I asked about pruning other trees and they said I was doing a good job and they didn't need any work. It's not everyday you a business doesn't try to sell you something you don't need. Absolutely the rudest man I have ever met. He blew me off for 3 weeks and promising he would stop by to look at my property. When he did come by, he told me he would install one day, then kept pushing it off. He then acted as if he was the victim for me getting a little irritated by this. I recently had an encounter with Bret of Hoss Tree service. He was estimating at a house next door following a recent storm. There were many trees down in the area including a bunch in my yard. He made the effort to stop by and offer up his card. We invested the better part of a half-hour listening to how great he was. He told us that he would return the following day to give us an estimate because he was unable to quote the work at that time because he needed to clear the trees in the neighbor's yard first to determine whose trees belonged to who. We had loosely set a meeting time of 5 pm the following day. I had given him my contact information so that he could call me when he was onsite. During our conversation, Bret mentioned that the work needed to be done soon because the city would come out at some point and force the work to be done. Bret did not show the following day as suggested and he did not call. What's interesting is that he didn't have the courtesy to reach out to me, but he had the brass to contact the City of Batavia and tell them that we had some tree damage that needed to be taken care of. Who does that? You're in the business of cutting trees and you have an opportunity to work next door to a job you're already doing but instead of calling me, you reach out to the city to turn me in? I called a couple of weeks ago to get a grown tree in my front yard. For over a week, the owner blew me off about coming to my yard to check out what I had going on. He finally came out a few days ago. At the time he came out he told me he could put the tree in the next week as I wanted to have it done by the holiday. I could have been put on the schedule sooner but because of his delays in coming out it was delayed. He left me a message today that he was wrong and couldn't do it until the week after. Then acted as if I had asked him to move me in front of others. I most certainly did not do that. So I told him that he had delayed the job by at least a week-not me. His next message to me was that he didn't need my business and cancelled the job. I had already had Julie out to check the lines so now I have to start the entire process over. We had a corkscrew willow that needed to come down immediately due to the last high-wind storm. Not only did they come out immediately, Hoss did an amazing job! They beat 3 other quotes and left the backyard immaculate. The willow tree they took down was massive. Somehow they managed to get it through my gate and hauled it away. Be careful. Some communication and follow-up problems with this organization. I contracted them to remove 2 trees, and they did a fine job at that. However, it took over 8 months and dozens and dozens of phone calls and voice mails to fully settle out the transaction which was really when I gave up trying to work with them. Constant prodding required. Their guys hit my neighbor's house and drove away claiming that they were not aware it had happened. This in-itself is disappointing but the matter was made much worse due to the lack of communication and follow-through, and abundance of excuses. In the end, the hardest part was really just getting someone to pick up the phone. When I did finally get in contact, they had no explanation for not returning phone calls, nor did they show any concern for losing a customer. I will never use them again, nor can I recommend them to anyone else. read more

We were referred to Hoss by a friend who highly recommended them, and we couldn't be happier with their service! We had two huge pear trees fall during a storm, and a third lost a huge branch. Brett came out on a Sunday to give us a quote, and removed the trees Monday morning. Their pricing was extremely reasonable, and they did a great job of clearing everything away. In addition, Brett took the time to explain why the trees were so susceptible to breaking, and what we could do to save the third tree. Hoss Tree Farm in Batavia, IL replaced two trees that had died and gave a two year warranty. A year later one of the trees was 90% dead. I called him and he promised on several occasions to come out and inspect the tree. On each occasion he was a no-show. I called him and each time he had excuses to include his wife was in the hospital, he was behind, the weather, etc. The excuses never stopped. He finally showed up and said that he felt that he could save the tree by replacing soil of which he promised to do the following week. It is now three weeks later and he has not replaced the soil or returned my phone calls. Brett is a great salesman but he doe not honor his warranty. I filed a claim so the Better Business Bureau where he has a F rating. If this does not work then I will sue him in small claims court. BUYER BEWARE! read more

Are you kidding me? 1. Brett was not onsite for the install. His foreman was who was since fired after soon after our install. 2. There were no utility lines where trees were planted, that is why I called J.U.L.I.E prior to install. They were just too lazy to take out the stump then covered it up with dirt hoping I would not notice. Well I did notice so they made up a lie about utility lines. Which lines would be there. None. They are all in the easement on the outside of the fence. 3. Why would I encourage them to take out a bush from my fully landscaped yard? I didn't. And they did not remove anything...they ran it over. I know this because I found it smashed. And when he replaced it, I had to dig out the old bush myself and put the new one in. 4. There was no rain, his machine just tore up My grass was great before their machine. 5. My fence was a 4 year old fully maintained, beautifully stained picket fence. There was no rot, decay or damage to the fence. His repair did take 2 seconds and it looks that way. He broke a gate picket and poorly nailed it back together. But when he hit the picket, he bent the gate hinge and it still does not close properly. 6. Did anyone notice where he did not address the fact that my new pear tree was planted in the middle back of my yard rather than the corner? It was completely put in the wrong place. No excuse for that. 7. I guess I was lucky. I did eventually get a small amount of money back equivalent to the stump grinding charge. 8. It appears that the reviews with positive rating only had removals completed. (Also read the "not recommended" reviews!) Not reinstalls. But based an all the negative reviews, thank goodness my trees are still alive so I don't have to deal with this guy ever again. I would strongly think twice about using this company. 9. I work in customer service and in my professional opinion, no customer wants to hear excuses on why you were unable to do what you promised. It's poor business practice. But Brett is full of excuses, blame and bad language. I'm easy to please. Do what I paid you for, don't damage my property, respond to My inquires and if there is a problem fix it. I read the two other posted reviews and was not surprised because I had a very similar issue with Hoss Tree Farm. Our trees were planted over a year ago along with several of my neighbors. Four of us had warranty issues and he never returned to honor the warranty. Just as the others said, it was one excuse after another. The more I tried to call him out on his lies, the more verbally abusive he became. The facts are relatively simple. The company offered a warranty, the tree is dead, it needs to be replaced and he refuses to do so. My advice is find a reputable nursery, even if it costs a bit more. Others may think that they had a great experience with their new purchase but wait until they have a warranty issue. They will never hear back from the company. My experience has been very different from other posters, mine was completely positive from start to finish. I had one very, very old and very, very large tree removed and several other smaller old trees removed from my property. My phone call to get a quote was returned promptly. Brett came out as promised a day or two later. He explained in excellent detail what my choices were, what he recommended and then ultimately what would work best to minimize damage to our lawn. Service was scheduled and a date was set about 10 days out. Prior to the service date I received a phone call from Brett saying because of weather changes (thawing) he would recommend a different option and exactly what to expect. They showed up as promised and performed the work exactly as discussed. Then they came back again as promised to take care of the stump grinding. I am so glad I didn't read these reviews before I called him and the work was done (he was recommended to me by another company I do business with) or I would have missed working with a great company. read more

Brett responded to my request for a quote within hours and was out within two days. His quote was fair and reasonable. Once we decided to go with him for the job, Brett scheduled our job within five days. His crew arrived in time, they were all very kind, and listened to my thoughts and preferences for the tree trimming. I could not be more happy with my experience. Horrible experience. My wife had 7 trees removed and two trees planted. The tree removal was uneventful but the experience with the two trees planted did not go as well. All the rocks, clay and debris dug out was left in a 2 feet area around the trees and pushed up against the branches of the tree. When Brett was called to have this fixed, he then wanted to charge more money to have this fixed and stated that is was not his responsibility to clean this up. His exact comments were that the back yard was "junk". When I personally called to address this, he became very defensive and threatened to come over and deal with me man to man?? Overall very poor experience and poor costumer service. Very unprofessional. Would definitely not recommend. read more

They completed a portion of the work but - after repeated phone calls - refused to return to complete. When my wife and I called Brett to return - he stated that he did not even know who we were !! Hoss Tree Farm which is owned by Brett Kristensen, who also does business as Hoss Tree Services, came out to plant trees for me. Two of the trees died. He guaranteed them for a year and when I called him to come out and replace them he would make appointments and not show. My husband called to get a date certain when he would show, Brett became so verbally abusive my husband felt it was in our best interest not to let him on the property. I emailed him to let him know I wanted a refund instead because of his behavior. No response. I called the Better Business Bureau. No response. I posted on his site on Facebook where he later removed his account. His business practices are shoddy. He said he would call JULIE to mark for underground wires and gas lines, they never showed. He explained he always had problems with them. But now I suspect he never called because he has to pay a fee for the service. I'm sure a phone search would reveal the truth there. He never came back to check on the work done. He had excuses for why he couldn't come out to replace the trees. He is simply unscrupulous. A one star rating is too good for him. read more
