First time patient here, and in my first visit they assessed and did an adjustment. They started off with heat lamp and a massager to loosen my muscles. The chiropractor used instruments to apply controlled, rapid, and, high-velocity, low-amplitude force to a joint, typically in the spine. If you prefer the manual hands on crack/twist your body, they do not use that method. They did however crack my neck. So far it seems to be helping with my sciatica. Dr Shiraki is great! He is very friendly and definitely knows what he is doing. If you haven't gone to a chiropractor before I'd highly recommend it, even if you aren't sore or anything. The parking here is great! Lots of parking out front and there are a bunch in the back as well. Mike who usually is working greets me by name everytime i come in. I feel like all the staff are very friendly and personable, making a note to remember those who come in, it really gives that personal feel and that they pay attention to you. Every time you come in they will ask you what your pain level is from 0 -10 and then will set you up with a heating pad either laying on the table or sitting, which ever is more comfortable. After that they will use the massage gun on you and get out some knots. You'll sit down and wait for a little bit until Dr Shiraki can get to you, first in first out style. It will take about 2 visits before he gives you your diagnosis and what he recommends. He also gives you things you can work on at home to help speed up your recovery or just make things stronger. I absolutely love this place. This is a small one room office. The Honor box system is everything. They need to have this everywhere. I went in and checked in, waited for a bit then was told to go lay out under the heat. I went in with pain in my upper back. I was massaged by the machine thing they hold. Then I was asked to sit and wait for a bit for the doctor to be ready. It was my turn and he had asked several questions and such. I put all my trust in him. He felt my spine and analyzed my posture. I wanted to wait until I had a few treatments so I can give an honest review. Wednesday was my 3 treatment for pains on my lower shoulder blade. First off, the office is easy to find and it's very clean and when you walk in they ask that you clean your hands with the hand sanitizer and they have chairs with enough space for social distancing. After every use of the tables they sanitize them and put down new paper wear your face lies. When I had my first appointment I was a little turned off by the open sessions, I'm used to going back into an office with either a door or something separating clients but I quickly got over it because it's not like I'm undressing and it's kind of cool seeing the process so you get ready die what's to come. The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating and it feels like your in a Cheers bar minus the alcohol. You feel good, friendly people and they all know your name. When it's your turn you lay on a table and depending on your pain level you either get ice packs or heat lamps for about 10 minutes. Then you get a massage by those new massage machines that are like mini jack hammers, glad they have levels on them. Then you sit and wait to see Doc. Usually the wait is about 5 minutes, they have their system down so they can help as many people as they can. Once it's your turn with doc, he checks you out and makes notes and then gets to cracking! I don't even like the sound of the crack so it's always a bit cringe for me but let me tell you, my pain was so bad all day and night and rarely could sleep because I could not find a comfortable position and after just two treatments I am feeling the results. I can sleep more and I can sit a little longer without the pain. I still have a ways to go but i am finally optimistic about my recovery. Doc, even though you're a Chiefs fan, I love you man!! Today was my first time stepping into this office. I watched a lot of YouTube videos prior to scheduling my appointment and finally figured that I should give it a try. The office is very easy to find and is located at the end of a multi-unit building. It has a big sign in the front thats hard to miss. The parking lot wraps around the building with some spots that are reserved. When I stepped in, it was a little weird seeing everyone either on a table getting a heat treatment or massage but I'm pretty open minded and it really didn't bother me at all. The atmosphere is very calm and there is some music playing to get you relaxed. I walked in and filled out the paperwork. Proceeded to get a heating pad on my back for about 10 min, then got a massage gun up and down the spine. After this you go to see the Doc. He does his initial spinal check and then makes the adjustments. This process really didn't take long and was very pleasant. It was a bit shocking to feel my neck and hip crack the way that it did. My husband and and I have been seeing Dr. Shiraki for a few months now and let me tell you he is amazing, very knowledgeable and friendly! First things first... parking is decent, there are a lot of stalls as Honor Box is located in the same parking lot as HawaiiUSA FCU, but on the opposite end. Depending on the time you go, stalls can fill up quick or you just have to park farther away. There are stalls located behind the building too. The office is a decent size and fits about 3-4 massage tables with a small waiting area. There are also restrooms in the back of the building, but you need to ask for the key. The staff is very friendly and one of the staff members is Eriko, which is Dr. Shiraki's wife! She is very helpful and so friendly! We normally always see Eriko and Michael and they always make you feel so welcomed. I love that the staff greets you by your name when you walk in the door. We had our initial intake around July of this year. When you call for a new patient appointment, they send you an intake form which consists of basic info and detailed questions asking you to describe your pain areas and levels. We decided that possibly seeing a chiropractor could help my husband's neck pain as well as my lower back pain. We came here because my mom was a former patient many many years ago and she recommended Dr. Shiraki. During your first initial visit, the staff asks you about your pain area and level. Then they can either give you a heat/ice compress along with a quick massage if that's what you decide. After your massage, you wait until Dr. Shiraki is ready to align your spine. He mentions that it's not a quick fix and that your body needs to adjust to the new cracks/alignment. He will also assess your spine and your posture and tell you your specific care plan. He describes in detail what's happening with your spine and how you will feel in the next few visits. Our plans were an 8-visit plan, meaning we saw him 1x a week for 8 weeks. Throughout our care plan, the visits basically go the same. You get an ice or heat compress of your choice and a massage, then you see Dr. Shiraki. Towards the end of your plan, Dr. Shiraki will recommend daily stretches that you can you do to help your spine. He'll also give you tips on how you can improve your posture. Then if need be, he'll change your visits to 1x or 2x a month. Normally, our visits typically last between 25-45 minutes depending on how busy it is. They kinda do it assembly line style which can be quick, but could also affect you if they're running behind because a patient showed up late. They really stress the importance of coming to your appointment on time if not at least 5 minutes early. All appointments are done out in the open, which doesn't bother me because I don't really pay attention to other people lol. Last thing, as far as payments go, it's $50 for a new patient then $40 thereafter. They have really great payment plans! (i.e. Buy 3 visits, get 1 free). They also have a great insurance plan if you qualify and are eligible through your medical insurance. For example, I pay a $15 co-pay for my visits vs. the $40. They can check your insurance if you qualify. They also have an honor box system meaning while you pay $40 for each visit and if there is for any reason that you cannot afford the $40, but need the chiropractic help, you can place any amount in the honor box. However, it is important to note that they do rely on the integrity of their patients so don't pay less just because you feel like it. Overall, my back pain has decreased and I am not as sore as I used to be. My back also feels less tight and feels good after each visit. My husband's neck pain is not as sore as it used to be either, but it does act up from time to time because of what happens at work. I did want to mention that after the chiro, he feels extremely tired, but that could just a personal thing for him because I feel fine after chiro. He also does the stretches daily, which I haven't been consistent with lol. If you don't know that a chiropractor is right for you, just give them a call! It took me years and a lot of thought before finally deciding to see you guys (I was seeing a chiropractor in the early 2000s, but it became expensive and I stopped going). But when I was hit with really bad back pain from an unknown cause and I couldn't find any relief, I reminded myself how well chiropractic care helped me and so I began the search... and I found Honor Box Chiropractic. I was chicken to call, so I emailed for assistance and Dr. Shiraki was kind enough to guide me and I eventually made that call. Michael answered the phone and got me an appointment pretty quickly and I was shocked at how easy it really was! My back was not letting up and the pain had started its way down my leg. I had a nagging knot in my shoulder blade that just would not go away, after getting a monthly Thai massage for three months in a row. Remembering my friend's recommendation, I booked an appointment with Dr. Shiraki. I was impressed by the initial session, and continue to be impressed every time I visit! During my first session, Doc's staff walked me through what would be happening, including heat or ice therapy (my choice), a massage, then the adjustment itself. They also walked me through the various payment options, including their eponymous Honor Box. Basically, you drop in your cash payment for the session, as close as you can to the full $40 amount. This helps out many of us who have tight budgets but really need to fix our backs! My insurance plan doesn't cover chiropractor appointments, which also made the Honor Box an appealing payment option. I was recently able to purchase one of their packages, which can be more economical if paying a larger upfront cost isn't an issue for you. In June 2016, I was invited to visit the Cleveland Chiropractic College campus for my job. I took a tour, got to know some of the admissions folks, and left more and more aware of my horrible posture and neck pains. Over lunch, I mentioned to one of the women who I met that I was seriously considering beginning chiropractic care. She immediately said "Do you live on Oahu? You should go to Dr. Shiraki. He's one of our best alumni." Considering how many students they go through, especially considering how many years ago Dr. Shiraki graduated from Cleveland, the fact that she could immediately remember him impressed me. About a month ago I decided to finally look into this more seriously. I had the time, and the money, and my wrist and back were KILLING me. I was also experiencing a migraine once every 2-4 weeks. I called Honor Box Chiropractic and got set up with my 2 intro appointments. Some important things that you need to know about Dr. Shiraki before coming here: 1. You will start with 2 appointments. The first appointment is $10. The price of the second appointment follows item #3 on this list. The $10 appointment will include a percussion massage, and an exam, but no adjustment. The second appointment includes therapy (if needed), a percussion massage, a quick exam, your first adjustment, and an overview of your current spinal health. 2. He only diagnoses for spinal subluxation, which is basically a misalignment in your spine. He will not adjust any other part of your body. So my wrist? No direct treatment here. But my wrist did stop hurting after my first 3 spinal adjustments. 3. He uses an Honor Box payment system, or a package payment system. You try to pay as close to $40 as possible to the Honor Box, or you purchase a package deal, which can help to reduce the price per visit, if you are able to pay more funds up front. If you have insurance that covers chiropractic care, they will help you file your claim. 4. His staff is super friendly, and will make you feel more like you're at a friends house than waiting to get your back professionally cracked. I've had quite a few good laughs here. In addition to your adjustments, you will be given additional tasks to work on to supplement your therapy. One example: Trying to stand for at least 20 seconds after 20 minutes of sitting. The review of my spinal health at the end of my second visit made me scared. I knew my back was in bad shape but I didn't think it was as bad as it actually is. The marked areas of subluxation made sense, though, and matched to the areas where I tended to feel the most discomfort. He also pointed out strange alignment issues that I've noticed, such as the curve near the tail end of my spine. At the end of each adjustment visit, you receive a newsletter, which is inspirational and thought-provoking. I have become more mindful of my spinal health every day since starting with Dr. Shiraki. And while my back is not in perfect shape yet, it took me over 20 years to get here, so it will definitely take some time for me to get to where I would like to be. I've been having slight pains here and there for a while. Nothing that was too extreme, but overtime, it can do more harm than good. I decided on making an appointment for an adjustment to get my body back on track. I've got to say, it's one of the best decisions I made. They have many plans available that lower the overall cost of visits. You should check it out. The initial treatment usually starts with a few questions to get an idea of what needs to be fixed in order for body wellness. From there, you can decide on putting heat or cold onto your trouble area. A mini massage occurs a few moments later. They use a handheld massager that works wonders. Luckily, due to a cancelation, I was able to get my first adjustment also. This usually is separate from the initial review. During my adjustment, I was flat on my stomach, back, and on both sides. With every adjustment I could feel the tension ease and lightness in my body. At the end of my adjustment I felt refreshed, light, and brand new. With every crack, there was minimal pain so don't be afraid. It wasn't as bad as I thought it could be. Overall, I have a follow up adjustment coming. At every visit they ask what you pain level is and always start off with heat or cold therapy and a massage. Then you sit and wait your turn to get adjusted. I didn't know what to expect the first time and ways he turned my neck or positioned my body I thought to myself "It'll crack this way?" and sure enough...CRRRRRRRACK! You may or may not feel the difference after the first, second or even third visit but don't give up. If you continue the care I promise you, you will feel the difference. Be honest in the amount of pain your feeling and if you're experiencing pain in different areas, make sure you let them know! Dr. Shiraki will recommend the amount of times that he will need to see you in order to get your spine adjusted to where all you need is once a month maintenance.
