An incredible place for Mom. Regena worked tirelessly to help us place Mom at Hopewell. The most compassionate, caring, and loving staff. They were instrumental in giving Mom peace and serenity so she could finally let go and pass from this world. Special shoutout to Rose who had such an incredible, spiritual sense about her ... we knew Mom was in good hands. I can't recommend Hopewell enough. I am a nurse and words cannot express my gratitude for Hopewell House, their amazing staff and volunteers. My mother received more love and compassion from their care at the end of her life, then at any other point. Our whole family felt supported and cared for. Excellent nursing care from their nurses and CNAs. I was able to go back to work feeling confident in their competent and loving care. They bring the hospital beds out to the garden!! Working in a hospital myself, that alone really touched my heart because who wants to be stuck in a hospital room? Such respect and love was given when my mom passed. My mother even like the food there, which says a lot. She was such a picky eater. Eternally grateful for Hopewell House Beyond 5 stars. My sweet Mother in Law spent her final days here, when her care became too much for the family at home. The first night we were met by Jackie (and her sweet pup Fonda!), who was just superb. She made us feel we were making the right decision for Mom. We breathed a sigh of relief that she was receiving such excellent and caring help. The hospice itself is just beautiful and serene - not sure why you wouldn't want to spend your final hours here. It was a comfortable environment for all of us who were with her here. My grandma is currently staying here. It is a sad time but the staff has been so compassionate. The enviornment here is somber and cozy. I work in healthcare as a caretaker and my best friend stayed here in his last days. the place was clean and it seamed nice at first. they even had a room where family members could stay that had beds and a shower. unfortunalty the problem here was with patient care. specifically pain management. If your loved one is dying from any ailment that involves pain, definitely do not send your loved one here. my friend was dying from cancer and spent his last four days of his life here. he was in tremendous pain and they refused to increase his pain meds. we asked them why and they wouldn't give any reason. everytime we asked if they could give him an emergency dose they would hesitate and many times even refuse leaving my friend in pain which he rated a 9 out of ten when we asked them to page the oncall doctor we could hear him yelling at the nurse " why are you calling me!!" as if he didn't want to deal with his dying patients. one night they had even ran out of morphine in the whole place so all the patients on morphine were either in complete pain or switched to something less effective. In my friends very last day. he was unable to communicate and his only way to voice anything was to force a quick slight movement. well we could tell he was in extreme pain by his face gesture and so we begged the nurse to give him another dosing. she looked at him and said he doesn't look like he is in pain and refused. we then asked our friend to please move your finger if you need more pain meds so he did. she claimed she didn't see it. so then he shook his leg. which is the most movement I had seen from him in his last days and after that she still hesitated and finally gave him more medicine. I thought this was a isolated case. unfortunate to say after talking to other people who have had family members stay here. it appears to be an ongoing problem. I could go on for days about their lack of pain management but this review would never end. as a caretaker I would have to say that I would never wish for my patients or loved ones to have to spend their last days here. I would never wish it upon anyone. no amount of ice cream with chocolate sauce would change my mind. if I could give this place negative stars I definitely would read more

I am extremely GRATEFUL to all of HOPEWELL house. My 87 year old mother spent the last week of her life there. Her caregivers were extraordinary and she was made very comfortable and watched very closley. I was welcome to be there as much as I wanted to, even allowed a bed in her room to be with her. She had a beautiful death there. I was blown away at how well they care for the family of the dieng . I was supported and cared for as well. Beond the excellent care, the place itself is peacefull The respect level & dignity allotted to the dieing process was heartwarming. The surronds of nature & gardens lends a calming tone as well. Every day I would see another elderly mother with her family gathered around her, out in the patio. The hospice bed was wheeled outside & the patient and her family could be out in nature with a stream of warm autumn sun bathing the experience. I will be forever thankful that my mom went out of this life "like a queen" because of the compassionate people of Hopewell house. EVERY staff member that we encountered was excellent. Rite down to the cleaning woman, who was so kind to me - it made me cry. Such kindness and care. I thank God, my prayers were answered - I had long asked that when moms time came - that she would have a good death. This place exceeded my expectations by a landslide. I am also grateful for the volunteers & the Bloom Project & the the donations of food from local businesses, that the family is offered to eat. I spoke with several other family members of other patients, and the comments were all similar, we were all impressed with the place & the care. There is even aftercare grief support. They think of everything. I pray blessings upon the work there and all the future patients. If you have need for their services, may God bless you and your family on your journey. The angeles are there at Hopewell house to assist and comfort. Oh yes, and some of the angels have fur. Pet therapy dogs came to visit & that was wonderful because mom had always loved pets. I was told that pets from home could visit. The tiny therapy dog was a bright spot. She will be the last doggie that gave comfort to my mom. read more

Our cousin had recently spent the last 6 months in an assisted living facility but had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given just months to live. Hospice came in and when the assisted living could no longer take care of him, Hospice suggested the Hopewell House. When he was moved there they immediately called and gave us his status and asked if we had any questions or would like music played in his room and he drifted in and out of consciousness. When we first arrived they met with us, comforted us, welcomed us and showed us around like we were family, assuring us that this was our home too while we were there with our loved one. Coffee, tea, pastries donated from Starbucks were there to help family members as they spent hours by their loved ones bedside. Words cannot express our appreciation to everyone at The Hopewell House. You managed his painful lung cancer so that he could rest peacefully and you comforted him when we could not be there. My late spouse spent her last days at Hopewell House in April of last year. Hopewell House is staffed with extraordinary people with big hearts. The full-time physicians (of which there were two at that time) and the round-the-clock nursing staff and volunteers, are not only consummate professionals, but also deeply compassionate and gentle souls. On my partner's first day there, the doctor met with me and her closest family members to discuss what could be ascertained about her wishes and goals, and my partner's pain was managed meticulously well. Hopewell House even let us have a massive living wake party for my partner in the grand living room in the old house section of the building. It accommodated dozens of people, dear friends, family, and loved ones, art, music and song. It was one of the most profound experiences of my life and it will be with me forever. I can't imagine another place in this region allowing for the same thing. Hopewell House has a guest bedroom in the old house section of the building that I stayed in for a number of days, but I was also welcomed to sleep on a rollaway bed in my partner's room to be there with her on her final nights. Her room was filled with love and with special things, including plants and books, art and other meaningful artifacts from our home. Hopewell House was kindly and accommodating in this regard. I can only hope that when my own time comes, a place like Hopewell House is there if I need it -- if my health situation is so complicated that I can't be cared for at home. I have endless gratitude for Hopewell House and the people there. They provide a calming, light, and comfortable space for one to spend their last days in this realm and for loved ones to attend and witness that experience. read more

My friend just passed away here. it was terrible, she spent the last 2 weeks of her life here in pain. I'm a pharmacist and I know that hospice usually is aggressive in pain management. It is not so here. I knew that my friend's pain could have been treated but the providers here were unwilling to do so. I had to fight for the family to get her increased pain relief, and even that took a long time. There was never a good reason for not treating her pain. My friend was tough. When she mustered the strength to tell the nurse she was at a 10 in pain (the worst pain imaginable) the nurse looked at her and said, ' it doesn't look like you're at a 10' . She was at a 10 for 2.5 hours and it took the intervention of another hospice program to finally get my friend the medication she needed. And that was only one example out of many. In my friend's words 'it's excuse after excuse'. Don't ever go here if you have a friend or family member in pain. Some of the staff here was good, some not so much. The many volunteers were very nice. This place broke my heart. read more
