I made sure to track my food intake so I would have room left over for some tenders as I eat them in moderation ( twice a month works for me) First of all Angry Chickz can kick rocks, they got NOTHING on Hot birds. There are multiple definitions of hot, let's be clear: 1. Hot, as in temperature 2. Hot, as in spice level 3. Hot, as in this place is a HOT SPOT because of its popularity. The parking lot is always crowded, so a heads up in advance if you read this review. I live across the street from one of their locations so I can just walk instead of worrying about finding a parking spot. I ordered the 6 piece chicken tender combo. The food is always hot when it's ready. The complimentary bird sauce is good, though mild it has a kick to it. Chicken is always cooked thick and well, and the crunch to the chicken tenders is sweet and juicy with tons of flavor. First time eating at Hot birds, I've heard about it but haven't tried it until today. I saw their trailer across the street from my house and decided to check it out. HOT STUFF HERE!!! This delicious messy sandwich made me very happy!!! Add a side of fries and your tastes buds will thank you. Many levels of heat to choose from I decided to go with medium. Can you believe there's another level with two ghost peppers (waiver needs to be signed) but mild was plenty for me, I think next time I may try a hotter sauce. Their menu is simple, yet straight forward. Choose your sandwich or tenders and then choose your dry rub heat sauce. The service was great and despite a line I didn't wait that long for my food. This is my favorite place to eat at these days. The Sandos are so delicious. The fried chicken is always fried perfectly and I love the seasonings. I usually get the Medium spice level but Mild and Xtra Mild are also super good. And the Mega Chicken fries are fire . Their coleslaw, pickles, special sauce is just too yummy. Its the best I ever had. The service is great too. Even though they're always busy the wait is never an issue. The people that work there are all kind and the owner is chill too. Best chicken sandwich I've had near the 831 area. Don't think I've had food that smacks this hard from a food truck. I drove here all the way from Salinas and it was well worth it. They have different heat levels and they give you samples of their spices just incase you're unsure of which to go with. Personally I went with mild after almost choking on the hot spice. Their portion size is great. You get a bang for your buck. They have condiments and utensils on the side. I had the hot bird sando combo, it was delicious. The loaded chicken fries were even better. We got the jumbo size, good enough to feed 2 of us and over a two day period! Still amazing the second day! There is a waiting period and I suppose that varies but I did not wait long, despite there being customers that arrived before me. They get pretty busy with customers! I'm sure a lot of them are returning customers too. While you wait they give you a beeper so you can wait in the comfort of your own car. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The food is good, and worth the wait in a parking lot. I am surprised at the spiciness-- I'm not going beyond mild on their heat rating scale, tbh. Drawback (for me, not them) is that they're getting so popular they have to close at times to catch up on orders. That was the situ when I tried stopping in for lunch last week. I hope they expand to a full kitchen/restaurant. Where would be a good location in Watsonville? I can't unclick "ambiance" somehow... I love hot birds but hot birds 2 needs to figure out how to be consistent on spice level. I always order mild and it seems like every other time I order it, I have to throw it away because it to damn hot. My lips burn for 15 minutes after one bite today. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich and it was cooked perfectly. Chicken was juicy and the sandwich was tasty. The only thing was I ordered the hot hot spice level and it was maybe a 3/10 at best for spice level. This doesn't take away from the overall flavor at all and I would definitely come back.
