This is a hidden and really impressive GEM! We came in here to check it out and decided to have a late afternoon snack and they have Kinmedai which is very hard to find! Stumbled upon this place and was pleasantly surprised that it was a duel type business. More of a Sushi forward restaurant and they had local roots on tap! Loved the decor. Mainly it was art by locals hung and displayed for sale. Our server was very nice from the very moment we walked in to the very moment we left. Several were at the sushi bar area to socialize and it was closer to the tv viewing. How about this world series eh !? I definitely wish to come back here soon. read more

I came in on a Tuesday afternoon around 12:30. There was plenty of seating - booths, tables, high-tops with a view outside, and spots right in front of the sushi chef. Our server was very friendly and even offered me a sample of the kombucha, which was light and refreshing. I started with the seaweed salad. It was $8 and served over a bit of lettuce, but for that price, the portion felt a little underwhelming. I also ordered the Moonlight and Kook rolls. Both were great, but the Kook roll was definitely my favorite. We got one more roll as well, but I don't remember the name. It started with an F and isn't listed on the Yelp menu or online, which needs to be updated, but it ended up being my top pick of the three. All the sushi tasted super fresh and high quality. I had higher hopes for this place, especially because it's a short walk from the beach. It wasn't bad, I just probably would be hesitant to return. The staff were very friendly but service was a little slow. I think maybe they just need an additional waiter to help out. The seaweed salad was seasoned well which I enjoyed alot. The Chimichurri Roll was flavorful, truly tasting like Chimichurri, but I wish there it would have had crunchy fried onions on top to add more texture to the roll. The Kook was more simplistic but my preferred roll of the two because I could taste the fish more. This may be a personal taste though because my partner's preferences were the opposite of mine. The restaurant itself was clean, spacious, and far enough from the beach bars where you don't have to deal with drunk people yet close enough where you can walk to it in heals with no regrets (just in case other girlies want to dress cute for date night). Finally got a chance to try this place and it was an overall great experience. First of all, I love the decor and the vibe. It's very clean and the design is perfect for the neighborhood. Second, I like how the menu is not too big, not a lot of fluff. Rolls are unique and flavorful. I liked the Stone Steps and Moonlight rolls. The employees were very kind and welcoming! I could tell a lot of the patrons were regulars; it gave a neighborhood gem vibe. This is a perfect choice for a meal before the Belly Up or after watching sunset at Fletchers Cove. We ordered literally 2 poke bowls and waited a full 55 minutes. We get that the kitchen gets backed up, but it wasn't crowded and honestly, the biggest problem was that the waitress never even came to check in on us. In addition, she brought 1 bowl, and it was another 5 minutes before the next came. She was sweet, but super scattered and frantic that just created a bad vibe for the whole experience. Stopped by the new Kai Ola in Solana Beach, tucked away on the corner of Cedros and Lomas Santa Fe. My girlfriend has a sesame allergy and the chef went to great lengths to make sure none of the ingredients contained sesame. When he found out our original order had ingredients that were cooked with sesame seeds he offered nigiri and an entire roll on the house. Will definitely be coming back again.
