I was stooped over, bending sideways to the right, moaning, grunting with each step that I took, and holding myself up with a cane. Dr. Shinnaman began with accupuncture. The first needle that he inserted into my back hurt so much that I almost screamed, but by the sixth needle, I was able to tolerate the pain. By the end of the day, my sciatica had significantly subsided. Dr. Shinnaman does not just push pills to manage my pain. Over the course of the next several weeks, he continued to treat me with accupuncture and injections. By the third time that I saw him, I was almost pain free. I'm able to sleep again, walk upright again, and I'm not grunting and moaning with excruciating pain with every step that I take. I'm still seeing Dr. Shinnaman to complete my course of treatment, but he's giving me my life back. I've been treated by another back physician, but his two rounds of injections had done nothing. Even one of the best neurosurgeon at UCSF said, "this is exactly what you need". Go see him if you are in pain and nothing seems to have worked.

We were scheduled to have a procedure completed and a payment was collected. On February 17, we had a change of heart and cancelled said procedure. I was clearly told that the refund would be processed, yet it is now June and I still have not received the money or a clear explanation for the delay. Over the past several months, communication has been inconsistent and unprofessional. I have had to repeatedly follow up for updates, only to receive vague responses or no resolution at all. A medical clinic should operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability, especially when handling patients' finances. While the staff may have initially appeared helpful, failing to honor a promised refund for this long is unacceptable. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this clinic to carefully review financial policies and documentation before making payments. As far as communication, I am very disappointed with the level of communication and professionalism from this clinic. Since February, I have called on seven different occasions and left multiple voicemails requesting a call back from the manager regarding my unresolved refund issue. To this day, I have not received a single response. Management ignoring repeated attempts to communicate with patients is unacceptable, especially when it involves a significant amount of money owed. I expected better customer service, accountability, and transparency from a professional medical office. I hope the clinic takes responsibility and resolves this matter promptly.

It made a very stressful situation so much easier knowing I was in such capable hands. I especially want to recognize Dani for going so far above and beyond with the billing support. She put in so much extra work behind the scenes, and I truly appreciate all the time, patience, and dedication she and Ginger gave to helping resolve everything. My medical care truly could not have happened without their support, and it has been life-changing for me. A huge thank you as well to Sarah for making sure we were scheduled for the procedure and helping everything come together smoothly and on time. Her help made the entire process seamless. This team truly cares about their patients, and it shows in every interaction. I am beyond thankful for all of their help and highly recommend this office.

While my appointment went well, the standard insurance paper work for a cortisone shot (the most common intervention other than pain meds) was rejected, and no one from the office followed up. There were no follow up notes after my appointment for next steps. My primary seemed very surprised that this routine procedure was denied which makes me suspect that they didn't do the minimal paperwork required. When you call 'the office', you reach someone at the main switchboard who presumably passes on a message which may or may not be returned. In my case, it was not even though I requested that they resubmit the paperwork. Keep in mind that many many people reaching out to a pain management doctor are in excruciating, debilitating pain. When I finally went in, I was barely able to walk and had to lie down during the appointment due to the extreme pain. Currently, I'm repeatedly leaving messages at the switchboard attempting to try to get my cortisone shot months after all medical staff I met with agreed that it was necessary. If you are in an acute, debilitating situation with your pain, I'd recommend you seek someone who runs a more responsive office.

You would have a better chance to get in to see the president. I got a referral. Did everything right. Called. The lady who answers the phone is uber friendly by calling me babe, sweets, sugar and love tells me she never got the referral (even though I am holding the referral in my hand). I have to call back my doctor and ask for the referral again. So I oblige. She also says (in between the constant calling me sugar and sweetie and honey) that I need an MRI within the last year or he won't see me. I have MRI's probably from 2 years ago but whatever. I say I have MRIs and I can email them to her. NOPE. They don't do email because she's too busy to I guess look at email. She wants me to fax her. So she has time for a fax but not email. Not sure what that's about. This is 2026. Not 1986. All this entire time she continually called me honey, and love and sugar and sweets and every other kind of loving nickname you can think of. She doesn't know me at all and yet somehow she thinks this is ok. I am not a Karen BTW. Call me whatever it is you want, but at least help me by doing your job. I got the referral. I got the MRI. I have had pain in my back for 14 years and just need someone to help me. Instead I get "sugar pies" and love dumplings" and "no I am too busy" to look at email. So, yea. I would love to get rid of my pain and leave a wonderful review for Dr. Magimbi who sound fantastic, but your person screening calls seems more interested and calling your clients love muffin and making it damn near impossible to see you.

You then get an operator who can never help you. Her job is to transfer you. You have been on hold for a 1/2hour because they claim the scheduling department does NOT have a direct line. Sometimes the operator misdirects your call thus after you sit listening to Muzak for a 2nd 1/2hour, you are redirected again so you can again listen to Muzak for a 3rd 1/2 hour. After one-and-a-half hours on hold you will be given a procedure date (many months in the future) but will not be given a time until the afternoon before. Like others have said, there is a huge amount of paperwork to fill out ahead of time, which I don't mind if it's going to be a thorough appointment. Though the receptionist on the phone for scheduling was incredibly rude, I was pleasantly surprised that I got to see an online provider pretty quickly because my referral was marked as urgent. I saw Dr Alice Huai-Yu Li who was very nice, and who let me know personally ahead of time that she was running late which I appreciated. But she did absolutely nothing for me at the appointment, except refer me to pain psychology. It was supposed to be a long intake appointment but it was cut very short. She said they rarely get patients in my situation and she had researched injections for my type of pain but there was nothing they could do for it. I also have sensitivities to many antidepressants, which was ultimately all she wanted to prescribe for me. My referring doctors were hopeful because Stanford pain clinic is supposed to be doing all kinds of interesting procedures and treatments for pain, but I was not offered anything. The pain management class was a one time thing, and it was interesting though not much of a solution for me. I was also referred to a pain psychologist, which was really far booked out, and then they cancelled it before I ever got to go because the "provider wasn't available." So It was a disappointing experience overall and a serious waste of my time. Maybe people with other pain conditions than I have are offered better options.
