Had to come back for breakfast but this time with our kids! It wasn't busy considering it was raining out but still fast service! Husband got the chicken and waffles, my son ordered 2 waffles and only ate one (took the other to go), my younger kids split the pancakes and I had Gabby's French toast. Ordered orange juice and was given a mimosa size cup and when I brought it up they said it was the same serving as a normal cup. They argued that while the mimosa size cup looks smaller it was the same amount as the bigger cup with ice. When we spoke to manager about it they refused to a refill. When they said it was the same size I asked about the difference of straw sizes and the manager said "okay." And walked away. We went on a Sunday around noon. It's obviously packed as it's a tourist area. We waited a little bit over about 35 minutes to be seated and another 40 minutes to get our food. The food was ok. But nothing special that we would return for. What made us feel like we would never return was the fact that as you went further into the restaurant the hotter it became. The front was fine it was comfortable but we had a table in the back area. It was so hot and stuffy. The crew was very sweet and kind. We got there when the restaurant opened, with the great reviews we expected a lot from the restaurant. However, the "fancy coffee" which is a hot one was cold. We waited for 45 minutes which was no big deal, with the high reviews I thought it'd be worth it. But then.... We waited 25 minutes for our drinks.... 4 drinks.... THEN the waitress took our order, even repeated it back to us, and yet somehow got it wrong. So we then had to wait for it to be remade. Visited on a Tuesday morning early. The only customers were law enforcement. We had a nice table by the window. Server very nice. I had a great cup of coffee and the wife got tea. We both ordered the rooster. We could have split it!! For $9.99, we got 2 eggs over easy and over medium, 2 pieces of bacon, crispy shredded hash browns and waffles. Just as delicious as their SPI location, but the ambience here is so much more bright and open! We waited about 20-30mins but the time flew by since you can enjoy the Lighthouse and little shops/galleries of Port Isabel right next door :) the cafe also has a little gift shop inside with cute lighthouse miniatures. The service overall was quick during peak brunch hour and our waiter was friendly. The mango mimosa was refreshing and my friend enjoyed her cappuccino as well. For the food, I got the barbacoa benedict which was loaded with toppings and delicious! Josephine's portion sizes are always super generous so you can make a lot of dishes shareable. The hashbrowns are perfectly cooked and it was hard to not eat every last bite! Lastly the cinna-stack pancakes were AMAZING - my party of 6 shared it and we still had some leftover lol. This location is a much better experience than the original south padre island (SPI) location. The space has been totally renovated from the previous tenant for the better, with an open floor plan and additional windows added. The SPI location needs the same revamp. The staff is courteous and friendly and prices are relatively fair, exception being the $8.00 bowl of oatmeal with "hints" of vanilla and cinnamon, I mean geez all you get are hints for a item that cost $0.35. But I digress, portion sizes for the other menu are just stupid, if you order any side dish of egg, multiply the number times three if you order it scrambled. Same for hash browns. A short stack of pancakes can feed 3-5 people, Food is out pretty quickly as well. The only con is the parking situation, there is much onsite and street parking can be an issue with so many other restaurants nearby open for breakfast and brunch. This place is a favorite with the locals as well as visitors. read more

Really, really good food. The atmosphere just felt really nice as well. Live music while eating breakfast was a surprisingly relaxing setting. Prices were very reasonable, which was a nice reprieve from restaurants on the island soaking us for every penny all weekend. They seated us instantly on a Sunday morning at about 10am. I returned it and shared the chilaquiles with my wife. They were ok. Also, while using the very small bathroom, I had to wait for three of the boys who work there to quit playing around in front of the single urinal. Then after I used the restroom, they were still there standing in front of the sink joking with each other. When I said excuse me, they didn't move.
