I just experienced my first and last time in the store. The card selection was a bit overpriced, but the real disappointment was in the way that fellow card players have shown themselves to be a toxic and a loudmouthed community. One player in particular went out of his way to more or less yell that people playing a particular deck are "pieces of $hit.". Well needless to say I have far better things to do on a Saturday night then be verbally berated. I won't be back to this store and will actually be reporting them to riot games. read more

Make sure you clarify how you want your cards handled. When inspecting my cards, they took cards out of toploader and sleeves without asking. They also will rub their fingers over the surface of the card for an unknown reason. I hope they will be more careful in the future when handling expensive cards, including when pulling the card out of the toploader. They handed the man-handled card back to me raw. Excited to visit this place but disappointed when I left. To their credit they had a nice selection of inventory on-hand. In order to get pricing on anything in the display case I was told I needed to use the computer/kiosk near the front door. Why? Didn't make sense to me. What's the point of checking out the item on a computer while I'm here, now, in-person, and just want to see the condition of the item I'm trying buying. Very strange buying experience. Hot Sauce is my friendly local game store. I come here for Magic the Gathering cards because no store is faster at pulling orders and few have the selection. While price may not be cheap, the store is THE most efficient. On top of that, I enjoy talking to staff and they help me design my decks. Owner Adam is so welcoming they allow me to bring my puppy in the store while I wait. In addition, Adam has supported thr Rotary Club of Westmont fundraising efforts through donations. Don't come in if you're not a part of the clique. I came to sell about 50 of my old Yu-Gi-Oh cards that, at least back in the day, I knew had some value as I spent hundreds of dollars on them specifically. They told me they buy the cards, and that was it. Came in and had to stand and wait about 20 minutes for the "buyer" to be free to look at them. INSTANTLY - like, before I even sat down with him - he told me that he wasn't going to buy them due to their non-mint condition. Granted, some where creased, but a lot were in great condition. He looked at 2 of the cards and pulled one out of its protective case before basically telling me to go home. I know nothing about the card game anymore, and I tried being light-hearted and understanding just trying to get literally ANYTHING for them, but the condescending attitude towards me and left-out feeling I had made this a very regrettable and negative experience. He finished by telling me that I wouldn't be able to sell them ANYWHERE. I see the same cards I have, but much worse-conditioned, selling on eBay for up to $10 a piece. I decided to go to this store this month to see if they would take some Cards that I had lying around. The first time I came in I talked to Jack who was very nice. He told me I could come back and they would take a look at them to price them. So I returned a second time to walk into the shop and smell Marijuana in the air. I talked to Eathan, who was busy at the time and couldn't do what Jack said they could before. I decided to wait around and get a Snapple. Well Eahan told me that I had to have a 5 dollar minimum on my debit card so I grabbed two snapples and walked out. Finding this strange I walked back in today and told Ethan, I was back, as I said previously I'll be back, and brought it up to him. I told him how Fair Game in Downers, for which I've been going to for 8 years and playing games there has never done this before. He didn't understand me or what Fair Game was. The manager/owner was sitting at a table behind me then chimed in and asked if I was on drugs. I told him no and I was only making a suggestion that they should change this. He told me to leave and said have a nice day bud for which I told him the same and left the shop. Making a suggestion to a card shop like this shouldn't result in a rude refusal and being asked to leave in a rude way. Avoid Hot Sauce Games and never come here. Instead go to Fair Game. There's many FG shops and they know how to properly do business. read more

I always visit after visiting my favorite Chinese Food Restaurant next door. They have an interesting collection of pop figures, though some are a bit overpriced. I did find a few games that I happily bought from here. But it's not a comfortable place to want to walk through and shop. Not exactly the stores fault that they don't have adequate space.. but still, it's gotten a lot better since they've been open. So, I'm hoping that with more time to grow.. they can figure out a better layout for all the neat stuff to be displayed. The employees do not speak with you nor attempt to assist you as they would rather sloth around and be on their phones. This does not make for a great first impression. If you do manage to catch an employee's attention for more than just buying something then they'll likely hurry you along and provide as little insight as possible if my experiences are any indication of typical quality of service. Their prices are high and they offer extreme low ball offers to customers looking to sell things to them. Low offers are expected at these kinds of establishments, that is no surprise, but their offers are a good deal lower than what one would expect. Do not go to this store in search of getting any sort of value from your goods. I don't know why this store received such poor reviews. I have been coming to Hotsauce Games for years. One of the main reasons I drive 30 mins out of my way to game there is the sense of community. It's my, "Cheers." The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The off-site inventory is a thing of the past, thankfully. They even allow you to order online and pick up the order as long as you placed by 3pm on the day of ordering. The gaming room is adequate and adjustable to seating demands. I don't want to ramble on. Give Hotsauce Games a try, I'm sure you'll find your experience similar to mine rather than the other reviewers. read more

If you're looking for Magic The Gathering or other trading card game cards and supplies (Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh and Force of Will, mostly) this place is a good local resource. As for other games (Eurogames, RPGs) they have a few lying around but it isn't their focus. My experience is that their buy prices are pretty fair and reliable for a bricks and mortar store. Just bear in mind their business model works a lot better if you place an online order and use the store solely as a pick up point. Usually, I'll place an Internet order over my lunch hour, expect to get an email between 4 PM and 5 PM saying that my cards are ready for pick up, and then I swing by after work and get my order, no fuss and no shipping cost. On the other hand, because they don't keep all of their stock indexed and up front, there isn't a lot of point in just swinging by the store to see what they have for sale. It can be pretty annoying to ask for a card, and be told yeah they have a copy for a fair price, but they can't give it to you because you need to place an online order first. In terms of decoration and ambience, the store is no-frills and nothing fancy. It's kind of a hole in the wall frankly, and there really is no comparison between this store and Fair Game in Downers Grove, for instance. On the other hand, FG doesn't have the breadth of Hotsauce's cards, so they both have their niche. read more

Came in for the first time today to check out a local game store but left with an unpleasant feeling because of the interactions with the staff. Somewhat rude tones, person in the back who knew all the info wouldn't even talk face to face, just yelled from the back. I also said something wrong and got a snobbish response back. Decided to sell my Pokémon card collection, and fully expecting a lowball offer (if any). I couldn't have been more wrong! Not only was it a relief that they wouldn't buy my Japanese cards (which are the most important to me), they bought my American collection for $125! Employee behind the counter was clear and fair, and I was able to have a beer around the corner while she looked up each individual card's price point by hand. Great little shop. As someone who has been playing MTG for almost 20 years, I have to say: this place gets it right. Their staff was friendly and attentive, even though they were busy. They provided free food at a recent pre-release, as well as excellent prize support and fun door prizes. Their judging and support staff was excellent and their customers were generally polite people and fun to game with. Their space is comfortable, inviting, and clean. I visited this location for a TCGplayer event and was very impressed with the staff and the event they ran. I drove myself and four other player to the tournament, everyone had a great time. The tournament ran like clock work and everyone had a good time playing at their store. The Hotsauce Games owner made a point mingle around asking everyone how the tournament was going. As for the store, it was very clean store. The tables had enough room to accommodate "size" challenged player Magic tends to draws. The store was well stocked with cards and a wide selection of sleeves and gaming supplies. To conclude I would suggest trying out this venue for playing cards. I go to hotsauce games at least once a week. They are my favorite card game/ board game store. The store is well run and the staff is real nice. The store looks awesome now that' they just finished redecorating. They have the best selection around. It's a real nice enviroment I love going to, I especially love that when they don't have something in stock they get it within the day, and at the latest the next day. Hot Sauce Games is not a great place to go. For one they don't greet you when you walk in. They are least than helpful. Last they overprice their items. I don't know where they get these high prices on the funko pop for example because I saw one saying $45 and it was like $18 on funko tracking app so like I said I have no idea what they are thinking with these out rages prices anyways stay clear from this business unless you want to get ripped off. read more

I am new to gaming, but I do know something about people. My daughter got me to visit this place. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is more that a shop, this is where I find my daughter and her friends hanging out, safely socializing and learning about interacting with others through (card) games. In a time when our kids are hiding behind electronics, relying on the internet for entertainment, I'm happy to see there is a place for her to go where she has to play by the rules, win or lose, and communicate face to face. One of my frequented local gaming store. Good stock of sealed product, pretty decent stock of board games and a couple of the more popular tabletop minis games (x-wing, armada...). If there is something I can't find, I just ask, and it's there in a week or two. Store is on the small side, but I've never been in and not been able to sit down and play a board game at any table, so size doesn't seem to be an issue on a normal day. TIP I've learned from shopping there. This store is the same store that supplies cards for the same named hotsaucegames.com. If you're looking to browse, by all means, browse, but to get the best experience, and if you know what you are looking for, ORDER YOUR CARDS AHEAD OF TIME. You will more than likely save money on shipping, and then you can easily pop in, get what you need, and go about your day. Hot Sauce Games offers nice free yugioh tournaments on Thursdays. They give out generous prize support, and even a non-competitive player can win packs. Many of the duelists are competitive, however I would recommend it to a beginner because of how welcoming the environment is. They offer competitive prices, especially for their card sleeves. I just wish they would be more consistent with their store prices and their website prices, since most of the time it is cheaper to order online and pick it up at the store than to buy it at the store. read more

I have been going to the store for a few years now and I have never had any issues with the owner or the staff that I have dealt with personally. The store size is decent compared to other shops in the area and does offer the option to come in and play any game you see from board games to card games. The stores inventory is great for my needs and I know from dealing with their online stock that they proses my orders fast and have them ready when I walk in the next day. I recently went here with my friends to the 1k tournament they had a few days ago. I regret it. Not only is the store too small so it's hard to walk through (probably a fire hazard) The decor/ambient is second to none. The things adorning the walls are badly hung posters that advertise various product and card games. The Plumbing in this place is god-awful as well. I was playing at a table with my friend and there was a leak in the pipes over head. It messed with some of the cards we were using so we were forced to change seats and play elsewhere or risk having our cards ruined. You could honestly get better service at a graveyard, not only are the employees (most at least) ignorant to the needs of the customer (I had to wait about 3-4 minutes to get my question answered) Not to mention the main vendor/buyer at the store is arrogant and very impatient. He constantly gave me dirty looks when i turned down the prices he offered me on the cards i wanted to sell. I can go on forever with other negatives this store has but I have netter tings to do with my time. I don't plan coming back here anytime soon. Used to be awesome! Then they moved their product off site, now it is worthless to actually walk in. They are now just another internet business. If you think you might order from them, just go to TCGplayer and use their optimizer tool. Who knows, your product MIGHT just come from this place.
