But for those who like wine, one type of IPA and margaritas, they had some special specials on those drinks. And on the food, can't remember what they really had besides the Mac and cheese dumplings, which I have never heard of, but I was ready to explore. So I ordered the dumplings with the cheese dipping sauce and they were OK. Not really my thing and I don't know if I will order them again per se but they were OK in my opinion. The vibe inside is so cool, chill hip hop music playing throughout and I genuinely added about five songs to my music library before we even finished eating. That kind of atmosphere is hard to find. The food was incredible. I ordered the buffalo chicken tenders with waffles and everything about it was perfect. The tenders were crispy and glazed beautifully in buffalo sauce. The waffle was not your average waffle, it had this wheat cinnamon style to it that made it stand out, soft, fluffy and absolutely delicious. It came with butter and what I believe was an herb butter as well and whatever it was it was incredible. My fiancé ordered eggs Andy style, scrambled with bacon and toast, and the real standout on his plate were the potatoes. Crushed style, perfectly seasoned with what tasted like brown sugar and paprika. We are still talking about those potatoes. Service was amazing and the whole experience just felt effortless and fun. If you are in the Lower East Side and looking for an incredible brunch spot with amazing food and even better vibes, Sweet Chick is the one. Do not sleep on this place.

So when they opened the Ludlow Street location, I was excited because now I didn't have to make the trip to Brooklyn every time I wanted my chicken and waffles. Back then, Sweet Chick was an experience. They had the big specials board with rotating waffles, desserts, and seasonal items. Their chicken and waffles never missed. I honestly can't remember ever leaving disappointed. So this review is really hard for me. Back on June 26th, after work, my mom and I decided to grab dinner. I work in the LES, and she suggested Sweet Chick. I did tell her my brother Robert had gone recently and said it had changed a lot, but we figured we'd see for ourselves. We got there around 9-ish. The first thing we noticed... It was HOT. Not warm. Hot. Like, "why does it feel like a sauna in here?" hot. We've had enough hot weather this summer, so walking into a restaurant with little to no air conditioning was honestly uncomfortable. We actually debated leaving before we even ordered, but decided to stick it out. Unfortunately... it never got better. The service also wasn't what I remembered. I'm really big on customer service, and Sweet Chick has always had amazing service whenever I've gone. This time it just felt different. The attentiveness wasn't there, and the overall vibe just felt... off. Even the menu has changed. My mom used to love their kale salad, but now it's made differently with things like dates, and she wasn't interested in it anymore. I remember getting three or four different flavored butters, each in their own little container. This time we got two flavors together in one cup. It's a small thing, but it was one of those details that always made Sweet Chick feel special. My mom ordered the Carolina BBQ Chicken with the Grilled Corn Waffle. I'll be fair--her waffle absolutely tasted like a corn waffle. I tried it, and it was really good. She enjoyed her meal more than I did, although she also had a few pieces of chicken that weren't evenly coated with sauce and were a little dry. Overall, she thought it was okay. And I think that's really the word for this visit. Okay. Not terrible. But not the Sweet Chick we remembered. Maybe that's why this visit hit me so hard. They also brought out an enormous loaf of fresh-baked Asiago bread with butter -- way more than two people needed, but damn, it was good. Both came out within minutes of ordering. We also ordered the cherry-smoked Old Fashioneds, and they were fantastic. Probably one of the best things we had all night. The presentation was really impressive: instead of simply smoking the glass, the cocktail arrived inside a glass box filled with smoke. The server placed it in front of us and we opened the door ourselves, letting the smoke roll out around the drink. Really cool presentation, and the cocktail tasted every bit as good as it looked. The problem? It took nearly 30 minutes to get them. They were so good I absolutely would have ordered a second round, but after waiting that long for the first one, we weren't willing to chance it. Instead, we were being seated in a loud bar with red lighting, TVs on the walls and a table just feet from the bar. When we explained that our reservation was for Double Cut, we were told it was the same menu and that if we didn't sit there, we would have to wait considerably longer. So we sat. And frankly, that pretty much took the air out of the evening. Brian had planned a nice, romantic birthday dinner for me. Instead, we were sitting in a bar booth while he tried not to watch the baseball game playing on the TVs. It felt more like sitting in the bar area of a Chili's -- except without the Chili's hospitality or Chili's prices. Even the person who delivered our steak simply asked us to cut into it, said "enjoy," and walked away. No smile. No warmth. Completely transactional. Needless to say, we didn't stay for birthday dessert. We ate what we had ordered, paid the bill and left. The frustrating part is that the kitchen and bar are clearly doing a lot right. The food was genuinely very good, and that cherry-smoked Old Fashioned was outstanding. But at this price point, you're not just paying for a steak and a great cocktail.
