This is my convenient, go/to liquor store that is within walking distance for me. I've always had pleasant experiences here. Some staff more friendly than others, but never had an off putting interaction. I mainly go for wine, but they have a nice selection of beers and liquors as well. They have a good variety of items at different price points and I can always find something new I want to try. Another plus, they are dog friendly. Whenever I bring my pup, they greet us friendly and offer him a treat. He would also 4 paws recommend. read more

Love this local shop near my home. Making an emergency run for vino never feels like an inconvenience and takes ten minutes tops. What a win. They've got a great selection of wines and everything is easy to locate in the store. Not sure if anyone else cares about this, but I love when a place just "makes sense" with the way they layout their inventory. When you walk in, you're able to easily find what you're looking for here, be it rosé, box wines, liquor, etc. Perhaps my favorite thing about this place is the "Mix n Match" wall in the back. You can create your own six pack and try out new beers a la carte. The new staff isn't very friendly and they typically seem annoyed, but they probably know they have a semi-captive audience who will opt for the convenience of being in Piney Orchard. Rude, rude and beyond rude! One star is generous. The gentleman that waited on me could not be bothered to say hello. He barked out you will see when to put your card down. After that he walked away before my transaction was fully complete. Shocker.... No goodbye, thank you or have a good day. Sir, you work at a liquor store. I cannot imagine your job is that stressful to treat your customers so poorly. This was not the first time I've seen him treat customers in such a distasteful manner. This store was recommended to me by a stranger at savage liquor store . I decided to check it out. The location is easily accessible. You cannot miss it. Its neat store with huge selection of both beer and wine and the best part ( rather unique) if you can make your own six packs of beer which is great if you are into beer tastings like me. That way you get to decided which beer you like and don't have to waste money on beers you won't like. I got really good chocolate stouts from there and also tried some spiced wines. The staff was really friendly and helped in finding all the chocolate stouts very patiently. The price range is huge so depending on your budget, you can find something you will like. Only problem I can point out is that since they have both wine and beer the selection is not very huge but its definitely huge than those on the corner local liquor stores and definitely have some unique finds. Nice little liquor store by the Piney Orchard development. They have a decent selection of beer, wine and liquor-- though the selection is not extensive. The workers usually greet me upon walking in and ask if I need help. Prices are a little more expensive than Total Wine (couple more dollars for a 6 pack of Angry Orchard), but coming here usually saves me gas and time. read more

I've patronized Hops & Vines for the past several years. They maintain a decent selection of wine and craft beer and the staff are generally friendly and helpful. HOWEVER last week, while shopping in-store, I requested to order a case of wine. The gentleman took down my order and mentioned it would arrive with the next shipment scheduled for the following Tuesday and should be ready by Wednesday. Today is Thursday, so I called to check on the status of my order. The gentleman who took my call appeared preoccupied with an in-store customer (I heard him say "I will be with you in a minute") during a hold period. Eventually he told me my order was not in. I then asked to cancel the order, since wine.com had the wine in stock. To which he replied "well, I can't tell if we have the order it might be in the back, can you call back in 10 minutes?" 20 mins. later I call and a woman took my call. I asked again about my order and after a brief hold she said it was in. Perfect! So I head over. It's about a 15 min. drive, nothing crazy, but not around the corner. As I neared the shopping center entrance I received a call from a different gentleman. He told me that he was sorry, but that my order was NOT there. That they had 5 bottles, but not the full case I ordered. And at this point, I am annoyed. I explained to him that I was around the corner and that I was told my order was ready and that my order was for a case. To his credit, he was very apologetic but offered NOTHING after inconveniencing a long-time patron. I was not expecting a hand-out, but even offering an additional 5% off of my order for the inconvenience would have been SOMETHING and would have gone a long way. In conclusion Hops & Vines gets 2 stars for their selection and minus 3 for lack of initiative to ensure a happy customer. read more

As stated in other reviews, this store has a nice beer selection. My main problems with the store is that there is zero signage. Nothing for beer, wine, or spirits. This makes it especially difficult to select a wine, since there are a number of shelves with wine bottles, but nothing to give the customer a clue as to what wine is on any shelf. You have to go through shelf by shelf to find what you are looking for. It's not quite so bad for spirits since they are grouped by product name, and the selection is fairly small. I would love to know what a recent reviewer meant when she said that the layout of the store "just makes sense." read more

We have been patrons of Hops and Vines since the day they opened. The staff there are very personable and knowledgeable. The problem here is the new manager. Whenever we have approached him with questions about anything, he is rude and obviously annoyed about being "disturbed." The first time we chalked it up to a bad day; however, after repeatedly observing his interactions with his staff and other shoppers, we now realize that he just is not a nice person. read more

Hops & Vines is quite a gem of a shop. They focus on beer and wine, and have an adequate and often eclectic collection of spirits (Italian biscotti liqueur, anyone?) They fill a great niche between the neighborhood Lotto-and-Budweiser stores and Corridor Wine & Spirits, the area giant. Their wine selection is varied and focuses on value wines from off-the-beaten-path wineries. The staff is very knowledgeable and has wine tastings on most weekends. We've gotten many a bottle there that we've gone back for seconds on. Or half a case. Likewise, they also offer a significant beer selection that focuses on microbrews rather than Big American Beer. The staff is equally knowledgeable on the beer front, and treats beer snobs on an equal footing with the wine snobs. Spirits are also available; although their selection is limited they are (as previously mentioned) very eclectic and medium-to-top shelf in nature. The staff has always been friendly, ready to talk, and ready to suggest. They also have an excellent e-mail flyer that you can sign up for in the store, which tells you which wines and beers they are tasting each Friday and Saturday. I had a very poor customer service experience here recently. I bought a bottle of Rhone blend a few weeks ago, which was about $15. I opened the bottle last night, and it was obviously corked. When I tried to return the bottle, the clerk doubted that I had bought the bottle there, because I didn't have a receipt. He asked "Did you really buy the bottle here?" How am I supposed to respond to that? "No, I go routing through garbage cans looking for nearly full bottles of obscure Rhone blend so that I can try to return it and scam you out of $15?" I really just wanted to exchange it for a new bottle. It's not like it was a $300 bottle of Dom P. Sheesh. It's a real shame because the store has a decent craft beer selection and nice layout. This is one of my favorite liquor stores in the area. Of course there are bigger liquor stores with larger selections, but this place hits all the basics and hits them well. They have a least a handful of each type of spirit and they usually stock the good and/or popular ones so that you don't have to worry about getting something that won't be good. 'm a bourbon guy and they have a good selection of bourbons. I also enjoy a nice glass of wine from time to time and they have have basically every varietal you'd want. I'm not a beer guy, but the beer selection takes up a significant portion of their store and it makes me think that they will likely have something to satisfy your craving. Moreover, I've generally found their staff to be quite knowledgeable when it comes to their stock and what they don't have. If they don't have something, they'll tell you where to find it. Really good people here. I haven't been to one, but they also hold tastings at this shop. If you need some booze, I'd suggest coming here. I can't say enough how much I like this place. read more

GREAT local beer/wine/liquor shop. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly and they have regular tastings. They've got ~10 beers on tap at any given time that seem like they're switched out pretty regularly, and they're always happy to give customers a sample. They do growler and crowler fills for reasonable prices. They've got an extensive selection of beer and wine, and I love how they've got the wine organized so that you can find something on budget that you'll probably enjoy, even if you have no clue what you're looking for. Without a doubt the best place in the area to get craft beer. You can build your own six packs, which is nice when you want sours and double IPAs, and your wife only drinks things that are flavored like fruit and chocolate. If you need a case of domestic for the Bills game(I know Baltimore, I had to), they have that as well. Also note they have a rotating tap for growlers. I don't buy wine here. Wine selection is mediocre, very new world heavy and product most any respectable wine shop would have on their low-mid tier shelf. I would say there are around 30 old world facings so if you are looking for 50 options from across the Loire I would go elsewhere.(where around here? I don't know. Places that don't have a 14.99 bud light 18 pack bill board slapped to their store front are far and few between) Being in the industry, I don't usually ask too many questions when I shop for wine and beer so I can't comment on staff knowledge. However, I will say the few times I have asked for help in finding something specific they have bent over backwards to see if they have it, offered to order it, and have recommended something similar to it. If they know who to call to get you a case of that random limited production you had at a brewery in Vermont two weekends ago, that is all you can ask for in a good shop. read more

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I was never greeted by anyone as I entered. I proceeded to walk around the store because this was my first time inside this store. As I get to the back I'm practically followed by a white lady who proceeded to act as if she was headed to the back, but her eyes were directly on me and the only reason she proceeded to the back was because I was actually on my way towards the front because I found what I was looking for. I arrived at the front, yet again not greeted. There was a black man who was the cashier.... he asked for my ID. In which I presented my Passport (as I am waiting on my ID to be mailed, furthermore we all know that can be used as a identification.) He proceeds to ask "if I just got back into the country" If I was rude I would have told him to mind his own business but I said "in fact, yes I have.. just went to Aruba but why do you ask?) he states "well normally, people don't carry their passport around" Ohk from there I was extremely annoyed and appalled. Mind your business, and don't stalk your customers just because they are black. I will stick to my typical liquor store, won't be shopping here! read more

I had purchased a bottle of Dewars 12 year old just before they closed the liquor stores in MD for the CV Pandemic. I didn't have my glasses and it wasn't until I got home that I realized the charge was almost twice the normal prices. I jumped to the conclusion they had jacked everything up just because of the emergency and wrote a scathing review here. Within a couple of hours I got an email from Ryan the manager saying it was just a mistake and offering to make it right (which they did). They earned a new dedicated customer. read more

On my 10 or so visits, I have received fair customer service, my 2 items frequently sold out, and promises to stock more of the items. I just went in again, asked for the same items and found they were again sold out. This staff appear to be new and are not familiar with the location or types of product and the prices are higher than most other liquor stores. If it were not for the location of Hops and Vines, I would not even consider going there again. If you want superior customer service go somewhere else. read more

Pet friendly, people friendly, it's clean, open, and the staff is always pleasant. My husband and I even signed up for a winery tour that Hops n Vines hosted last year. On the trip, we met the owner and his significant other and even a wine distributor. They were all fun, nice, down to earth people and it made us feel more a part of the community. Overall this is a great store - a decent selection, smaller store, but with lots of options. I love the make your own six pack they have with a wall of crafts and microbrews. Not very many liquors here, definitely more catered to beer and wine (as the name suggests). Friendly, small, clean. I give it 4 stars as it's often difficult to get through on the phone. I order a keg for my home bar every few months and inevitably someone falls short with calling to give me a price or when it's in... but they're friendly, and nothing is more convenient if you live in the Piney Orchard area. read more
