Hopper Haus is one of our family's favorite places! We've been coming here for years, usually a couple of times a month, and we've never been disappointed. Everything we've tried on the menu has been amazing, and the staff always makes you feel like family. They have a great outdoor area with live music, which makes it such a fun place to hang out and enjoy a meal. We ordered online and picked up the food so there isn't much I can say about the service, ambiance, or restaurant experience. After reading the reviews, I had high hopes and really wanted to like it but the food was just okay, for the most part. I had the Schnitzel for the first time since I was a kid living in Germany and was very excited to try it again now that I'm an adult. The Schnitzel and everything that came with it (minus the cabbage) was just way too salty. Listen, I'm a savory/salty girlie myself, but this was just too much. I do recommend it if you're okay with that. Me personally, I didn't like that. I would've given this place 5 stars and it would've been 10/10 if it wasn't so salt crazy. read more

We opted for outdoor seating but inside was spacious, clean and cool from the humidity. Ordered the pretzel which was clearly homemade. Crunchy, salty exterior with a perfectly chewy inside. Great dipping options. Got the kiddo a cheese burger and fries, myself the schnitzel w/cabbage and German potato salad. Hubs got ceviche, soup & salad. Everything was made to order and FRESH. Service was amazing. Felt like you were eating at your friends house. Solid beer options and plenty of room for the kids to roam outside. Some of the best food and brews in Port Isabel. Clean with an awesome vibe. Great (and I mean great) appetizers. The fried pickles and mushrooms were actually crunchy. Not what they used to be. No MORE Mahi, so you can forget that, even if it is on the menu. Grilled chicken sandwich -bland. Flounder tacos - too fishy. Grilled Flounder - I believe it came blackened, but I didn't bother sending it back - too salty. Seating is a casual, friendly bar scene, featuring local artists' work. We drove into town after 8pm and it seemed like the only restaurant open that late. Sadly, I think the tacos and chicken sandwich is better tasting at the nearby fast-food. If you're looking for good food, go somewhere else. Convenient location. I was staying and will continue to stay at Long Island Village. I was there for about 1 month for work. I saw they added this eatery on the corner of S. García, right before you enter bridge to go over to South Padre Island. I liked the beer at this place.. a lot. It's chill perfect size and has indoor and outdoor seating. Open late and just has a cool vibe. I gave 2 stars because the food was NEVER that good. Over salted, small portions l, and no real condiments or sauces put onto the sandwiches. The low stars also contributed to feeling a little bit like an outcast every time i visited. I am a woman of color and felt like the only woman of color at all times. Owners were never very friendly AT ALL and only talked to their employees and older folk (winter Texans) not one conversation not once. I probably visited and 6 times and spent some good amount of money. I did love the beer and convenience. But not the service or food. Would I go back when I stay there again? I don't know. If you're looking for German beer or food, this isn't the place to go as the name might imply. They had a bratwurst on the menu and no German beers on tap. Initially disappointed. But, I figure I'd give it a shot. So, I went with a flight of 4 beers and the pretzel bites. For the flight, I tried the pale ale, golden ale, dark lager, and stout. I know that tastes tend to vary, but none of those beers left an impression on me. The pretzel bites weren't good, more like bread balls with coarse salt. As I wasn't feeling confident with any more tap beers, I opted to try for bottled. They said they had about 25-30 different bottled beers. But, the downside is there was no beer menu, and no one knew what all was in stock. Some things that were nice about this place was the large patio out back with nice propane heaters. There were a few large TVs, including the massive projected one on the side of a wall. Also, the service was very friendly and prompt. Bottom line. Very nice ambiance and good service. Food and service was excellent! We were in town for the weekend and this was easily the best meal we had the entire weekend. We had the pick 3 appetizer with Pickles, cheese curds, and onion rings. Then my husband and I had the "Falcon Burger". Our friends had the regular burger and a chicken sandwich. All of it was A+ quality. I had the "Vaquero" beer they had on tap and it was delicious. My friend had a rum and coke and he couldn't praise the bartender enough for the pour on the rum- he was very pleased. 10/10 We will definitely make this a regular spot when we travel to the South Padre area! read more
