Recently had to travel to Santa Barbara to hold a photo session and since this was located almost in Santa Barbara, decided to stay here for a night before continuing to SB. I've never been to Vandenberg AFB before but I do know it's located in the boonies far far faaar away from anything. I was lost in a small city and asked at a gas station where the base was... go down the road and turn right.... following the signs. Well, they didn't say the signs continue for about 30-45miles and over 30mins!!! Just as you are thinking "you're lost", you finally come to the end of the road and after a traffic light stop, you're at the front gate. To check in at the lodge, you need to go to billeting which is clear across the base also, past the static rocket display. That found, I checked in - counter clerks not really friendly, not even a smile at all. The building we were put in was back out and had a very ample parking lot BUT in a complex of two buildings, the two were not marked with bldg numbers.... quite confusing at almost midnight and little light. Luckily I keep a keychain light handy and they helped a lot! As in many base lodging and gateway inns, this used to be a barracks with a shared bathroom between two barracks rooms. Now it is a single unit with two separate doors, the sleeping area on the left, then walk thru the bathroom with shower (no tub) and into the other room, now used as a living room with television and table. Neatoooooo As usual with these base lodging, it was very reasonably priced and included coffee-maker, iron and ironing board, big frig with microwave, flat screen television, big soft fluffy towels, soap and shampoo, big roomy closets (one in each room), and a big comfy bed to sleep in! Guessing it gets HoT in summer (no ceiling fan) there was a big floor fan in the closet. I wanted to stay and check out the base facilities and had to leave quick to get to Sta Barbara for the scheduled photo session and the base being so far from everything, I decided to leave quickly and early to get there in time, being over an hour and a half away. I would stay again under a less hectic and rushed schedule. The double room was a pleasant surprise and very nice. Need to show credit card and military ID upon checkin. I called and checking out wasn't required in person, telling me to leave the card keys on the table and just lock the door behind me. Free laundry washer & dryer in a common area near the entrance doors. Though the parking area was huge, even at such a check-in hour the lot was packed! What I really liked were the old-style faucets in the shower and sink. No forced full-force water, but old-style so you can actually control the amount of water pressure. ;^) Did I say how far from any and everythang this base is located???? it's faaaar from everything!!!!

For the price, space and all the necessities, this inn has everything you could have asked for. This is perfect for a family. We stayed on a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom kitchen plus L shape countertop with a living room and another dining lounge. Rooms are seperared from each other. There's also laundry room and kitchen has all the pots and tableware needed. It's really exceeded our expectation.

The living room from the door. The kennel was provided. There is a TV around the corner by the chair with leaves design.

This is the second time we have stayed in TLF (temporary lodging facility) and we know to ask specifically for TLF otherwise you get put in the big building. Its a little more but most definitely worth it. Its a pet friendly street full of mini houses. The house unit we stayed at has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a laundry area, a kitchen with dishes and appliances, a living room and large pet crate with food and water dishes for your companion. You will need to bring the shot records when you check in for your pets! The unit has pretty decent wifi. The backyard is a small patio that is fenced in for privacy and has a picnic table and small charcoal grill. The TLFs are toward the back of the base but you can't beat the price nor the peace and quiet. I have gotten to stay in billeting at Keesler AFB, Goodfellow AFB, Dyess AFB and Peterson AFB and this one is definitely the nicest so far.

Local wines for sale at the front desk.

I have got to say this is one of the best military lodging facilities I have ever stayed in. For the price - you get a mini suite - enormous bathroom, and a bit of a living room and a bedroom with overhead ceiling fans, new TV and a DVD (may have been blu-ray?) player and a mini fridge. Very quiet single level units that were very pleasant for us to spend a night! The check in area even has some local wines for purchase!

The woman at the front desk was very helpful and friendly, and everyone in the restaurant was also friendly. They accommodated my request for a particular room type even though I made a last minute reservation. The property is older and you can tell, and my room was a little dark, but it was comfortable and had a full size refrigerator, microwave and a La Z Boy chair. I honestly can't remember another hotel having one, and it was really nice to put my feet up after arriving. Parking was also convenient and close to the room. I enjoyed the complimentary happy hour drinks and ordered the fish and chips for about $17. They were tasty and cooked to order, although the fish seemed like a frozen, pre breaded product. The portion was small, with two pieces of fish, but the coleslaw was fresh and tasty. Considering the price and the two free drinks, I thought it was a good value. The bartender was very friendly. The breakfast was disappointing. The scrambled eggs were oily and the sausage was the mass produced type I don't care for. The sourdough toast was fine. I was glad breakfast was included because I would have sent it back if I had paid for it. The bistro coffee wasn't very good either, but the Keurig at the front desk was a better option. Overall, I had a quiet night and would stay here again. The property is older, but the friendly staff, convenient parking, room amenities and complimentary happy hour make it a good value.

I paid the $56 early check in and when I walked into my suite and opened the toilet I was surprised to see pee and toilet paper. Disgusting. Whatever I flushed it and cleaned the toilet with my handy Clorox wipes. Unpacked, went downstairs told the front girl what happened to me and she did attempt to write down what I said but instantly picked up the phone and asked me a few questions as she was on the phone. This threw me off because I wasn't sure if she was randomly pretending to pickup the phone or was answering a call and not saying anything but mouthing stuff to me. The phone never rang, unless she saw a massive light underneath hidden where no one can see except for her and thought the call was more important than my issue. Went back to my room and noticed two more things that I was not happy about. The shower water was not working properly and the ac does not shutoff. Breakfast food was just ok. The lady making the omelettes forgot our orders. The complimentary drinks / snacks (cubed cheddar cheese, crackers, stale carrots, broccoli were ok. I loved how the bigger rooms/suites were in a separate building. I loved how conveniently assigned our room was to the doors/elevator. I know hotels tend to place families near them. The elevator was slow, but our halls were quiet. I felt like we were the only ones staying in our building and maybe we were. lol The breakfast room wasn't too far a walk, as it was in the same building near the pool. You need a key to get in there which I liked! Sometimes you don't want random people eating for free you know. Breakfast was a fully breakfast, and the lady kept everything clean and coming out. However, she was slow to refill and the eggs and bacon were a little oddly cooked. Like some of the thinnest bacon I've ever seen and the eggs were kind of rubbery. I did like the blueberry waffle mix though. And the fountain drinks were nasty! Checkin was smooth and the older black lady who helped us is super helpful and nice! They had the lobby festively decorated too for the holidays! Price was great for the sized room we have. Had a kitchenette, two bedrooms with tvs, two full baths, and another tv couch space next to the kitchenette. Rooms were decently cleaned, but the carpet was old and sunken in. Next to the dmv which I found odd, but wasn't too far from solvang which was the only reason we were in town!

It's late Saturday night and there is a rodeo/fair in Paso Robles and some other events in the area. No available hotel rooms anywhere and too late to book online. I called around and finally someone at a local hotel in Solvang said the whole immediate area was all sold out and suggested White Oaks Hotel in "the outskirts of Lompoc" (as if Lompoc itself wasn't already the middle of nowhere). I gave Yelp a quick look and there was no reviews. Then a check on tripadvisor showed a wide range of reviews from scary to pretty good. Since it was either that or drive 5 more hours home, we gave it a shot. The woman who answered the phone at White Oaks was very nice and said they had a couple rooms left, even one with two Queens, which is what we were hoping for. The room was a little more than I wanted to pay, but at this point I didn't care. I reserved the room with my credit card and we made the drive over to Lompoc, arriving just before 11:30pm. Already expecting the worst, we pulled in and the circa 1970s lobby was deserted. Once again the woman behind the counter was very nice and got everything worked out as fast as she could with the phone ringing off the hook (apparently we weren't the only ones desperate for a room). We made our way around the side of the building to our room and as it turns out it wasn't too bad. It was pretty quiet both outside the hotel and inside. The room was dated and a bit worn, but very clean. The beds were comfy and the sheets were nice and soft. The towels were also soft and everything smelled fresh. There was all the usual things you'd expect in the room and then some including fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, fan and safe. The wifi was fast and free. Their "breakfast" was a bit a bit of a stretch even for continental, so plan on eating elsewhere. It's not the hilton, but it's safe, clean and beats sleeping in the car. If I ever end up in Lompoc again and the price was right, I'd stay here again. Solid 3 1/2 stars. Thanks for saving the day (err.. night) White Oaks!

Unfortunately, the condition of the room was far from what I expected. To start with the positives, both the evening and morning front desk associates were friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. However, that was where the good experience ended. The room itself was in very poor condition. The lampshades were visibly dirty, and one even appeared to have what looked like a speck of blood on it. There was a thick layer of dust--about an inch--on the back side of the TV, which made it clear that the room hadn't been properly cleaned in quite some time. One of the "clean" towels had visible skid marks on it, which was honestly shocking and unacceptable. It didn't stop there--there was mold above the door and also on the bathroom wall. Then, upon checking out in the morning, I noticed a tissue hanging from the ceiling in the shower. That was the final straw. I did inform the front desk associate when I checked out, but I'm still stunned at the overall state of the room. This goes beyond a simple oversight--it reflects a serious lack of upkeep and attention to cleanliness. I hope Red Roof Inn takes a closer look at this location and invests in the maintenance and sanitation it clearly needs. Guests should not have to question basic cleanliness when staying at a hotel.

It was so uncomfortable. I couldn't feel like I could change and go take a shower because I was afraid this fool was gonna come in again and knock on the door so the third time I showed him my bank statement with the withdrawal from red roof in showing that I paid and they are finally satisfied with that. Well I wasn't satisfied it was the noisiest grossest room I've ever stayed in and they had no hot water. She also told me that if she had checked me in that night, she would've kicked me out because I use Priceline and they don't like Priceline because they have to wait a couple days to get paid. They only want to use their website and then I guess she doesn't understand how it works because then she told me to make sure I left a good review on yelp and Priceline well guess what Bindy here's my middle finger to you with your review.. make sure you remember when you're staying here and beautiful town of Lompoc California that is in the central it the armpit of California and this hotel red roof Inn on 246 leaves nothing else imagination the Customer Service and the bedbugs not to mention the clientele that come here if you can imagine it's walks of life i'm the only thing that was actually kind of told you about boxer if you happen to run into maybe you can score this or that or he can unplug your toilet. He told me 4 o'clock in the doesn't I said hey man, that's good to know on that note what a wonderful way to start off summer solstice. Make sure if you wanna have a happy fun time stay here too..

Then after I got home from my trip, I realized I was double charged. I called the hotel and the gentleman I spoke to said it should be resolved, which I trusted. Fast forward to today, I have family staying at this hotel, so I drove up to visit them. I decided to check my bank statement and sure enough, the double charge is still on my bank statement. Cindy, the receptionist at the front, who was the same one who assisted me in April, was incredibly rude and again, acted bothered when I asked if she could help me look into this. I began to try to explain the situation to her and instantly she said "I can't do refunds," and then told me to write down my name, phone number, and email, because her manager was the only one who could help me. When I asked her when I should expect to hear back, she was very snarky with her response, stating she didn't know her managers schedule. On top of that, she roomed one of my family members in a dirty room, and they had to come to the front desk to ask to be put in a clean room... Working in hospitality, I'm sure has its challenges, but her consistent attitude toward people and her inability to efficiently manage rooming guests in clean rooms, which should be the absolute bare minimum expectation, should really be addressed. Hopeful that the manager will resolve their error in double charging me in April and address the staffs behavior to improve future guest experiences.
