11/17/24 We recently discovered Hooverville Orchards on a local community post and have been looking to go check them out. Hubs loves pie in general so you know I had to drag him along! We finally made it out on Sunday morning and it's a really cute orchard! Hooverville Orchards offers so many fruit pies, cobblers, cookies, sourdough bread, tiramisu, fruit juices, jams and jellies and fresh baked gluten free pies. We grabbed a large peach blackberry pie and a sourdough bread to go. The sourdough is sooo good! It's perfectly the right chewy texture and taste! I wished we would have grabbed 2! My kids felt like the perfect description for this bread was if sourdough & ciabatta had a baby bread. OoOo haha. I read that they occasionally have garlic loaves, rosemary flavored and even Olive ones too! I'd have to come back one of those weekends! They are taking Thanksgiving Pie orders through this week. The pie was really good too! The crust was flaky and good. The fruit was not overly sweet or tart and best of all served warm if you go early enough. This past weekend, they also had satsuma mandarins available for $3/lb. We grabbed a bag and grabbed a little over 3lbs for the kiddos lunch snack for school this week. It's a tad tart but oh so juicy bursting tart mandarins! It's a bit of a windy road getting there so try to take it easy and try not missing the left turn to the Orchard as you'd be stuck for a few minutes up the hill trying to make a U-turn to make a sharp right turn. We didn't spend a ton of time there but read that they have a huge rose garden where you can pick your own roses for $1/stem! We'll have to roam around next time! We'll be back soon. read more

Very smart of the business to post "you're almost there!" signs on the way here because I was starting to get over driving on the winding road lol. Actively running orchard location with a small bakery shop. The apple slices in the apple crumble pie were very much on the tart side (like, from super Granny Smith apples or something lol). Favorite thing about this pie is the streusel topping; one of the best that I've tried on an apple crumble/dutch apple pie because it retains its crispiness well even after a few days in the refrigerator. Marionberry pie was jam-packed (no pun intended) with dense puréed marionberry filling. I prefer fruit pies that have a chunky filling but this one is great for those who don't want to deal with any pie filling gloopiness. The gentleman at the counter recommended getting a sourdough loaf so I got one. Freshly baked! Very subtle tang but the interior was quite fluffy. Overall I'd say it's worth the drive if you're still curious about the offerings here. Not gonna lie these pies particularly would make great additions to a Thanksgiving table. :p read more

I was truly only expecting a few things to be good and the rest ok, like most places have a few star items and the rest are just mediocre but I loved everything we got! Hooverville Orchards is a small family ran orchard in Placerville, CA. It's off the beaten track. It's not on Apple Hill. What it does have is a u-pick rose garden, picnic area, and on-site bakery. In the bakery, they sell seasonal fresh farm grown fruit, baked goods, and jams and jellies. The operation is on a much smaller scale and more traditional low key than Apple Hill. Less hubbub. The small shopfront bakery makes cookies, pies... tons of pies. They sell frozen pies and fresh baked ones on two sizes (6 in and 9 in). They also sell ice cream by the scoop. Pie Al la mode anyone? The woman that helped me in the bakery was the best. She had a great attitude with a bright smile. Even when the shop got busy, she made sure to welcome and engage with everyone. I bought a 6 inch peach & raspberry pie and three jumbo peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. The prices were a bit cheaper or comparable than Apple Hill. The cookies were on the crispier side, good flavors. The pie.... Woo wee it was delicious. The crust was flaky without disintegrating as I sliced my fork through it. The berry mix was the right consistency, no runny mess, and without being toothache achingly sweet. The picnic area is where we sat and ate the cookies. Oops forgot to take pics. We sat under the massive thatched branch canopy. Before you leave, don't forget to check out the rose garden. It's a u-pick, $1 a stem. There are shears available to use. I picked a couple of roses, they bloomed for 5-6 days. My only gripe is the bathroom facility or lack of one. Best fresh fruit and locally made produce. The drive is a little tricky in that you have to maneuver a tight single car road but the produce is totally worth it. My daughter loves the sourdough bread. We come once a month any we've never been disappointed. read more

Wow! This place is a little hidden but so glad I found it!! If you are looking for something to do or a place to visit and you are in the area, this is a must for adults or even families with kids! You will have a blast eating their amazing pies (I love the cherry pie) and their ice cream with berries! I can't say enough, this place is so so good! We got some ice cream with berries and a cherry pie, apple pie and some other fruits! We loved everything and the gentleman there was super helpful and friendly! Enjoyed going to Hooverville Bake Shop. Walked into the bakery and was greeted with a smile from Holly and Jen. I asked for recommendations as there were so many items to choose from. In the end, I left with a pie for that night, along with a frozen pie to bake later, tasty pistachio granola and cookies. If you've driven this stretch of highway 49, you may have noticed an intersection with a side road that has a big sign saying "Fresh Pies!" After driving past this sign many times, this weekend I finally gave into my curiosity and turned down that road. I am so glad I did! They have an incredible selection of pies (and jellies and jams too) all made from fruit they grew themselves. I bought an apple blackberry pie and was blown away at how delicious it tasted. Granted this place is off the beaten path on Hwy 49 between Placerville and Cool but it's so worth going especially on a lovely autumn day. This is our second visit. Our first visit was with the granddaughters and then again last Saturday. I always want to refer to this place as Whoville. lol. I have family that will venture out here to pick peaches and will also pick up frozen pies for neighbors in the Bay Area. One of my niece's neighbors has her pick up frozen pies for her, she then bakes them, and gifts the pie away as something she made. Great idea and why not?! We picked up a frozen apple crumb pie, small blackberry pie, and jar of black cherry jam. We also purchased a slice of apple caramel pie ala mode and shared that in their picnic area. In total, we spent $52. The picnic area has a playground. When we took the grands we couldn't get them off the playground equipment to eat their ice cream. lol. This is a 50-year-old business. Everyone that we have come in contact with has been so nice. The pies are a bit pricey but don't you want quality? This is coming from someone buying pies from Costco. This is a year-round business so I will be back for my homemade pies for my neighbors. lol read more
