Hands down, Colorado Springs best bookstore. Extensive stock, and what they don't have, they can get. Nice location, plenty of parking. And best of all, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. I have been going to this fine establishment since I got here in 1997, and they have never disappointed. They are patient and tenacious when researching a book for me, they are very kind and sweet to my 8-year old son. And now they even have coffee! What more could you ask for. Update: It only gets better at this place! After returning for a second visit to switch up some books we bought in error (we already had them), the staff was super easy to work with. We are fans and will be back! Great selection and friendly staff. There are so many books that it can be challenging to find specific books you may be looking for. But no worries! The staff has a mental inventory of where everything is and can get you straight to what you may be looking for. Highly recommend! read more

This is my Happy Place. The sci-fi section is top-notch, and the general fiction selection is just absurd. I've always had really good luck finding whatever I was looking for here, and even for cash-only books, the prices are pretty reasonable. . There's a reason why I've been a regular here for 30 years. Hooked on Books has been one of my favorite bookstores in the city since I was a teenager! The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is that these people truly love books! The place is a veritable MAZE of books! They are stacked up to the ceiling in some places, which gives the whole store a very cozy atmosphere! You feel like you could just sit down and fall right into a good story! As for the staff, they are very knowledgeable and as courteous as can be! They are more than willing answer any questions, or just to engage in fun conversation. For me, service is always key to a place I visit, so knowing that I can expect kindness and friendliness here is a great comfort. Also, the books are reasonably priced, with a great selection of new and used titles available. read more

Was in the area and we enjoyed the diverse collection of hooked on books! They have two locations and we actually went to both! We had so much fun at the first one and really found some collectors treasures so then we ended up going to the downtown location. This shop is a must for book collectors, book lovers and treasure hunters. The staff was friendly and helpful too. Really love the painted windows and other details that the shop has. Next time we come to Colorado Springs we will be coming here again. read more

OK, This little Right Wing church and military depot called Colorado Springs hardly deserves such a good bookstore but somehow we lucked out and have Hooked on Books! Many might be content with the plastic chain shopping mall bookstores or the downtown area with its not so hot Little Richards bookstore, but if you want better than that head out to the Palmer Park/ Academy BLVD side area. Plus there is a nice little fish and pet store and a nice little Mexican Market nearby in the same area, too! The big park being so close by, in better weather you can buy a book, buy your lunch at the Mexican Restaurant/ Market,and then head out to the park just across Academy for a picnic! YES, book prices are cheap here and the selection is better than what you would get anywhere else in town. In fact, I like this place better than Tattered Books in Denver and only Boulder has a bookstore that can compete with Hooked on Books. However this is not a coffee shop like with Barnes and Noble and Borders. It's just a real bookstore, with both used and new together! read more

Best used book store I've been to- period. They have aisles upon aisles of good quality used books (new books too) and they give you a good deal for trade ins. All books are very reasonably priced and they are so friendly and kind. They remember your name and are really sweet to our daughter when we go, they give her toys and extra goodies. This is the first place I go when I'm looking for a book. I've had really good luck finding all sorts of cookbooks and paperbacks here. We save a ton of money buying used, which is a bonus when the high school reading lists come out every year. read more

There are TONS of books just crammed into this labyrinthine space, and the staff are knowledgeable and very cool. I found a lot of texts on what I was looking for but they were uniformly overpriced, averaging 25-30% over what I'd expect to pay for the items used, to say nothing of what can be found online. I'd definitely come back, but only if I had no cheaper alternative, and this place deserves far far better. read more

I was suprised and impressed that I found exactly what I was looking for in a used book store, and I don't mean by finding a book. What I mean is the organized chaos and clutter of Books everywhere! There is a little bit of a higher price tag for the used books but if you pay in cash they take 20% off. I can't wait to see what the future holds for my next trip to Hooked on Books! read more

October 9, 2012 I went to Hooked On Books today for the first time to sell some books to them. We are moving into an RV & I need to save space. I have already sold a bunch of my books to Powell's online in exchange for store credit to apply towards kindle books through their company. While the tall, slender lady (probably in her 40's) with shoulder length brown hair was going through my books, she asked me how I'd like to be paid. She asked if I wanted credit. I said "Well, my plan is to sell my books and apply the credit/money towards the kindle versions." She said "Oh, nevermind." She slammed the 2 books down on the counter that she said she would accept and shoved them towards me, did an about-face and stormed off! I have never experienced such horrific customer service in my life! I was about to ask her if they were like Powell's and ran a program like they do. I understand Kindle is putting book stores out of business, but some businesses (in order to stay in business) are getting wise and jumping on the kindle bandwagon and selling kindle books too. If she didn't want to give me cash, I was just going to GIVE HER MY BOOKS FOR FREE because I really don't need them anymore, but after her terrible behavior (in front of my 6 year old no less) I decided I would never do business with her ever again. On top of that, I might add that the store was in utter upheaval, I've never seen such disorganization in a business in my life. As for their prices, I have no idea what they run. All I know is the store was a terrible mess and the customer service I received was appalling. With staff like that, it's not Kindle that's going to put them under, it's that lady. Way overpriced for a used/trade book store! Paper backs should not be over 2.95 ever for a used book. Terrible!

Average in my opinion. I've had mixed luck with this place. My boyfriend is a business major and found a nice little stack of summer reading books but as a psych major and a bookworm I was a little disappointed. I've since been ordering online- better prices and better selection. I wouldn't recommend them if you are looking for anything specific, but there are plenty of shelves if you are just looking to browse. read more

I've come here regularly since we moved to the area about four years ago. Hooked On Books is fair about their trade-in policies; sale prices are reasonable, and staff is always friendly. What more could a book lover ask for? Not only that, they've recently put out a table where you can pour yourself a cup of coffee to drink while you browse the shelves. I want to publicly commend Hooked on Books for responding quickly and graciously to my hurt feelings and GENEROUSLY reaching out to me to make amends. They do in fact care about their customers and the experiences we have in the store! I stand corrected. I will return and support this local business. This is the best used bookstore in Colorado Springs, hands down. The holdings are very diverse, and the books are well organized. It is a well-run bookstore, as evidenced by friendly and knowledgeable staff who are happy to look up titles and authors in their database to tell you if they have particular works. They also have a large sci-fi section and a lot of science and natural history books, as well as philosophy and the arts. Although located in a different part of town than where I live, I always try to drop in when I'm in the area. read more

Love love love this book store. Nice atmosphere, huge variety of books to choose from, and lovely people. Especially the tall fellow David. My daughter just loved him and he was super helpful guiding us through the children's section and helping her find books she'd like. While we were browsing, David came by to check on us a few times and told some jokes to my daughter. Great experience for her first book store. Would recommend. :) read more
