The current "customer service" of companies these days can be deplorable and my recent stay at Santa Maria Inn ("Historic" or not) sadly proved the lack of service or even trying . In fact, Customer Service was what was missing. For a special trip to see a family member, I drove my elderly mom up from Los Angeles for a one night visit to Santa Maria and chose The Historic Santa Maria Inn in order to keep the money going to a local family business and not a corporation (Hilton, Wyndham etc). My whole family had stayed at this hotel about two decades ago and it was fine. So I booked for a Saturday night (a month or so ago). I requested an ADA room since my 97 yr old Mom would be in a wheelchair. When we arrived, there was a short line and there was only one person working the front desk. Very long wait time to check in. They said they were sold out and we were not getting an ADA room. (My Mom's wheelchair couldn't fit through the little doorway to the bathroom.) And the room was COLD. We couldn't find the remote for the air/heat on the wall and the thermostat was locked. We called for a manager. No manager in house. We asked for maintenance to unlock the thermostat. They left for the night as well. A sold out weekend and anyone who could do anything EFFECTIVE was no where to be found! Needless to say that the night with my Mom was scary and very uncomfortable. No heat or any way to warm the room besides opening our door and dropping our luggage to hold it open. They brought blankets. That is all we were offered during our stay. On Sunday morning I told my Mom that there was no way we were going to have breakfast there (as I had promised her) and as i was carrying all of our luggage, accessories and pushing my Mom's wheelchair to the elevator, a young worker offered to help. He pushed my Mom and got us into the elevator and down to the lobby. He was kind and helpful, something we had not experienced during the night we arrived. His name was, no surprise when I asked him,"Christian." I said he was aptly named and thanked him for the only hospitality that we experienced during our stay, unfortunately we were headed out the door. I don't understand how any management can think they are serving their customers like this. Surely, they can provide assistance, management on sold out weekends and offer air conditioners and heaters that work. Sadly, that was my last stay at this hotel. I had a truly horrible experience. I only gave the highlights.

Radisson Hotel Santa Maria - There was a hole in the ceiling dirt around it. You could tell there was obviously a leak in that area.

My When I initially booked this hotel reservation, the…read moreproperty appeared very different online than it did in person. online it showed a completely redone lobby and hotel accommodations with no documentation of the Hotel being under construction. Upon arrival, I discovered that the entire exterior and interior of the hotel was under incomplete construction, which was never properly disclosed. The lobby, dining area, and hallways were dusty, and construction noise began every morning at 7:00 AM. Once I got to my room, I quickly realized the air conditioning was not working. I called the front desk requesting that someone come up to address the issue. Shortly afterward, there was a knock at the door, and a small fan had simply been left on the floor outside my room. There was no explanation and no apology from the staff. When I attempted to address the issue further, I was met with arguments and excuses from management instead of customer service and professionalism. I specifically booked an ADA-accessible room because I am in a wheelchair. However, upon entering the room, I discovered that it did not have a walk-in shower. This was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. Due to the situation, I had to spend the final two days in a standard room, and because of my spinal cord injury, I was unable to take a shower during that time. To make matters worse, all of the handicap parking spaces were completely blocked by construction bins and materials, creating additional accessibility issues throughout the stay. This hotel should not be operating under these conditions during major construction, especially while failing to properly accommodate guests with disabilities. The level of customer service from hotel management was unacceptable. At no point did I receive a sincere apology for the issues I experienced. Instead of putting the customer first, management chose to argue and justify the situation. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and absolutely not worth the amount of money that my mother, brother, and I spent on our separate reservations during the two days we stayed there. I have never experienced customer service like this at any hotel before

In…read morethe description on the website there is no where that it says that they are under construction. Walls are thin, can hear everything. We called the front desk and they lied and said they are having electrical issues and can only give free breakfast. I should have read the reviews before on here. They are renovating and no where on the site is said this. When we checked in, we were given a room where the appliances didn't work. We call the front desk and she said she couldn't give a discount because we booked on the Hotel App. But for the inconvenience she would give us free complimentary breakfast. After going back in forth I asked for another room. In the morning during check out I told the older lady that was at the front desk that the girl last night said she would give us complimentary breakfast for the inconvenience last night and the older lady working said she didn't leave any notes or told her that we were to have free breakfast. Also the Wifi doesn't work. Again, So very unprofessional here. I highly recommend you don't stay here. Also the older lady had the audacity to say "Have a nice day"

There were also cupboards that were empty. I'm pretty sure that's where the dishes would be if they did have any. They were in the middle of renovating the hotel so there was a pair of ear plugs on my night stand compliments of the hotel. I don't believe they replaced my towels and weirdly, I came back one night and noticed everything was left in its place except for the towel for the floor. For some reason they folded it up and placed it on the sink? As for safety, I felt pretty safe here at night. I came back at 9:30 pm one night and didn't notice any weird activity in the parking lot and I needed my hotel key to get in the side door. Other people that were staying here the same time as I was were also here for work (there were numerous work trucks in the parking lot from the same company, not mine). Would I stay here again? Probably not until the renovations are done. Other hotels usually offer a free continental breakfast and that would've been nice to have here. Hopefully once the renovations are done they may have one (I heard there's a restaurant here). Overall, I slept great, felt safe and it's conveniently located by everything you would need, but I'd like for breakfast to be included and also a little nicer furniture (the mirror in my bathroom had carvings in it).

The beds are comfortable and they offer a hot breakfast in the morning with a make your own waffle bar, breads and toasters, two hot entrées, cereal with milk and a coffee/tea station. We were unfortunate enough to arrive at the breakfast area at 10 AM on a Saturday to find that breakfast was over and it was a race between us of the staff to fill our plates as they were taking everything away. They begrudgingly gave us bread and butter and a few other items but make sure you fet there on time. We hadn't been able to call down to the lobby to confirm the breakfast times because the phone in our room was just a prop with no cord and no connection. we tried calling the front desk, but there was no answer. That being said, the rest of the staff were very friendly. I would be grumpy if someone came to eat while I was trying to clean up, too. From the moment my wife, kids, and I got there, they made us feel welcomed and comfortable. The staff was genuinely kind and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. They even gave us a complimentary upgrade so we could have more space for the family, which meant a lot and made the stay way more comfortable. What really stood out to me was how attentive they were. My kids can't sleep without a fan, and when I mentioned it, they didn't hesitate to help and found one for us. That level of care and willingness to help is rare these days. We originally booked for just two days, but the hospitality was so good we ended up staying an extra night just because of how well they treated us. That says everything right there. Highly recommend staying here if you want great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and people who really care about their guests.

We booked Candlewood Suites for one main reason -- location -- and it ended up being one of the…read moreeasiest, most comfortable stays we've had in a while. It's about a 20-minute drive to Pismo Beach, and being right off the freeway made getting there ridiculously simple. No confusing turns, no long detours -- just hop on and go. That alone made a huge difference for us since we were going back and forth during the trip. We booked a suite using points (Monday-Wednesday), and the layout worked really well for a family setup. There's a separate bedroom and a living room with a pull-out couch. First night, we gave the kids the couch -- then quickly realized we stay up later than they do, so we flipped it. Kids got the bedroom, and we took the living room. Real talk: the pull-out couch is great for kids... not so much for adults. The mattress is thin, and you can feel every little dip and bar underneath. It's doable, just not what I'd call restful if you're a full-grown adult. For kids though? Totally fine. Now, where this place really stands out is the service. Edson at the front desk was genuinely helpful -- not just polite, but actually useful. Gave solid food recommendations that we ended up trying (and appreciating), and made himself available if we needed anything else. That kind of staff presence makes a difference. Example: our kids can't sleep without a fan. It's a whole thing. We mentioned it, and they were able to provide a small desk fan -- you just sign it out and return it when you leave. Simple, but thoughtful. That level of accommodation isn't something every hotel bothers with. The room itself: * Clean * Spacious * Comfortable overall * Well-maintained No weird smells, no "hotel grime," no second-guessing surfaces -- which, let's be honest, matters. We liked it enough that we extended our stay an extra day and paid out of pocket instead of using points. That says a lot. We're IHG Rewards Diamond Elite members, so we stay within the brand often -- and this one held up. Bonus detail: there are multiple hotel options right in the same area (including a nearby Marriott), all within a small radius, and it's still only about a 7-minute walk to Boomers if you're planning activities. Overall, this stay checked every box: Convenience, comfort, cleanliness, and staff that actually helps. Only minor note -- if you're planning for adults to use the pull-out couch long-term, just be prepared for it to be more "functional" than comfortable. Other than that? Solid stay, smooth experience, and definitely somewhere we'd book again.
