I ordered delivery here since I was having cravings for sushi. I had been to the Hooked on Sushi in Oceanside where people also raves about the reviews, and figured I would try it since the reviews were consistently high and my previous experience had not been bad. It was nice to see the multitude of options that were available but the ones that stood out to me were the lemon roll and harachuku roll. As you can see, it is packaged cleanly and well, and they offered chopsticks and napkin on the side. Sometimes sushi places separate the sauces and I ask myself what is missing because I eat it immediately and don't always look at the whole package in advance , but this one was made as if it were delivered to you at the restaurant (which i appreciated.) I asked to leave the package outside of the house, and it was done so quietly and promptly. The rolls were delicious. I was in the area and craving Asian food, so I decided to try it.it was a Thursday mid afternoon and wasn't too busy.. a couple of tables were occupied . I ordered food to go.. Having never been there, I figured a Bento box would be a sample of their food. The person taking my order said to wait by the sushi counter.. but I didn't want to sit there as I wasn't having sushi. I took a seat at a row of tables near the door. My take out took almost 25 minutes to come out. despite them not being busy. When I opened up the tempura, it was a bit soggy , maybe it had sat a few minutes, and the dipping sauce was very bland.The rest of the food was ok, not the best I've ever had but certainly edible. I'm giving this three stars because of cold food and horrid service. I ordered online and picked it up right on time. I'm not from around here so getting the shaft from two rookies really pisses me off. There were two people helping one guy at 8pm Monday 8/3 while my food on the table was getting cold. They asked me to wait outside till they called me because only one person was allowed at a time. I get that but one other person could have asked if I was picking up, but instead, six minutes went by and the two went along finishing up with the guy. Once he came out, I went in because I knew if I didn't, I would have been waiting God knows how long. My food which was sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken (which was lacking teriyaki) and ALL OF IT WAS COLD. The chicken gyoza and salad were good and my Miso was miraculously warm to enjoy. My girlfriends salmon hand roll, killer salmon roll and the Mexican gone wild were of course good because they're meant to be cold. I was only two miles away and my food was cold just as I got there. This was our second time here, this time we came for Valentine's Dinner. The sushi is very good here and it will satisfy your sushi craving. All the food was fresh and tasty, but the spicy rolls we ordered were really not that spicy, so we were a little disappointed in that regard. This restaurant is in a similar vein to Sushi Lounge Encinitas in multiple respects: it's located in a strip mall, not any atmosphere so to speak, an excellent variety of rolls from which to choose and good quality fish. I'd give an edge to Sushi Lounge Encinitas in terms of flavor. But, I'd give an huge edge to Hooked on Sushi in service on multiple fronts: friendliness, professionalness, and attentiveness of the servers; as well as the speed of sushi preparation and delivery to the tablehe quality of service that we received at Hooked on Sushi last night*** ). We think the texture and flavors of the rolls would be improved if the chefs put a thicker cut of fish on the tops of the rolls; if management is trying to keep your rolls at certain price point, may I suggest that you give the customer the option of getting thicker cuts on top of rolls with a standard upcharge of $2 or $3 (much like an upcharge for real wasabi or real crab). Also, we were confused by the "Yelp Waitlist" kiosk at the front door. We love using Yelp Waitlist from our phone in advance, but despite the kiosk at the door we are not showing any option to use Yelp Waitlist from our phone.... what gives??? We picked this place to host a family party. Since we were near this location, hosting 25 family members, for a weekend trip, it meant a lot of leftover food from previous meals. Instead of catering, people were able to easily view the menu on their phones and select items a la carte. Hooked On Sushi had a great variety of items to choose from -- including a gluten free menu. Our family loved the food and said everything was so fresh. Online ordering was super easy and dinner was ready for us to pick up at the scheduled time.
