The whole trip was a successful visit. Repeat every year. Close walk to all restaurants and the beavh.

Great place to stay, however they are closed for remodeling with no dates for reopening. At first they said just a few months but they have been closed for over a year. I have called them every two months over the past year to ask when they will reopen and they always answer, "Oh next month", but they never do. The last time we were in Pismo we had to stay somewhere else and we miss this inn. Hopefully their prices and service will remain the same after reopening, if they ever do reopen. All rooms are ocean front with great views. Pool is decent but seagulls, ducks and other birds are seen floating in it often. It is a no frills inn and the price is reflected as such and I hope they don't change that. We also love that it is self-park with parking spaces that are very wide, as they should be for loading and unloading luggage. Open soon Kon Tiki! We miss you! read more

The Kon TIki has become a favorite resort for us. Every room faces the ocean, they have a pool and jacuzzi, and breakfast every morning. They are also part of the Pismo Beach Fitness Center, located on their property and as a guest, you can go there and work out. Many restaurants are within walking distance and there has never been one we didn't enjoy. All of the rooms are spacious and well managed. We are looking forward to visiting Kon TIki again in the near future. Can't wait until their remodeling is finished so we can go again. We love the Kon TIki. read more

This is our second stay and we love it here. The view from our room is exceptional and our rooms were sparkling clean. On this trip, we booked a handicapped accessible room for my 87 year old mom and we had neighboring rooms on the first floor with chaise lounges on the lawn outside our door . Service is always friendly - from the calls we placed to make reservations to check-in and support throughout our stay. Complimentary breakfast options are very basic but we are so happy here that we really don't care - there are lots of great breakfast and coffee options in Pismo. We are already looking forward to our next visit. There are newer and pricier lodging options available but we found the Kon Tiki Inn to be the perfect place for our family. read more

My husband used to stay here all the time when he was a kid and he always talked about how amazing it was. Fortunately, we were able to relive the experience together, as this was my first time here and he really wanted to show me why he loved the Kon Tiki. Right on the side of a beautiful cliff, with a steep staircase down to the beach, this is hands-down the best hotel we've stayed at for any of our trips down in the area. The rooms are large, all ocean-facing, conveniently-located, and clean. We only stayed for a night at the end of our trip but I wish we had stayed longer - we could have easily spent a whole week there comfortably. Staff are all friendly and nice and even let us check in early since the room happened to have been available. I would definitely recommend. read more

I have passed by this spot many times on the street side and it didn't look like anything special. Then a few years back, I saw it from the beach side and thought it looked wonderful. Every room is an ocean view, the rooms are quiet and roomy, although on the older side as the screen door was not very smooth and the water pressure is a bit weak. The small inconveniences were worth it for the price you pay for this location. The pool and one of the two hot tubs overlook the beach providing a relaxing stay. Breakfast is simple and is on the other side of the parking lot. No big deal as you can ask for a tray and bring it back to your oceanview room to enjoy. I would definitely stay here again, although you would want to book early as most of the time they are fully booked on the weekends. read more

Every room is guaranteed a beachfront view. Rooms are clean, and WiFi is solid. We simply left our second story slider wide open and let the crashing waves rock us to sleep. If we got cold, we just turned up the central heating. Everything in Pismo is accessible by a short walk, including the World Class Steakhouse next door. Breakfast is free and it saved us a small bundle. We are coming back soon! read more

Always wanted to stay at Kon Tiki after so many years at seacrest. Loved the property! Got bottom floor room near the office. Loved being able to just walk out the sliding glass door onto the grass and hot tub/pool. Rooms were not luxurious, and in fact quite basic, but clean comfortable and in working order. While we got a regular drip coffee machine, which we kept, we could have asked for a keurig. A very pleasant stay and we will return. read more

All the rooms are ocean view with patios and balcony's . The rooms are very large and the restaurant next door is fantastic with a beautiful ocean view. There is a health club adjacent to the hotel where you can use the indoor pool and pickleball courts, sauna etc. The hotel has a big pool and jacuzzi and you can go down the stairs to the beach which had lots of Pismo Clams. We had this hotel recommended to us and boy are we happy with the friend who told us about it. The Kon Tiki Inn is a gem. It is a well cared for hotel, clean with the most friendly, helpful staff and best of all every room has a fantastic view! They offer a free breakfast with hard boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, oats, sweet rolls, fresh fruit, juice, milk and coffee. You also have free use of the athletic club which has a nice big gym, lap pool, free classes and pickle ball courts. The hotel itself has a really nice pool with two hot tubs. Second time here because the views are unbeatable and the price is decent. This is my opinion and observation only. You decide for yourself. Pros: -Views! You see whales, dolphins and all kinds of birds fly by. -Spacious rooms. -Huge parking lot. -Near freeway and lots of places to go and do. -Easy phone reservations and we have been able to check in early. -Very quiet rooms and area in the evening and night. -Comfortable beds. Clean rooms. -Mini refrigerator and microwave and even a safe for all your valuables. Read the cons to understand why there's a safe. -Continental breakfast from 7am to 10am daily. It's in the building adjacent to the courts. Very few selections and mostly carbs and sugar. Coffee is not the greatest either but we grab some fruits and a hard boiled egg which holds us over till lunch. -Nice staff. Most of them. Cons: -Pool gets loud and crowded. -A lot of kids running around and screaming. -Breakfast is meh but doable. Also a matter of taste. -There are no "do not disturb" signs. You either have one of your own or tell the staff and the cleaning ladies if you don't want services. It's annoying. Get those damn signs Kon Tiki! -The rooms are very dated and the carpet looks like it's from the 80's. We track sand in and I'm not sure how "clean" it all is with carpet. -The whole hotel could use a remodel but I understand it keeps the costs down. BIGGEST con are the balconies from a safety perspective. The stucco is cracking severely and the salt from the ocean corrodes the wood beams. All the balconies have a deep crack going through them. The floor of our latest balcony was lifting near the slider and when stepped on it was soft so your foot sank in a bit. The rail is secured but leaning on it doesn't feel safe considering the cracks above and below and some on the side walls. Los Angeles county has specific codes for this and these balconies would definitely fail. I'm not sure what county pismo is in though. This is my opinion and observation. Don't hate. read more

The only con would be that the pillows are a bit worn out so I had to sleep with 2, sometimes 3. The room is a bit outdated but still clean nonetheless. i had in mind to see how a west coast hurricane compares with what i'd witnessed in the east, and hilary seemed worthy, except of course it had devolved to a storm by the time it was near LA. anyway all i wanted was to be around the wave breaks which is exactly what they say never do but hey i'm a living example of how you can do a lot of things "they" say don't do if you want to be around afterwards. at first i figured to stay in a place near zuma but second thoughts intervened, or at least my friend in tow had other thoughts as it was close to the storm path (which was the idea for doing this in the first place but this didn't appeal to her in the first place). so we stayed at the Kon Tiki, much further up and away from the action but, you know, safe (am i the only one who hates that word now, like "be safe" "we'll keep you safe", etc etc) what i like about this place, should say it's really hard to find something not to like for an easy time on the coast, is you don't need worry what room you get to watch the ocean. you know, there's that moment when you make a reservation and you really want a waterside room but maybe they won't give you one and like that's not cool. at the kon tiki, ALL the rooms are floor through and have a direct lookout to the deep blue, or green gray as it sometimes actually is, sea. The other thing i like a lot is the hot tub which is close enough to the beach and has a nice wind break so you can take in the night air, adult beverage or better in hand, and know that whatever's next in this game you're playing, at that moment it's about as good as it's gonna get. but i guess that's only if you really like being next to an active ocean in the cold night air, as i do. lastly, i like the name of the place, it reminds of a time from the 60s/70s when all kinds of bars and restaurants along the coast of southern california adopted kitsch names recalling the south pacific, with a marine decor consisting of colored glass floats, nets, hatch covers, dried starfish, maybe an oar or broken ship's mast, or for that matter a pirate flag, similar trappings. a lot of that's gone now, the names being more corporate or descriptive than silly or romantic. anyway this is always a good place to stay on the beach, but through no fault of its own just ok for watching the dreaded tropical storm hilary, such as it was, pass through socal. read more

Haven't stayed at the Kon Tiki Inn since 2008 when we got our first dog (Kon Tiki isn't pet friendly), so when our daughter offered to stay at home and take care of the pets so we could come to Pismo and stay at the Kon Tiki - we jumped at the chance. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and my husband's 60th birthday and were so excited to see that things at the Kon Tiki remain wonderful! We were really thrilled to be given a 4th floor room (there are only 4 of them) which had the most fantastic view of the ocean, pier and the hills to the north of the hotel. The room also had a great fireplace that we used in the evenings. The Kon Tiki Inn has the best property in Pismo in terms of beauty and views! The pool and 2 spas are situated so that you can see the ocean while you relax. We spent 2 full days moving from the lounge chairs to the spa to the pool. Wash, rinse, repeat!! It was just what the doctor ordered! The Kon Tiki isn't a "fancy" hotel in terms of furnishings and amenities, however, it is one of the cleanest and most comfortable hotels you will ever find. The front desk and housekeeping staff work hard to maintain a clean and comfortable property. I am so glad to see that the Kon Tiki remains a place one can count on for a clean, well appointed room with the best view around! read more

This is a Throwback Style Inn which embodies the feel of the tropics and the charm of the 60's. Looking out the window you will find yourself witness to the dance of the swaying palm trees that line the property. You can hear the rustle in the breeze. Each room offers a spectacular view of the ocean and coastline. The view is so magnificent that it makes you stop and soak up. Each room has either a patio or deck to enjoy some outdoor time while sipping your morning coffee or late afternoon cocktail. This is an establishment we find extremely enjoyable and can't say enough about the pleasant staff, glorious views, convenient parking to the Inn and easy access to the great restaurants near by. This location is close enough to walk to town either on the main road or via the stairs from the property down to the beach and along the shoreline. Once on the beach you are able to walk to the shops while getting a few extra steps in for daily activity. While here we were able to tie some lose ends up with work as there was wifi access and a table to set up a make shift, on the go office area. This was our 6th visit to Pismo Beach and 3rd time staying at the Kon tiki. There are nicer hotels in the area, but a bit pricier. Knocking off 1 star for not being able to reserve online. Come on it's 2023, get with the times already! Knocking off another star because they aren't very accommodating if you're trying to book more than one room, and taking one more star for charging a $30 cancellation fee even if you cancel well within the cancellation window and you must cancel 30 days prior to arrival otherwise, they will charge u the total amount. Like most of the hotels here, it's very old and outdated, but this is one of the better ones at a more reasonable rate. If you can get a room, I will admit that it's got the best views but the stairs going down to the beach is a trek. Definitely won't recommend for ppl with heart conditions, also not handicap accessible. read more

Fridge and microwave in our room which was great and let's talk about the view- simply incredible. This hotel exceeded my expectations. We stayed for 2 nights and I actually called the day of our arrival and managed to get a reservation. (I don't recommend you wait last minute but this just happened for us.) I booked 2 queen beds. All rooms have ocean view but we stayed on the 3rd floor which had the most amazing views. We could see over the pool and straight to the beach. It was so miraculous to be lulled to sleep every night by the sounds of the ocean. I don't know if the room as a/c or not because it was not necessary. We kept the sliding glass door open about a foot and the room was cool (almost too cold at night). The beds were comfortable with ample of pillows. The shower felt relaxing and it was the perfect temperature and water pressure. Everything worked in the room as expected and we barely heard any sounds from other guests. The only gripe I have is that our neighbor on the left of us was smoking pot a few times even though smoking on the premises is strictly prohibited. We just closed our sliding door until the jerk finished. I'm not sure if using the pool during the pandemic is a great idea but they mandated only a certain amount of people in the pool and you had to reserve a time slot. We skipped that! The beach was amazing! It was so nice to know we didn't have to scramble around town for parking. We just packed up our beach gear and walked down the stairs. Now the continental breakfast. I was surprised on how they handled it. They have a building across the lot which was the kitchen. The staff wore masks and gloves. They set up for stations with 6 feet apart at each station with a picture menu. My only grip is the foods were all carbohydrate dense; pastries, bagels, oatmeal, cereals, fruit and frozen burritos. I follow a low carb diet and I would have appreciated hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon. I ended up having to get a frozen breakfast burrito and just eating the insides and ditching the burrito. The staff was more than accommodating to give us 2 burritos each. read more

Great Views, excellent check in process. Yes, you have to use a telephone to book your stay. I don't mind that- and find them to be incredibly helpful. The rooms are clean, the pool area is well kept- as is the lawn and all the areas we gathered. Breakfast area was super clean and kept clean as was the laundry area. It's clear the owners care about the facility and take care of it. It's not completely modern, yes, a bit dated- but it's quiet (like I've never heard my neighbors and we've stayed here twice now!) The rooms are clean, sheets and covers are immaculate- there is a microwave, safe and coffee maker all in the room. Plenty of parking, and you can walk to the beach. We will continue staying here as often as we can! read more

Smart and simple. First thing you notice when you park is that you have painted rectangles on either side of your parking spot. Giving you plenty of room to open your car doors and unload your stuff! (Why doesn't every hotel/motel do the same?!?!) Every room has an ocean view. We've stayed on the ground floor and on this trip the 2nd floor. First floor, you are out the slider and ready to hit the heated pool, one of the two jacuzzis or the stairs to the beach. The second floor gives you the chance to use the natural sound machine at night (only one sound setting "ocean waves") by leaving your sliding door open. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Room to put your bags, we had a lot during a 10-day road trip. There is laundry available too! Table with two chairs. The patio on the second floor has 3 chairs and a table, comfy for morning coffee from the free continental breakfast. We had a king and queen size bed for the 3 of us. Bathrooms aren't original, but not new frilly fixtures either. Who spends all their time a bathroom? Could use a little more water pressure in the shower. I suspect water saving, which makes sense. The location is a great jumping point for places to go and eat. We'll be back next year, and the next... read more
