Calling ToothBuds to confirm if they were in network and set up appointments was very quick and easy. This week we had the pleasure of going to our first appointment. The location was easy to find and there are 3 designated parking spots to park. There's stairs and an elevator to take you to the ToothBuds office. The lobby area and office as a whole is extremely kid friendly. There's games to play with for a wide age range in the lobby. There were TVs playing kid movies while dental cleanings were taking place. The walls had different recognizable characters that my daughter immediately identified and made her feel comfortable. The best part of this experience was the attention to making sure my oldest understood what was going on and felt comfortable with what was being done. Linda is the dental hygienist who assisted us and she explained every single thing and every tool to my daughter, and I felt that that made the experience so much better for her. Linda was so patient and knowledgeable. She made me as a parent, feel very comfortable as well. All in all I highly recommend ToothBuds.

We were referred to her by our lactation consultant, Mihoko Yacavone, who is also amazing. We had an excellent experience with Dr. Juliana Hsu. We first discovered his ties through meeting with our lactation consultant for difficulties with breast-feeding and poor weight gain. He had a weak latch and wasn't efficient in emptying my breastmilk. Once learning about his tongue and lip ties, I was also concerned about his mouth breathing and quality of sleep, proper palate formation, tongue posture, jaw alignment, future dental issues, speech issues, and difficulties with feeding. Before the consultation, Dr. Juliana Hsu spent time answering all my questions . At the consultation , Dr. Juliana Hsu, was very welcoming and professional. She was very thorough in evaluating our son, explaining what ties are, how they impact the quality of life, and what to expect with the procedure. She also explained the importance of postoperative stretches. She took her time to demonstrate the stretches as well as allowed me to practice. Which I found helpful! I was a bit nervous the day of the procedure and even second guessed our decision as we walked into her office. Of course we went through with the procedure and were super happy with the results. At the time our son was 8 weeks. To our amazement, the procedure was super quick. Everything went well and we were super pleased with the quality of care we received. Immediately after the procedure, our son was handed to me and I nursed him right there in the office. He was able to latch and I felt a noticeable difference which shocked me. I never knew how powerful a muscle the tongue really is! Dr. Juliana Hsu followed up that night and the next day. Her thoroughness, knowledge, expertise, and compassion really made for a smooth and successful experience. The post operative stretches were definitely tough in the beginning but it got easier. Dr. Juliana was easily accessible and could be reached by phone which I loved, and she was very quick in her responses providing lots of positive reassurance. With that, we were much more confident in our decision and ourselves as parents to do the stretching well. She always made us feel comfortable. Fast forward, our son is 5 months and thriving! He is doing so well. His tongue healed perfectly and we are so glad we followed through with our decision to have the procedure done. Breastfeeding is still going great and we're excited to soon start baby led weaning. We would definitely recommend Dr. Juliana Hsu over and over again.

I just want to provide some perspective to parents who may be considering a frenectomy for their…read morebaby. I think that Dr. Hsu and my lactation consultant (who referred me to her) truly believe they are helping; they believe that many babies with latch issues need this procedure, and in many cases this is true. BUT there is some cognitive bias -- to a hammer, everything looks like a nail; to a pediatric dentist who does dozens of these procedures every month, a frenectomy seems like the obvious solution to feeding issues. In our consultation with Dr. Hsu, my husband and I felt pressured to do the procedure same-day -- she listed all the ways our daughter's tongue tie would impede her development and pushed for doing it now. We decided to take some time to think on it and ultimately chose not to move forward, which I am so glad we didn't as she is perfectly healthy and thriving. While the procedure itself is quick and may not cause intense pain for babies, the stretching exercises post-procedure are very invasive. Our daughter was the most upset we had ever seen her when Dr. Hsu demonstrated the stretching we would need to do - I believe pinning her down to stretch her wound every 4-6 hours for 6 weeks would have changed her temperament from a happy baby to a traumatized one. To those who are on the fence, I would recommend speaking to your pediatrician about whether the procedure is truly necessary as it does not come without a cost.

When Luka was 2.5, he was too scared to go in by himself, so we weren't able to complete his cleaning. Our experience here was completely different, in the best way. Parking was easy, and parents can stay with young children throughout the visit. Dr. Mimi was wonderful, professional, and very patient with Luka. Auntie Lei was fun, incredibly patient and gentle, talking with Luka, comforting him, and making the cleaning feel safe and positive. The front desk staff and the X-ray team were also warm, welcoming, and patient. We especially loved the thoughtful little touches, like taking Luka's photo during his first visit and making a keepsake card for him. It truly felt like everyone here genuinely cares about each child and family. We left feeling so welcomed and cared for. I found out about them having a the worst experience with the pediatric dentist that was with the Aiea Family Dental care. They only had one pediatric dentist at the time which made it difficult to get an appointment even when I informed them that my child was in so much pain. When I first found out about Dr. Hirai, my insurance wouldn't allow me to seek outside care since he wasn't part of the Aiea Family Dental. Mrs. Hirai helped us by not only accepting us as new clients but also gave us discount since I was willing to pay out of pocket to treat my child. Today, we loved hearing that we can stay with Dr. Hirai while my child is a student :) Dr. Allen Hirai has the experience, knowledge and a friendly personality that makes my child happy. That's what matters to me! He knows how to make my child happy, calm and learn about healthy habits. The staffs ate all super nice and friendly too! The experience is so different from any other office we've visited; every visit is peaceful and the rapport Dr. Uchida establishes with all his little patients is a delight to watch. She is very knowledgable and addresses my dental issues with a high degree of professionalism and expertise. I am very comfortable with her being my dentist from here on out. So much so that I have recommended multiple family members to her. The waiting room, dental hygienist, and procedure rooms are all clean and much more modern than my prior dentist. Appointments have been on time and the front desk staff have always been nice to me. Also nice about this place is that they are located in the Kahala Mall professional building where there is ample free parking around the building and the mall. I dont know if Dr. Weiss is taking new patients at this time, but if she is and you are looking for a dentist, I strongly recommend giving her a try.
