Gentle care -- they actually spoke to the patient other hospice interviewers spoke to the family members, ignoring the patient sitting in the room-- our loved one passed on after five days with Hope in the manner he was promised--this is from our experience in the winter of 2020. Some of the more current reviews are troubling. I would-today-be hesitant to use them unless I had numerous backup numbers etc and knew their backup pharmacy. Roughly 3 hrs 50 minutes into Hope Hospice and the promised comfort medication not only have not been delivered, but a call to the 24-hour team couldn't locate them. So there is literally no hope of compassionate, comfort care with this hospice. So disappointing. **Updated timeline:** Medical transport arrived at 1750. Met with Hope's representative just prior to my mother's arrival. Started signing paperwork. Comfort medications weren't ordered until roughly 1930 hrs. Was told 2-4 hours to be delivered. The medications weren't delivered until 0030 hours (roughly 6.5 hours after arrival of the hospice patient, and 5 hours after they were ordered). Hope's representative was apologetic, which I appreciate, and I heard from a home health aide provider that she works with Hope and they are usually very good. However; something is not right with their pharmacy - which is a very important component to comfort care and home hospice. The meds should be ordered earlier in my opinion and from a more reliable pharmaceutical partner. Ask Hope (now that I know to ask, I'd ask every hospice provider) who is their pharmacy? If it is OnePoint, I'd pass and keep looking. read more

The care my mom received was excellent. Gladys, Joyce, Nancy, Chloe and the aide were wonderful. Social worker Emily was also great. The reason for 4 stars has to do with the doctor's processing of my paid family leave form. He refused to sign the form electronically, which is the quickest way for the EDD to start processing a claim. Instead, he signed the paper form, two times not filling it out correctly, resulting in a long delay in me receiving pay. I asked to have it electronically signed but was told by staff members that he refuses to do it that way and that he does not want to be bothered registering with the EDD. My claim is FINALLY being processed, nearly 2 months after my mom entered hospice care (and a month after she passed away). Being with my mom during the last few weeks of her life and grieving her death in itself have been tough, but not being paid and having to deal with an incomplete EDD claim has added an extra level of unnecessary stress and worry. Had the doctor simply signed the form electronically I would have been paid long ago. I recommend Hope hospice for the compassionate care but just know that if you are filing for paid family leave you may not see any pay for a long while. And the EDD is a nightmare to deal with when there are errors with your claim. read more

If I can give zero stars I would. My loved one died five days after being taken into Hope Hospice's care. And they made each day hell. The admission nurse was grossly incompetent and negligent; he made significant errors that ultimately cost my LO their life. The nurses were nonchalant, non-communicative with the family, and would just flat out... lie. The care provided was the bare minimum. It's like they pride themselves on exploiting the vulnerable and find pleasure in giving you the runaround. Hope reflects literally everything that is wrong with healthcare in America. I wish we would've gone with another hospice as it's evident Hope only views those in their care as just a number. There is no humanity and no empathy. I regret using Hope Hospice and would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere for your loved one. read more

Ultimately very dissapointed in their service. At times they were helpfull but most often, not. There was no consistency in who helped my mom. There was a lot of turnover in the company and poor communication when it would happen. When my mom passed, they took their bed that they provided that same day which was a shock to my dad and just added to his grief. They couldn't wait a day? I wouldn't recommend. read more

We used this hospice service after getting lots of recommendations for it. Our experience with Hope Hospice was very good. It was fully covered under my family member's Medicare plan. I recommend to keep your family member at home rather than a nursing home if you can. They have a 24 hour phone line and someone picks up within 30 seconds to get a nurse to you within an hour. As often as you may need visits. If you feel like you need the nurse more often, just request it. They seemed to allow whatever requests we needed. We had our family member at home having other family members be there at all times doing care. The nurses gave advice, tips, and showed up to do bed baths and administer trickier medications. They were very nice and knowledgeable, always showing up on time. Remember, you still may have to advocate for what your family member would have wanted but maybe can no longer verbalize. If you want to keep them on certain medications, just ask. If you think you need to increase the dose, just ask. If you need more frequent visits, just ask. They were accomodating for our family member. read more

More Like "No Hope Hospice" Kaiser couldn't get here today and felt like she needed care asap which I trusted. Kaiser contracts with No Hope and here we are. We would have been better off waiting until tomorrow. The agreed upon plan with the Intake RN was to start with one med, possibly another, neither of which have been delivered. This is a review for the grief support team- After I lost my father I tried to find a "good" therapist or support within kaiser with no luck at all. A family friend suggested hope hospice. From the moment I called I was treated so wonderfully. Arlene the grief group administrator was such a calming presence in a very terrible time. She was so gracious and I really felt like she listened and truly cares about people. I joined the group and it was something I didn't think I would benefit from at first, but as the weeks went on it did help me feel less alone. I can't say enough about the people at hope hospice and for Arlene. It is difficult to find genuinely kind hearted people who take the time to help you and walk you through hard times. Special people make up hospice workers, including everyone in the office that make a place like this run well. Currently taking Living with Dementia classes to be a better support to others close to me that are dealing with this issue. This week's class was completely filled which shows one how many people are seeking help as caregivers. I hope as many people as possible are able to avail themselves to similar support; one does not need to go through these terrible situations alone. About 4 years ago, Hope Hospice was wonderful as we went through our first (sadly not the last) end of life care. Cancer sucks. Let's face it...when you need hospice for a loved one, it is not a happy time. We want to do our best to choose the right level of care and the right people. My mother has severe Dementia and that adds another level of necessity, to choose the correct people to help. I wanted people who had experience with this horrid disease. I wanted people who would care for my mother as they would there own, I found the right people when I chose Hope. Mom's doctor referred us to them and to say that their response was fast; doesn't do them justice. They called me the same day and the next day, a nurse was at our home. Now, it can be a little dizzying at first. You get "hit" with a barrage of nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains and case managers. But once the "dust" settles, you have a TEAM of people who are just a phone call away. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now, because of Hope and a rock star caregiver, Mom and Dad, who have been married for 55 years, can stay together, in their own home and we can face this challenge as a family. read more

When you seek hospice services, you PRAY they will be good. After all, this is one of the most important services you'll ever hire. Fortunately, Hope Hospice will serve your needs. While we had a dedicated social worker, there were always back up helpers available. I called when the breathing machine wasn't working perfectly, when it was time for a hospital bed, when meds needed adjusting and with questions about many other things. My calls were answered quickly with courtesy and effective solutions. I felt entirely supported and confident we were giving my "momish" the best care possible. I called once to request a shower between scheduled appointments. They reminded me we only had 2 visits scheduled per week and suggested we wait a few days until the next scheduled service. I explained that we didn't know if she would still be around for the next visit and a caregiver was there within an hour. "Momish" chose the "Death with Dignity" program, recently legalized in California for terminally ill patients. Since it's new, no one has much experience with this process. Hope Hospice helped us navigate the paperwork, interviews and pharmacist visit. When we needed the coroner, they arranged it immediately with compassion. I appreciate Kaiser recommending Hope Hospice, would use the service again if needed and would encourage anyone to hire this service provider. The situation won't be easy or fun, but will be far better with experienced, effective service from Hope Hospice. read more

I had used hospice for my dad and it was horrid..a different county. I have nothing but good things to say about the care my mom received. The admission was picture perfect, durable medical equipment was delivered within 2 hours. she went picked up the meds and was back within an hour. ( sorry cant remember name) Karen was her RN. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, caring and honest. She is a Rockstar! Sara was the CNA. Again fantastic. Caring. gentle and professional. Thank you all for the fantastic care. Hope Hospice was my late husband's first hospice. He died of Lewy body dementia associated with Parkinsons and received 3 years of hospice care, Hope in Lafayette and then Hospice by the Bay in Napa. Everyone at Hope was kind, compassionate, competent and very resourceful. Collabria in Napa refused to take him because of his diagnosis, they cherry pick the patients who will need the fewest services and make them the most money which is illegal for a nonprofit. He died under the care of Hospice by the Bay, who worked very hard for 2 years to keep him safe and comfortable. Spread the word that DEMENTIA is a qualifying Medicare diagnosis, and there is no limit on the length of service. Thanks to hospice my husband died in peace. read more

The initial visit and discussion went well. Once my dad was placed in the nursing home for long term care under hospice, things didn't go so well. The nurse was cavalier about his fall, she said "It's okay, these things will happen.". They frequently complained to me that he was "non compliant", because he didn't want to take the morphine they were trying to give him, and he had different ideas about his care. One of the aides who came to shave and bathe him did a great job, but the other aide would not bathe him properly and complained to people at the nursing home that he was being mean to her when he asked her for a slightly longer shower. They would not allow him to walk around the corridor with assistance, because walking was "physical therapy" and was not allowed under hospice. When he had a second fall and injured his only good arm, they did nothing to help him, because they were not allowed to give him any treatment. It was very difficult to watch him suffer, and spend his last days in poor quality of life. read more

It took me a long time to finally write this review, because I never leave reviews and it's been so hard to think about, but I'd like other families to have this review so that they can incorporate it into their own hospice decisions. Choosing a hospice is an overwhelming and nerve-racking experience, since it's one of the last decisions in a loved one's medical care so of course you don't want to make the wrong decision with something so vital to the quality of their final days. Unfortunately, my family and I made the mistake of using Hope Hospice for my father's care. We interviewed several hospices, and were blown away by the thoroughness and professionalism of the initial home visit. It was all downhill after that. We had nurses make insensitive remarks about our situation to my family in front of my father, with one nurse, upon learning that our mother passed from cancer, asking "How did your dad and his wife both get cancer? Did they work in a factory or live near a chemical plant?" in a bizarrely joking tone. Obviously, nobody is more upset about the unfortunate coincidence than he is, so why make comments like that in front of a clearly suffering man? Another nurse would talk to me about my dad's care and completely ignore him and exclude him from the conversation. She actually asked me, "Is it okay if he's here for this [conversation]?" and I said "What? Of course, it's his care you're talking about!" He wasn't comatose, he was as awake, alert, and communicative as I was. They didn't treat him with the dignity and autonomy he deserves in his most vulnerable time. Rather, he it felt impersonal and like he was just a job, not a person. Among other incidents later into his care, they neglected to tell us that we needed to be sure to move him every few hours to avoid bedsores, so he began developing them. They also didn't tell us that they could give us mini-sponges to wet his dry mouth when he complained about it but was too weak to drink (despite us asking if there was anything we could do, and after we asked for the sponges the nurse on duty seemed surprised we didn't already have them and immediately gave them to us, so I know it wasn't withheld for health reasons). If I didn't have a friend who is a nurse come by I wouldn't have known to ask for those things. Throughout the whole time, my stress was made worse by not knowing if the hospice nurses were telling me all that I needed to know, or if there was anything else that I should know that could make my father more comfortable. Our care only improved after I called the hospice to complain and ask about switching to a different service. I spoke to a higher up, and she apologized and made a note of all the incidents and assured me it wouldn't happen again and that she would send one of her "best nurses". For the next day or so (he passed soon after my call) we had a lovely nurse who was compassionate, knowledgeable, and patient. Why couldn't we have had that from the beginning? You only get one chance at a loved one's final days, so there is a lot of pressure when committing to a specific hospice. It's depressing that such a sad time was made even worse by this hospice, and that I have to add the regret from that decision to my grief. If I could redo things, I would choose a different hospice or at least have double checked everything they told me from the start and not been so trusting. read more

My wife was given 6 months to live back in April 2016. There was NO way that she was going to live her finale days out in the hospital. I contacted Hope Hospice and they helped me get her home to enjoy her final days in comfort , friends, family and familiar surroundings. My wife normally did not take to doctors at all ( she hated them with a passion). When Nurse Karen came to met with her I was very surprised that she took to her right away and the same for the home health aid Donna. It was like they were long lost best friends. They were both available any time that i needed them or for support. they made her time left so much more enjoyable.The support group in my opinion went well above in order to help me with the Family leave and other paper work. Hope Hospice was recommended to me by my father's insurance company when we were looking for end stage care for him. Before I even signed him up, I called Hope Hospice to inquire about their services and practices and knew right off the bat that this is exactly who I wanted to care for my father. They spend almost 1 hour with me answering all of my questions with such patience and made sure that I understood how hospice works. They were very informative. I cannot say enough great things about Hope Hospice. They were very respectful of the family's and my father's wishes, so professional with everything they did, and extremely compassionate. They were also very accommodating and timely with everything my father needed from medication to extra supplies to make him more comfortable; even in the off hours or weekends, we were still able to get everything we needed to make my father comfortable. No matter what time of day I called, I always spoke with a live person and no matter who I spoke with, the individual was helpful, kind, and professional (they never made me feel like I was bothering them). My father's nurse was Julie. She was very attentive to my father's needs and always answered my calls to help me with anything I needed or any questions I had. She rushed over to the house when we saw signs that my father was passing and stayed as long as we needed her. My father did not want to suffer in his passing and Julie made sure that he was comfortable. Hope Hospice provided truly exceptional care for my father and made the family feel safe having my father in their care. During such a difficult time, Hope Hospice was a God send. While my father suffered immensely with his illnesses before we enrolled him in hospice, Hope Hospice made his last days comfortable and our family couldn't be more grateful. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review yet...2 years ago when my Mom was told she was at the end of her battle with COPD, she was frightened to say the least. She lived with us, but we work full time. None of us had the financial means to place my mom in full-time care, nor did she/we want that. We wanted her last months to be at home. With her cat, her photographs, her tv programs that she LOVED, her COFFEE (she only drank french roast) and most of all with her family. She was so afraid of suffering in the end. THANK GOD for Hope Hospice!!! They came in with everything covered and I mean everything from volunteers that offer massages, people that offer spiritual support who help you come to terms with the end of life, to social workers that help you make arrangements after your loved ones pass...they help with everything...even with support after your loved one passes. We had the most amazing nurse Dara, and aide Sonia who came every week, a few times a week to check on Mom. I can't explain what Angels they were. My Mom loved them, and they genuinely cared for her in return. In the final days, they were by our sides. I didn't have to worry about anything outside of being by my Mom's side. Dara was there until my Mom's last breath. She helped me get through that time more than I can ever express. And made all the calls to the mortuary, collected all my Mom's medicine, helped me with the equipment return throughout the next couple of days...they take care of everything, all while remaining sensitive and compassionate. I will NEVER forget this group of amazing people...HOPE Hospice were heaven sent, from the bottom of our heart we recommend them to anyone in need. They are the only group I'll donate to.
