My wife and I decided to spend a lovely brisk day riding horses on the beach! We've both been horseback riding, but never combined into one activity such as this. My wife was paired with Matty and Zero (his horse), and I was with Christina and her horse (forget the name).... For my wife, she had a lovely time. Her horse gave a little sass. Sometimes it wanted to just pace, other times there was a little trot for playing catch up, but she enjoyed the extra little ride boost. For my ride, although I very much enjoy conversation and Christina was a very knowledgeable and friendly host, I do wish that I had been able to experience more of the ride experience in quietude. Taking in the views and talking with my wife a little more. Instead, I feel like Christina and I were sharing our life stories. Although I am not faulting her for the mutual conversation...... I just wish that the guides would keep it to the ride and landscapes vs trying to chat. The experience and this business is very lovely. I thoroughly appreciate the fact that I was able to text with the staff prior to answer any questions. I always prefer texting to phone calls these days. I would absolutely recommend Horse N Around to any of my friends that want to enjoy this type of activity. Again, I just wish that it was more about the serene experience, the horses, and beach vibes, with less chatter all around. Thank you to the team at large! 100000% will be back! Our guide Terry was so amazing and made us feel welcome on our trip! This was a very last minute and spontaneous adventure and honestly am so glad the universe led us here! Upon check-in we were greeted by a lovely lady at the boutique and the cutest pup! Then we headed to the trail spot which is only a few minutes down the road. We met with our guide Terry, who was so knowledgeable, personable, and welcoming! This was my first time riding a horse and I did not feel nervous at all! Victor and Traveler took care of the two of us and they were delightful horses! I can confidently say that this tour and the experience, made me want to ride horses again in the near future! We chose the Dunes path, and it was about a 45 minute ride toward some sand dunes overlooking the ocean. Absolutely beautiful! Definitely recommend to wear pants, and if you're petite like me, maybe even some butt pads, but regardless it was wonderful chatting it up with our guide and soaking in the beautiful path. We took the 3:30pm slot and it was an enjoyable ride, slightly chilly though so you may want to bring a jacket just incase. read more

We visited Bodega Bay for spring break and originally had plans to go on a whale watching tour, but they had to cancel due to the weather conditions for boats. Brought the family out for a quick outing. They have a few different trails to choose from. My kids opted for the "Trapping Trail". It was a slow ride around the huge ranch property that took around an hour. Our reservations were for 1pm but the ride didn't start until after 2pm. There was no rush and we just hung out looking at some of the horses and talking to the ranch workers who were really nice. Kids need to use their special helmets (no extra charge). They wouldn't allow bike helmets. The place is right off of Highway 1. Look for a big sign. The phone GPS might give you a different entrance. Absolutely the best place for a nice ride, either on the beach or whatever trail ride you choose. I had my granddaughter so needed to do the fish pond for her but the staff is always so nice and accommodating and they make your ride exactly what you want it to be. We had the pleasure of riding with Shirley and her dog, Merle, and it was amazing. Merle was a hoot, playing tug of war with the tree branches and running ahead to make sure there was no danger lurking ahead. I was sad to hear about the wreck they recently had with their horse trailer (through no fault of their own) and glad all the horses are doing okay but very upset that people don't pay more attention to what they are doing. I have ridden the beach ride with Sarahbeth as well and know she is a very sweet girl and I wish her the best and hope she gets her trailer replaced very soon. I would highly recommend this as your "go to" place for a great ride whenever you are in this area. read more

We're a family of four who took a private beach and dunes trail ride in Bodega Bay. My husband and I are experienced riders, and it was the first ride for our children, ages 12 and 8 Our guide, Jackson, was friendly, knowledgeable, patient and professional. He shared interesting information about the area and landmarks along the way, with a good balance of quiet riding time that allowed us to enjoy the natural beauty around us. My partner and I had decided to stay up in his parents' quaint little house just a few weeks ago in Bodega Bay as a quick getaway. As we were looking at the map of the surrounding area, I noticed that there was an equestrian trail right nearby, and I decided to see if there were any horseback rides that could be worth the price. We happened to be so lucky when we came across Horse N Around trail rides. Shirley was our trail guide, and she is an excellent host who is great company! I spent a long time working with horses on our family rescue/ranch, so I know how to ride horses well. My partner has only been out riding a few times, so I was worried that we might not find something suitable for both of us, although I was wrong! Shirley made sure to ensure our comfort while also allowing us to have a lot of fun on this ride, not like your classic nose-to-tail trail experience. We had booked a private ride on the beach, and I'm so grateful that we did because it was some of the most beautiful scenery that I've ridden through. I had such a blast and great experience with this company today! I had booked this a few weeks back and they responded within an hour of my online inquiry. I made the mistake of booking for the wrong day and they were so sweet about helping me correct it. The check in process once there was quick and easy. Once we got to the trailhead, the instructor, Ashley introduced us to our horses and took us on the Dunes Trail. We are beginners so this was perfect for us. Ashley was awesome, she made sure we were comfortable and taught the basic commands. She kept checking back while riding and let us take a stop for pictures on the horses. We just had our first ride with Horse and Around, and are more than happy with our experience! 1. Everybody was very nice all along; we reserved online via their website (super user-friendly), and even got a phone call from Sarahbeth just a few days prior to our reservation date to confirm and see if we had any questions. 2. The variety of trail options is great; we chose the Cheney Creek trail, and loved every minute of it. The scenery was gorgeous! 3. Excellent, kind, and professional all the way around. We had some delay due to rain storms but wasn't by much. It was great to see the care taken about the safety of the horses and rider. We completely understood this as they are working with people, live animals, and weather which all have a mind of its own. I cannot stress the importance enough to not pack your day so tight you don't have wiggle room. The last thing you should do is push to tack a horse in questionable weather conditions. Also keep in mind these are working animals not a house pet. Our guide Shirley was excellent and so was Sarabeth at check in. My family and I took a 90 minute beach and dunes ride. Our ages ranged from 8-67. We all had some riding experience and I feel like we were well-suited to the horses we were assigned. Our guide, Addy, was fantastic! She talked about what it was like raising horses, and was very knowledgeable about riding. We thoroughly enjoyed having her as our guide and would come back in a minute for another ride; however, I think the 90 minute ride was a bit much for my 67-year-old body. Two of us went to go horseback riding and prior to booking the appointment we told the girl that we were intermediate riders. That we wanted to make sure that if we spent the money to go horseback riding it would be fun for our skill level. They assured us it was so we paid $75 per person. They took us for a ride in a big giant circle which I'm assuming was the ranch. The entire time I just left my reigns hanging on the horses saddle because they were ass to face and we slowly walked the entire way. It was the same ride a six year old did prior to us. It was extremely boring. And a waste of money. Unless you have kids I wouldn't recommend. Response to owner: we appreciate you fitting us in however we specifically asked about the ride. If we were told it was a circle around a ranch or a ranch ride for the skill set of a six year old we would not have paid to do the ride. We were under the impression we were going out to the beach. The lack of communication from your staff should not be your customers downfall. And just to clarify I can show you our bank statements we were charged full price. $75. Just because you have all your information listed on your website that does not mean that somebody out for a day trip who stopped by should not expect clear communication from your staff. read more

My friend has previously had great luck with this business. That being said, one of the guides brought her dog on the trail and was awful to the dog. It chased cows - she dragged the dog by the collar for probably 15 feet - making it whimper and then cower; the dog then had an altercation with two other dogs - she hit the dog making it cry and none of us knew what to do - It was very upsetting and ruined the trip for both kids and adults. Generally she was very unfriendly and really uncool treatment of her animal. They've also changed the start location so the first and last 10/15 minutes are spent walking past a noisy and busy road (however that was not even a factor given the drama with the dog). read more

I had a blast riding with my guide Katie. I was a bit nervous being the only rider, since I expected to ride with a group. She was very patient, entertaining, and I even got to trot and canter a bit thanks to her. I rode with this beautiful, calm, and a bit prissy mare called Marley. I was a little worried because the communication was a little slow and confusing in the beginning, but everything worked out just fine and we had a great experience. My daughter absolutely loved horseback riding for the first time. I was a little nervous her being on a horse by herself, at six years old, and they put her on the nicest slowest horse they had. She still is a little miffed that Jackson only had one speed, but I'm grateful that was her first experience. We did the hour dune ride, it was long enough to enjoy the experience but not so long that our butts ached. The young woman who led our group was calm, encouraging and very kind to the kids. All of the horses were well cared for and calm. I have the feeling we will be back as my kid enjoyed the horses more than any other activity we did during our beach stay. Be sure to read the directions, you go to the trout farm to pay your bill, get your helmet, and then if you are doing the dune ride you drive yourself to the Bodega trail head. The only suggestion I have for improvement is to have a handout to give to the people driving to the trail head as to where to turn, or include it in the email. "Turn by the kite store" is not very helpful because it seems like every store along the way sells kites. read more

My girlfriend and I have never ridden horses before so we were excited to literally take the reigns for a weekend private ride on the beach. This outing was a birthday present for her, which I explained in the note section of my submission form. Here are the positives of the experience: the horses were sweet and easy, riding on the beach was nice, and we even got to trot for a few seconds in the open. There wasn't much instruction beyond how to control the horse. As beginners we were expecting a little more coaching and guiding but maybe that's not typical. The horses just followed each other and we didn't do much. Things started off a little awkward too - we arrived on time to check in, but no one was there and our guide was dropped off a few minutes later. Her driver apologized as she got out, but she didn't acknowledge us or say anything, and she walked up toward the office so we figured we'd follow. She did not introduce herself to us, so my girlfriend did the introductions. She didn't seem too excited to be there and tersely had us sign the papers and pay. I would have preferred not to have had the price announced since as I mentioned it was a gift, and my girlfriend was standing right there. Also while in no way required, there was no acknowledgment of it being her birthday so I feel like my note about this being a special thing for her was basically for naught. Weirdly, it was only once we got on the horses on location that she 'introduced' herself and gave a little speech about the ride. It was like she was just on autopilot. My girlfriend and I essentially drove every conversation throughout the day - the guide was nice though, and did engage a little bit and opened up as time went on. She took some great pictures of us on the horses. The last thing I'll comment on is the route. I thought by selecting beach we would spend most of our time there, but unfortunately over half the ride was a slow trudge through narrow unsightly dunes which was a bit of a bummer. Maybe that can't be helped either, but in case anyone else is thinking of booking with HNATR and doing the beach trail, now you know. read more

Went on the beach trail ride as part of my bridal shower. It was a nice ride, but I'm extremely disgusted and appalled by the treatment of the guide to my horse. There were NUMEROUS occasions where she would hit and slap my horse on the face if she wasn't doing what she said. My horse was peach. She even PUNCHED my horse right in the face. I was absolutely horrified. I will never go through this company ever again if this is how they treat their horses. I'm looking into what I can do. That guide SHOULD NOT be able to work with animals. She even was acting aggressive to her own young dog, who cowered down so you know that dog is mistreated also. This is the best picture I have of the guide. What a wonderful experience for Valentine's weekend!! My little family (hubby and 8 yr old son) went horseback riding here on a Saturday......very very beautiful day in February (Surprisingly). We are not riders and my husband and son's very first time. I had been horseback riding a few times when i was younger, but that is about it. I did an online reservation (be ready to provide full details), and it does say they will contact you within 36-72 hours...so be a bit patient. I did get an email at 48 hrs to call them back. When i called, i rec'd an answering machine so i left a message for a call back. I did not get one, so the next day, I tried and got through. They confirmed my reservation and I provided my CC to complete our reservation. We were told to arrive 30 min prior to our ride. We arrived and was able to fill out forms and pay (option for card or cash). All children under 18 must wear a helmet. option for everyone else. We booked the Osprey 60 trail. It was not a private ride. We rode with another family of 4. Our guides were Angel and Amy. Angel had the pleasure of being the front guide and my son was immediately behind him. Angel was very patient with my son and you can hear the fascination my son had. They did teach us how to hold the reigns (my son caught on as well) and also how to stop and go. My son had Flour, who he enjoyed riding. My son asked a lot of questions to Angel---and he was very great with him. My son loved it so much he wanted to come back the next day. I loved my horse as well- Calvin. I felt like I bonded with him. It was a very relaxing ride. Amy was our guide at the back and she was very nice as well. I had the pleasure of being in the back with her and she talked about the trail and the views. She is very knowledgeable!! Next time we will be back and book a private tour.
