We stayed at Altis Grand Hotel during our trip to Lisbon, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our stay. What stood out immediately is how genuinely child-friendly the hotel is. Traveling with kids can be hit or miss, but they really go out of their way here. They welcomed our children with snacks in the room, which was a thoughtful touch, and during Easter week they had a dedicated kids' zone with arts and crafts and a ball pit--our kids absolutely loved it. It made a big difference to have a space where they could play and just be kids. The breakfast buffet was fantastic--great variety, high quality, and a perfect way to start the day. We also ate at the ground floor restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. It wasn't just convenient--it was genuinely enjoyable. What really made the experience, though, was the staff. From the doormen to the front desk, everyone was warm, welcoming, and helpful. A special mention to the assistant manager, who went above and beyond--he remembered our names and made sure we were taken care of throughout our stay. Overall, this hotel strikes a great balance between comfort, service, and family-friendly amenities. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon, especially families. read more

After 24 hours of traveling, we arrived at the hotel at 6 am. We already knew check in was not until 2pm, however the staff made no attempt to accommodate for an earlier check in. We walked around the city until 10 to kill time and came back to check in on any progress without luck. My husband and I settled in the lobby to rest. I took my shoes off and layed down...within a few mins, the manager approached us to tell us we had to put our shoes on and had to remain seated if we wanted to remain in the lobby. Realizing most higher end restaurants in Lisbon are closed on Christmas, we were delighted to find Rossio, on the 7th floor welcoming use for dinner that night. Exquisite service, beautiful view and amazingly well prepared and presented food. We shared a few small plates including gyoza and a spinach salad and of course, some fine wines. The most impressive thing of all, was the service. The gentlemen who waited on us were there to make us welcome and comfortable. I mentioned to the waiter that I was grateful he was there on Christmas and he said, "we are glad to be here for you" and " I have a wonderful job". So many places would want to turn the table but they had an entirely different approach. For that I am very grateful. I'm so sorry I didn't note his name in the review. Next time we stay in Lisbon, we will stay at this wonderful example of a hotel and most certainly dine here again. I loved the location, close to famous Avenida da Liberdade and many Lisbon sights. The standard room was large and comfortable, no complaints here. The beds and linens were very comfy. The cleaning ladies missed to clean our room once (was the late breakfast due change of winter/summer time or our visit of spa reason to skip the routine?). The breakfast buffet is quite varied and rich. The coffee waiters occasionally pour is not tasty, the one from the machine is much better. Also, three out of four days we had to stand in a long line to enter the breakfast room. I know, the hotel was full, but hey, they claim to be a 5 star and all the waiting was caused by the chaotic and poor organization. They should learn the efficiency from the seafood restaurant which we found round the corner. The bar on the top floor is a bit overpriced which you could probably tolerate at luxury hotel but what is harder to get used to is tired and uninviting design, seating and lighting. Spa is cozy and not crowded and WIFI worked seamlessly. I still recommend the hotel if you get a good deal. read more

A beautiful small hotel right at the boundary of the centre and a fashionable quarter. Very rich and varied breakfasts - their lichee compote, melons, but also cheeses and field mushrooms are simply delicious. But anything else is a little overpriced ... The little pool can´t be used for swimming, but when the rain beats against the roof, it's really pleasant to spend a morning in their Spa :) I strongly recommend to stop there on your way to Lisbon :) Nádherný hotýlek přesně na rozhraní centra a módní čtvrti. Altis Grand Hotel = pleasant! After 2 nights at Hotel de Estrela (5 yelpy stars!) it was a bit of a letdown to drop into the Altis Grand Hotel for our last evening in Lisbon. However the price was right (about 140 euro for a double room) and the service was great, so our stay was totally pleasant, just not "amazing" or really "5-stars!" Altis Grand Hotel is a big convention/tour bus type of hotel. With 300 rooms, it serves this demographic very well and has some amenities that make it attractive to them. For instance, when we checked out Sunday morning there were not 1, not 2, but 3 HUGE coach buses with older guests departing for a day of sightseeing. That is about 300 people right there! Obviously this clientele is very well behaved and quiet so I am not complaining at all, just trying to paint a picture. Every staff member was absolutely lovely. The doormen, the reception staff, housekeeping, everyone. All extremely sweet, helpful and accommodating. Fitting of a 5-star hotel type service. One small complaint - we showed up to check-in at noon (had to leave our previous hotel) and were told check in was at 2pm. We were there with a baby, in the pouring rain and I have to think there was at least a room available. I think they are pretty strict with their policies though, so just an FYI to travelers. No early check-in. The room -- really nice. They've obviously been updated with fresh surfaces/carpet. The bed comfortable and crisply clean. Our room was nicely outfitted with a double bed, large flat-screen TV, bathroom with tub and shower (plus separate bidet/toilet room), chair, desk, etc. All very comfortable for our 1 night stay. The view was nothing to rave about but we won't hold that against them. I'm sure in the front of the hotel it is a nice view! They brought a very nice cot for the baby -- a full size/standard cot (not a travel cot) also with very fresh linens. Much appreciated! As mentioned, the hotel is very quiet (nice!) so we tried to convince the baby that this was in order. For the most part, he complied! So in short, if you are an explorer type and just need a place to take a shower and rest your head whilst going out and about in Lisbon, this hotel will serve you perfectly. If you are looking for "boutique" or "unique" experience this might not be it, but the price is right and it's very clean and updated so it'll do just fine! Service makes it sparkle. Of note: *taxis were always available right outside hotel. *doormen delivered our bags directly to our room after check-in. *bar/cafe in lobby serves light bites/coffee. Altis is a nice hotel, I think it would be a really good 4 stars, but unfortunately it doesn't live up to its 5th star. The building looks a bit dated, but the interiors, particularly the rooms, are very modern and comfortable. Large mirrors everywhere, slippers and nice toiletries, an entertainment system and big fluffy pillows on the bed, are some of the things you can expect. The staff is pleasant enough, especially the barmen and the reception clerks, but I found some of the waiters to be very clumsy and almost rude. During breakfast service, for instance, the inexperience of some of the staff would show through and you'd also see them bumping into tables/chairs without even acknowledging it. The breakfast buffet is also a bit disappointing, plenty of choice, but everything's very basic. Again, it wasn't what would expect for a hotel in this range - other similar hotels in the area are much better, so Altis doesn't compare well. We had one event with catering at the hotel and that was also not up to scratch, I couldn't believe how disorganized the service was, the food served was not very tasty or well prepared and we had a disproportionate amount of desserts versus mains/starters. So I wouldn't recommend their catering, even though the venue - the D. Fernando Grill on the 12th floor - was very accommodating for a that big number of people - there's also a covered balcony that runs around this floor, great for al fresco socializing. There are a lot of smoking areas indoors but they're not overly intrusive - I sat on the lobby bar working for a while and only felt a very faint smell of tobacco. However, if large numbers of people gather in one of the bars smoking, it may become discomfortable. Wi-fi is free, but the list of freebies ends there. We were supposed to get a complimentary bottle of water every day in our room, but that never arrived - for what it's worth, we complained on check-out and they apologized profusely. Still felt very stingy on their part, they were charging a whopping 4€ for mere bottled water inside the room. There was also a Nespresso machine and coffee capsules, but each of them would cost 2€. I understand things are more expensive at hotels, but this just felt excessive. In summary, Altis certainly has the infrastructure of a very good hotel, but it needs to rethink the way it treats their paying customers, how it trains the staff and definitely what kind of food standard they're aiming for. As saving grace, they seem to be geared towards a business audience and they have good facilities such as the business center that you can use for free even for printing some documents. read more

This is not a five star hotel. At best, 3. I am very confused on how they got their rating and what other guests frame of reference has been. The service staff are lovely, and very kind and have been trained well. However, the building they inhabit, and the suites (I stayed on the "renovated" floor) had old carpets, stained and clearly used furniture, uncomfortable beds, and inedible room service. I have stayed at five star hotels (Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, or the Four Seasons) which are valid in their ratings but this simply isn't. Keep expectations in the lower star category and its a perfectly fine experience. read more

Don't be fooled, this is far from a 5* hotel like they would have you believe. First all, they allow smoking in the lobby bar at the hotel so you are greeted with wafts of second hand smoke as soon as you walk in. Next, you will wait approximately 20 minutes for check-in and then they will assign you a small room the size of a closet. The next day they upgrade you to a suite which is large but still very dark, dated and sofa looks like it has been there a while. Even the hallways are dark and on motion sensor lights. You may be walking in near complete darkness for a few seconds before the lights come on ... kind of creepy. I was at the hotel for a conference and we kept hearing construction noises during our conference sessions. Also, while the wifi is free, it kept dropping and was very unreliable. Then on checkout day I once again had to stand in line with second hand smoke for someone to print out my final bill. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Overall a nice experience. Check-in and check-out are quick and simple - like that they give the option to pay in US dollars. The hotel is a 5-minute cab ride or 15 minute walk from the tourism centers. Coffee and espresso are always available at the lobby bar. Drinks (at the lobby bar and on the 12th floor) are a bit pricey. Breakfast is great but don't go right at 7 or you will get caught up in the zombie feeding frenzy. The coffee at the breakfast buffet is outstanding -- super strong, as I like it. I look forward to staying here again. read more

The Altis Grand Hotel deems itself as a 5-star hotel, but don't be fooled. This is not the Ritz or Four Seasons. When you first walk in, the lobby is very nice and attractive (it seems that having any type lobby in an European hotel allows it to get an extra star. lol). But if you look closely, the furniture is tired and worn, and the reception staff isn't exactly friendly. The check-in/check out staff is definitely need more training in the hospitality department. Speaking of staff, the girl in the gym/spa is the worst hospitality employee I have ever met. My friend went down to swim, but when she went to take a shower afterwards she realized that there was a problem with the hot water. So, my friend went to the attendant to perhaps get help with getting the hot water switched on or something like that, but no such luck. My friend basically got a blank stare and the attitude that basically said, "Deal with it." And that wasn't even the bad part! My friend then figured that she would just come back up to the room to shower. But the final insult was when the insolent attendant just shrugged and said, "I need the towel back." Crazy. My friend had to brave the trip back upstairs sopping wet! Not the type of service you'd expect from a supposed 5-star establishment. The rooms are ok. They're pretty spacious by European standards, with lots of mirrored surfaces throughout the entire room. They have a Nespresso machine, but they charge 1 or 2 Euros per capsule. The location of the hotel is very convenient. It's just off of Avenida da Liberdade and an easy walk to many places. read more
