It is a 14mi ride, so be prepared to be in the saddle for a while. Experience is a plus, but Ramiro made sure everyone stayed safe and would always give pointers.

She has been such a great mentor to my daughter as many of the leadership lessons with horses are so very applicable for a young girl's life lessons. For a young girl to have the confidence to lead these horses - it's just so amazing to witness. Recently we decided to take a staycation at her lovely home and rented out a couple of rooms for us for the weekend. Karin was such an amazing hostess from the very beginning when we got there, to the lavish exit from her property, as she had both her dogs positioned on either side of the gate at the end of her driveway as a send off. We stayed in a beautiful room with incredible views of the Nicasio reservoir. This is a must stay place for any photographer, bird lover, horse lover. It felt like we were completely in a different country, when we were only a 20 minute drive to our home. Karin made us an amazing breakfast each morning, while overlooking the reservoir, watching pelicans, falcons, and yes...bald eagles flying overhead! How incredible! Her house has several rooms to rent, and she also has a treehouse, which my daughter stayed in with her friend. They had a blast. A great skylight above the bed to stargaze. One night we enjoyed dinner at her outdoor 'cantina'. During the day, dipping our toes in the beautiful pool. The kids enjoyed chasing the little lizards that basked in the sun. We brought our dog who had probably the most fun of us all. Finally, a place where a dog can actually be a dog! Did I mention Karin is a fabulous dog trainer as well? Thank you so much for such a fabulous weekend that we will cherish always, Karin!

I would HIGHLY recommend the experience of being with these majestic horses that roam the 35 acres freely eating grass. The property is stunning, it feels like you're in Europe amidst the green rolling hills and Karin is also a phenomenal chef. She makes the worlds fluffiest omelettes for breakfast and incredibly authentic Danish dinners as well. It was so much more than a vacation for us, we will remember the things we learned here for a lifetime.

It was the get away I was looking for. There are a lot of trails, and while we didn't spend a ton of time right along the ocean, the hillside views were still really nice. We had a great guide. The setup is cute, and I loved that they let you interact with the horses beforehand -- they seem to take good care of them while still making it enjoyable for guests. On our ride, we were paired with a couple who has been taking lessons there and they had nothing but great things to say, which was really reassuring. Only downsides: the website is pretty confusing and pricing for certain things wasn't very clear. It is a bit pricey, though. That said, I'd definitely go back -- and if I lived closer, I'd even consider lessons. But it is just too far for me to make the commitment.

Easy to make reservations. And so well worth the fees. Remember since it's a national park, no dogs are allowed. Things are a little older and rundown a bit, but it's still an amazing place to horse camp! Hey, aren't we all older and run down?? Free hot showers and real toilets. Clean too! Know that cell coverage is limited in camp. Yes nice to get away! There are level sites, fire pits, picnic table, Tielines, water (not potable) and a manure dumping pit plus on the way out, there is recycle bins and trash bins. I also noticed you can rent horse panels if needed. Trails are part of the National Sea Shore. Always beautiful.

We've had great experiences at Cloverleaf. We know the ratios of campers to counselors allows for attentive care. Still, the mid-week phone call telling us how his week was going just reinforced how much the staff really cares. For this reason, Cloverleaf will continue to be a Cremidis family tradition for many years to come. Next year, little brother will be old enough for residential camp and he's already making plans for how he'll spend his time.

I didn't feel comfortable with this arrangement and am glad I didn't sign my daughter up for sleep-away camp. She enjoyed the day camp but the staff seemed more concerned with protecting themselves rather than allowing parents to protect their children. I was expecting some nice local horse riding girls to mentor her and instead had to leave her with boys who wouldn't tell me their names. She won't be back.

Amber was our fabulous wrangler. We checked in at the office and they gave us instructions to drive down the highway to another location where the horses would be waiting for us at the trailhead. This is where we met up with Amber and her dogs and the horses. The horses names are Kiki (Ambers), Quinn ( my wife's horse), Traveler ( my daughter's horse, and I got old but dependable Walter the former draught horse. We found out after a while that no matter how tall you are how big you are they have a horse for you and you just call up and tell them what your needs are and then make sure that you get a horse that suited it to you. Let them know whether you're novice or an experienced rider. That makes a difference in the selection, but all the horses are sweet. I cannot tell you how incredible it is to ride through the dunes and pop out onto the beach, looking at those white sands and crashing waves. It was such a beautiful day to go out. I want to go back.

I ended up buying a sweater at the visitor's center and used it during the entire trip! Our itinerary included the Bear Valley Visitors Center, Chimney Rock, Elephant Seal Overlook, Lighthouse, Drakes Beach, Cypress Tree Tunnel, then back to the Bear Valley Visitors Center. The entire trip took about 6.5 hours - it was great! The visitors center was clean, well-stocked, and informative. Bathrooms on the outside, plenty of parking. Inside there's a shop with lots of goodies including clothing, totes, stickers/pins, first aid supplies, and more typical goodies. Rangers were very friendly and informative. Lots of interactive displays as well. Chimney Rock was a quick hike. There's a bathroom and a bench or two at the trailhead. We thought the hike was pretty easy. Lots to see including wildflowers, bugs, birds, and deer! Plus, the view at the end is gorgeous, and there's a geological stamp there too. No elephant seals at the overlook, but it's not peak season, so we weren't expecting any. The lighthouse was a nice surprise! According to the website, it should have been closed on a Tuesday, but the ranger told us that summer hours are different, and it was open! We went to the small visitors center, then walked the 313 steps down to see the lighthouse. It was super windy. There are several rest points along the staircase in case folks need it. While we couldn't climb into the lighthouse, we could go inside and peak around, which was pretty cool. There was a ranger there who answered questions, and we saw some people looking for whales. Drakes Beach was gorgeous. We ended up staying for about 1.5 hours because the kids had so much fun digging in the sand and watching crabs scurry along the beach. There was barely anyone else there, so we had a huge part to ourselves. And there are a bunch of sand dollars! That was so cool to see. Most of them were cracked, but occasionally we saw some whole ones. The visitors center here was closed, but looked like it was well-stocked with unique goodies. Bathrooms were open, big, and clean. Cypress Tree Tunnel was every bit as beautiful as I've seen in photos. Quite a few people there walking the tunnel and taking photos. The boys earned their Junior Ranger badge at the end of the visit. And we got our stamps! Fun times - we'll definitely be back!

As you walk you are able to hear the beautiful sounds of the babbling brook along the route. Being late Spring we were able to spot a good amount of wildflowers- buttercups, poppies, bleeding heart, foxglove and more. We encountered several equestrian's throughout our hike.

The perfect definition of a secluded beach. It's tranquil, it's peaceful, and best of all; it's…read morepretty much void of the general populations that frequent the park. This is because you'll have to hike at least 5 miles one way just to reach this beautiful beach. One of the most rewarding elements of making it here is being able to see the hidden waterfall right as you reach the bottom of the steps leading down the beach. There are probably a few different connector trails that you can take to get here. The quickest and less aggressive way would be to take the Bear Valley Trail to the Coastal Trail. This route is mostly flat and measures about 5 miles one way. It's also the popular trail within the park. If you're looking for more of an adventure and killer workout, take the Mount Wittenberg Trail to the Sky Trail which will also lead you to the Coastal Trail and down to the beach. Not only is this trail filled with tons of great inclines and ridges, but it's also insanely gorgeous! You'll be walking amongst the most beautiful trees and have stunning views of the coastline on your way there. This is the trail that I took to get there. It's about 7 miles one way, but you can also take the Bear Valley Trail back to make it a 12 mile loop instead of 14. Once you make it there, you'll be rewarded with calming waves and beautiful white water right beneath your feet. The sand is soft and there's plenty of flat driftwood to sit on. Use it to relax and have lunch while you take in the sights and sounds of Kelham. I think I saw about 2, maybe 3 people while I was there. I stayed at the beach for a little over an hour or so. Basically had it to myself for the majority of the time. If you're looking for a secluded beach to relax at during your trip to Point Reyes, this is the one. The trek may be long, but the sights and solidarity make it totally worth it.

Once you see the sign for the Kelham Beach Trail, go down the several steep steps to the beach. Once you reach the beach, you will be treated to a nice sandy beach with not too many people. When we were there, there might have been only a few other groups there. It feels very remote and secluded. It is defiantly a nice place for a romantic picnic. The beach also a small waterfall which was a nice surprise. If you have never been to Point Reyes before, hiking to Kelham Beach is a good starting point. The terrain wasn't too challenging and the beach was easy to find. I would defiantly recommend checking it out if you are able to.

"Where is the best place to get 360 degree views of the ocean?" Someone asked me this question last…read moreweek while I was hiking out at Tomales Point, and I've decided that the answer is Chimney Rock. (I mean, technically, the answer is actually 'from a boat in the middle of the ocean,' but I'm pretty sure they meant like, 300 degree views.) Chimney Rock is a thin straight of land that peeps out into the ocean. Or, in more technical terms, according to the NPS website, it is "the Eastern spur of the Point Reyes headlands." If you think of Point Reyes as being shaped like a double-headed wrench, the lighthouse and Chimney Rock are on the same side of the wrench, but they are the tips that oppose each other. Each one juts out into the ocean on its own. Of course, you could also get great, nearly all-around views at the lighthouse, but this requires hiking down 313 stairs. As opposed to the lighthouse, Chimney Rock is a much easier hike. In fact, this hike would have been a breeze, if not for the actual breeze, which was blowing at about 45mph. (Point Reyes is the second windiest point on the West Coast. If you are not able to maintain a very strong stance against the wind, then consider a different hike.) The hike was less than a mile each way. There were not very many wildflowers, but in some ways, this is actually an advantage over Tomales Point, because it allows for better unobstructed views. There are a lot of social trails at Chimney Rock. NPS has posted signs in front of these trails that say, "Unauthorized trail, hazardous cliffs. Please stay on authorized trails." I stayed on the authorized trails, not just because I'm a goody-two-shoes as a hiker, but because, as a California native, I understand cliff geology, and the very real risks associated with it. You may be thinking, "This cliff isn't really going to crumble and drop me into the ocean," but actually, this can and does happen all the time. (In fact, this actually happened to a member of my cohort at UC Santa Barbara.) A side hike can take you down to the Historic Life Saving Station. There is not a sign that says "this way to the life saving station," but you will know which trail it is because it is *not* marked with an unauthorized trail sign. (I have not yet taken that side hike, but it looks interesting.)

The easy walk itself is fairly short out and back with a mandatory turnaround at the end of the trail. Make sure you venture to the right toward the beginning to get that awesome sheer cliff ocean view. And be careful because that little 20 foot desire comes with some wind. Many folks miss this feature of the hike. Lots of flowers during springtime.

The Tomales Point Trail is much farther out and the hike is in view of the ocean and features Tule Elk. The trail is about 2.5 miles and takes a little over an hour. Since it's so close to Point Reyes Station it's nice to go here if you are looking for a shorter hike and not wanting to go all the way out to the seashore or do a long Bear Valley trail. The trail is easy passing by two lagoons or ponds and views of the Inverness mountain in the background. Lots of wildflowers in the spring! Lots of birds, not always in eyesight but I could hear them everywhere. I kept seeing a black bird with a bright red markings, not sure what type of bird this is but it was pretty. There is no shade, most of the time this isn't an issue since Point Reyes is naturally cool or foggy but on a sunny day this can really creep up on you.

For years now I've driven by the Tomales Bay Trailhead and been consistent in remarking that "I…read morewant to hike that". I finally did, and when I'd almost fully back-tracked to my car I said "Well, done that. Don't need to do that again". I got home and told my son I'd hiked this nothing-burger trail. At first he didn't know which trail I was talking about then he was struck with a sudden recognition. "You're right" he said, "that's a nothing-burger". There's nothing wrong with his trail aside from there not being much to it. Parking at the trailhead is easy and free in a small lot. After going through numerous gates designed, I believe, to keep the cows in, hikers are presented with attractive views of Tomales Bay and the surrounding wetlands. The trail is neither challenging, steep, nor long but if you want to make it as long as possible head out to the end of the peninsula. Reach the end of that and return the way you came and you'll log a bit under 3.5 miles total. There's no looping here so backtracking is your sole option. Dogs aren't permitted though nobody appears to be checking. If you've also been driving by this trailhead for a long time know that crossing it off your own bucket list won't eat up too much of your day so you might as well. Pretty, easy, and short make this a worthy place to work off a few calories before heading further north for, perhaps, that platter of Hog Island oysters that's got you on this road in the first place.

Point Reyes Arabian Adventures, and its owner Susan has more than earned my respect and gratitude. From when you first arrive to when say goodbye to your steed and head home you will enjoy the greatest experience that West Marin has to offer. For those wanting recreational rides: For those who want a small one hour ride with the family to the thrill seekers wanting to go on a six hour journey through redwoods Point Reyes Arabian Adventures should be your next visit. Water is always available, and can and will be given on request. For beginners the Tomales Bay ride offers an exciting view of West Marin where you and your horse will trot uphill to our beautiful Vista Points that are great for photo opportunities. If you would like to learn how to ride in more detail, the one and a half hour ride would be ideal as it starts out being an outdoor lesson with a view, then goes on as a faster paced variation of the Tomales Bay Trail. For riders with a little more experience the hour and a half forest special will take you through a small redwood forest that leads to hills overlooking San Pablo Bay. For experienced riders looking for a fast-paced ride, the San Fransisco Bay ride atop White's hill, or the Woodland and Mountaintop ride with a trail head in San Geronimo would be ideal. For anything over two hours long you may need to call a week or two ahead. For those wanting lessons: I was a complete novice to horses, even a bit afraid of them when I first met Susan in early April of 2019. At Arabian Adventures you won't only learn how to ride, but also learn how to handle and work with horses on the ground, as well as tacking, grooming and leading horses. Through her lessons I have advanced from the Western discipline to English in a time frame of about a month and a half while taking lessons once a week, but if English doesn't suit your fancy there is still much to learn from her about Western. With Susan you will learn all the finer points of horsemanship such as how to ride the walk, trot and canter, to how to properly control and have contact with your horse through your legs and the reins, be it direct or indirect rein. The only downside of taking lessons with Susan is that once you leave you won't be able to take your mind off of having another one! Safety: Susan is adamant about the safety of her riders, and of her horses. Helmets are provided by her free of charge, and are required to be worn while riding and occasionally, while working around horses. Closed toed shoes are required in order to ride. There is also no trotting or cantering allowed downhill. Bathrooms: There is a porta potty on site if needed, but none on the trails. read more

As an experienced rider who has had the privilege of horseback excursions across multiple locations (California, Wyoming, Colorado, Michigan, Banff, Belize, Guatemala), I had high hopes for this trail ride but encountered several concerning issues. The positives first: The location offers breathtaking views that would typically make for an exceptional riding experience. However, several red flags emerged before and during our ride: 1. Horse Welfare Concerns: My assigned horse, Peanut, showed clear signs of distress (consistently pinned ears) that were noticed not only by me but also by experienced riders in our group. When I raised concerns about the horse's readiness and ill-fitting tack, the owner-guide Susan dismissed these observations. 2. From the start, when I unknowingly handled the reins too tightly, the instructor's reaction was defensive and harsh rather than helpful. Instead of a simple, calm correction, I was scolded, creating a tense atmosphere that made it challenging to relax and learn. Throughout the ride, her tone was condescending, especially when explaining concepts like momentum and kicking. It was as though she expected beginners to already know the specifics of riding, which added unnecessary pressure instead of encouraging us to improve. For those hoping for a patient and supportive instructor, this experience may not meet expectations. Past reviews have echoed similar feedback, suggesting that there's been little effort to make the learning environment more constructive. Horseback riding can be a beautiful and relaxing experience with the right guide. Unfortunately, this session didn't provide that and left me counting down the minutes until it was over. read more

I might not have anything new to add as high praise for Susan and her horses, because the other reviews have been an echo of my experience. Superb horses that are "bomb proof" without being wimpy or passive in any way. I am 69 and hadn't ridden in a few years so got nervous and shared that with Susan. She chose a horse just right for me. Her confidence in her animals and the experience helped me remember my own skills while trusting her guidance. So I got to see the forest and the trees at a walk, a trot and a cantor. I joined others who were strangers to me for only a short time. By riding together we connected in that way that horse and human can. Age range of riders that day 13 to 69. Fantastic. It is a 14mi ride, so be prepared to be in the saddle for a while. Experience is a plus, but Ramiro made sure everyone stayed safe and would always give pointers.
