I've read some not so nice reviews about Hopping Eye Assoc but I went anyway because it was recommended by a friend. I will say it was probably the best experience I've ever had. I started wearing glasses at 10, contacts at 14 (hard lens). By 40 my eyes had gotten where they said I needed bifocals. Went back to glasses but I still struggled and had to take my glasses off to read. Every year I had the same argument with my optometrist and then with ophthalmologist. I was told I just had to give the new glasses time. I tried bifocal contacts. One lens for distance and one for near. I was miserable. I even tried the multi focal contacts but I still couldn't read. As my grandchildren started coming along I had my glasses off most of the time. Babies like to pull them and I couldn't afford a new pair if they broke. Yesterday I explained to Dr Sun my issues. He was willing to help me find a solution and it was so simple. I didn't need readers and because other Drs kept insisting I did, it was just enough magnification that I couldn't see to read, and I love to read. Dr Sun fiddled around with these funky frames that he could put different lens in and I would try them on. Guess what! I could see perfectly for distance and to read and everything in between. I could even go back to contacts. The solution. One contact only. Distance in my right eye and nothing in my left. My brain had already trained itself to use one eye for distance and one to read years ago so this was a breeze. I would go back to single vision glasses. Yesterday afternoon was the first time in 30 yrs I could see well. I moved out to the front where the front office employees were friendly and very helpful. I thought the frames were kinda expensive but I don't usually have to buy new frames very often and getting out of progressive lens was going to save me a ton. Plus nothing in today's world is cheap, nor is it built to last so when I was offered a warranty for $25 I jumped at it to have that peace of mind that my glasses were protected. I also knew I didn't have to buy my frames and lens there, I could go online and buy 20 pairs for what I paid for one pair. Yesterday, I would have paid 3 times what I did just because a Dr finally listened to me and I can now comfortably see near and far without removing my glasses or my contacts. From my years working in the warranty department for Kenmore vacuums, I always purchase a warranty if it's offered. Very few companies can afford to stand by a product they don't manufacture first hand. American made or Chinese made very few products are worth what we pay for them, that includes glasses. Kenmore has a 1 yr warranty that honestly is worthless. Agents are trained to listen to key words that void your warranty. In fact most products are that way so if it's something I want to use for a while I purchase an extended warranty. I've had to use that warranty more often than not. I'm sorry for anyone who didn't purchase a warranty and something happened to their glasses but don't blame the clinic if you were offered extended protection and decided not to take it. This is a whole different century and not the old days where Kenmore vacuums lasted 40 yrs. Nothing is made like it used to be. Bite the bullet and pay for the warranty. Beware! They sell poor quality and won't stand behind it. I spent $800 to get a pair of sunglasses with transition progressive lenses that are polarized. It was an investment. The lenses are deteriorating and it's only been 2 years! The optical person asked if I've worn them around water or heat. Ummm when else do people wear sunglasses? I have worn these 95% of the time while driving my car and at my pool where they do not get wet. Even though she admitted that they should not have broken down so quickly she said it happens and there's nothing they can do. But if I want to spend another $1,600 on two new sets of lenses (this does not include the cost of two frames) that includes a 10% discount. This is not a special offer. This is an offer for any private-pay clients. I was prepared to get new glasses and contacts in a week with my next optical exam, but I canceled instead since this place sells poor quality items and doesn't do anything to fix it when you point out the problem. I've had 3 visits to hopping eye associates and each time its been a problem. First time the eye glasses I purchased were defective and I tried 2pair of same nike frame & each one broke at exactly the same location?? It was their determination that that frame wasn't defective. Next visit for annual eye exam using my accepted insurance, i was charged for the eye exam & then had to explain that the annual eye exam was free of charge? My third appointment for annual eye exam (i have never been to the friendswood location nor did i know of additional locations), i had received notification of the annual exam was due and called the telephone # on notification for scheduling appointments & went to Clearlake location to find out the notification was from friendswood??? . None of the multiple text notifications had the office location and the person I made appointment with didn't indicate what office I had called. 3 issues with 3 visits? read more

My husband and I moved to the area a few months ago and needed to change over everything, including our eye doctor. After looking at some reviews, we decided to make an appointment with Dr. Sun at Hopping Eye Associates. We were highly satisfied with our decision! The office was full of friendly faces that were helpful with all of our questions. There was a play area for the kiddos and magazines to read for the adults. The staff was friendly and Dr. Sun was great! He let my husband and I be in the same appointment room after I was done with mine and was so personable with us. We are looking forward to coming back for our next appointment! read more

I only decided to go here because it was close to where I live and because of the reviews here on Yelp. Once again, the reviews were spot-on! I loved this place. Everyone was so friendly and professional. Clean, professional, laid back atmosphere. I didn't feel rushed at all during my exam for a new prescription. Dr. Hopping answered all my questions and was very helpful in explaining all my options. When it came time to pick out a new set of frames, Lizz was great. She helped me decide on a new pair of Oakley's and explained to me the different options available with them and what my insurance covered. Two weeks later they were ready for pick up without any issues whatsoever. I would highly recommend this place. The customer service is fantastic, which for me goes a long way. My family and I have been coming here for almost 15 year. The organization is outstanding. With two active sons I can not tell you how many times they have been here late at night or on the weekends. It is great to know as a parent that your doctor will be there when you need them. Dr. Sun is our doctor and can not express how appreciative I am for all he has done for my family. I have been legally blind my whole life and have seen many eye Dr's. Dr Reed Hopping discovered my eyes were shaped wrong and prescribed specialized contacts they improved my vision to where I was no longer legally blind. No other Dr has suggested this before. Do not do not do not ever go to hopping eye associates. The dr. kept patting my knee with his fingers which should have warned me that even worse was ahead. I chose some glasses, which were astronomical in price, but on learning it. I explained that I couldn't pay that much. Ok, after waiting about 15 minutes. the young woman whispered that the price would be reduced 400.00$. Nice, I suppose, but why were they not honest about the price to begin with? I relented and went ahead with the purchase. I thought I made it clear that I wanted reading vision only on the bottom of the lens as I 20-20 far vision. When the glasses arrive, they brought out the wrong ones. The woman kept whispering info to me although I asked repeatedly to speak louder, which she refused to do. So I walked out without a clue as to what had happened to the glasses I ordered. The next day I received a call saying the correct ones had arrived so back I went. They were not what I ordered at all, the lens were readers all the way up. So I called again and was toldok nothing can be done to correct this mistake. Now I'm out expensive glasses (even minus-400$) that I really don't work for me. What is happening here? The exam was fine but I warn you STAY AWAY? read more
