On base military lodging that's more than adequate especially when you consider the cost against hotels off base (Lompoc most likely). The rooms are basic but have everything you need. The beds are comfortable and everything is clean. As a lot of places are doing these days, they don't come in to clean and make the room everyday. It's like after 3 days. If you need towels, etc daily, just ask. The area is nice and quiet to enhance a good night's sleep. read more

Very disappointing that the last three times I have attempted to make reservations, in the last year, there is not availability for retired personnel. When asked why only personnel on orders are being accommodated, "no leisure" booking allowed. Such a shame, as this is a base, I once called home, and now no longer feel welcomed. Why is that? The Air Force Inn at Vandenberg SFB is clean, and the bed was comfortable during my stay. The major downside to the place was that the rooms didn't have A/C, but I opened the window and let the breeze in. Other than that, I thought the room met my needs during my TDY, and I wouldn't mind staying again if I had to. read more

I call this base the Air Force Resort. Not only is the customer service amazing here... the rooms are clean and well put together. Remember... your on a military base you wouldn't expect something this time. Or would you? I mean it is the Air Force lol. Upon checking in I was greeted and asked if I need help finding anything etc The lobby has a seating area with TV and is very clean. They also have free coffee and small little snacks. Upon entering the room the first thing i noticed was it was very clean. Fresh sheets like it should be with no odd odors. The floor was vacuumed and the bathroom was great. Even the windows were cleaned. You know the part between the screen? usually that's overlooked at many places. Not here! they're on top of it. Would I recommend staying here? definitely. If you've got to stay at VAFB and don't want to stay in Lompac you can't go wrong with the Air Force Inns here. read more

We stayed on a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom kitchen plus L shape countertop with a living room and another dining lounge. Rooms are seperared from each other. Recently had to travel to Santa Barbara to hold a photo session and since this was located almost in Santa Barbara, decided to stay here for a night before continuing to SB. I've never been to Vandenberg AFB before but I do know it's located in the boonies far far faaar away from anything. I was lost in a small city and asked at a gas station where the base was... go down the road and turn right.... following the signs. Well, they didn't say the signs continue for about 30-45miles and over 30mins!!! Just as you are thinking "you're lost", you finally come to the end of the road and after a traffic light stop, you're at the front gate. To check in at the lodge, you need to go to billeting which is clear across the base also, past the static rocket display. That found, I checked in - counter clerks not really friendly, not even a smile at all. The building we were put in was back out and had a very ample parking lot BUT in a complex of two buildings, the two were not marked with bldg numbers.... quite confusing at almost midnight and little light. Luckily I keep a keychain light handy and they helped a lot! As in many base lodging and gateway inns, this used to be a barracks with a shared bathroom between two barracks rooms. Now it is a single unit with two separate doors, the sleeping area on the left, then walk thru the bathroom with shower (no tub) and into the other room, now used as a living room with television and table. Neatoooooo As usual with these base lodging, it was very reasonably priced and included coffee-maker, iron and ironing board, big frig with microwave, flat screen television, big soft fluffy towels, soap and shampoo, big roomy closets (one in each room), and a big comfy bed to sleep in! Guessing it gets HoT in summer (no ceiling fan) there was a big floor fan in the closet. I wanted to stay and check out the base facilities and had to leave quick to get to Sta Barbara for the scheduled photo session and the base being so far from everything, I decided to leave quickly and early to get there in time, being over an hour and a half away. I would stay again under a less hectic and rushed schedule. The double room was a pleasant surprise and very nice. Need to show credit card and military ID upon checkin. I called and checking out wasn't required in person, telling me to leave the card keys on the table and just lock the door behind me. Free laundry washer & dryer in a common area near the entrance doors. Though the parking area was huge, even at such a check-in hour the lot was packed! What I really liked were the old-style faucets in the shower and sink. No forced full-force water, but old-style so you can actually control the amount of water pressure. ;^) Did I say how far from any and everythang this base is located???? it's faaaar from everything!!!! read more

The beds here are nice, but the setup of the rooms are weird. The rooms I'm thinking used to be used as barracks, so they used to be smaller (with shared bathrooms between two people). The knocked down the wall that separates the two rooms and the setup is mirror images of each other. However, there's a bed on one side of the room.. and on the other they turned it into a living room. There are two sinks, and two entrances to the bathroom. The showers are tiny. The beds here are nice, and the sheets are great except for the dust cover.. those were hard and uncomfortable to lay on. Also, we couldn't figure out how to work the air conditioning system in the room so it was always on. This made the air dry. Great place to stay for cheap though! read more

This is the second time we have stayed in TLF (temporary lodging facility) and we know to ask specifically for TLF otherwise you get put in the big building. Its a little more but most definitely worth it. Its a pet friendly street full of mini houses. The house unit we stayed at has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a laundry area, a kitchen with dishes and appliances, a living room and large pet crate with food and water dishes for your companion. You will need to bring the shot records when you check in for your pets! The unit has pretty decent wifi. The backyard is a small patio that is fenced in for privacy and has a picnic table and small charcoal grill. The TLFs are toward the back of the base but you can't beat the price nor the peace and quiet. I have gotten to stay in billeting at Keesler AFB, Goodfellow AFB, Dyess AFB and Peterson AFB and this one is definitely the nicest so far. read more

I have got to say this is one of the best military lodging facilities I have ever stayed in. For the price - you get a mini suite - enormous bathroom, and a bit of a living room and a bedroom with overhead ceiling fans, new TV and a DVD (may have been blu-ray?) player and a mini fridge. My husband and I had to stay here after PCSing here while we waited for housing (which wasn't long at all) and it was one of the best experiences. Everyone was so nice and friendly, they had washers and dryers at no-cost (which is a blessing while moving), and the rooms made you feel a little more at home. We stayed at the Air Force Inns for 2 nights on a road trip to Pismo Beach. We figure it's fairly close to Pismo so why not, it's cheap. I mean you get what you pay for. You can tell the room was old with the 80s style ceiling fan & the big bulky TV. We didn't stay in our hotel often so it didn't bother us. For $39/night, can't really complain. The water was hot and plentiful (I hate to shower after my husband to find out there is no more hot water 5 minutes into it) If you're willing to drive at least 30 mins from base to find something go for it; if not, you're better off getting a room somewhere in the city. read more

I stayed in the Enlisted Quarters, which look like mid-century bungalows converted into clusters of rooms. The rooms have a small refrigerator, about twice the size of most mini fridges. There is a desk, free wi-fi and free access to a washer and dryer set. There's a W/D set for every four rooms. All the furniture in my room had been updated and I felt it was a bargain at $44/night. I would definitely stay here again and I would be recommend it to friends. read more

We stayed at the pet TLF for about 3 weeks. Awesome setup! It was spacious and very accommodating. The maids were very friendly and thorough. Big things that were great were the en-suite HE washer/dryer, en-suite large kennel, well equipped kitchen, large bedrooms, outstanding play gym outside, free wifi, and patio grill. I suggest that you make your reservations here at least 2-3 months ahead of time. Otherwise, you will likely have kennel your pet due to non availability of the pet TLF. They don't have many units. Ultimately, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we highly recommend the pet TLFs! read more

This is one of the best hotel / lodge I have ever been to. The rooms are huge, you get a queen size bed, enough room next to the bed that you could call it a living room and a decently big bathroom. The TV's have HDMI, which was surprising and also had a DVD player attached. The WIFI is amazingly fast, for free WIFI, depending on the time and how much traffic there is on it I clocked it at about 20 Mbps Down and 15 Mbps UP. All in all this place is amazing for the price. If you are planning on staying here remember to book in advance, I had a situation where my stay got extended last minute due to business and they ran out of room and so they had to move me to some place in Lompoc. Really liked this place. We spent 2 nights here. Got to see a little coyote out on the open field from our room (it had glass sliding doors), then saw a bobcat by the road, wagging its tail! It was so adorable! I felt like I went on a mini safari. Our assigned room was secluded. Our room was spacious and I loved that parking was right next to our room. The room was clean as usual for mili lodging. I would consider going back here, specially if you're looking for some R & R in a serene place. I worked on Vandenberg for several years, and stayed in base lodging when first arriving on base and when leaving base for another job assignment. The other reviewer was correct by saying Vandenberg is in a relatively remote location. But it's in a beautiful part of the state that is still relatively undeveloped and peaceful. It's a great area to go wine tasting, camping, or explore Pacific Ocean coastline free from golf courses and McMansions. It's definitely not 5 star lodging, but you can't get a nicer room for $39 per night in off base lodging in the neighboring communities of Santa Maria, Lompoc, or Santa Barbara. read more

Having lived in the area for quite sometime we decided to come back for a visit and stay at the Vandenberg Lodge. It exceeded our expectations. Carol at the front desk had the most wonderful personality and beautiful smile. Our room was more than we could imagine. Never have I seen such a place so clean and we have Rita, the housekeeper to thank for that. The furniture was very comfortable as well as the bed. The fiber optic cable for Internet is absolutely incredible. Certainly had me spoiled. Everything in an instant. Never have I seen a hotel, motel or inn have a "Room Maintenance" form for you to complete if you find a problem with the room that requires the attention of the Maintenance or Housekeeping Department. Now that is true customer service and tells you they care about their patrons. If you have the opportunity to stay at the Lodge don't hesitate to do so. You will not be sorry. Some say it is in a remote area, however, the scenery is beautiful and well worth the drive. There are some very good restaurants as well (explore the internet)and very close to the wine trail in Santa Ynez. read more

We have stayed here once before and are back after several years and it is still one of the nicer military lodging facilities. The price is reasonable and the room is very comfortable. The check-in was quick and very courteous. Be advised, the base is located in the boondocks. There is not much going on after 6PM so you need to find someplace early. Good place to relax. read more
