this place read more

My entire childhood was committed to this pediatric dentist. Lets just say I have had countless cavities filled along with braces for two years. He is great with his patients, and the hygienists are wonderful! I clearly remember him taking the time to walk every patient out to their parents and explain what happend. I am currently managing a dental office and know the ins and outs of what it takes to run one. This office is beautifully managed and the staff are caring and compassionate.
