Beautiful building, pool and hot tubs

We absolutely love Kon Tiki Inn! We stayed here years ago and had an amazing experience, we knew we wanted to return--not only to reminisce but also to celebrate our anniversary. Kontiki is truly the most fun and unique hotel we know of in Pismo Beach. The atmosphere, the consistency, and the attention to cleanliness and detail make every stay wonderful. A huge thank you to the staff for keeping this place so well-maintained and welcoming year after year. We can't wait to come back!

This is our second stay and we love it here. The view from our room is exceptional and our rooms were sparkling clean. On this trip, we booked a handicapped accessible room for my 87 year old mom and we had neighboring rooms on the first floor with chaise lounges on the lawn outside our door . Service is always friendly - from the calls we placed to make reservations to check-in and support throughout our stay. Complimentary breakfast options are very basic but we are so happy here that we really don't care - there are lots of great breakfast and coffee options in Pismo. We are already looking forward to our next visit. There are newer and pricier lodging options available but we found the Kon Tiki Inn to be the perfect place for our family.

I have passed by this spot many times on the street side and it didn't look like anything special. Then a few years back, I saw it from the beach side and thought it looked wonderful. Every room is an ocean view, the rooms are quiet and roomy, although on the older side as the screen door was not very smooth and the water pressure is a bit weak. The small inconveniences were worth it for the price you pay for this location. The pool and one of the two hot tubs overlook the beach providing a relaxing stay. Breakfast is simple and is on the other side of the parking lot. No big deal as you can ask for a tray and bring it back to your oceanview room to enjoy. I would definitely stay here again, although you would want to book early as most of the time they are fully booked on the weekends.

Always wanted to stay at Kon Tiki after so many years at seacrest. Loved the property! Got bottom floor room near the office. Loved being able to just walk out the sliding glass door onto the grass and hot tub/pool. Rooms were not luxurious, and in fact quite basic, but clean comfortable and in working order. While we got a regular drip coffee machine, which we kept, we could have asked for a keurig. A very pleasant stay and we will return.

We had the best stay at this hotel, the room is simple, nothing fancy but the view is everything and price is great! Clean room and comfortable beds, can't beat that.

Amazing !!!! Amazing views the amenities are wonderful. The staff is great Wonderful Customer service. This Inn took care of us completely.

    The sunsets are just beautiful.

We had this hotel recommended to us and boy are we happy with the friend who told us about it. The Kon Tiki Inn is a gem. It is a well cared for hotel, clean with the most friendly, helpful staff and best of all every room has a fantastic view! They offer a free breakfast with hard boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, oats, sweet rolls, fresh fruit, juice, milk and coffee. You also have free use of the athletic club which has a nice big gym, lap pool, free classes and pickle ball courts. The hotel itself has a really nice pool with two hot tubs. We will continue to make the Kon Tiki Inn our choice for family and romantic trips. Thank you Kon Tiki!

Closer view of balcony cracks which keep going to most balconies

Second time here because the views are unbeatable and the price is decent. This is my opinion and observation only. You decide for yourself. Pros: -Views! You see whales, dolphins and all kinds of birds fly by. -Spacious rooms. -Huge parking lot. -Near freeway and lots of places to go and do. -Easy phone reservations and we have been able to check in early. -Very quiet rooms and area in the evening and night. -Comfortable beds. Clean rooms. -Mini refrigerator and microwave and even a safe for all your valuables. Read the cons to understand why there's a safe. -Continental breakfast from 7am to 10am daily. It's in the building adjacent to the courts. Very few selections and mostly carbs and sugar. Coffee is not the greatest either but we grab some fruits and a hard boiled egg which holds us over till lunch. -Nice staff. Most of them. Cons: -Pool gets loud and crowded. -A lot of kids running around and screaming. -Breakfast is meh but doable. Also a matter of taste. -There are no "do not disturb" signs. You either have one of your own or tell the staff and the cleaning ladies if you don't want services. It's annoying. Get those damn signs Kon Tiki! -The rooms are very dated and the carpet looks like it's from the 80's. We track sand in and I'm not sure how "clean" it all is with carpet. -The whole hotel could use a remodel but I understand it keeps the costs down. BIGGEST con are the balconies from a safety perspective. The stucco is cracking severely and the salt from the ocean corrodes the wood beams. All the balconies have a deep crack going through them. The floor of our latest balcony was lifting near the slider and when stepped on it was soft so your foot sank in a bit. The rail is secured but leaning on it doesn't feel safe considering the cracks above and below and some on the side walls. Los Angeles county has specific codes for this and these balconies would definitely fail. I'm not sure what county pismo is in though. This is my opinion and observation. Don't hate.

Ask the Community - Kon Tiki Inn

Looking forward to our visit this coming holiday weekend. Is the coffee maker a Keurig or a drip coffee?. Would like to bring our own coffee :-)

All 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor rooms have Keurig or similar machines; they are available upon request in ground floor rooms.

Any update on the restaurant space next door? Was Steamers, then Flagship - still vacant? Thanks!

We took over the restaurant in 2021 and completed an extensive renovation. It has reopened as Vista Steak and Seafood, and the new operators are Doug and Shannon MacMillan. Their theme is fresh seafood and quality steaks in a relaxed atmosphere.

It's 2022, is there really not an online booking option?

As of now , Phone reservations. Ever since i have been going it's been that way. They have never had an issue and it seems to work for many years. Slight inconvenience but honestly, it is such a great place to get away to. Hope you can go and enjoy…

Does any one know the daily price for a room, king bed?

Rates vary throughout the year, please call us direct so we can provide specific rates for the dates you are requesting. 805-773-4833 8am to midnight

What is the name of the restaurant right next to the hotel?

It was Steamers, then it was Flagship, now it's closed... all signs say temporary, but on-site it looks permanent.

When does the off season begin?

Lower season rates begin on September 2. Additional rate reductions are in effect starting on October 27 and also on December 1.

Are there microwave ovens in the rooms?

    Yes

How much for ocean front room?

All rooms are ocean front and the rates vary depending on the time of year - it's best just to call the front office with your dates

    Do they have elevators?

There are two elevators - one in the north half of the building and one in the south half.

    What time is check in?

Check in time is 4 pm. Check out time is 11 am.

I was initially undecided between a few different options, but ultimately decided to stay at Beachcomber Inn. I made a reservation from Friday to Sunday. I had already received an email confirming that check-in would be at 4:00 PM on Friday. However, around 9:00 AM that same morning, I received a phone call informing me that no one had stayed in the room the night before, and that we were welcome to check in at any time without waiting until 4:00 PM. As we all know, most hotels charge extra fees for early check-in or late check-out, so receiving such a generous offer without even asking was truly surprising and very much appreciated. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, we were only able to arrive around 6:00 PM. When we got there, I learned that the person who had called me was the owner, Johnny. We had the chance to meet him in person--he is incredibly friendly, talkative, and genuinely welcoming. He personally showed us around our room, which made the experience even more special. The location of the hotel is outstanding. It's just about a block and a half away from the busy center of Pismo Beach, yet it is remarkably quiet. We had a very peaceful night's sleep, and the room temperature was perfect. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided--there was a coffee machine with plenty of coffee pods, and the bathroom was fully stocked with essentials like shampoo and shower products. The room itself was spotless and in excellent condition. Additionally, the nearby beaches are only about a 10-minute drive away. We even went to the sand dunes and rode ATVs, which was an incredibly fun experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Pismo Beach. Check-out on Sunday was scheduled for 12:00 PM, but once again, Johnny reached out to let us know that no one was checking in after us. He kindly offered that we could check out anytime up until 6:00 PM if we wished. Just like the early check-in, this thoughtful gesture--offered without us even asking--was both surprising and deeply appreciated. He could have easily charged for this, but it was clear from the moment we met him that his priority is simply to provide excellent service and ensure his guests feel comfortable and happy during their stay. We would absolutely recommend staying at Beachcomber Inn when visiting Pismo Beach, and if you have the chance, meeting Johnny in person is truly a pleasure. From now on, we know that every time we visit Pismo Beach, we will choose to stay at this hotel without hesitation. Through this review, we would like to thank him once again and hope to see him again very soon.

Because of the construction the checkin desk is just inside the door adjacent to the tiny elevator. I was standing at the check-in desk and it is so close to the automatic doors that they just stayed open and it was cold outside. The luggage carts need to be updated. This sound trivial but they are so small, old/worn and don't have hook at the top to hang anything which would have helped given how small they are. Once we checked in I asked about a luggage cart as there were none to be found and the check-in clerk was kind enough to radio the cleaning staff to see if anyone left a cart in a hallway or in their room when they checked-out (I was told it happens). Shortly thereafter a member of staff came running by me in the lobby and took the elevator upstairs. Little did I know it was to get me a luggage cart that was found my cleaning staff. I was grateful for the effort and made my way to the room. I paid for a Deluxe Pier & Ocean View. I would suggest you get an Ocean View and skip the Pier View. Our room was the farthest most away from the ocean front of the hotel and so I had a good view of the neighboring hotel and could hear the children playing in the pool...not very relaxing and was louder than the ocean waves. The other complaint was that on the 2nd floor, where my room was located, my door was immediately next to the breezeway or walkway that is completely open to the breakfast area below so each morning I heard people in the breakfast area. I saw a door that could be shut to separte the walkway from the guestrooms but it was open for my entire visit. The elevators are extremely small and only 1 luggage cart and 2 people would fit. It is very old, slow and needs to be replaced. While I didn't use it the pool is heated and kept very clean. They offer electric bikes for rent with the first hour free. For the cost of this hotel I would have expected updated rooms or a lower price. I am looking forward to when the construction is complete as I would like to check out the new rooms.

My most recent stay was by far the worst experience I've had here. During our stay, we had to move three times and stayed in three different rooms due to ongoing maintenance issues. Each room presented significant problems. We experienced non-functioning air conditioning, leaving the rooms uncomfortably warm. Other rooms had televisions that did not work, refrigerators that were out of service, and even extension cords running throughout the room just to power basic amenities. It was clear that many of the remodeled rooms were not fully ready for guests. What was even more concerning was that several staff members openly acknowledged these issues, expressing frustration that many of the newly remodeled rooms still had major problems and were being rented despite not being fully operational. While the front-line employees did their best to assist, they were placed in a very difficult position. When we asked to speak with the manager, Barbara, regarding our concerns, we were repeatedly told she would follow up. Unfortunately, she never did. Being ignored after experiencing so many issues made the situation even more frustrating and showed a lack of concern for guest satisfaction. The problems didn't stop there. While using the pool, there were no towels available, and we had to wait nearly an hour for clean towels because the hotel's dryer wasn't working. This was yet another example of poor planning and ongoing maintenance problems affecting the guest experience. It's disappointing because this hotel was once one of my preferred places to stay. After being a repeat guest for many visits, I expected much better. Instead, the last two stays have been filled with inconvenience, constant room changes, broken amenities, and poor management communication. I sincerely hope the hotel addresses these maintenance issues, ensures rooms are fully functional before assigning them to guests, and improves management's responsiveness. Until then, I cannot recommend staying here based on my recent experiences.

However, while standing there, I checked Marriott's website and found multiple rooms available to book immediately. When I pointed this out, she claimed the online booking inventory didn't match the hotel's actual inventory, which made no sense and felt dishonest. Rather than trying to help resolve the situation, she came across as patronizing, offering unnecessary explanations about hotel hours as if that addressed the issue. The interaction felt dismissive from start to finish. To make matters worse, she offered a 2:00 p.m. late checkout because I'm a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, but then made a point of telling me she was not offering the 4:00 p.m. late checkout because she wasn't required to honor that benefit for Bonvoy members. This Boutique hotel has 50 something rooms, a good restaurant/bar and ocean facing balconies with Hot Tubs! This three story hotel is unique because first level is the parking garage, with the front desk through glass doors in the back. They have a little boutique and sitting area, with access to the beach. Second floor is rooms and third floor is the restaurant. The room was clean, great size and great view! The only negatives were it is a little on the older side, but still nice. And the Hot Tube was really shallow, you sit by having your feet straight out and you're on the bottom. Due to being so low, while you're in it, you can't see the ocean. The service in the hotel was good, no complaints. *Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody if they was to fully take in Pismo Beach*

The location is truly unmatched -- right on the sand with incredible sunset views. It felt like the perfect coastal getaway. The room was clean, well maintained, and very reasonably priced for what you get. The bed was comfortable (I personally prefer something a little firmer, but that's just preference). The highlight was definitely soaking in the hot tub while listening to the waves -- such a relaxing experience. The front desk staff was fantastic -- friendly, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our stay. My only two minor complaints: the hot tub wasn't quite as deep as I personally would have liked, and our room was directly below the restaurant bar area on the third floor. In the mornings, we could hear dishes and some banging as they were setting up for the day, which woke us up earlier than we planned. If you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend requesting a room on the end of the hotel or away from the restaurant area. Overall, we would absolutely stay again -- the view and location are hard to beat.
