My husband had a stroke in August 2022. We moved into Marys Woods assisted living in Nov. 2022. I love it here! The caregivers are very good and kind, the nurses follow our health concerns closely, the dining room makes an effort to serve delicious food and the servers are attentive and cheerful. We are offered a wide variety of activities as well as movies in the afternoon and evenings. Overall, it feels like we are all one big family. Last but not least is the heavenly surroundings, the gigantic pine trees, the variety of trees and flowering bushes. The grounds is one large area of natural beauty that is exhilarating to take walks in and be spiritually and physically refreshed. read more

Our mother was at Mary's Woods for nearly 6 years before she passed in May of 2025. She started in independent living and after a stroke was moved to Villa Maria and then to Kellogg. We found her care to be excellent. The nurses and care givers were always very pleasant, professional and helpful. They responded quickly when mom had some accidents while in independent living. Their care in Villa Maria and Kellogg was even better. Mom told me how much she really enjoyed being there. We cannot recommend this place high enough. read more

The food was awful, the caregivers were bullied, the nurses clueless and the clients and their loved ones were ignored. In our past three years there, we had seen three CEO's, three nurse managers and three health services directors be hired and then fired for seemingly endless numbers of reasons. I ask to speak to all of them trying to petition them to do their jobs but without success. I was was always given assurances that things would get better but that all of their promises came to nothing. How is this even possible? And how is it so well hidden from the public? Transparency is not a concept that the various levels of the senior staff value or support. For example, my wife was not moved from assisted living to memory care because she was an escape risk but because "He (meaning me, her husband) was too picky". I was given a "cease and desist" order for simply being critical of the care my wife was receiving as she was dying. Even though we occasionally had a caring and professional caregiver, they were too often fired for being troublesome; meaning they knew their jobs better than their managers. I walked in to my wife's apartment to find her bruised and bleeding from a fall. Where were the caregivers? We fought with the managers constantly, forever hoping that the values of the original nuns that creating Mary's Woods would be honored and maintained. My wife was given the wrong medications. She had a variety of personal items stolen. She was refused vaccinations that were free. She received emergency treatment only after I personally took her out of the facility to receive it at the closest hospital, Meridian Park. But Mary's Woods is a corporation with one overriding purpose: to make money by spending more on feeding the trees than on caring for their memory care clients. If your loved ones are truly loved by you, don't place them in the continuing care facilities of Mary's Woods. read more

My wife and I moved to Mary's Woods two months ago, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. We have been welcomed by many of our neighbors and feel part of the community already. All of the staff have been consistently warm and friendly as well. The grounds are stunning. Enjoying the beautiful landscaping on the many walking paths has been a treat for us. And the food has been great. It's like being on a cruise ship or living in a resort community with all the amenities. Whatever apprehension we had about moving to a retirement community has been erased by our good fortune in finding such a wonderful new home. read more

I'm an outside personal caregiver who comes here weekly to assist a resident. Every encounter with the employees has been very poor. They seem to always have an attitude and get irritated when you ask questions or for any help at all or for anything. They are great with the residents but any outside people get treated very poorly. I just wonder how the workers are with the residents who are more difficult, they seem to not have patience when being asked things. If I can't ask the employees questions, who do I ask? All I'm trying to do is take care of a resident who clearly doesn't get adequate care to begin with here, hence why a private caregiver has to come in and help the resident. I just feel that people who work in this field (caregiving) should have a way better attitude than the employees here do. read more

This is a hostile, and stressful environment to work in because management can't seem to treat employees fairly or keep employees because they expect them to manage and take on three people's jobs due to everyone quits . If you're going to expect an employee to take on 3 people's work loads at least you could give them overtime to get the job done and stop stressing them all out and making them quit! I have lived at MW in Independent Living for the last 3 years, including during the Covid Pandemic. We are resuming sit down dining at 2 restaurants with a buffet at the third. The food is excellent. The staff is young (as is everybody except us)- they are friendly, polite, and funny. The grounds are spectacular- landscapers are outside all the time mowing, weeding, etc. Our apartment is spacious, clean and comfortable. Only complaint: it costs a lot. Life at Mary's Woods is very different from living in your own home but the trade-offs are worth it. Faucet drips--call Maintenance. Doctor's appointment across town--call Transportation. Dinner with friends - which Dining Room? Our three Fitness Centers and Pool are right outside your door. Trips, lectures, concerts, musical groups, fitness, book groups - you can be as busy as you want to be. Or perhaps it's just a quiet stroll on one of the many walking trails through our beautiful campus and down to the Willamette River. We have lived at Mary's Woods since 2017 and think moving here was one of our best decisions ever. The food at each of our three restaurants is top notch; the Staff, all the way up to and including Management are friendly, caring, helpful and have the resident's well being at the top of their list. I have been at Mary's Woods since 2017, arriving with my husband who was terminally ill with cancer.  For the 6 months before he passed, MW's staff were unstinting in their help and night care and worked cooperatively with Kaiser's Hospice personnel.   Since that time I have come to appreciate even more the caring staff in all areas of the facility.  The fact that a large number of residents are from medical, legal and other professional backgrounds says it all.  From this group of diverse individuals life-long friendships have evolved. What holds our community together are the many activities -- clubs, groups, events both on and off campus, lectures, musical gatherings -- either promoted by staff or activated by resident interest and input.  Our dining venues have opened up post Covid and are once again  offering the opportunity for convivial gatherings along with good menu choices. My husband and I explored every long-term care community in the area and MWs was our first choice  and remained so for the 5 years before we arrived.  I cannot imagine living anywhere else that would better suit me at this time in my life. During an unexpected transition, Mary's Woods accommodated and was the best place for our family: they took in my Dad in his last months and respected his last wishes; and my Mom is thriving there years since. They provide good Housing, multiple dining options, Gardening, Birding, Walking, Clubs, Social Activities. Most importantly: they give you space when you need it, and offer a Community when you need it. You want to put on an art show: they will encourage you and help you hang the pictures. You want to write poetry or fiction: they have a club for it and will cheer you on as you more confidently read your drafts. Wood working, not a problem. Walk quietly in the local parks, all covered. And important to all of us: they are part of the local community, not some walled garden. read more

We have been here 18 months. Before we moved to a retirement community, I considered it "throwing in the towel", admitting we were old and used up etc., but we could no longer manage taking care of our home and yard. Once here, I wondered why we didn't do this sooner. So many upkeep tasks in our old life that were becoming harder and harder because of both our age and the economy, are taken care of here, included in our monthly fee: no more utility bills to keep track of, all major appliances are included in the unit and any problems or repairs for them are not our problem. We have an amazing campus that is lush and beautiful with many open and also private natural spaces to enjoy nature and quiet. There are so many places to walk, and there are benches everywhere if you get tired of walking. There are two gyms (one has a pool), and for the first time in my life I go to the gym regularly because all I have to do is stumble out the back door of my building and cross the parking lot to get there. There are chapels, libraries, campus restaurants, lounges. The staff is always pleasant, courteous, and helpful. I initially didn't think we could afford to live here (we just toured the place to establish minimum requirements for places we could afford) but we got hooked immediately, and when I realized all the things we no longer would pay for -- utilities, maintenance, housekeeping (provided) -- and the optional things I don't have to pay for, like gym membership, you don't really need to own a car to live here -- free rides to appointments are provided, shuttles for shopping and going around campus -- it's an amazing deal. read more

When the situation arose, you (including your leadership staff) did not respond to emails and telephone inquiries requesting your assistance. Nor was I offered continuing care with Home Instead. Mary's Woods blatant disregard to the issue caused immense distress to our family. Your follow-up via Yelp and not with a personal response clearly shows where the interests of Mary's Woods lie. 0 friends 5 reviews Share review Embed review 11/7/2019 We received off campus Home Care Services since 2017. The caregivers are highly skilled and better paid than most. They also receive good benefits. Surprisingly the turnover rate is quite high. For the past 2 years, each and every caregiver who provided care to us expressed a concern about the "toxic" and "retaliatory workplace atmosphere created by the Home Care Supervisor." (These are adjectives used by the Mary's Woods caregivers.) The few times I ventured to offer a suggestion to improve services I was told "If you don't like the services, go elsewhere". Because I relied on these services and felt obligated to promote the well-being and retention of the caregivers, I met with the Vice President of Health Services to discuss these concerns. I believed that a better workplace environment might resolve the caregiver retention issue and permit the continuation of services for the few off campus clients that still remained. The Vice President of Health Services said she appreciated my feedback and looked forward to continuing providing these services. Two weeks later we received a letter that home care services for the off campus clients was discontinued. ("If you don't like our services, go elsewhere?") I followed up with an email to the Vice President of Health Services with a copy to both the Mary's Woods President & Chief Executive Officer and the Mission Director of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. I felt that the discontinuation of services was punitive. I did not receive a response back. Apparently the Home Care Supervisor is no longer employed at Mary's Woods. That may be a step in the right direction, but it does not forgive the lack of client commitment and blatant disregard to the community. It is unfortunate that a facility owned by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary is so poorly managed and does not value nor thrive from "the different perspectives and individual strengths that are essential to our success" as advertised in their Diversity Statement. We were considering purchasing one of their campus homes, but we will follow their advice and "go elsewhere". read more

My wife and I moved to Mary's Woods in 2009 as she was showing signs of dementia. She passed away in 2017, but had 6 good years enjoying all that Mary's Woods had to offer, which is much. The staffs here helped me through the last difficult years and were generous with their time; I never felt I was alone as my acquired neighbors and friends were my support. The people who live here at Mary's Woods are the type of neighbors one wants, helpful and caring. We have a high percentage of professional people, doctors, lawyers, Business types, which speaks well for Mary's Woods. If one is looking for a Retirement Community it is best to try before you buy. Visit Mary's Woods and tests the waters. The food is great as is the service. The two main dining room menus, which change regularly, are on a par with many high end restaurants. I actually used to be an employee of marys woods, and there are many reasons why I personally would never move any of my family into this retirement facility. For starters yes it is a beautiful campus and everything smells great you probably wouldn't even know they where an retirement community, however things on the inside where very rough. as an employees view (I was a CNA by the way) things where ran VERY BADLY. We where constantly understaffed (we would each have to take up to 7 high care need residents in a day) and under payed and we where not able to proved the proper care for these residents, when these residents and their families had payed really good money to have done for them. for instanance I discovered one of my coworkers was negleting the care of her residents I brought up with the lead nurse and HR and nothing was done I was told that there wasnt really any prove she was doing this when in reality me and many of my cowokers had caught her doing this. your family members WILL NOT GET THE CARE THEY NEED HERE!!! there was never enough suppiles or proper working lifts or weight chairs, there where so many falls due to lack of suppervison and some people where never given proper training before they where hired. they are really just looking for full wallets to drain dry. 10/10 would NOT recommed living or working here!!! read more

This is our third annual stay as guests of residents. The rooms are very comfortable and convenient. The facilities are very lovely and it is evident that the residents are very content here. We adore the holiday decoration displays that residents share in the community areas. The doll house in the library is especially intriguing. read more

There are MANY great things about Mary's Woods, not the least of which is that is DOESN'T smell like old people! Moved my Dad up here and, after a couple of months on the waiting list, got him into a very lovely one bedroom apartment in the main Provincial House. He loves the place. I love the place. Many many many activities, services and distractions. The staff are wonderfully friendly and caring. MW is a progressive care facility. They'll help you out with as much or as little care as you need. Once you've been accepted, you are there for as long as you wish to be. I could see myself hangin' at The Woods in a few more decades. It would be my luck that I'd be the one to bring the old people smell with me. read more

Poor management and transitional planning. If you are not Catholic, expect to pay more. Many hidden costs. Residents and their families are constantly asked for money, care for the resident and family is least of their priorities. I would recommend Terwiliger Plaza or Holiday Park over Mary's Woods, less money, better care, better management. read more

My mom has been a resident here for several years. Recently, during a regularly scheduled shopping trip, my 92 year old mother was abandoned at the grocery store by the Mary's Woods bus driver. The driver confronted her in the grocery store as mom was in the checkout line. The driver said she could not wait and left....A kind stranger gave my mom a ride back to Mary's Woods. Oh...the bus driver is still employed and no explanation has ever been provided to our family. All I received was a comment that this event was "unacceptable" and they would make every effort to ensure it didn't happen again.
