I recently learned about bento box lunch meals that some sushi restaurants offer. I have tried 3+ restaurants all over San Diego and I am sooo happy with Hooked on Sushi. For $16.50 I got spicy chicken teriyaki and 8 cucumber rolls, included in each bento lunch special you also get rice, salad & miso soup. And they are all DELICIOUS!!! The spicy teriyaki could have been spicier, but it was non the less very good. The ambiance is super chill and service is fantastic, very quick! read more

Tried this restaurant as an alternative option since Sushi Lounge had an hour wait--and wow we are glad we did! Immediately my party of 6 was seated as soon as we arrived. The food came out relatively quickly as well, and mostly everything was delicious. All the sushi rolls, nigiri, and side dishes were great. The only negative thing I have to say about the food was the chicken teriyaki as it was pretty rubbery in my opinion. Other than that, my family and I enjoyed our dinner and were very happy we did not have to wait so long to eat. We will definitely be back :) read more

Normally we love the food and service, But saying that, they never messed up an order until now and how they handled their mistake rubbed me the wrong way. I like going at lunch, less people, less noise, the lunch specials are great, the service is fast.. Today I went with my daughter, we had a young server. We both ordered a pick 3 since we love bringing home the leftovers. I always order the same thing because I don't eat raw fish. My daughter doesn't like shrimp so we are 100% sure that we ordered what we ordered. The food took 3X as long as it normally takes. The server apologized, no big deal. The manager lady, small, petite with black glassses, brought us our food a little later. She apologized for the long wait. I noticed right away that they messed up my order and gave me the wrong specialty roll with raw fish on top. I immediately said, that I didn't order this particular roll. She checks her hand held computer thing and said, "Nope, you ordered this. I will need to check with your server." She takes my plate over to the young server and the girl shrugs her shoulders like she doesn't know what happened. Then the manager takes the plate back to the kitchen. During this time my daughter noticed her vegetable tempura was actually mixed with shrimp and there is an up charge for the mixed tempura. So when my food comes back, my daughter says something, so we wouldn't be charged for something she didn't order and wouldn't eat. The server apologizes and takes my daughter's plate back to the kitchen. 2 minutes later, the manager lady comes back with her plate with them obviously just picking out the shrimp, her tempura looked disheveled and the tempura was broken off some of the vegetables. (I guess that would normally be fine since our point for speaking up was that we didn't want to be charged for the shrimp.) But the manager lady in a rude harsh tone tells us to "MAKE SURE YOUR ORDER IS CORRECT. THE KITCHEN SAID, "THIS IS IT !!! NO MORE CHANGES." I was a little surprised, and said, "Excuse me? we just want to get what we ordered. I don't eat raw fish, she doesn't eat shrimp, we come here all the time. We order the same thing EVERYTIME, Your server must of entered it wrong in the computer." No apologizes, no nothing, she just storms away to the kitchen, probably to eat the roll and shrimp that they took back. She was so RUDE for their mistake. We didn't even want to eat after that exchange and just sat there for like 10 minutes waiting for them to walk by again so we could ask for to-go boxes. I think what probably happened was when we ordered, the server did repeat back what we said and probably entered it correctly, but the order must of not gone through to the kitchen. Maybe she forgot to hit submit on her hand held computer or something. That is why it was taking so long when we were the only people still waiting for food and the guys behind the Sushi bar were chit-chating. She probably realized after a while, and was too embarrassed to ask us what we ordered again. She probably tried to remember what we ordered and she resubmited it incorrectly. I realize mistakes happen all the time, I'm never that mean customer that is rude to the staff. But it is expensive now days to go out to eat, and if you make a mistake I will ask you to fix it politely. Most places will apologize and fix it no questions asked, even do a little something to make it up to you. But WOW manager lady!!! Thanks for being so rude, making it look like we were being so difficult asking for CHANGES when you guys messed up, and ruining my lunch with my daughter. Came around 5pm on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty empty. Tried the black dragon roll (pretty standard but tasty), sashimi roll (mixed sashimi rolled in cucumbers), orange crush roll (salmon and scallop), and the premium sashimi 20 pieces. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious. The sashimi in particular stood out due the exceptional quality of fish (salmon and bluefin tuna in particular) and super fair price ($35). Our waitress was very welcoming and helped me feel totally comfortable asking questions about the menu. My family was incredibly pleased with our experience and will definitely return in the future! Tldr; possibly the best sushi place in the nearby area based on the quality of the fish and affordable prices. I've been visiting this place a few times now and is solid. The service is great, and fast. Always received you with a smile. The place is clean and the ramen has a great broth flavor. My party of 3 came here on a Friday night around 7:30pm. We checked in and put ourselves on the waitlist which took about 10 minutes for us to get a seat. The staff was very attentive and frequently came to visit our table. We got three speciality rolls, which were split between two people. I received one avocado roll and a hand roll which was also avocado. Overall the food was really good, my friends enjoyed the specialty roll especially the one that had chopped tempura shrimp and chopped jalapeños. Overall, this place was pretty good and if I lived nearby, I would definitely take advantage of the loyalty points. read more

Literally the freshest sushi I've ever had, and I've had a *lot* of sushi. The rolls came out extremely fast. We got a mix of vegetarian rolls and ones with fish. Both were phenomenal. Their appetizers are also delicious, with amazing and light agedashi tofu as well as some delicious mixed tempura to get us started! Our server was nice, too.
