I bookmarked this joint before I traveled from Texas (I'm a hot dog junkie), and I was really excited to try the place. Unfortunately, it was a let-down. This restaurant is housed in a circa 1970s Taco Bell, which is pretty cool. The place felt dirty on our visit. And there was not a restroom. Is that not a law in Ohio? (Yes. It's a law.) Though the service from the lady working the whole place was very friendly, she was in over her head. Not her fault, necessarily. Still, several of us waited on our orders way longer than we should have. Further, she pretty much screwed up everything we ordered, except for the tater tots. I said "No Onions." multiple times. What happens? The hot dogs come with onions, including the Hillbilly Dog; the onions are hard to discern when piled atop slaw. Needless to say, my Hillbilly Dog ended up being a chili dog with a few bites of cabbage. Further, onions littered my mustard dog, which was also dressed with ketchup. In other words, it was Murphy's Law day at this dive. The 'snappy' dogs here are OK. The standard dogs are fine too. One of my buns was wet and gummy down one side ... not sure why, but I pulled out the hot dog and ate it on its own. The chili here is an abomination. It's sweeter than pumpkin pie, which is a huge no-no. It's as if the person who developed the recipes here is missing tastebuds. Finally, I have spent less money on lunch at a steakhouse. The hot dogs here are more expensive than burgers at any chain, including Whataburger, In-and-Out, or Shake Shack. My tots were $6. An order of tots at Sonic are a couple of bucks. While the restaurant owner has every right to set the price point, I won't be paying Disney World prices for (disappointing) Disney World food at a dirty joint housed in an old Taco Bell without a bathroom. Hot Dog Diner recently re-opened. Decided to give them a try. Went there and food was not bad, not great. Did not care for the shoe string fries. Chilli was sweet - not a fan. Buns sort of hard- as if they were not kept in a closed bag. Prices yeah well a bit high. It was 38.00 for - 3 fries, 2 plain hot hits(classic), 2 classic chilli dogs and 1 jumbo (which was not jumbo) chilli dogs. Inside is a disaster - the place is in dire need of some new paint, a very good cleaning and updates. The crew was very nice and seem to be enjoying their work although they were making negative comments loudly that they were sure someone will show up at 6:45 and make a big order as they close at 7:00 PM. Happy to have had the chance to try this place. Small place with multiple tables and booths. Overall pretty clean. Friendly staff taking your order. We had the hillbilly dog, Chicago dog, and Chili cheese dog. All dogs were really good. Toppings seemed fresh. Loaded with toppings but hot dog was still manageable. Excellent fresh cut fries. Wife & I love supporting local businesses, I've seen them on Fox8 multiple times. This is a quaint small place. Although it's small it's big in enthusiasm to greet their customers, patience, smiles and more. Since this is my first time back after a long time. Nothing fancy, nothing that stands out. This is your basic hamburger and hot dog spot. They make the French Fries freash. I tried the snappy dog, which they claimed is hand twisted natural casing. The dog did not look or feel like a handmade natural casing hot dog, but it was still tasty. The jumbo dog resembles a 7-11 bahama mama and has a similar flavor but lacks the spicy heat. Hamburgers are bland and overwhelmed by the flavor of the condiments. I would stop in for another jumbo dog if I am hungry and in the area, but I probably won't go out of my way. read more

We ordered food for the family yesterday (8/4/22), I can't stress enough how awful the food was. In the order was a few chili dogs. Mostly gross tomato sauce with barely any meat like their picture in the menu shows. You can get a better chili dog at Rallys. I used to live in the area and ate here often. Since I was in town I decided to go back for their food. I was incredibly disappointed. There were only a few hot dog options, not the huge amount I remember. I decided to go with the Nashville chicken sandwich and a "big" dave burger. The burger was upcharged for cheese even though it was pictured as containing cheese on the menu (only the drive thru is open) but not a big deal. The food came out in about a minute or two; even McDonald's takes longer. I remember waiting anxiously for their food for 5-10 minutes because it was always delicious, cooked to order, and worth the wait. I should have just returned it then. The Nashville chicken was okay but the chicken didn't fill the bun. The real disgusting and hugely disappointing aspect was the burger. I was served a disgusting meat patty that I can only describe as a frozen Salisbury steak meat patty from a .99¢ budget meal that was left on a steam table in a cafeteria overnight. It was weirdly processed and incredibly dense. It looked nothing like the picture or the food I remembered. As far as being advertised as a "Black Angus" and a "big" burger, I highly doubt it. I have been trying to shop local during this pandemic in order to support small businesses and families. Shame on the owners for taking nearly $10 from my family during these hard times and serving sub-par food. I will not be returning and I suggest others do the same. I'd give this place a solid 3.9 out of 5. I wish I had a location near me, that way I could try the whole menu. Their bacon deluxe was pretty good, a lot better compared to any whopper or big mac. My wife said their hot dog was really good, too. The fries and their sauce collection is a must have. I love their regular hot sauce, but that hot dame, I think what it was called, was pretty spice and delicious. I only knocked off a bit of points because their restrooms are in desperate need of an update or just a deep clean. Customer service was great as well. read more

I'd give the place 5 stars for the burger alone, or the Chicago dog alone, but when you combine these items and all the other Crazy Dave concoctions, you're left with a definitive five star legend which should be a lot more popular than it is - but is doing fine nevertheless, and never seems empty. Not to mention the fact that Dave is a very intelligent man, who knows a lot about all kinds of food, and is a really nice guy to talk to. Decided I was in the mood for a Chicago dog and thought I'd check this place out. We arrived about 11:30 and discovered the dining room was closed indefinitely. We had to use the drive through that had a very, very limited menu. Grateful I had Yelp photos to help me out! Got a Windy City dog, a slaw dog and a Hillbilly dog to try a few options. Operating out of an old Taco Bell restaurant, these guys have a variety of fun and interesting hot dog varieties and concoctions along with very good (fast casual style) burgers and hand-spun milkshakes. I've had the pierogi burger and western burger along with hand-cut fries and onion rings...and I've also had two different shakes - one with chocolate and peanut butter and another with peaches. Really cool place but - placed orders in store and ordered online and wasn't good. Placed a DoorDash order to work and they put all the hotdogs in one container but multiple people ordered. The pop syrup needed to be changed they were all flat pop. Also got a few hot dogs that were snappy and extremely hard to bite and chew the skin was very tough. I took my buddy to Hot Dog Diner for lunch today to try him somethin' new. Today, we were in the mood for dogs, so I got a Chicago Dog and a Hillbilly Dog. Now that I've been to Chicago and enjoyed a real Chicago Dog, I have a basis for comparison. No, the Hot Dog Diner's Chicago Dog did not live up to my expectations, but it was okay. I don't really remember it having any flavor, to be honest. The tomatoes were there, but they had no flavor. The pickle had flavor, but that was about all. They should swap the onions for sweet peppers. The Hillbilly Dog was delicious. The chili was yummy and the slaw was done right. This is my favorite hot dog so far, me thinks. My buddy Nik also had a Chicago dog, but he had a different dog as well, which I can't remember because it was gone before I could say, 'how's that dog?'
