I saw an advertisement for a shirt that was totally up my alley and decided to order that one and a couple others online to pick up at this store. When I went to pick it up I happened to see this backpack that I knew that my son would love. When I showed interest, the people working there said since I did a pick up order I would save an additional 25%. They tried to give me some suggestions on what I could buy since I was thinking about getting something for my daughter. When I told them I just wanted to look around, they let me look in peace. When it came time to purchase they told me I'd save another 10% for signing up for rewards. So I got my original shirts for a great deal, then got my son's backpack and something for my daughter as well for a great deal. I will say that the in store options were limited depending on what your fandom is. But ordering online and picking up was easy and I didn't have to pay for shipping. I'm really not one to leave bad reviews, but I had such an uncomfortable experience with Brielle (long pink hair) yesterday. I politely declined signing up for the rewards program, since I don't usually shop there. She kept pressuring me to sign up even after I said no thank you multiple times, even when I told her I was in a rush to get to a party. When I (still very politely) declined for the fourth time, she immediately dropped her fake nice customer service voice, angrily rang me up, then coldly tossed my bag of items on the counter and just walked away. I said thank you, have a nice day, and she just said "mhm" in a cold tone. It was really hurtful. I was nothing but kind to her, and she treated me like garbage because she didn't get what she wanted from me. It especially hurts as a fellow retail worker, since I know how much it sucks and was being really apologetic for not signing up. read more

I collect Disney pins and Hot Topic has a large collection of Loungefly mystery pin sets. This would be my go to place to "look around" and get my pins. My kids and I were in Los Angeles for the weekend, so they decided to go around town to look for more additions to their Funko Pop collection. First on their list was this Hot Topic location inside the Westfield Valencia Town Center. There was a long line when we arrived since the store was only allowing 8 people inside due to this Covid-19 pandemic. At least, the store worried about it's customers' safety and well-being. Everyone was asked to put on a mask when entering the store, even the employees had them on. And after every customer checked out their purchases, the staff checkout staff disinfected the area before taking in the next customer. My kids found a few Funko Pop items they needed. I don't understand the craze for these, but since I am an avid model kit collector as well, I cannot complain about my kids' hobbies. There are other items inside the store worth a look at, like shirts and other collectible items. But today, it was Funko Pops... It's really hard to figure out the direction of Hot Topic with lots of Marvel and DC items....next to Adventure Time plush....next to Little Mermaid sweatshirts....adjacent to Slipknot t-shirts. Service here is usually good, although it can be on the slow side, and I promised myself I'd never be the old guy complaining about the music being too loud (or maybe it's just Eminem that does it?). My daughter and her friends really like the place, they are 13, so that probably sums it up there. They used to be a publicly held company but were bought out and are now privately held so obviously there is lots of money being made here, even if they can't find an identity. read more

I have something to confess. If you don't know already, I'm sort of a POP addict, as in Funko Pops. Those cute, adorable pop vinyl figures suck you in once you've purchased just one, and that's all it takes: ONE. That one is thee gateway to your POP addiction. You think, "oh, it's just SO cute, I am only going to get this one..." then folks, that's where your wallet and willpower succumbs, because truth is, you just can't have one!! And that's where Hot Topic comes into play, they're a major supplier. Over the last few years, the 'great wall of POPs' has grown slowly but surely so whenever you pop into a HT, you won't be able to miss the stacks on stacks of Pops. I've become a frequent customer of this HT as it's local to where I live. Staff member Rick is awesome and will reserve some pops for me if I can't make it in right away, making the life of a collector SO much less stressful! Service overall is pretty good, always greeting customers as they stroll in and asking if there is help locating any specific item. There are times however when the customer to staff ratio puts a strain on customer service, but that's to be expected with any venue that is packed with customers. This HT location is located inside Westfield Valencia mall, second floor just a few doors over from Macy's. It's one of the bigger-medium sized locations but still, there are lots of items to look at making you tread the floor with caution. Fun items ranging from whatever is usually trending, Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Pusheen (that darn cute cat, I've been suckered into buying those plush dolls!), rock band t-shirts, Funko Pop shirts, POPs, Hikari, lunchpails, slippers, robes, cosplay clothing, shoelaces, key chains.. and list goes on and on. To top it off, they frequently have promotions going on throughout the year, which validates those seemingly unnecessary purchases. **Keep note of your 'Hot Cash' also, I hate when they expire! Today was my sons birthday (just turned 10) and my family (wife, son, daughter) went out looking for Fortnite clothing in Westfield Valencia mall as thats his favorite game. We stumbled across the store Hot Topic in the mall and decided to go inside and give it a shot as we may get lucky finding something there. When we went in, we saw a worker putting up shirt signs/patterns high up on the wall via a ladder on the right side of the store somewhat close to the front. We walked over to the worker (Jade) and asked her nicely did they carry any Fortnite clothing and she mentioned it was all the way down to the left facing front from where she was positioned. We said thank you and made our way in that direction. We didn't see anything where she pointed to so we decided to make our way back in her direction slowly as possibly we passed it up. A minute later we saw the shirts and started to look for what my son desired. While we were standing there looking for sizes/etc, about 3 minutes later, Jade moved from where she was at with her ladder and put/slid it right in front of us (she was approximately 12 ft away initially) as if she didn't even see all four of us standing there like we didn't exist. In my head, I'm thinking that was very rude/crazy and unsure why she would put a ladder directly on top of us while we were shopping there in that tight little space. We ignored it and continued looking for the right size which was a small. While we were holding up shirts looking for the right size, I happened to put 2 XXS shirts in which I grabbed earlier and decided to temporarily put it on the back of the ladder as it was literally on top of us. Not too long afterwards, Jade told us to move the shirts as its a safety hazard with a rude tone. I was puzzled as the shirts were super light and couldn't fathom the safety hazard concern she had but I respected her wishes and moved it in addition to touching the ladder to make sure it wasn't as fragile as she was making it. While I was moving the shirts, I asked her 'why did you move the ladder right in front of us as that was the true safety hazard?' She replied 'all you had to do was ask me to move it' with a rude tone. I responded 'why would I even have to ask you to do something like that when its something that should be common sense from a safety hazard perspective? You literally saw us standing here?'. She again repeated the same thing which was 'all you had to do was ask me to move it' with a rude tone again. My wife begin to reiterate the same thing I was saying but immediately asked for a manager as clearly she has no professionalism in her but most important poor customer service. Jade ignored my wife and begin to make her way down the ladder and move it to the back of the store. We waited for her to return at the checkout area and continued to ask for a manager. She told us in a rude voice she is the manager and her manager has left for the day and will return tomorrow in which we can come back then with our concerns. We then started to ask for the general manager information or a number in which we could call and she went into a drawer and gave us a small piece of paper with a 1-800 number on it. Afterwards, we asked for her name and managers name so we could use it for reporting purposes. She gave us her first name but not the last name and we asked why and she mentioned it was for security purposes. We started to ask for more information such as stores number/etc as anyone would for reporting purposes. Jade started to take offense and basically told us she is going to call security as she doesn't have to put up with this matter. My wife and I were clearly confused by then and mentioned we're not doing anything but trying to get enough adequate information for reporting purposes. She picked up the phone and called security. While this was going on, I observed another lady (Bnelle) standing right in the checkout area folding clothes or something and started to communicate our concerns to her as possibly she could be helpful. I politely asked who she was and she said she was the manager. Obviously I'm super shocked now as Jade just said not too long ago the manager has left for the day. I told Bnelle everything that happened and requested for the information wee were trying to get from Jade and she provided it. By then the security guard was there and nothing happened as matters weren't serious to get kicked out of the mall or anything. Once we got the information we left the store. While I was walking away, I looked back and saw Bnelle whisper in Jades ear something. Her body language clearly showed that she was playing things off as if the matter didn't need addressed. Once we all walked out of the store, I called the 1-800 number and reported this incident that sadly my kids had to experience as well. I have loved Hot Topic since I was in high school. It's a place you get a T-shirt of your favorite band and other cool memorabilia. This is my go-to shop for Disney and Harry Potter trinkets. They always have the newest and coolest things from clothing to bags to accessories. The staff at the store are very nice, warm and helpful. At least two ladies that I have encountered when I've come into the store. What was disappointing was my online order. I opted to have my package shipped at this store to save on shipping cost. I was never notified that my order had arrived. I checked the order status online and it had arrived 2 weeks prior to my inquiry. I called the store and they refused to look up my order with an email confirmation. I contacted their 1-800 customer service line that told me to just ask the store to double check if my order was there. As you can tell, I got the runaround. 10 phone calls to customer service later, I was finally able to retrieve my package. The dress I ordered was too small so with my receipt in hand and the dress in tact (tags and all) I was told that I could not get a refund because I paid with PAYPAL! This was frustrating to say the least. They need to have a warning during online checkout that says, "PayPal orders are NON REFUNDABLE." read more

I came in for some last minute shopping. Alana and Lyndi were so welcoming and helpful. Lyndi understood my concerns with the sizes and gave me helpful tips on which clothing would be true to size. I found that very helpful, as I have always struggled with finding clothing that actually fits. Alana was more than pleasant in directing me to what I needed and was eager to answer any and all of my questions. Polite and helpful staff This store opened a really long time ago and in this "conservative" town it was a bit taboo. I was told not to shop here. I was told it's for "other" people. Yes, let's be totally honest I have bought shirts and a lot of make up and a lot of accessories from this store. There are beautiful dresses but they are meant for someone who is 100% confident in themselves and knows exactly what they are offering the world. I think that's why I like this store so much. This store isn't cookie cutter. This store doesn't sell what I can buy at 5 other stores in every color. This store sells things that allow you to be you. You can express yourself and be whoever you want to be. I know that's a lot for a store to express but think about it for just a minute. Every store is selling you an image. Every store is trying to tell you who to be and what to wear so that others can judge you. Hot Topic just is. They don't care if you judge them. They don't care if you don't like them. Your best source for trendy, retro apparal. Lots of stuff based on video games, TV shows, music. Stuff those of us in our late 20's will remember fondly from our youth. I love the old Nintendo and Marvel comics shirts. They used to have a much better selection of metal shirts, but now they've gravitated towards more hardcore or emo music, which doesn't suit my taste so well, but now and then I'll find a shirt for an esoteric band I really dig, like Immortal. What my aunt used to refer to as "The devil's store" for their vampirism kits (haven't seen that sort of thing here in ages). The music is loud, the staff is tatted out, but you walk into a store like this you have to know what you're getting into. They used to have a fair selection of music, but that's shrunk dramatically recently. I can't say I'm too surprised by that, between the growing use of iTunes and the generally high price of their CDs. Worth a look, and I'll often find a few t-shirts to my liking. read more

The people there were nice and I was able to get some items for my neices and nephew so they could continue to non-conform "like all of their friends". Had a very unpleasant experience here today. Earlier in the week I had purchased a t-shirt for my granddaughter. It didn't fit. I had the receipt but the tags were no longer on the shirt. The cashier at the store accused us of washing the t-shirt "because it smells like detergent." We had not washed it, only tried it on to find it didn't fit. I told her this but she did not believe us. She reluctantly allowed my granddaughter to choose a different shirt that did fit but made it very clear that she did not believe us and said she would be forced to mark the returned shirt as damaged. It was embarrassing to be accused of lying when we were not. I will not be returning to this store and my granddaughter will shop elsewhere. I have been shopping in this town for 37 years but Hot Topic will not be one I ever step foot into again. read more

We recently made an ill-advised retail therapy trip to a Hot Topic outlet in Lake Elsinore, and managed to rack up about $45 in "Hot Cash" -- coupons redeemable for a week in July . Each one gave $15 off a purchase of $30, so we ended up at our local Hot Topic here in Valencia last week to cash in our winnings. This store was nice! I remember frequenting Hot Topics as a teenager, but haven't really been in one in about fifteen years (aside from the retail therapy craziness in Lake Elsinore). I found it nostalgic, in a way -- much of the stuff I was obsessed with as a child is coming back. TMNT, Lilo & Stitch (Disney in general), Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, NES, etc. The staff was cool, too. Helpful on the floor, jokey and friendly at the register. Now that our kid is nearing that "hell yeah I want that Minecraft shirt" stage, we'll probably be seeing them more and more. read more

I bought an item in Septmember here not knowing it was a Halloween item. The back said the item may be returned if the product was not mangled with and still had original everything. I went back October first to return it because I did not need it and the manger said that it was a Halloween item and was not refundable. I showed her the back of the item and she told me it didn't matter because the receipt says Halloween items are final sale. I then told her that they should get there products that say that on the back and cross it out because that causes confusion. She told me to take it to another hot topic and try returning it there. My best friend and I went in looking for a Zootopia pop for her little brother & we walked in to see they had 4 shelves of Pops with more then 3 rows on each shelf. We were so overwhelmed but Summer the associate walked over & asked us if we needed help with anything so we told her we were looking for the bunny from Zootopia and she looked it up & told us they only had four & that meant it could be anywhere on this huge wall but she offered to help us and we said we'll try to find it and if we don't we would ask her but 10 mins past and we couldn't find it but instead of us going to her she came to us to check in & started helping us. I spent about 10 minutes looking through stickers as I was looking for a very specific one and about half way through, an employee asked if I needed help and I respectfully replied no thank you. I felt her constant presence around me and when I was ready to check out she started interrogating me as if I had been doing something wrong and basically made the situation very uncomfortable for me as I was confused as to why she kept asking so many questions.
