In a town like Placerville, I wasn't expecting to find this co-op. I've definitely been on the healthier side of eating these days, and haven't stepped foot into any of the larger grocery chains for awhile. But since we were staying in Placerville for a couple nights, I thought I might have to give up some of that healthy eating. Lo and behold... the Placerville Food Co-op!!!! Organic fruits, vegetables, kombucha on tap (and special kombucha from well known brands), gluten free snacks/frozen foods, oat milk, non-dairy ice cream, organic dog foods, food + fresh pressed juiced bar... oh my heavens, I was in love. We even found gluten free brownies and dairy free chocolates from well known out of state brands. And well-priced. Not to mention, we asked for recommendations on gluten free friendly restaurants and the store clerk came back with a list of 15 restaurants! Was not expecting that. Please support this co-op if you are ever in the town of Placerville. Definitely a hidden gem. read more

We love this place! It used to seem overpriced compared to the other grocery stores but now days they're comparable and sometimes cheaper! What we love is the produce is local the meat is from a reliable source. They have a water ionized machine we get our water from weekly too. Love the staff too! read more

As my first review was removed for mysterious reasons, I will write another one. The round bread that a clerk assured us was "100% organic" contains non-organic buckwheat. I prefer honesty. The store does not offer a great selection of organic food and treats, it was disappointing . As we inquired about an item, another employee kept avoiding us while smiling and replying immediately to another local and familiar customer. We were ignored, discriminated against and received very poor service during our whole time there. I do not recommend this place, and will not return when driving through Placerville. There were other glitches, but Yelp seems to consider that if an opinion does not align with the Narrative, it should be removed. read more

I shop at the Co-op frequently for spices and produce. I used to purchase their homemade soups to go as they were very good, but about five years ago different people began making the soups and since then they haven't been very good. They are very bland with hardly any spices in them. Also, they don't have the selections they used to have. I don't buy them much anymore. read more

Love how small this place is, yet it had everything I needed. I think all stores should be this size. Everyone was very nice and helpful.

1/10/2019: Alright, alright! "Ms. Bumbling Around London UK" wasn't advantageous at the very end of my trip due to the following reasons: 1. I contracted walking pneumonia from a Bloke riding Bus #205 to Paddington Station (The Bloke disembarked at Marylebone Hospital's ER-DOH!) on the way to Heathrow International Airport. 2. At the TSA FRISKING AREA located at Heathrow International Airport: My checked-in Fliek luggage, Tumi handcarry, and Pacsafe Metro Backpack were rifled, rummaged through by the TSA Agents! I searched for my shopping ID Cards in my wallet, backpack, and Tumi handcarry- - -GONE! Waaaah!!!!! I tried going back to the TSA BUT, the TSA Agents wouldn't allow me retrieving my ID Cards! As a result of losing my ID Cards, a chaotic fiasco ensued upon arriving home . . . I couldn't receive my Co-Op 10% Discount after I filled my shopping cart full of organic groceries due to two mishaps: 1. Losing my Co-Op Membership at LHR didn't help at all 2. My phone numbers were transposed incorrectly via Placerville Co-Op's database for their cash registers despite, paying $300.00 for my Co-Op Membership Fee DOH! Cashier, Sera relayed a message to Manager, Victoria who sent me an E-Mail message on 1/11/2019 stating she'd rectify my 10% discount conundrum and send me a replacement ID Card! Waaaah~Sera called me a couple of hours later stating the Co-Op authorized giving me a 10% refund so, stop by and pick up your refund . . . WHOA~So Awesome! WAAAAAH~Thank you so very much for rectifying my lost ID Card conundrum by refunding my 10% discount I should have received on 1/10/2019 and soon, mailing me a new Co-Op ID Card as well! read more

What a cool little store. I worked in a major supermarket all of my adult life and thoroughly enjoyed this gem. Produce kind of skimpy and some great prices, others not so much. The sandwiches were fantastic and a good deal. Will be great for those little day excursions for the ice chest. Nice little selection of craft beer cans I saw and some great cheese selections. Who would have thunk it that little ole Placerville has a food co-op? But they do and it is quite impressive. Well anyway, I was impressed on my first visit. I have been to the downtown Sacramento and Davis food co-ops. So on comparison to those...I was impressed. Right off the bat, I noticed that the parking lot has covered parking with solar panels. How green is that!? Plus the building itself has solar panels. Great! The inside footprint is compact but stocks quite a lot of inventory. They have a salad bar, deli area for made to order food item and fresh pressed juices, organic produce section, bulk foods-grains/nuts/legumes/herbs/spices/teas, snacks, bread, cereals, herbal supplements, homeopathic medicine, personal hygiene products, and makeup...and so much more. I was looking for a particular homeopathic product. The staff helped me search for the product on the shelf and in the back stock. They didn't find it. They even offered to call me back the following day after checking with their manager. Awesome customer service. Great follow through. Friendly bunch. read more

Visited a few days ago for the first time. I didn't have a lot of time (lunch break) to look around, but the produce was beautiful. I got a ton of fresh radishes, a few artichokes, some fresh blackberries and a few more goodies. I also grabbed a tuna sandwich with gluten free bread and veganaise - both of which I normally would have dismissed as gross......LOL, but it was just like a normal sandwich. The bread was a little dry, but no big deal. They have bulk items like flours, sugars, etc, that may be hard to find - same thing with seasonings. I can't wait to go back when I have time to take a good look around. I'm sure there are a lot of hidden treasures! read more

Awesome find in Placerville! My folks happened upon this nearly hidden gem and I demanded they take me there when I visited because I love nice grocery stores. The store is small but very well stocked, with efficient spaces for bulk, health and beauty, produce, and dry goods. They also have an excellent deli/hot food area. And, major props for focusing on local farms! You could pretty much do all your grocery shopping here and be supporting the community--nice! On my trip, I got some fair trade local bulk coffee, bulk goodies like beans (they also have bulk cleaning items!), fresh oranges, local eggs, and delicious cultured butter. They have a decent bread selection as well. I'll return when I visit the area. Also note you don't need to be a member to shop here, but if you choose to join, it is very affordable. read more

Although the prices are higher than most natural food stores, the quality is far better. Most of the vegetables are from local farms(and organic) so I don't mind paying the premium. Co-op is my go to while farmers markets aren't going on or if I can't make it out to them. The sierra Honey is amazing. The only somewhat redeeming quality is they have Raw Milk, which is by far the most over-priced in the area. But, we have also been sold Raw Milk that was poorly refrigerated and sour. We took it back without an issue. They have nothing special here. I prefer Sunrise Natural Foods. read more

Placerville is becoming a delightful scavenger hunt for green places, organic markets, massage therapists and soap & candle stores. Yes indeed, the famed Hangtown, is becoming a bit gentler toward the world and its citizens in its older years, and I think I like that. As you pull up under the solar-paneled parking structure, and gaze at even more solar panels on the roof of Noah's Ark, you already know you've found yet another little gem of Placerville's up and coming green/forward-thinking movement. Once inside, you find a well spaced health food store, that smells pleasantly of pesto, and is well-staffed by friendly, helpful, and good-looking people. Strengths seem to be vitamins/supplements, local honey, and dry goods. Weaknesses are varying freshness of organic produce, and a relatively small bulk goods section. This store presents a desperately needed option in the area for purchasing organic products. Plus, it's a good spot to know about if you're just passing through on your way up to Tahoe, for stocking up on healthy snacks before you hit the slopes/trails. Sure it's pricier than Hangtown Safeway, but wouldn't you rather support Greentown Noah's? read more

Unfortunately for the owners this establishment, they lost at least two local customers Today, if not more. I'm assuming the other customer was local. There are just somethings that I feel should be standard knowledge. Like your products. I have yet to ask a question that they had the answer to. Ater spending $170 their last week and another $80 this week. When asked if I was an owner I told her "no. And as long as they continued to enforce the mask wearing policy, I would continue not being an owner." but would continue to shop their. ...As I walked out I saw the lady behind me didn't have a mask on, as she explained the clerk, doing her job, that she couldn't wear one because of a health condition, if they would sell her the item she was purchasing. apparently they declined to. I Watched her clearly and verbally leave upset and empty handed, as I loaded my car. Today they lost my business, as well. read more

My favorite part about the Natural Food Co-op in Placerville is it is the only place I can buy the most amazing gluten-free bread made by "Yarrs Yours". Due to my health issues I need to go gluten-free and this is the yummiest bread I have ever eaten, it is so healthy and delicious! Good service there, but man-- the prices are wayyyyyy higher than any other place. I went there to get organic cranberry juice which was over $12 at their shop and said, wow, too expensive. Then I went to Raley's and they had the same thing for $7. What is the reason for these huge markups and why would anyone pay for this? Another time I needed a tomato and one tomato was $6. Nature biscuits and health nuts rejoice. I have been coming to the co-op for a while now. When you pull up, you'll see the solar array in the front of the building and on the roof of the parking area. The lot is relatively small, but it hasn't been an issue yet. Upon entering the co-op, you'll see a few check outlines near the door and the goodness beyond. They have a great selection of drinks to include a quality beer selection and a bunch of tasty kombucha. Produce is fresh and plentiful and I like that they make an effort to have plenty of local products like wine and olive oil. Great selection of pasture eggs as well. They also have a hot bar that receives quite a bit of traffic. I haven't tried the food yet, but I hear good things about it. They have a small selection of frozen meats, but I would love to see more. Remedies and supplements take up quite a bit of the real estate as well. When checking out, they'll always ask if you're a member of the co-op; at this time I am not, but I probably will pretty soon. Truthfully, I'm not sure if the benefits of membership justify the cost, but I do want to support the operation in general. I like this place. read more

This store has the most friendly staff. Very knowledgeable too. I have shopped for natural remedies for headaches, allergies, colds, flu, etc here and have had great results. I do not like to take OTC Pharmacy remedies. Kaiser Permanente now has their literature stress the benefits of some natural remedies (for a sore throat-try the Coop's apple cider vinegar, the Coop's honey and hot water....gargle or drink.). You will be so impressed with their deli.....love their homemade veggie burger and their Faken Bacon with Avocado, Lettuce and tomato sandwich. Their cold case is filled with freshly made sandwiches right there on the spot. I can not resist the desserts. Unusual juice bar. There always is something here --exotic soups for instance--that you have not seen before. BIG frozen food selection too. Produce is Nirvana. Bulk Bins--Coop has items you never ever see in the grocery store bins. Bought some hair products that I really like. Check the end caps for sale items or samples. At first I thought you had to be a member of the Coop to shop here....but you do not. Anyone can shop here. And they are better than any area veggie restaurant or veggie grocery store. read more
