On my "to do" list was an update for Kelly's on SPI for which I needed to tick off the box and saying "done." I gave it 2 stars several years ago because the service wasn't the greatest - far from it - and it was fairly quiet that night. Isn't it often that way? I went back to Kelly's Irish Pub because I believe it was more about the server and bartender that evening than it was about their regular modus operandi. I ordered the shepherd's pie and it was actually fairly decent. The service was definitely much better on this last go round. When on SPI, I usually don't return to places more than once during a stay unless I find it exceptional, it's a coffeehouse, or it's Whataburger with its great hours. However, one day I had planned to get lunch at another small eatery and it was easy to see that they were full and I'd have to wait a while. Having seen the daily specials at Kelly's, I went back for one of them. I got the fish and chips lunch platter and it was very good, not to mention a respectable value. The interior delivers with its thematic busy collection of Irish paraphernalia and its feeling of being like an old shoe. The customers seemed to be in a good mood. That could also in part be attributable to the service I encountered. Kelly's Irish Pub on SPI handily moves from 2 to 4 stars for providing a good mix of food, service, value, and atmosphere on two visits within a week. I really like their slate of lunch specials and, befitting a casual neighborhood sort of place, their friendliness is appreciated. read more

A solid 4-star place ... Irish pub personified! No Irish music, but awesome ambiance and great Irish food. Tip ... stick with the Irish specials on the menu, that's where the gold at the end of the rainbow is to be found! Service is stellar! We had lunch and a dinner there, both were very good! Scotch Eggs .... good here! Shepard's Pie... to die for! Fish and chips, equally good! The Irish nachos are a "must have" ... get the 1/2 order, it's huge unless you're feeding an army! I usually like the charm of Irish pubs. This one is lacking in many ways. I loved the drink deals but the food went south quick. I ordered the Scottish eggs and they were lukewarm and not satisfying. It was hard to come by a menu here, and I relied on social media. One of the bartenders looked bored and annoyed to be here. Although, as the day progressed the night bartenders seemed more friendly. I did like that locals come here and give you good tips. I was told the fish and chips were a great option. So I will probably give it a second chance. There was an odd guy with gray hair that kept hovering and making me uncomfortable. Eventually, some people from Michigan chatted with me and started playing some good 90's music. So I enjoyed the jukebox option and the vibes they had going as it got later. Overall, just very lackluster and forgettable sadly. read more

Ok in here with my bros, son and nephew. Maybe it's me but I've never been served very luke warm Sheppards pie. The pic says it all folks. That said, I hate to give bad reviews but when ya come to an Irish place and get Sheppards l Pie like that...um. And the fubarr red ale was flat! But there's some good news. This is our "go to" place when we are in town. The atmosphere and service is outstanding. Fish and chips are AWESOME!!!

Our first stop after arriving in South Padre was Kelly's. YELP said some wonderful things about it, and it was close to our condo. We actually went back the next night for some late-night goodies. The food, the atmosphere, the service, the drinks---all were worth return trip. Corey H was our server, and she seemed to know what we needed before we needed it! The Lone Star, the merlot, the Irish Nachos came out really quick. On our return trip we shared the Shepherd's Pie. Kelly's menu describes it as Lasagna from Ireland. Pretty good description. We are doing the Winter Texans thing and have gone here a couple times now for dinner and apps. Our server is always great, the food is good, and playing Miss Pac Man and shooting a game of pool is great. My friend had the rubber sandwich and said it was great. Food:5 stars Wow I'm not a lover of corn beef but any of the options at Kelley's has changed my mind! From the tacos, my new favorite Ruben, to the steal of a deal Irish nachos! Our party of nine visited in July. There was only one other group there, about the same size as ours. All tables sat smaller groups. We tried to put two tables together and the bartender said we couldn't do it. We left and found another place to hang out that night. read more

The place was pleasant enough and the beer was great. It went downhill when my food came, though. The corned beef was tasty, but the menu says cheese; no Swiss cheese on the sandwich. The menu says thousand island dressing; no dressing. The menu says sauerkraut; the sandwich used coleslaw and not sauerkraut. The menu says rye bread; the bread was rye color but tasted like white bread. A Reuben is a grilled sandwich; my sandwich was warm but clearly not grilled. I really don't like going off on a local business in this way. The sandwich wasn't bad as presented, but that was not a Reuben and shouldn't be called that. read more

Solid four star visit. We went about 7pm on a Saturday night and was a bit worried when only one other couple was inside. It made seating easy. The waitress was fun and friendly. She got our drinks out quickly and we ordered a variety of food. This is a great place if you have kids or others who aren't Irish food fans. They have burgers and other items. We all enjoyed our food and invited the group we were staying with the join. We filled up the place along with a few others and by the time we left the place was hopping. They have darts and a pool table to provide a fun night of entertainment. Will definitely return. read more
