We rented the hall for a large 400 person wedding…read moreand since we live in New Jersey, we not only had to deal with the complications of long distance planning but we had the extra difficult task of trying to get a hold of anyone capable of answering our questions. We chose Cedars Hall because there are not many venues in the Twin Cities that can fit a wedding that large. It also helped that my sister had gotten married there 5 years ago so we were familiar with the layout and location. Unfortunately, over the last 5 years, many things have changed. The rules and regulations are clearly written out but when speaking with the event manager himself, we found that a lot of these rules and regulations seemed to change depending on his preferred working hours. For example, the rental regulations and policies clearly state that "Delivery of food is allowed only during the times of 10am to 4pm." We found in the days leading up to the wedding that on Saturday (Wedding Day), we would not have access to the Hall at all until 4pm. Why that was exactly seemed to be more due to the lack of personnel willing to work on that Saturday. So in the last few days leading up to the wedding, we had to call our caterer, the bakery that was delivering the wedding cake and the liquor store to change all their delivery times to past 4pm on Saturday. In addition, because we only had the hall for 4 hours for decoration purposes, we asked Cedars Hall to provide us with "people who they'd used for decoration help in the past". We paid them close to $20 per person per hour only to find on that Friday that the helpers provided included the event manager's wife and his daughter, including a few other people who clearly were there just to earn an easy $20 per hour. One of the person who was supposedly "helping" us even went so far as to yell at my mother because she asked them to do something instead of standing around. A few of my friends and family who were there to help actually asked me if it was possible to "fire" some of the hired help. Unfortunately, we paid upfront for the help. What really upset me as the bride was my inability to get a hold of the event manager at Cedars Hall. I called his office phone, his cell phone and emailed him over the course of a week and never received either a call back or an email answering any of my questions (keep in mind, I was doing all the planning 1200 miles away). Finally, my dad took the drastic measure of driving over and stalking around the grounds until someone told him that no one was there over Memorial weekend. This person then called the event manager who finally was able to answer our most urgent answer of when we could have access to the hall for decoration purposes. The following Tuesday when we flew in, we drove directly to Cedars Hall as clearly that was the only way to get a hold of anyone there and further clarified everything from where the band would be set up to whether we'd have access to any of the other rooms for changing purposes. Lastly, in spite of the regulation clearly stating that bottles of champagne "are allowed outside of the bar area for wedding champagne toasts only. The Lessee, or his agent, must provide AND serve the champagne." When we pressed on this issue again and again, we were told that we had two options: 1) Either every single guests at the wedding would have to bring their glass up to the bar to have champagne poured there or 2) they would have to close the bar for however long it took for the two bartenders to come around and pour champagne at the tables. This is clearly in spite of their written policy that states that we were to provide the champagne and serve it. I would NOT recommend to anyone planning a wedding or a large event to consider Cedars Hall. I could not have had a worse experience. The event manager there only cares about collecting your money. Once they have your 50% deposit, they could not care less how your event goes. Weddings are some of the biggest and most expensive events in life and Cedars Hall managed to make it absolute nightmare for us. As the bride, I weathered every single one of these issues as well as possible but I know that most brides would probably have broken down in tears and/or threatened legal action for breach of contract. Either way, be forewarned and just DON'T fall in the same trap I did.

The crumblesome stone walls offset the highly modern feel of the rest of the plaza. The three, rustic, arched, little niches at the one side kept the word "oubliette" pacing 'round my head all night. The upstairs bathrooms, by the bar, are WAY NICER than the rather decrepit ones by the reception hall... truly the only strong disappointment of the night. The fact that we were able to take the skywalk from our hotel was the cherry on the whipped cream on the chocolate sauce on the ice cream. Not that the wedding served ice cream. That would've been SWEET!

There is a lot of noise in the ceremony room from above due to foot traffic in the old building and a popular restaurant being above the ceremony room. The reception area is very attractive and looks beautiful especially with uplighting. The staff needs a lot of work...weddings should be fun and personable but the staff is often times in fact rude nor do they have respect for the minor details as shown in the example of the men's room in the picture I posted.

The food---I had steak and others had the chicken and fish and one vegetarian had pasta...the feedback on all of it was not that good! These plates are all right around 32-38 per plate so at that price you would expect delicious food. I think the quality of the food was there and it had more to do with the preparation vs. the product itself. The staff was a little snippy with the wedding party in the afternoon when one asked if there was anyway possible they could get coffee or water--apparently this is a money making business and that was not part of the deal so they were shut down with a curt response of No-but nice try!!!! The open bar selection was boring and standard--and the glassware was not upscale. I would have expected a martini glass to be available and perhaps a few more exotic liquors and mixers just for fun. These are all areas that you can address beforehand if you choose to use this as your venue --I feel like if you are aware of some of this it can easily be enhanced for a five star experience.

It was nice for the wedding party to be able walk down & then have a pause (with doors closed) as the bride stepped up for her entrance. The reception was then held inside the big barn building just off to the side from the ceremony. The space was large with wooden tables & chairs set up for guests. Although we didn't use it, there was a firepit next to the building for use as well! Drinks & appetizers were served before the reception started at the side barn building. It was just a few feet away from the main reception. My favorite though, was the barn space that was first seen when entering the venue from the parking lot. Our friends had opted to utilize it for photos to put inside the guest book! Overall, a cute venue. Since I was a guest, I don't know any of the logistics of touring / reserving the space but my friend (the bride) did say that they're booked up pretty much every weekend!
