Our driver nicknamed "Short" was a great driver as well as a native who knew the island and all it's customs, history, and it's little fun facts and quirks. Short is also a life philosopher. I won't spoil it should you get him, but he has a good way of keeping things light hearted but really makes you think about why the world and it's constant feuding is the way it is. The trip started sharply at 8AM (hotel lobby pickup) and after picking up a few passengers at different hotels, we were off. The Pearl Harbor tour and the ride over was excellent. While I knew a lot of what he was narrating, he goes into the back story of why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Much different than what you probably learned in history class. Nothing excuses the Japanese military government for doing what they did and he's not an apologist for them, but he laid out the facts leading up to it. Very informative. The movie at the Pearl Harbor center was well done by the Park Service, but we didn't have much time to look around much after that as we needed to keep to schedule. A few passengers were a full 30 minutes late, but he didn't give them the riot act but instead gently and jokingly chided them a little. It was pretty funny! The Dole pineapple gift shop stop was all about buying stuff, so if you've done it you'll be bored. But for first timers, get the Pineapple Freeze at the back of the store. We stopped by three parks and beaches which included the North Shore, a park whose name I forget, and Hanauma Bay. We highly recommend PPF. Just remember as part of a tour, be courteous and be on time. Write it down, put it in your phone, whatever it takes to keep everyone on the tour on track!

The day arrived for the lesson and the kids were super eager. After meeting their instructors, we took a short walk to the beach. Everything was explained to us. We were all on the same page as far as making sure the kids understood what they're going to do, and my apprehension was put at ease. The two older kids (ages 9 and 8) were totally having the time of their lives. They rode tandem with the instructors and were surfing as if they'd been doing this forever by the end of their session. The little one (6 years old) had a little bit of a mishap. As he paddled out to ride a wave with his instructor, he wiped out - waves all over him, surfboard in the air, exactly what I had been anguishing over. My son and his instructor both recovered. The instructor tried getting him back on the board, but he wasn't having it anymore. The instructor brought him back to us to shore. We tried coaxing him back to surf, but fear already set in. Even my daughter's instructor tried getting him on the board with them, but he refused. Nevertheless, the experience was really cool. The instructors were relaxed and patient. They gave us great photo opportunities. The best part was the two older children were inspired to go out and surf some more.

When we got there Roger seemed accommodating, we rented for 2 hours, but he asked us to return closer to 3 because he had to bring guests back to their hotel. We didn't need or want the extra hour but again obliged to help a small business we had young children with us and knew they wouldn't hold interest, plus it was pretty windy for the little dudes. 3. When my husband went to bring the items back Roger was 40 minutes late! So we waited an extra hour to turn in the rentals and then an additional 40 minutes waiting on Roger. 4. Then i realized my card was charged an extra $54.00. Attempted to communicate with the business via their 2 phone numbers and email... took a week after countless voicemails etc. 5. When i finally got a call back they said they undercharged us and fixed their mistake. Fine, understood. However, a notification would have been nice since i signed for the amount upon rental agreement. I just found this whole thing so unprofessional and disorganized. They also have other activities you can tack on for extra. Meals not included. I asked if they could arrange for a free day to roam as we please and she said we can pay for the 7 day while doing the 6 day package with the last day to embrace our last day of heaven. The e-tickets were legitimate(I'm always skeptical of any arrangements done through phone/online due to scams). Tour guides/drivers Ken and Peter were prompt and nice throughout the week, gave good descriptions and good insight to the local Hawaiian lifestyle. Their english was broken, but enough that non chinese tourists could grasp what they were saying. The Maui tour guide, Raymond, had many interesting stories to tell. A lot of his descriptions were very visual. Every time I look at the Maui island on a map, I will always see a woman now. The big island tour guide, Angela, was friendly and informative of the area. Her own backyard grows lychee and papaya. :o) Overall, a fabulous whirlwind glimpse of Hawaii. We definitely enjoyed the tour and accomodations. If you do want to change your itinerary, they will adjust it to your liking as they have on going tours every day. Itinerary was given to us when we were shuttled to our hotel. Dependent on the tour, we had to wake up pretty damn early...pretty much 80% of the time we had to meet at the lobby at 6am. Generally the tour guides were very nice and though they speak broken English, it's suffices the experience. They tend to share the same jokes though and you'll notice it after the 2nd tour. Quick tip: In terms of asking guides for recommendations on things to do or eat, I highly suggest researching that on your own and in advance with YELP. Plus, you can actually ask your tour guide to drop you off at certain place after your tour which saves you the time and tax fare to the restaurant. Just make sure you have the address handy.

We started our week with the Experience Nutridge luau, which is hands-down the best luau I've experienced. It's much more authentic than the typical luaus around the island. We were hosted as a private group, which automatically made our employees feel very special and taken care of. Throughout the night, we experienced immersive and true Hawaiian culture; we weren't stuck in our seats all night, but instead, we were welcomed and encouraged to explore the property, take part in the cooking, and truly soak in the traditional dances and cultural activities. The employees are still raving about it! The next day, David and his team took us on an 8-hour, customized tour of the island. Every part of this was so fun and immersive! It wasn't a boring tour where we were stuck on the bus the entire time - we got to explore several spots around the island, take time for photos, and hear David's personal stories from each point of the island. Even our bus driver was phenomenal. She had a story for every moment of the drive! On Tuesday (day 3), our group was taken to Pearl Harbor to see the Arizona Memorial. Before entering the Welcome Center, we were taken on a Honolulu drive around the city and given a private lunch at Restaurant 604, overlooking Pearl Harbor - so stunning. Once we were inside the memorial grounds, we were given personal audio devices which we could use in the museums, around the memorial campus, and on the Arizona Memorial - the devices helped to give us context as to what we were viewing. David helped to arrange everything, so we didn't have to worry about a single thing. It was all ready to go when we arrived! The next day (day 4), our group was shuttled to Hanauma Bay. We were provided with snorkel gear and entrance fee money, so once again, our group didn't have to worry about single thing. It was all taken care of! On the last day of our trip, David and his Hawaii State Tours team took us to Kualoa Ranch where we boarded custom 16-passenger jeeps for the "Jungle Jeep Tour" around the ranch. The tours were approximately 90-minutes long, and they took us through the jungle of O'ahu where many films and tv shows have been shot. My favorite part was the stunning view of the ocean from the property's elevated areas. Later that day, our company ended our week-long trip by having a sunset dinner cruise aboard the Majestic. We had an all-inclusive buffet and a consumption bar tab. It was the perfect way to end the week - sunset views and fireworks! Throughout this process, David and his team were so kind and open to us, even when we changed our minds a million times. Going to HI during a pandemic is tricky enough. Navigating all the rules and guidance from airlines to airports and beyond is stressful. Both guys made our trip something we will remember, for sure! Even though we couldn't do some of the events on our original itinerary (we were supposed to go in March '20 but our trip was cancelled because HI shut everything down), they still provided us with a great experience - private luau, catamaran sail, beach time, two driving tours, Kualoa ranch, hotel with Waikiki beach within a block). I can't stress enough how hard they worked to provide a great trip for our group, despite the challenges of co-orinating a tour of 30 people when most places were only allowing in groups of five or no one at all. On days when they didn't have things planned, they were offering advice on places to go, excursions to take, markets to visit, restaurants to eat at, etc. If our group goes again, we'll definitely be travelling with the help of Hawaii State Tours!
