3.5 stars. I did two week unlimited and took about 18 classes. I liked most of the instructors, and for the most part vibes were friendly if not polite. Main issue is cleanliness. The studio needs a deep clean (or two) as the baseboards are filthy in the studio and in the two weeks I was there the floors continued to be dirty and only "cleaned" by a very brief mopping inbetween classes. I've been to many studios, but the lack of removing the massive trails of sweat in between classes was not exactly hygienic. The bathroom as others have said also had pools of bodily fluids and hair. I understand it's a messy practice but employing someone whose role is to clean vs manage front desk and teach is paramount. Whatever they're doing now is not enough. This place needs an overhaul in the cleanliness department. I also didn't love that there was no gentle reminders for people who strayed off course for 26 & 2, going late during balancing postures, grunting, and ignoring the rule to breathe through your nose. A few bad apples ruined the bunch for me most classes. One in particular would *always* start his pose 30 seconds after she'd cued it. In my opinion that's something the instructor should've called out, especially when we were balancing. Overall I'll be looking elsewhere for a heated studio but hope this place finds its footing. Teachers and atmosphere of this place are great but I can't get over how dirty the bathrooms are. It constantly smells musty and there is black dirt and mineral built up between the grout of the tiles. I'm fairly certain a cleaning service even once a week would avoid this so I am a bit confused. Ventilation from the bathrooms could also be an issue. Anyway, like I said, come for the classes but by all means WEAR SHOES and shower at home after. read more

Teachers are excellent, and good at providing modifications for injuries. The one thing that keeps it from being five stars is that the facility isn't super-nice. The actual studio where the class happens is nice, and they disinfect the floor between each class, but the showers/bathroom are pretty bare bones. I still go every week though. read more

I LOVE the instructors and the classes, BUT this place has a major cleanliness issue as it is filthy! There are ants that come out around the side of the baseboard of the studio classroom by the front & side mirrors and it is distracting as the ants crawl onto my mat/towels. The hallway + bathroom floors are usually wet and dirty with hairballs on the floor, and it makes me uncomfortable to walk around barefoot since I read from another review that a visitor got athlete's foot. The owner or studio team needs to do a better job about cleanliness and sanitation here. Their current cleaning isn't done well. read more

I got a month unlimited voucher from Groupon. I just wanted to give it a try. The result is that I fell in love with this place. I have taken four classes with three different instructors. They are all very friendly and helpful. They emphasize a sense of community and push us to go further. The place is not big, but they have showers, closets, a water fountain, and some resting benches. The room is not too big, and sometimes it will get crowded over the weekends, but people here are friendly and willing to move around for you. I am committed to doing it. Let's go. read more

Well, I "thought" I was in decent shape until my 1st session of Bikram. I didn't know what to expect, although I knew I was flexible as a flag pole, so it would be challenging. Add in the heat (105 degrees) and duration (90 mins) and the level of difficulty spikes significantly! The instructor said "you'll feel great and energized afterwards". Huh? No way! But she was absolutely correct. I was proud that I finished (albeit with several breaks in between), and felt invigorated. So much so, I went everyday for a week+. It's still every bit challenging since the 1st class. But I feel great. Lost weight almost immediately and my skin is glowing (read the heat oxygenates the skin). Smooth as a baby's bottom! The instructors are wonderful! A special shout-out to Akiko (teaches Inferno Pilates) for pushing her students, incorporating new exercises, being understanding and patient of beginners. My core and butt haven't been this sore in a really long time...like ever. It's a great way to start the day! And the room is very clean, showers available, and secure of your belongings. Hot Yoga is not for everyone, it's not even for me in the long run. But when I need to get back to my featherweight fighting body, it's the quickest way. However , this studio is a graceful version of Bikrams somewhat bossy legacy . I've been in studios that were hellish in their efforts to CONTROL you. The teachers are wonderful, the room is large and clean. The bathroom/changing room is the right size . It has been a fun run here . We'll see how long I can last. My favorite yoga studio of all time is in Santa Barbara, the unparalleled Yoga Soup , run by a Jewish man from New York , who is devout about the ideas connected to Yoga, not just the exercise. Nice instructor, however it was a very full class and they squished us in like sardines. Doesn't seem to be very covid safe. There were over 30 bodies in the room and I was less than a foot away from someone to my right, left, front and back. It was challenging to do poses without accidentally touching someone next to you. I joined Hot Yoga Seacliff in January of this year. The instructors at this location are incredible people and have amazing energy with students. Each instructor has their own strengths while teaching, so I love how they rotate teachers schedules throughout the week in order for you to get a new instructor each time. Now I'd like to "shout out" to a few of my favs, which by the way, does not mean I don't adore other instructors! It may mean that I have not had the chance to take their class (yet). Now Alyssa has a fun and upbeat energy that that is contagious and makes you super happy you came to class that day. She teachers the Pilates classes, like inferno and classic! She is a rockstar and will certainly whip you into shape while making class fun! Marlene teaches Hot 26&2. Now I must admit, I HATED her class at first, but it was because she is SUCH a great instructor that pushes you to greatness! I absolutely love her class now and I have to say- she is my fav of all time! The Jennifer's are amazing! Jennifer K is so caring and will go the extra mile to talk to you after class and give you advice on how to go further with your poses, while Jennifer D will push your body to the max and make you want to come back for more! Estephan has a great sense of humor but doesn't let you get away with breaking the rules. He will be sure to make you laugh while calling you out to do the poses correctly and keep you on course. He truly is a master yogi and creates a wonderful balance in the room. He's one of my second favorite instructors. And last but not least, if you want some crazy good cardio, you must check out Nestors inferno Pilates class. He has great energy and will make you work the entire 90 minute class! read more

Went for an Inferno Pilates class. Facility itself is in fair condition. It just didn't feel as clean as it should be considering that COVID is still a thing. The room where the class took place felt grimy. Class itself was kind of strange, but I can see how some people would be into it. Very disappointed with this yoga studio. I just returned from this Yoga studio. I was hoping to inquire about the starting hot yoga classes with this Groupon. As this was my 1st time there, I wore a mask & brought my vaccination card. There was no one at the front desk so I planned to wait a bit. The 430PM class was visible from the lobby so I was watching. Apparently, the instructor was incredibly disturbed by my presence and came out to tell me that I 'have to leave'. I explained to her that I was inquiring about classes, and she repeated very rudely that I 'have to leave now.' I asked the lady who was in the lobby if it was illegal for me to be there, since she spoke to me like I was about to commit a crime. This lady, who was a customer, apologized for what had happened. I will assume that being in San Francisco, her disgusting behavior toward me was not because I'm Asian American, though, I really can 't see any reason for it. read more

This review is for the yin restorative sunday night class. It's not yin or restorative. It is hell. The only pose you hold is pigeon and it's maybe for a minute and a half. I went for 3 classes... the first one had commercials, second class we were prepared for the non-yin class and it was okay, the third class was hella difficult. I feel like maybe you shouldn't hit your exercise goal in a yin restorative class lol. I do recommend the class if you are highly experienced and wanting a work out. If you want yin, don't go. Also you can easily hurt yourself here so be careful in this class. 10/10 if you want to be surprised in a bad but maybe good way. read more

It was my first time doing any sort of hot yoga! And this was a cool experience.. I will say I was a little concerned about the safety Covid-wise since the instructor didn't ask for proof of vaccination (which I feel should be required for a place where we're in a hot enclosed space for an hour). The class itself was nice and challenging - but it was a full class! I forgot my own mat, so they give you one for free (with the walk-in pass), but i don't think that mat was cleaned before lol. read more

Took my first class there this week, first thing Monday! It was intense I'll say that, not for the faint of heart- literally speaking. You will sweat!! The instructor was a temporary fill in and she was great, really motivated the class and made sure everyone had correct form. The studio is clean, with a beautiful women's locker room/restroom area. Three full showers, lotions and soaps, feminine hygiene products, and mat cleaning sprays. There are cubbies for your stuff, and locked ones if you prefer. Overall, great experience and I will definitely come back. read more

I've always wanted to be able to do a full split. It's just such an epic pose. I even considered joining my college Cheerleading team - in hopes that I could master the elusive split (and score a sweet outfit in the process). But it just never happened. I gave up. Until Bikram yoga came into my life, and resurrected the absurd notion - that perhaps with years of sweaty well calculated movements in a roomful of silent, spandex clad others, I may yes - have some slight chance of conquering the split. Thanks to the lovely Princess Buttercup for introducing me to this place, and briefing me on all of the things I should do beforehand (not eat, drink water, bring a towel etc) I managed to stay the whole duration of class here this past weekend - without having to leave or double over with heat exhaustion. The instructor was patient and took her time in explaining the poses and it was nice to know that I could go at my own pace, and not feel insecure for being unable to do half the moves. Not only was my experience with a class here smooth, but I was impressed to discover that the changing rooms were clean and well stocked with lotion and anything else you might need following a class. If you are contemplating exploring Bikram Yoha -and are a novice like me, I highly recommend you checking out a space like Yoga Seacliff to help you ease into a regular Bikram routine. While it's not the cheapest of studios, and it can be out of the way for many - I personally couldn't have asked for a better re-introduction to the world of Bikram. Trust. read more

I'm one of those weird people who LOVE LOVE LOVE the heat. So I was feeling very excited(albeit a bit overconfident) that I can hang with the 105 degree heat from this studio. Boy, I walked out of that first class with my tail in between my legs and I would've hung my head low in shame, but I was ready to pass out right after I got out of class so I kept my head upright. I've only gone 3x to Bikram Seacliff and all I can say is the instructors here are BADASS. There is no leniency on opening the door to let some cool air in or taking water breaks other than the only ONE that is allowed. Teachers are also very experienced and will call you out on your pose (Steve is THE best!) and correct you multiple times until you get it right. Lock your knee. Lock your knee. Lock your knee. Since a lot of the yelpers also mention the carpet issue (which I believe one of the owners already addressed) it is kinda gross when you do the triangle pose and I have to step barefoot on the carpet. Shudder. I like that they have a shower stall here, well, ONE shower stall. But the problem with that is, you get at least 3 people waiting to take a shower. Also, I can't help but constantly bump into others in the tight changing room. "Oh, excuse me, I need to wash my hands" or "sorry, I need to get to my stuff". There are complimentary toiletries (mouthwash, lotion, shampoo, etc) in case you forget to bring yours which is a huge plus since you don't see that often in other yoga studios in the city. This is a very intensely heated studio and if you're a beginner, you should definitely come well hydrated, even if you think you drank enough water, keep drinking before class starts. Also, pick a spot closer to the door so you're not in direct contact with the heaters. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would happily return to Bikram Seacliff and continue practicing. My sister and I bought a Groupon deal for this place a few weeks ago just to give bikram yoga a try. I was actually a little nervous the first day we decided to attend a class. I have never done yoga before. I had no experience whatsoever with yoga so the idea of attending an intense bikram yoga class where the temperature was over 100 degrees for 90 minutes was intimidating. However, that was not the case. The instructors here are very patient. When you first walk in, they make you sign your name on a sheet. That's how they keep track of attendance. I think someone inputs your name in the computer later. If it's your first time, they'll make sure to note that and give you extra attention during class. There are different instructors teaching at various times over the week. You can find the class schedule on the website. Each instructor teaches their class a little differently. It's the same set of poses, but instructors might explain a pose a certain way or spend a little more time on one pose than another. It varies. I really recommend trying different instructors to see who fits you best. Sometimes the way someone explains something just clicks with me. All of the instructors that I have had so far are great. If you're a newcomer to bikram yoga, I recommend making sure that you're hydrated. Drink a lot of water before you go in because that room gets really hot and the workout is intense. Bring a bottle of iced water with you. It goes a long way. Plus extra towels to place on the yoga mat to prevent slipping and to dry yourself. The place itself is pretty clean. It has an odd smell, but it's not too overwhelming. The yoga room is not too large, but it fits a couple dozen students. Go to the class early so you can save yourself a spot. You don't have to make an appointment to attend class. It's all drop ins so it's better to get there early to find a spot for yourself. They have cubbies lining the walls in the hallway so that you can store your things. I was a little worried about the safety of my things, but if there's no one at the front desk, they lock the front door. There's only one class at a time so if you're not in class, you shouldn't be wandering around the establishment. The instructors were very helpful especially when there were students who were overwhelmed by the intensity of bikram yoga. I've seen some students who overworked themselves and became dizzy. The instructors know how to deal with those situations so you're in good hands. I had no exposure to any type of yoga prior to taking classes here so my first class was overwhelming and intense. But you do your best and that's really all that's expected of you. You want to push yourself as far as you can without injuring yourself. I just finished my 7th class here and I really enjoy it. If you're not sure if this is your thing, you can do what my sister and I did and find deals. It's really worth it to give bikram yoga a try, especially at Bikram Yoga Seacliff. read more

I've been looking for a new studio since the one I've been going to just closed. It's actually hard to find something that's sanitarily cleaned and has showers. I arrived 30min early at 525am. I was greeted by the instructor. She was patient, professional, and prompt. Everything goes well here. The space make sense, how and where things are. The room is perfectly heated. You can tell the instructor came in at least an hour to get the place set up. She made the experience worthy. Def getting the monthly pass. read more

Yikes. I normally don't write long yelp reviews but I think a solid clarification of my rating is necessary. Groupon led me to this location and the decent yelp reviews tricked me. I've gone to only one other studio for bikram so that's about all I have to compare this specific location and experience to..but with that said...this location was utterly disgusting. First and foremost, I thought the worker/trainer that welcomed me was pretty rude. She doesn't seem to enjoy her job very much (I believe her name was Ann) and she could/should adopt a better attitude for new customers as well as participants during class. She just seemed a bit tired/bored of her job and wanted to get thru the session asap. Second there were no lockers and only one toilet that smelled like BO and dirty scalp. I was cautious with where I allowed my bare feet to step which is never a good thing. Thirdly, I thought the studio room had poorly circulated heat. It felt like a heater was blasting at me but not in the uncomfortable way that bikram is known for...more like gusts of hot air in my face as the rest of my body was feeling the other temperatures in my room. There was also a noisy and buzzing light that was quite annoying throughout the entire session. Lastly...and probably the worst part was the last half of this experience where we carried out the floor exercises. I could smell sweat in the carpet. Even through my yoga mat and towel, I could smell the presence of other peoples bodily fluids around me. Yack* I refused to touch any part of the floor with my body though somehow managed to find someones long hair nestled in my own sweat on my arm. It was pretty d### disgusting. With that all said... this studio is in dire need of some cleaning and maintenance. I cannot believe their rate is $160 a month. I paid $20 for a weeks trial period and even that is stretching it. Perhaps after some rewiring, upgraded ventilation, toilet cleaning, locker placing and some reevaluation of the staff...perhaps then the monthly rate may seem more fair. Till then... one star. Sorry =/ UPDATE: Since my second visit I decided to upgrade my star rating to 2. The broken buzzing light was repaired and even though I attempted to attend my second session with a different instructor, the same one was there again and she was much more accommodating and friendly. I go to this loc once in a while and add in hot yoga when I can and use it as a supplement to my workouts. Despite all of the reviews on how terrible the room smells I never tried to think too much into that aspect bec YES. It is hot yoga. People are suppose to sweat and smell it's inevitable so I found it pointless to complain about it. However today was the first time I experienced such TERRIBLE customer service. Just terrible class experience as well. I went to the 12 PM class Ivo was instructing and he is by far the worst instructor in this studio. First I went in 20 min early and he was sitting on the sofa enjoying his lunch after I was clearly walking around, trying to find a staff at that studio. I had to ask Ivo if he worked here in order to get his attention. Such terrible service. If it wasn't for the after feel good feeling of hot yoga I would most likely never go back. But I'll make sure to avoid his class at all cost. It is normal to be suffering from the heat and we are strongly urged and told to not leave the class for many reasons- distracting other students being one. I have taken many classes at this studio and never did I witness so many people just dying from the heat. Around 5 people left the class and I was on the verge of leaving too but instead pushed until the very last min. When he noticed too many people leaving, he pointed out that "the reason why so many people are dying is because noon is the worst time to practice hot yoga." Excuse me? Sorry not everyone has the luxury of practicing hot yoga in the "early morning" or "evening" like he mentioned. Extremely offended for many reasons. I couldn't do 2/3 of the class because I was feeling so light headed and sick from the heat and FAST PACED postures. I have never experienced such fast breathing warm up exercises during my time here and it really threw me off for the whole 90 min. I was always slower than his pace (this was never a problem w other instructors) making me feel like the whole time I had to catch up to him. I DID NOT ENJOY a single minute of this class. He was extremely rude to me after and during class- emphasizing the fact that if I just laid down and didn't do anything it wouldn't do much for my body. This is MY body not his. I do what works for me at MY pace. No instuctor at a yoga studio has the right to tell me what is right and wrong. Will not return unless an instructor like Darla is teaching the class. read more

What was I thinking coming here? Right now even my sweat is still sweating! Barring the fact that it's been ages since I've done yoga, this class kicked ass AND kicked my soul. It has a nice, big lobby with yoga supplies, drinks, and snacks for sale. The noob check-in process was easy. I opted for the $20 week rate even though I was only up for the weekend but it would be save me money to take a Saturday & Sunday class if I did the drop-in which was $18. They provided water, a towel, and a mat for $5 extra which was fine. Brazilian Carolina taught the class and she was very very good. I'd never take a Bikram class, only core and not-as-hot Ashtanga classes. I was thinking, if we do any flow in here, I am going to die. The heat was almost unbearable, but with the constant focus on my breathing and my inner mantra "you're living, you're living", I made it through. The class wasn't crazy crowded so there was room to move comfortably. The only thing I did not dig was the carpet. I think there is multiple mention of that here in previous reviews. I don't know if I was just delirious with heat, but it didn't wreak as much as it could have. I'll be back tomorrow for more physical & spiritual punishment. Namaste read more

I'm a bit torn writing this review. On one hand, all the instructors and employees I've ever interacted with have always been super friendly and nice. On the other, whenever I went to this studio, it was always super crowded to the point where I'd continually have to adjust myself to make sure I don't get whacked in the face or I don't whack someone else in the face. That's my main complaint, really. Class sizes really should be limited. Also, they've recently (or are about to) open a second location in Daly City, five minutes away from where I live. Because driving through 19th Avenue is a pain in the behind, I had inquired in person as to whether I could transfer my membership to the new location and was told to email that inquiry and someone would respond. No one ever responded. So a middling overall review--nice people when speaking to them in person, lack of response over email, and classes are overcrowded, though the workout itself is good. read more

After one year of practicing I was involved in a car accident. And I thought I couldn't return to the class. 3 years went by . And I'm so happy to be able to begin again . I've always been a fan of Bikram Yoga. They currently have a deal - if you check in, it's $35/month and the usual price is about $130-150 depends on what you want to go with. Make sure you are on time or you will not be able to join the class. Even if its one minute late. I would recommend coming here 10 mins early before the class so you have time and not having to rush. My initial experience with Bikram Yoga Seacliff was great! The male instructor that enrolled me and taught my first class was exceptional. I enjoyed it so much that I was willing to travel to the outer richmond for yoga alone and bought 10 class/$50. I did not attend another class for over a month maybe even two. When I did return for class I was informed at check-in that my 10-class pass had expired. I let the woman know I was not informed my package had an expiration date. I was not given anything in writing and the advertised package that was currently posted made no mention of an expiration date and was the EXACT SAME 10 FOR $50 OFFER. The woman insisted that they always tell everyone about the expiration and if I wanted to attend that class I needed to pay $20. I asked for a manager and was told I had to email them. She again prompted me to pay or leave. I paid and took the class. THE GOOD: Studio is decent size 1 exceptional instructor Groupon packaged classes THE BAD: Studio is dirty Only one shower and one toilet (separate male/female) No lockers Rude staff Arrive 10 min. I started coming here this past summer because my boyfriend bought us a groupon for 10 classes. All bikram studios do the same 26 poses (usually 2x) within a session, in a room that can be heated up to 105 degrees. The staff is super nice here and they are all very knowledgable; i've never had a bad experience with any instructor. My favorite instructors though, would have to be Jay and Keon. I got the best energies from them because they seemed so positive and willing to help everyone without being condescending. As I was progressing through my 10 classes, I learned to ALWAYS hydrate the night prior and also the morning/afternoon before I went!!! I can't stress this enough, because it definitely affects your energy and ability to do some of the poses. I once came after a night of drinking (my body was super dehydrated), and getting through the 90 minutes was super difficult for me. But thankfully I finally learned to hydrate enough before classes! Definitely try to bring fill your water bottle(s) with ice because your regular water bottle will heat up during class and drinking hot water is definitely not the bizzzz when you're trying to cool down. The studio here is okay, the other studio I went to had wood floors that didn't smell, so I definitely wasn't used to the carpet stench they have here. It seems as if everyone is sweaty and dripping onto the carpet.... Blech. I know they probably clean it but gahdamn it still smells! Guess they can't help it though if they really are cleaning it. The smell didn't bother me too much, but I know for some people it does. Overall an a-okay yoga studio. The groupon is a great deal so maybe i'll find myself here again. I am a Personal Trainer, who has taken yoga classes before, took Bikram when this place was on 25th and California. I had two bad experiences with this place and it is sad to say this, but I agree with some of poor reviews written here. 1)my first yoga class was on a Sunday 9am or 9:30am, I forgot. The instructor was a Slender, with a British accent, rude from the get go. I ask a few questions about checking in and she snapped at me, practically ignoring my questions. I also forgot my towel and and she told me that I needed to pay $2 for one. I commented that when i signed up, they didn't mention about bringing a towel; I thought they offer them at the site. She also ignore me. Her energy for negative for a yoga instructor. 2)when i signed up I bought $99 a moth deal unlimited classes; but I failed to check the schedule, which interfere with my work schedule. I paid the first and last month on the day I signed up and I was excited to start doing hot yoga again. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my monthly renewal and accept that the hours weren't for me, so I went to the place 2.5 weeks in advance before my first renewal to cancel. The place was always closed the 3 times I went; so I went online and tried to cancel, but I was unsuccessful. I called at least 5 times and left messages about the issue, but no call backs, except one call from a woman Cat, almost two weeks after my initial attempts . My wife called too and they returned one of her calls, but when she try to call back; she will get the answering machine. I even send a text with the promised on their site that someone will addressed my questions/concerns within 24 or 48 hours; I am still waiting for their reply. This week; they charged to my account $99.00 8/25/2019. I was pissed, for I did everything possible to avoid this situation, but the lack of professionalism from this place made it impossible. I am disappointed at the way they treat their patrons. As a business owner and professional; I give my patrons the highest level of priority and respect when they contact me or have an inquiry or questions regarding anything. I even left a message for who I think is the owner, Christian; to address my concerns. I begged him to call me, but he never did. I have nothing else to say, I rather waste my last month that I prepaid than return to a place where I was treated with indifference and disrespect from my initial class. So Its 2018 and I've been reading the old reviews in 2016 that the studio would be changing to hardwood. The studio is definitely still all carpet. I'm actually a FAN of the stinky carpet. Bikram Yoga is a style of very sweaty yoga. If you have hardwood the sweat will pool on the floor and you will slip! The smell is from the people, everyone is sweaty even if the carpet is steam cleaned every night there's still going to be a smell. Pros: -Location is local so if you are around the area definitely try it -Decent sized studio -Instructors are hit or miss as long as you know the style you will be fine -Groupons are available =) Cons: -Hard to find parking -Only one bathroom stall & one shower per sex -No lockers, you can rent a key from the front desk but I'd rather just bring my own lock and have lockers? -No water fountain -Classes 20 dollars a class read more

Absolutely ridiculous.... I came in here super pumped but wasn't allowed to come inside the place because I was "late" and class started not sure if I was racial profiled but felt like I was.. I knocked on the door at 8:25 p.m. The lady who opened the door was completely rude. She opened the door and automatically said "what" and then said class already started and closed and locked the door... awful experience. read more

I drank the kool-aid too! Or in my case the Tropical Punch Cytomax. I really wish that I had jumped on the $20 groupon. Instead I lagged because I'm lame and didn't know what Bikram Yoga was all about. A few months ago, when I was funemployed, I started exercising at my complex's fitness center. There was this gal that came in and she would run on the treadmill for about 40 minutes then start doing yoga. I was truly amazed at how bendy she was. I thought for sure she was some Chinese acrobat or something. It was a little distracting... Eli P Tical wasn't too happy about that. My friend Berna got all up in this yoga business a while ago. First Pose: (toeasana to mouthasana pose) Now, shift all your weight to your left leg. Grab your right foot and carefully wrap your leg around your head. Now, stick your toe in your mouth and breathe. Hold the pose. Inhale and lift your heart to the ceiling and exhale. 30 more seconds... In all seriousness, Bikram Yoga is an excellent practice. I have been out of practice since 2001. I am very thankful that the instructor allowed me to do the 10 day pass for $10. I first discovered Bikram Yoga in 2001. I shattered my kneecap and severed my patella tendons when a reckless snowboarder crashed into me on the slopes of North Star. My doctor told me that I would recover, but said it would be impossible to run again and I should give up snowboarding. My stubborn mind refused to give up either one. I was determined to find a way. After 6 months of continuous therapy, I was able to walk and cycle. However, my knee still didn't have the full flexibility it needed to be safe for running without further injury. My physical therapist told me about Bikram Yoga. I tried Bikram Yoga. In less than 10 classes, I gained the flexibility back in my knee. I was on my way to a complete recovery. I was able to run again and have completed 7 marathons and a number of races since that injury. Well, guess what? Now, I'm out of practice, out of shape, and back at Bikram for the first time in years at the Sea Cliff Studio. The Sea Cliff studio is spacious, clean, and HOT. I just finished my 4th class and I am already craving to master the poses and heat. I am by no way near good with the poses, but my effort and participation makes for an excellent workout. I'm hooked again. Last Pose: Bend over and place both hands on the floor with prayer hands. Slowly ease your legs above your head while keeping your hands in prayer form. Only the tips of your fingers should be touching your mat. Now, breathe. Overall: The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable, the studio is clean and spacious, and classes are not crowded because they offer classes every 2 hours. Yay! These 26 asanas or poses are guaranteed to help you improve all your daily functions-- yes I do mean ALL- wink wink... There are no rules, just try the best you can and have fun doing it. I love the heat so if you're not into sweating it out--prolly not the best place for meditating (although I save that for the end). Namaste! 1- Pranayama Deep breathing--removing all that stale air deep within those alveolar sacs! 2- Half Moon pose with hands to feet pose-- feels like sunflower bending side to side following the sun. stretching to the max! 3- Awkward pose- its a balancing act of sitting with no chair and doing it again on your toes! 4-Eagle Pose- Hmmm I imagine an eagle soaring out in the air- but try crouching crossed legged as well as the arms and sitting with all limbs aligned...I want to see an eagle do that! 5-Standing head to knee pose--Tricky tricky tricky- great spine stretch and hamstrings. 6-Standing bow pose-- my favorite asana- regal, proud like an arabesque penche' 7-Balancing stick pose-- Letter "T" standing on one leg at a time. 8- Standing separate leg stretching pose--fun like you're going for a dive! 9- Triangle pose- Geometry in motion using ALL your muscles...phew 10-Standing separate leg to knee pose- reminds me of Basho's poem the crane and the willow tree looking at each other's world- who's upside down? 11-Tree pose- Calming, serene and still... 12-Toe stand pose- can we do a tree pose instead again? tough!!! 13-Dead body pose--REST in Peace :-) 14-Wind removing wind pose-- and massaging the innards. 15-Sit up-- you do a couple more between each following pose. 16-Cobra pose--it's like doing a push up but not using your arms so much.. 17-Locust pose-- leg raise with arms tucked to the floor. working against gravity. 18-Full locust pose-- flying airplanes 19-Bow pose- should be called tear shaped pose 20-Fixed firm pose-- stretching the front side 21-Half Tortoise pose-- equivalent of an 8 hours sleep???hmmm 22-Camel pose-- heart stretch with a dizzy spell. 23-Rabbit pose-- err, i don't look cute doing this 24-Head to knee pose with stretching pose--its all down hill from here- last final stretch 25-Spine twisiting pose- great for hang overs flush those kidneys... 26-Blowing in firm--just to make sure you're refreshed. Why do I torture myself 2-3 times a week (okay maybe 1-2x). It's not like Bikram gets you in shape and gives you this unforgiving body with pecs & abs (does it?). I do it because it's HAWT. I'd never experienced anything like Bikram. I'm not a yogi.... or athletic but I do love the way Bikram makes me feel. I go into a class, lay there on my mat and for a few moments I can relax everything, I can get away from my every day hustle - I'm a hustler baby, I just want you to know- for a good 90 minutes. In that hour and a half I feel like someone whose able to center and control (not to mention conjure) my body, my heart rate and my mind. What I can't control however; which surprised me and exhilarated me at the same time; is how the sweats just roll off my rolls. Yes, I said rolls. Those many layers of hills and lumps that shows up whenever you move around. I can taste those salty lil suckers as it trickle down my face, I can feel it sliding down the hollow between my breasts, I can hear it dripping and splattering down on the mat and see it exuding off my flesh as it gather nicely in the crescent of my belly button. Oh how I love not being able to control the flow of perspiration. I hate the antagonizing 90 minutes but when it's over... I can't wait until I can do it all over again. read more

Bought a coupon from Townhog months back. $40 for two months of unlimited classes. I was very skeptical at first, I've never been a yoga girl but was always a fan of pilates, it took weeks of preparation til I actually grew enough balls to try it out. I did a lot of research and read through a lot of reviews for tips. I kept myself hydrated and went without any expectations. 90 minutes in a 105 degree room was ALMOST unbearably hot!! As advised, I wore as little as possible, brought an iced water bottle with me, a large towel to lay over my mat and a face towel for the sweat on my face. I really enjoyed my first experience. There weren't much that I had to get used to besides the "one water break". As for the stretches and the poses, the instructors are very kind and understanding if you can't do certain poses. Yes, there are moments where you will feel like fainting. Just sit down, lay down and relax. Oh and breathe. They're big on that. "remember to breathe" Lucky for me, the studio is only two blocks away from my house so I don't have to worry about finding parking or giving myself the excuse "It's too far, I'll just go tomorrow" My two months ended and I bought myself 3 months of membership. LOVE it! Sometimes I dread the feeling of the burning sensation I get from certain poses but I always feel like it was worth it after the class ends. They say you receive the most benefit if you go at least 3 times a week. TRUE. I did notice a slimmer face, leaner arms and a tighter tummy. Bikram Yoga Seacliff responds with a one sentence reply that my language is "offensive" and that i should continue yoga to help with my stress. well - leaving aside the issue of my stress (who among us can cast the first stone?) i invite anyone to read my review and decide whether it is "offensive"... i stand by my comments, it is a flagrant and obvious commercial tactic to not have a water fountain. again - this may seem petty but believe me if i had paid their prices for water i would've spent an extra $4 - that adds up. and *they know it*. don't prented you don't guys - i find that "offensive". read more

It's hot... I can't see without my glasses, but I had to take them off because they would have just slid off my face onto the floor into the puddle of my own sweat that is forming on the towel on top of my yoga mat. Yes. I have soaked a large bath towel and the class just began. How gross am I? I see myself in the mirror. At least I think that's me: A blur of pale, chubby, sun-deprived city person; terribly out of shape even though I try to get to the gym at least twice a week... who am I fooling... a month. I'm surrounded by all these toned, fit people who must just live in the studio or something... What is this? I begin to black out... um... but I drank at least 2 liters of water today? Okay, just lay down on the mat... The instructor checks on me. I tell her I'm fine... I lied. I can't do this for 90 minutes... we're only on the 4th pose and I'm already feeling like I made the wrong choice. Stupid LivingSocial and your glorious deals. Offering me something I can't pass up, but now I'm about to pass out! ... but I keep going once the standing poses are over. Nice of them to get those out of the way. This isn't so bad. I'm encouraged by the instructor and the fact that we're getting to the last of the poses and I haven't thrown up even though I feel like I could. Breathe... take a sip of water... DOUBLE EXHALE! That feels amazing! I will make it through this and I will come back, but I will drink more water next time and eat less bacon. read more
