I had tried yoga many, many times over many decades. But, after one class at Hot Yoga Capitol Hill, I couldn't wait to try it again ... and again. And, I just keep coming back. This yoga studio is the true meaning of community. New people are celebrated, regulars greet each other with genuine affection. The teachers here are wonderful - very encouraging and flexible in helping new students acclimate to this vigorous practice. There are also several one hour classes, so you do not have to plunge into the 90 minute classes right away. The space itself is just the right size. Small enough so that the teachers do not need sound equipment, yet large enough for 20 or more people. The changing rooms and showers are clean and pleasant. I also really like the diversity of the students, from teenagers to retirees. Classes reflect the neighborhood, making everyone feel welcome. Definitely a five star experience! read more

Hot & Very Sweaty: My take away for this studio. I was brought here on Valentine's Day (apparently my boyfriend thinks I need to sweat more). We arrived a little late for the 12:00 class so my first impression of the receptionist wasn't the best. But we take the fault for that. She was serving as receptionist and instructor and our lateness was impeding on her class being able to start on time. I was a bit taken back by the fact that a mat and a towel rental were $2 each. I'm hoping the 2$ dollars goes into the deep clean that they hopefully do on those towels cuz they are loaded with sweat at the end of the class. The facility is really nice. The bathrooms are kind of small. There is only one toilet in the ladies room. I like that the lockers don't require you to bring your own lock. Everything looked really clean. My boyfriend told me this was a beginners class but it felt very intimidating, doable, nonetheless. The instructor, Lashone was very calm and helpful throughout the class. I felt encouraged by her instruction. It didn't feel beginner because there were ALOT of experienced people in there. They new the next move and how to breathe and there really was no instruction on how the class goes. Another con is that they offer an unlimited month of classes for $40 if your a first timer. I thought that was a great deal but my schedule wouldn't allow me to use it to it's full benefit. If I could use it in summer when I am out of school that would be more useful. But they require you use it from the time frame of your first class. Overall it was a great first time experience and I would come back. read more

There aren't many times in your life that you can spend 60 minutes in a 100+ degree room and come out saying that you absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. I have never been so aware of my body than when I was in this class. I have to give a lot of credit to the instructor Ms. Lashone. She was so patient and inviting. Every time i told myself "...my body can't move that way...", she would come by almost as if she could hear that thought and encourage me to do as much as I could possibly do. Visiting from Out of town we stopped for 9 am bikram class. This was my first time and although I love a good vinyasa flow, this style of yoga really helped my balance and taught me to slow down in my practice. We came because online we saw a $10 drop in special, but that was only on Sunday's. We paid ($24) for drop in rate which I thought was extremely expensive. Also; I as displeased by the smell of the studio and that the floor wasn't cleaned in between classes. read more

I wanted to wait until I had a couple of classes under my belt before writing this review. First off, I am an experienced yoga practitioner,but took an 8 year break. Let's just say life happened, stress, bad diet, bad boyfriends you name it. I decided to get back into my practice and chose the most brutal form of yoga out there....and I"m glad I did. I have taken 2 friday night classes with Allison for the Hot 26 Express + Music...and I can't tell you how excited I am to buy a package and make this my regular end-of-the-week routine. It used to be happy hours, bars and whatever random joint I could find. Now, it's about focusing on myself,my health, my form and putting my phone away for an hour which is an accomplishment all in itself. I stumble, I fall, I push myself to do better each time..and Allison is very friendly, yet motivating and pushes you to get back up and just do it. I"m excited to see where my progress goes as time goes on...after all it's called a Yoga Practice..not Yoga Perfection. I took advantage of the studio's introductory discount of $39 for unlimited classes and I truly enjoyed Hot Yoga Capitol Hill. There is a true sense of community and a sense of family. Initially, my plan was to take as many classes with various instructors but after taking classes with five different instructors, I fell in love with the energy and teaching style of LaShone (her hot Pilates & Hip Hot Pi-Yo) made me feel like a warrior and I was captivated by the teachings and aura of Mariam (her Barre class is fantastic! I felt like Misty Copeland in her class (smile). I won't diminish other instructors because their teaching styles and energy might suit others, but for me Lukas class wasn't my favorite. His style was to shout commands and he wasn't engaging and wasn't that friendly when trying to correct yoga stance. Kayleigh was kind, but there was no connection with her- the class was very robotic. Lastly, Cincere's hot Pilates was fun, but brutal. He was ok, but after taking his class I was so used and impressed with LaShone's pilates style, I just wanted to attend her Pilates. Note, even though you know this is hot yoga, be prepared for the dry heat. I have done hot yoga other places, but the heat here is almost like a radiator dry heat. It won't interfere with your sessions, but it's a different heat. I would highly recommend this location. read more

I haven't been to Bikram in a while when my girlfriend insisted we go to early morning class at Capitol Hill. Boy am I glad. I normally practice in NYC so I love getting introduced to new communities and new formats of Bikram classes. The studio itself is pretty chill with some of the newer mat type flooring. The community has so much energy which is a huge kudos for a 730am Saturday class. Our teacher was Lara who is also the part owner of the studio. Not only was the heat just right, I loved how quickly she moved us through the one hour version of Bikram. Most of the series were done with two sets and we even added in a couple vinyasa and sun salutations to boot. On some of the second sets of poses, I love how Lara suggested advanced or different versions of the poses. Ie second set of triangle was birds of paradise (not for the faint of heart!) If i lived in the area I would definitely come here more often. I plan to visit more often when I am in the area to see friends and family. Also my favorite D.C. Instructor also teaches here on Sundays. So if you are so fortunate to see Elizabeth Falk Keith on the schedule definitely go! read more

I stumbled across this place on groupon and am so excited that I did! I began on Tuesday and have been attending everyday! I have had three instructors thus far, my first instructor was David G. He has been very instrumental and influential in what I have learned. He has corrected me on my form and provided me with a ton of support. He has a great pace. I also had Allison K and she too has a great tempo and energy. She also has a nice sense of humor. Most recently, I had LaShone W and I truly appreciated her! Her yoga has a different flare. One, her class had music. Then he sets, pace, target areas- were pleasantly different from the other classes that I had participated in. I loved it so much! I love how much I sweat, make sure you come here ready to be drencheddd. The studio is a perfect size. The locker room is pretty small. There's one bathroom stall, three showers, one bench...Theres maybe 12 or so lockers (Ive always been able to secure a locker). There are towels and water available for a small fee but i suggest that you just bring your own. There's street parking available, H street can be a struggle sometimes but it usually works out. read more

I've been practicing here 5-7 times/week for the last year and it has become my home away from home. Every teacher on the schedule is kind and obviously cares deeply about the students and the classes they teach. I especially love LaShone's 7am Wednesday class, Lara's 6:15am Tuesday and Friday, Twan's Monday at 530pm, and Ambers 6:30pm tuesday class, but you really can't go wrong. I'm moving away from DC and this will be one of my most missed places and people! read more

Hot, Hot, HOT! My sister has been a devotee of Bikram for over a year now, and it's done wonders for her. I'm old school...I'll lift weights until I give myself a hernia and though I detest running, I'll do it if I must. But lately, I've been in a workout slump and after much prodding from my now toned and relaxed little sis, I took the 30 or so steps from my studio workplace to Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill to see what it was all about. Elizabeth, the owner, was very welcoming and reassuring when she gave me the tour of the small, cozy and oh-so-toasty, facility. DC in July is a refrigerated affair when indoors, but the lobby of BYCH was quite warm...probably just as warm there as on the street at 4:30. But that wasn't squat compared to what I was in for. Bikram, from what my sister and Elizabeth shared, is based on Hatha yoga exercises performed in a super heated room. And it ain't just hot, it's humid. They have a waterfall, guaranteed to keep it tropical. The heat and humidity aid in helping the muscles stretch and relax and to work deeper. It also makes you sweat like a buffalo on the plains (and smell just as good), aiding in flushing toxins from the body. Okay, that sounds easy enough. I like the heat, I can pull off a few yoga poses. No problemo. Yea right. We all laid down and chilled out for a few moments before Elizabeth began the class. It was warm in there...but she cranked it up to Equatorial strength and started the class. In less than 10 minutes, I was a soaked as if I had run a marathon and I thought my lungs were going to collapse. Elizabeth isn't a sadist...thank the gods...and she encouraged my beginner self to just lie still if I needed to. Oh to heck with that...I had to go out into the lobby TWICE to keep from passing out. The 85 degree lobby now felt cool. I'm guessing that this is a Bikram faux-pas on my part, but it was that or pass out. Thankfully, Elizabeth was understanding and encouraging when I re-entered as soon as I felt able. We pretzel-ed ourselves and held poses for 90 minutes of sheer, sweaty, heart pounding hell. And you know what? It was the best workout I have EVER HAD. Last night, I was relaxed for the first time in ages and this morning, I felt as though I had challenged myself with every weight for every body part in a conventional gym. I'm sore..but it's the good kind. I can't wait for the next class. Classes are offered daily. The prices are a bit steep @ $15 per class, although an Intro week price of $20 for as many classes you want to take for 7 days is available. BYCH also offers private instruction upon request. There are showering facilities as well, and you can rent towels and mats if you need to for an extra dollar. Bikram Yoga on Capitol Hill is a very unique physical and mental challenge and worth giving a try. read more

This was my first time in D.C. and my friend thought it would be a great idea to go to a yoga class. He mentioned it would be hot yoga and since I hate being cold I figured this would be a breeze for me. Upon entering the studio we were greeted by Allison who was also our instructor for the 6am class. She created a profile for me since I was a new student and directed me to my mat and towel. Once I entered the class the heat HIT me immediately. This was not the heat that I was expecting at all. It felt like a sauna and for those familiar with hot yoga I had no idea it would feel like that Lol. I am so happy I wore shorts and a sports bra. The class was 90 mins long and I was a bit nervous that I may not be able to complete the course. Allsion's voice was so motivating. Not only is she good at directing your poses but she pays attention to each person and she remembers your name. She noticed each time I was feeling unsure about a pose and she never made me feel out of place if I had to stop. It's obvious that the students enjoy her and if I lived here I would definitely attend more of her classes. Once the class was complete everyone clapped for us since we were beginners. Great class. Great workout for the body. If you don't have towels, water, or a mat you can rent or purchase those items there. Parking can be a bit tricky as with any street parking so make sure to pay attention to the signs. read more

I'm a plus size gal and I can say I felt no pressure or insecurities trying this for the first time. We got help on how to work on poses as a beginner while trying to master the program. I've only been doing Bikram a couple months now and have really loved it! I have a fused lower back and the heat has helped improve my flexibility immensely. I'm incredibly grateful to the instructors at Cap Hill like Johnathan and Allison for being so accommodating and really making the class enjoyable. However, they don't take much time to help beginners so you're kind of just winging it and hoping for the best. Also, some of the instructors don't support the most positive environment, but they have a big enough staff you can usually find a time and instructor that works for you. On top of that, the spa yoga class with Alba is amazing! It's the best way to close out the week with her soothing sounds and helpful gestures. Plus the gentle massages to help you better get into poses is great. The only drawbacks is the facility isn't the best. The padded mats covering the floor do not receive enough cleaning. At best one of the work-study student may wipe them down with a towel or spray some disinfectant in between classes, but there's rarely enough time in between students filing out from on class and the next class coming in to set up. It also doesn't smell like it ever gets aired out to reset the circulation. But if you can get past the low-key ick factor, it's a great place. Plus if you live on H Street you can't beat the location and the prices aren't bad! read more

An H Street gem, this studio offers a range of hot classes, showers, teacher training, workshops, and treatments. My personal favorite class is Hip Hot Piyo, a mash up of hot pilates and hot yoga set to music. I used this particular class with the intent of getting beach ready for a holiday trip and it was successful. The primary Hip Hot Piyo instructor, LaShone, provided the workout I needed to get right in just a few weeks. LaShone is a gem! Her spirit, encouragement, energy, and playlists are fantastic! Cincere's hot pilates class is also a favorite. Challenging and upbeat, his classes will leave you feeling stronger than when you started. Parking is usually not an issue on the street in the area. They offer a great intro rate for your first month and Groupon deals as well. Unfortunately, they don't currently take ClassPass. read more

I absolutely loved the content of the class but wish the music was more modern and at a lower volume. This is being picky, but i wish the washer dryer area upstairs was hidden. Regardless, I love this place! Our instructor was so kind and treated us individually. She even made sure that each person could see themselves in the mirror during practice! Afterwards she gave us a little snack and some kombucha to elevate our blood sugar. She cares about our bodies and our overall experience of the practice. I can't wait to come back. read more

I would compare my relationship with bikram to the classic teen movie, "She's All That": The Popular Guy (Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill) and the Nerdy Girl (me) come together because of a bet (or, in this case, yoga week). They hate each other at first (have you ever exercised in a room heated to 110 degrees?!), but with a makeover (total-body toning) from Popular Guy's sister (yoga instructor Tonia) and a wardrobe change [from yoga pants & a t-shirt to super short shorts and a sports bra (the dreaded pony tail remains)], Popular Guy and Nerdy Girl start to warm to one another (although I guess at 110 degrees, they more than "warm"). When Nerdy Girl becomes aware of the bet (or, that she bought a month's unlimited pass and is determined to get her money's worth), she hates Popular Guy for causing her so much pain (insanely sore muscles). Nerdy Girl takes Sleezy Jock to prom (...ok, I've got nothing here), then realizes that she and Popular Boy are meant to be together forever (or until my bank account realizes the hit it's about to take by signing up for another month of unlimited classes). They kiss and live happily ever after, beautiful and in love, perfect for one another. Man, teen movies really DO echo real life. read more

I love saunas. I love yoga. But I'm just not one of those people who is joining the cult of hot yoga. It was one of my most unpleasant voluntary experiences in recent memory. As a studio, I would rank Bikram Capitol Hill 4 stars. The reception staff person was professional and friendly. They use MindBody online like many other yoga studios in the area, which makes class signups and purchasing easy. Their website is very informative and user friendly (thank you for the special Living Social section). As for the studio itself, there is a small changing area, and lockers for you to leave your stuff. No mat storage available. Mat and towel rentals available. Thank you for the water cooler in the back as well. Now, anyone who reads my reviews on a regular basis knows I can be value oriented. If a normal walk-in class here is $16, and I got the Living Social for $25 for up to 5 classes = I should go to at least 2 classes to make it worth it, right? I'm only going to go to one, and here's why. Keeping in mind that this was my first (and last) hot yoga experience, I think I learned that there are a lot of masochists out there and I'm not one of 'em. I was massively nauseated and dizzy by the end of the warmup. I drank plenty of water before class, not eaten a huge meal 2-3 hours beforehand, and had water available as they suggested on their site. I really did not like my instructor's style. My instructor, while experienced, seemed to lack sensitivity to people's pain, and threw out instructions at rapid-fire auctioneer speed. One gem was, "It's like an Indian marriage! You have no choice in this pose." and "Don't drink water just because you don't want to do the pose." I've never NOT wanted to participate in a yoga class before until now. Nothing like feeling sick in a 90 minute class (quite a bit longer than a standard yoga class), with an instructor barking orders. However, nothing feels better than the cold lavender face towel in Shavasana at the end. In summary, hot yoga is not for me. But if you're into that kind of thing, in the other basics of a yoga studio, Bikram does pretty well. read more

Like so many others, I took advantage of the groupon month-long pass at Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill. While I've practiced Bikram on and off for about four years now, this is only the second studio I've been to in DC, Bikram Dupont being my usual go-to, and so I can't help but to compare my experience at the Capitol Hill studio with the one in Dupont. First off, let me say that I really enjoy Bikram yoga and find it to be really challenging as well as energizing. So this is not a review on Bikram or my experience practicing it, which I believe too many of the other reviews have emphasized. I think practicing Bikram is a process and takes a lot of time and effort initially to adjust to, so if you try out Bikram at any studio for the first time (or the first three or four times) I don't think that speaks much to the studio itself but to working through the uncomfortable initial process (for most) of adjusting to Bikram. So, on the studio, I think my biggest critique is the layout of the yoga room itself. It's just a long, narrow room that fits three closely packed rows of mats (and people) at max capacity. I ended up feeling really squushed in the room, with too little space between me and the people to either side of me (and in front and back of me). This certainly made it more difficult to stay focused and concentrate on the postures. The room's narrow, rectangle shape makes it feel crowded and claustrophobic, which is hard to bear when the temperature is already over 100 degrees to begin with. The mat placement (designated by tape on the floor) is much more spaced out at Bikram Dupont. The Dupont studio is also housed in an old brownstone, so the yoga room itself has a funky layout which prohibits people from being packed along the wall in a straight line like a can of sardines. There's also only one large window at the front end of the narrow room at Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill, which only adds to the feeling of claustrophobia. And trust me, if the hot room temperature makes you uncomfortable in the first place, feeling cramped and claustrophobic on top of that will not lead to a good class experience. Secondly, it seemed difficult for the instructors to regulate the room temperature at Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill and it often became overheated. Every class I attended the instructor would have to open the door to cool down the room. This is certainly not good and I think speaks to the room's poor aeration and overcrowdedness. Certainly one of the goals of Bikram is to stay in the room and withstand the heat. Having to open the door during class is disruptive and again makes it harder to stay focused. The minute you feel that gust of cool air pass through the room all you're thinking about is getting out of that sauna! I think the greater number of windows, higher cielings, and wooden floors of the Dupont studio help the room absorb any excess heat and keep the temperature consistent. One good thing I'll say about the capitol hill studio is that they provide ice cold, lavendar towels to everyone as soon as the class ends. This is certainly a nice touch!! As far as locker rooms and other facilities I would say both studios have clean facilities, although the women's locker room (can't speak for the men's) at the Dupont studio is more spacious. Bottom line: If you value personal space and hesitate at the thought of spending 90 minutes in a hot, enclosed space, I would not recommend the capitol hill studio. P.S. You'll notice that in this long review I mentioned nothing about instructors. That's because the instructor whose class I most often took at Bikram Capitol Hill primarily works at the Dupont studio and is an AMAZING instructor. And neither studio can be credited for that. I would choose to take his class at McDonald's if he decided to offer it there. No, I'm serious. read more

I did a 60-minute Hot 26, which was basically Bikram. Allison struck a great balance between challenging and encouraging. The vibe in the studio was good and the space was pretty nice. I'd never tried Bikram yoga before, so it seemed a perfect opportunity when my friend mentioned the classes he was taking in Cap Hill. Easy to park around the neighborhood and easy to find, I walked in to meet my buddy and sign in at the front desk. The guy at the front desk, who ended up being the teacher for my class, was pushy to say the least. He was giving me the hard up-sell to sign for their first-timer weekly special. No thanks, I informed him, I can't make any other classes this week, I'm busy, I'll just pay for a single drop-in fee. "Come on!", he insisted. No really, I can't make any other nightly class this week. "How about the weekend?" Sorry, can't do that either, I'm hosting a seminar this weekend. "Yeah right!" he said with an incredulous look. Wtf? S on this T. The fact that I'm giving this place 4 stars after that pleasant introductory exchange should speak volumes about the rest of my experience. For those who have never done Bikram, it's like putting on your favorite ski jacket in the middle of summer and running a marathon. I appreciated the fact that the studio didn't smell like you might imagine 3 dozen people sweating in a non-ventilated room might smell. It was brightly lit with a wall full of mirrors. Mr. Salesman entered the room at the start of class and put on a headset. His accent and the sub-par acoustics made comprehension a bit difficult at first, but there were plenty of experienced classmates to mimic. He walked around the class the whole time and gave personal corrections to absolutely ever one during the next hour and a half. The class went at a great pace with occasional jokes thrown in by the teacher to keep the mood light-hearted in the heat. A shower at the end was essential, and I left feeling much more relaxed and loose, ready to replace all those released toxins down the street in the Atlas district. read more

I am warning you.... never go here. I made the mistake of buying the newcomer deal without every going to this studio. Big mistake. I would actually rather lose the money from the newcomer deal then ever step foot in this studio again. As soon as you walk into the one yoga room, you are bombarded with the scent of years of sweat. Instead of a wood floors, the floor is covered in some weird rubber mat. Just by looking at it you are already grossed out. The word staph infection kept coming through my mind. Besides the general unhygienic look of the mat, it also stank! In yoga-especially Bikram- you are encouraged to breath through your nose. Well I almost wanted to vomit from the stink of the mat. Especially during floor poses. The only positive thing I can say about this place is that the teacher was good. However, I wish that he taught somewhere else. read more

I love yoga; I really do. I love how I feel after (physically and mentally). I didn't love this class. Let's start with good: I don't get reviews that said there wasn't a changing room (or that it wasn't big enough) or that there aren't showers, etc. The are showers (2 I think), which is 2 more than I usually see (I don't particularly need or look for them, so it's never on my radar). Also, the upstairs changing room is PLENTY spacious (way bigger than the non-existent changing area at Capitol Hill Yoga -- which, who cares; the yoga is FANTASTIC). Anyway, there's plenty of room, showers, lockers with combo locks, a fan, hairdryers; it's great, actually. The stairs are kind of steep....? But really, it's a row house; what did you expect? It totally didn't bother me at all. You're going to get that here on The Hill (or in NYC). The class was super hot, and I liked it. I felt dizzy a few times, but that's to be expected. It's been a while, and I was out of practice. And we had plenty of water breaks. What I didn't like: the instructor (Tania). It was just RAPID-FIRE YELLING poses AT YOU. It wasn't relaxed, I felt rushed, I felt panicked. Even though I am really good at tuning things out and breathing in and letting it go, her VOICE, her commands, her yelling....I hated it. It was nauseating. Honestly. The only peace I had was during the water breaks. I will try the studio again, but will most likely avoid her class. read more

I think most people either love or hate Bikram. My first experience with it was at this studio, and I actually really liked it as a physical practice for the couple months I kept at it. It's nothing less than exhilarating. On a basic level, this studio is friendly, clean, and relatively spacious (as far as city yoga studios go). Except that when you get as sweaty as you do in Bikram, you really actually need more space after class to dry off or attempt to peel away your stuck-on clothes. Or, you know, find a place to lie down before you faint... Since every class is EXACTLY the same, I found it important to find a teacher who I liked enough to make me want to do it all over again, and there were one or two at this studio who I would recommend. However, while there is certainly a healthy benefit of this kind of practice, after a while the cult-ish nature of Bikram began to bother me. You are encouraged to do 30 or 60 day non-stop challenges, and I understand this is to try to maintain a dedicated practice, but when the intensity of the experience requires you to rearrange your life completely, it seems to me that you lose a little of the balance that yoga was supposed to be giving you. Don't get me wrong, I am all for having a regular yoga practice and having it be a central part of your life. And for the people who have found happiness with Bikram and perhaps need the strong structure it provides, I would not want to take it away from them. But for me, Bikram began to feel like just another experience one could get addicted to and have overtake your life, and without any additional guidance in the classes about living your yoga off the mat, I eventually found the practice to be a bit empty. read more

Dilemma -- I love this place in large part because it is NOT crowded, maintains a very intimate feel, and is so new and nice that it feels very clean and NOT smelly and NOT sweaty. So -- do I write its praises on Yelp and risk having crowds showing up making it NOT not crowded, NOT intimate, and no longer new and nice and taking on a rank odor??? Then I realized that yoga studios in DC and any other urban area are all about *location*. People aren't going to trek all the way to H St. for yoga when they can go to Dupont or U St. And while I personally LOVE and ADORE this place SO MUCH, I'm sure other Yelpers love and adore their neighborhood yoga studio within 10 blocks of their house just as much. Or else don't want to take the risk of coming to a new area like the "Atlas Theater District" that's not established. So more yoga for me! Yay! Let me start with saying I love Bikram Yoga. It's a relaxing and wonderful activity and especially for those who don't mind heat. However, I did not care for this studio. The floor grossed me out and I only a few inches between each mat was not appealing. Also, the room overheated during the class (I didn't know that was really possible) and they had to open the door. It was kind of weird. I don't think I would go again as it's out of the way (a bit of a walk from Union Station). read more

Class was lead by Allison. She provides such detailed instruction and she really explains the postures while working hard to make sure all practitioners safe wherever they are in each posture. Great class, beautiful studio. read more

I was a little scared after reading people's reviews, but my experience was wonderful. My advice is, just go to the first class of the day if you can. The mat is fresh and clean...you can tell people sweat in it every day, but it's not a big deal. The teacher was cute and petite, and totally sweet.....that rhymed! Yay for me. Anyway, I enjoyed the class and it was the traditional bikram to the t, so if you practice, you will appreciate that. I have been to other studios who have the same heating system which flows through what looks like a huge air bag vent with holes in it across the room. There appears to be humidifiers there, but those are usually used by teachers who desire a hot and super juicy session. I observed a lady wiping down the floor after our session was complete. There are bathroom facilities upstairs for men and women (restroom, sink, showers, and lockers). If you do not feel comfortable leaving your personal belongings out, then I would recommend bringing a lock. The cost for the sessions is pretty standard in comparison to any yoga studio I have ever been to. I rented a mat and purchased a bottle of water which were $2 each. The teacher mentioned that pretty much anything (including towel rental) is $2. She made conversation with me and was friendly. Overall, I would say it's pretty much like any other studio I have been to. If you don't like the rigidness of bikram, then it's probably not for you. I personally like the discipline. read more

Not the prettiest yoga studio in the world, but Bikram Yoga Capital Hill gets it down. It's bare and minimal, nothing complicated about this place. Show up, bring your mat, and enjoy the "torture chamber." It's one long room, and I always managed to find a spot by just showing up. I don't know how long that will last for, but I do appreciate that they have both 6pm and 8pm classes. And have later 2pm and 5pm classes on the weekends too for those days I just can't wake up! The teachers are fine, no adjustments here. Once you know your 26 poses, you are good to go on your own. I wish the room was a hotter sometimes so I feel like I'm getting more from my work-out. It's a bit distracting sometimes when the air rushes through the ceiling pipe tunnel, but what can you do. There are no funny smells here, thank goodness. And the floor are made of material that is easy to clean. I always managed to get a shower fairly quickly in one of their two showers. There are those free high-tech lockers you can put your own combination in--just ask someone how to use one in case you don't know. Overall, good vibes from this place for a no-frills dependable bikram yoga class. read more

I went to this studio for the past year. The teachers are truly excellent, particularly Omar, LaShone, and Pierre. Wow. Over the year, I saw a huge decline in the overall hygiene of the place. There are puddles of water everywhere before class even begins, and you can't tell if it's sweat or these gross humidifiers they haphazardly placed on the floor. I stopped going despite my yearly unlimited still having another month because it just got too unsanitary for me to return. read more

After my friend dragged me to Hot Yoga in Tyson's Corner, VA, I have been hooked on hot yoga ever since. This studio is three blocks from my house and I am glad that I checked this place out. After reading some of the the previous reviews, it is clear that for many of the reviewers, this was there first experience with hot yoga, which probably affects their true review about the studio (because they are focusing on their dislike for hot yoga or how difficult it is). That being said, this is a great workout and I have noticed changes in my body after practicing for a month. Plus in the winter I can see this being nice. That being said, this studio is small, and this should be expected for most places you visit on H Street. A lot of the buildings on H street are row house-like. It is expected you come early (maybe 15- 20 mins) because it is a first come first served studio. The women's changing room is small and to get there you have to walk up a small, thin stair case. There are some benches and cubbies for your belongings and small lockers to lock up valuables. There are also two showers. The problem is that there are many more woman in the classes than men so the changing room is usually crowded. if you expect to take a shower after class (usually people do) you might have to wait. But I have noticed that many people leave right after class. The studio is a long room with mirrors on one side which makes it easy for people to see themselves during class. It smells hurrendous but that is expected and once people go to other studios they will realize all hot yoga studios smell bad (what do you expect of a room @ 104 degrees used by sweating people?). The instructors are great and the classes are the same no matter what instructor is there. So after a while you easily get into a grove. MY ADVICE IS TO GRAB A SPOT NEAR THE DOOR so when the instructor opens the door you get a cool breeze which will help to motivate you during your workout. 6pm is a popular time so expect a full class and people practically sitting on top of you. This studio has a neighborhood feel just like everything else on H street and that is probably an accurate view of the clientele. The schedule of classes is the same everyday and weekend so you don't have to memorize a complicated schedule. Compared to Hot Yoga in Tyson's, this place is smaller and looks more dated, but you are getting the same thing. If you are going to bikram yoga for a big space and atmosphere and not to sweat your butt off, do something else. Hot yoga is not about that. read more

Avoid! I've had some very negative experiences here ... like an instructor taking a phone call during class and another instructor hitting on me. The floors are not cleaned between classes - and they really should be considering the amount of sweat that sits on them. The mats are not thoroughly cleaned, either. The studio is costly and the amenities just aren't up there enough to make it work it. Try another studio where you'll have a 100% positive experience. read more

Totally surprised that there would be any negative reviews at all! I bought a year-long membership at a charity event auction sight-unseen. (The charity event had an open bar--you know you've made far worse drunken decisions.) As an extremely active young person living in Cap Hill I was fairly confident I'd put the membership to good use no matter what the studio/instructor were like. (I train/coach other people as well.) Have I done Bikram before? Yep. In the last three years? Nope. More than a dozen times in my life? Nope. Turns out I totally love this place and all the instructors I've encountered--like, all 4 of them. Not everyone who comes here is super fit--and frankly that's a beautiful thing. It's a perfect studio for a beginner to be nurtured and to feel welcomed/comfortable--yet you'll get just as great a workout if you're already incredibly fit or yoga-advanced. Now that I've been going regularly for 6 months, I've been in classes where I'm probably one of the better yogis--and the instructor will still push me to do more. Typically there are at least a few really accomplished students who you can sneak peeks at and be motivated by. Lots of times one of the other instructors is participating in the class--which is awesome to see. I think my general fitness and even peace of mind has been strengthened by Bikram. The instructors greet me and others by name--people, this is WAY harder than you think. The facilities are fine, efficient and clean. It's not super-fancy, but it's in a prime location so I can't imagine how much more they'd have to charge if they wanted to go super-fancy. Either way, this doesn't directly affect the quality of your "practice" (yogi-speak for "workout") so who cares. Elizabeth and her trainers have created an environment that is distinctly motivating, uplifting, and community-centered. I love supporting that! read more
