The cutest with the sweetest staff! Got a beautiful collection of illustrated short stories

I stumbled across this store while leaving Colorado City today. I was on my way to a gas station when I found it. Ironically, I was going to ask a store employee in downtown Colorado City if there was a local bookstore for me to check out. Westside Stories have parking spaces on the side of their building specifically for their patrons with signs that indicate parking for their store only. The parking spots are only a very short walk to the front of the store. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by a nice young man behind the checkout counter. After the greeting, I told him how I found the store and he expressed gratitude to me for stopping by. He also showed me to a section of books I inquired about. I like how he got up from his seat and walked over to the section then pointed out a few other sections that were related to the type of book I was looking for. This bookstore has a nice historic feel to it. I love the smell of it too. It's not dank or musty. I believe the young man I spoke to is the owner or manager. He didn't feel a need to tell me this but I speculated by the way he was providing information to me. He told me about the history of the building which was fascinating to me. I don't remember the exact details and don't want to jumble them here. From what I remember, some righteous or humanitarian work was done here. I recommend taking plenty of time to browse the wide variety of books at Westside Stories. There are shelves and shelves of books for you book aficionados out there. I would've spent much longer in the store but wanted to get back home. I liked the "Arnold Schwarzenegger" shrine behind the checkout area. The young man staff member told me that he is a fan of Arnold. I thought this was something cool and different to see at a business. Could be considered a good luck charm too. We spoke about some classic "Arnold" movies as well. I have a few favorite ones from childhood. I really liked how this young man was personable and friendly. This is so important for any business. I hope that this business prospers. They've been in business for about three years. Also, when browsing this bookstore, I discovered various books I haven't seen before and this is coming from someone who nearly lives in bookstores and Amazon, shopping for books. Again, if you're a book lover I recommend checking them out. The energy is beautiful and it's quiet..... Love it! Looking forward to my return here! Hope you have a fantastic visit! read more

Love this bookstore! The owner is super cool and helpful. They have sections for kids, young adults, and adults with every genre. They even have a rare books section. Lots of little weird trinkets too lol. I'm pretty sure they're actually cheaper than chain bookstores after reviewing a bunch of books. Loved this adorable bookstore! My husband took me here yesterday for Mother's Day. I didn't even know this bookstore was here which made me sad. I can't wait to go back again. I really do adore reading. There really is nothing better than being surrounded by books. The store was clean and quaint. The guy working up front was sweet as well! This is an awesome used bookstore! They have everything! I had such a nice time walking around the shop and checking out their selection. Of course, I left with four books because they have an awesome, buy three, get one free deal AND they have fabulous prices. I was so happy because I left with a stack of books that I had been wanting to read for a while. Might I also add that they have two beautiful cats in this bookstore? They are super friendly and have made this store their home. It is awesome and it didn't cause too much of a flare up for my allergies, which is nice. Shop Local!!! The kiddos needed some new books to read, so instead of ordering online or going to a big book store I decided to try and find a local vendor. Low & behold I found The Bookman here on Yelp, and started going through their reviews. I noticed they have a couple of cats in the shop, and my kids are cat fanatics so this was truly meant to me. It is a lovely little book store, with places to sit and check out books. They have a descent selection, though they may not have what you are looking for since it is a used book store. We weren't looking for anything particular so we were able to find some books that peaked the kids interest, as well as mine. We did spend a bit of extra time there so the kids could go love on the kitties, which was the highlight for them. We had purchased 4 books so we were able to get a discount on the 4th one. The cashier also informed us that if we were to bring books in, that you can get some kind of store credit to use there to get more books (Sorry I don't recall the exact details of the deal) which is pretty sweet. They just moved to a sweet shop at 631 W. Colorado and the cats came with the books. A great selection of used books in good condition at reasonable prices. They also special order books for people who don't want to put their financial information online. The cats, Blue and Gray, are so friendly always available for a stroking. The staff is helpful and will walk you to the area you are interested in and help you locate books. read more

This is a truly special place. The Bookman's owner, Jene' is as kind and helpful a person as you'll ever meet. Because is herself a writer, she is a bona fide bibliophile and can provide a service that an online bookseller or other large corporation. Trading in your DVD's and books is also impossible with anything other than a small bookshop like The Bookman. LOVE this place!! :) read more

I stopped into this place on my lunch break hoping to score the Hunger Games books. Unfortunately, they did not currently have any in stock, but the employee was super helpful and took me right to the shelf to look. I didn't end up buying anything, but spent the next few minutes browsing. Looks like they have a good selection of used books for reasonable prices. It is just like your typical, local bookstore, however, in that there are piles of books everywhere in a sort of organized chaos. So, I suggest that if you are looking for something in particular, ask! I will definitely be back when I am too impatient to order one on Amazon! read more

This has been one of my favorite places in the Springs ever since I discovered it about 7 years ago. It is my "book exchange", where I take books I've read too many times to trade them out for "new" ones. They offer a 1/2 trade in, meaning that you can use 1/2 of your trade in value toward the purchase of another book. I've been doing this for years and am happy to recycle my books. Because most of their books come in this way, they aren't the best stop for freshly printed best sellers, but they are fantastic for series books, miscellaneous health and science books as well as classic novels. The most fun part of going here is that you really never know what you're going to find. The staff is always incredibly helpful and there are two very loving and absolutely appropriate Russian blue cats that wander the store with you. It's a fantastic shop and I hope it stays around for many more years. read more

We came here in a bad moods and just needed something to do. We recently moved to the Springs and were waiting for our moving truck to show up with our items and things. After a few weeks of waiting and getting sick of Netflix on a laptop, we decided to look at some used book stores. I love books. I teach English, and I practically collect these things for sentimental reasons. But I gave up a lot of my collection when we moved. So coming here was a therapy session. First, a very nice young cat showed us to the section my fiance was looking for. I think he made that up, but we split up to cover more ground. Really, I like fiction and he likes non-fiction. They have a good variety, but I couldn't find anything I was hoping to find. We ended up leaving with a few books. The prices aren't bad, but they are a little pricey for a used bookstore. I get it though, they've got cats to feed and probably rent to pay for the store. So of course it's not as cheap as used books online. The man working here was friendly and helped me reach a book that was too high up. Thrift stores sell books cheaper but wouldn't have this big of a collection. This is a great place to stop and I even heard people calling and asking for a specific book which is a nice bonus. Overall, I'd definitely come back! read more

VERY respectable book store! I'm allergic to cats, but will gladly bring an inhaler in order to soak in what must be the most extensive conglomeration of eclectic reading material in Southern Colorado. They have an amazing array of cookbooks and travelogues, and even a great selection of used sheet music and chess books (rare for Colorado!), and the collection of militaria is enormous. Very impressed, will be back for sure. read more

He's not a pompous ass either ( he knows a lot but chooses to educate rather than shower in ego, like some bookstore owners do!). And he sometimes has brownies his wife bakes...they are awesome.
